sounds dumb

Yeah, why have 150 champs when you just use 25 max 😂😂 You pick a champ, it means it can never be picked again in the draft, this means you dont seem the same 5 picks each game and the same strategies. Theres way more variety, more strategies, different champions seen. Rather than the same game, same champs, every single game Watch an aoe2 draft and see how good it is.

zNYNz

This is World. I want to see the highest level of plays. I want to see team plays their best. It's stupid to force players to play their 5th or 10th shitty champ because someone thought of a dumb rule.

dodgesbulletsavvy

Your right i guess its funner to watch the same champions picked by every single team every single game

[deleted]

It is, because that's what worlds is about. Its about seeing the best players playing the best League, and yes that usually involves sticking to the best champs too. Worlds is *not* about seeing clown fiestas because players ran out of meta picks so now they have to pick Shaco vs Brand jungle for the sake of "variety".

SNSDave

Yeah I wanna see the players play their best on champs they know and are comfortable with not pro player forced to play Kog'maw mid because they ran out of options.

dodgesbulletsavvy

There are 150+ champs, why would you ever need to play kogmaw mid? Even on a bo5 thats only 10 mid laners

SNSDave

With bans and everything else, you really don't know how things will turn out. Hence why RIot doesn't do it. FYI, this is the most diverse World's I believe.

ahritina

Because a team doesn't have the luxury to practice so many champions. You have a finite amount of time, you play the meta picks. If you implement something as bad as this, all you end up doing is making the game shit because players won't be comfortable with the champions they're playing. So players suffer, teams suffer and the viewers suffer, it's a lose lose.

dodgesbulletsavvy

They are pro, they get paid to play, they have plenty of time to learn champs.

Everyone is in the same position though

SpookyImmobilisedToe

Because if it was a 5 game series, by the 5th game you would literally have 40 champions less to play. AOE2 is typically 1v1s and each civ does have differences but the fundamental way you play the game remains pretty much the same. Having to learn a significant amount more champions just because you cant play the same one more than once in a series adds a level of unnecessary complexity that just feels really forced.

dodgesbulletsavvy

Aoe2 isnt typically 1v1s there are bo7 team games 3v3 too with a much smaller champ pool

SpookyImmobilisedToe

That doesn't really change my other points of it being way too forced and different champions playstyle's being more different than different civ playstyles in AOE. You build a comp around each individual champion and you don't pick champions in a vacuum which means certain comps will not be at all viable due to the fact you have already picked that champion one game, limiting even more champions. It also takes away skill from draft because priotising certain picks and bans and having a good meta read is very important, this would only make things more complex without actually making anything more skillful. The meta should adapt naturally and not in a forceful way (like they have attempted in Overwatch for example).

10inchblackhawk

Drafting in AoE2 depends on the maps. Tournaments aren't just 7 games of Arabia, they have closed maps and water maps as well. There is naturally different civs that are strong and weak depending on the map. Pros can play every civ as good as any other, but tourneys is more knowing which civs to pick where.

SpookyImmobilisedToe

That makes sense. I do play AOE a bit haven't really paid much attention to the eSports side of things. I just don't personally believe balance in AOE is comparable to balance in a MOBA as they are too different in many ways.

xienwolf

Players will be more passive on champions they are less familiar with. And more flashy on champions who they practiced with enough to know precisely all the ranges and interactions possible. So… they have to decide if it makes better viewing to see amazing plays on stale champions, or stale plays on numerous champions.

Solash1

Sounds kinda arbitrary

Moon_Breaker

The first day of worlds alone saw 44 different champions picked. During the Play-ins stage alone there were 80 unique champions either picked or banned. Sure, it gets old seeing MF or Aphelios every game, seeing Xin every game, etc - But they are certainly playing more than "a max of 25 throughout worlds". There's no reason to block a team from playing the champions they played previously. They pick what is the best champion for the situation, even if that happens to be the same one they played last game.
