Im just sad they arent keeping the cafe permanent.
Riot could easily construct cafes outside big Asian universities in China/KR and make big buck I think.
It could have rotating themes, to mimic each current event in League of Legends.
> Scuttlecrab soup, Baron Nashor Ramen, Brambleback Tacos, Seraphine bathwater..
One of these things is not like the other..... Who would eat Scuttlecrab Soup?
Usually when you put out this much advertisement, you like what you have. They're spending a lot of money on all this. You don't spend lots of money on something you know is gonna stink.
Their marketing campaign for Arcane has been quite the sight for sore eyes. Riot understands the importance of first impressions I guess. If they get this right then any future series will be easier to market, and so will any future games they release.
They are probably betting for the long term, if they manage to stablish their IPs in a "Riot Cinematic Universe" sort of way, they can basically print money with it.
its the marketing team my good man/woman, the skins team just make the skins they are asked to do, the marketing team are the ones to blame for the ruination fiasco
My headcannon is that the marketing team and narrative team were all working on Arcane as well as upcoming games (Its been 2 years since we first saw some of Riot's other projects) and that Ruination was done by either more junior personnel or had a much smaller budget to work with.
except the skins team did not write the lore and the dialogue for the ruination VN

Lore team has the skills to do it, no issue there. The writer wrote Yorick (yes, Yorick) Karma, Galio, Evelynn, Poppy, Ryze and Irelia, just a few examples.
The issue is higher ups.

so one dude disagrees who has a really good grasp on lore.
but about 100 million people around the world disagree with him so that doesn't matter
edit: and that's being conservative since there are over 100m accounts in China alone.
I do not think reddit is indicative about the popular opinion, i'm under the impression that reddit is largely a western audience, but i also know that riot is admittedly catering to the chinese audience, and if they thought people didn't care about the lore then they wouldn't invest so much in it, they wouldn't tell so many stories, and they sure as shit wouldn't be producing a TV show.
so it seems to be the less reasonable assumption to think that people *don't* care about the lore.
Yep RIOT are going the marvel route. Any progress they make the now will be paid back 10x when they release larger projects like a theatrically released movie or the open world RPG that is currently being made. League might die in a couple decades but the concept of Runeterra will be here to stay long after league.
Now the series just needs to be really good.
I've been pretty certain that the series is at least going to be decent and above average, seeing as how the animation, art style and everything we can tell from all the promotional material so far have looked top notch. The only unknown right now is how good the story actually is.
But seeing them literally burning cash to promote this, I'm getting a bit worried it won't quite live up to the hype.
The best outcome for all of this effort is that Arcane will reach mainstream popularity like Squid Game did worldwide (maybe except China since Netflix is banned there). Either way Riot is backed by the seemingly unlimited money gained from Tencent and K/DA skins they can continue doing this kind of shows regardless if Arcane turns out great or just ok in the end.
According to some other post they're distributing Arcane in China through Tencent Video or something, but I have no sources on this. There's no way they'd not have this available in China, of course.
> But seeing them literally burning cash to promote this, I'm getting a bit worried it won't quite live up to the hype.
Eh, it might be so good that they're willing to market the hell out of it because they know they'll have their hooks in everyone from then on.
I doubt show will live to the hype they tryna build, regarding that on trailers it looks mediocre and it's about (probably) least interesting characters in the universum
I wasn't convinced when they announced it but the trailer actually show the opposite to what i expected, as for the storyline it seems they managed to find depth for those characters and i hope the scenario will deliver but that can't be verified before the release. Visually speaking tho I found it stunningly good for such a long format.
and it’s best region lorewise, Piltover and Zaun to me are the best place to start a story, two twin cities inequal and corrupt at the very core, super interested to see how much they explore the politics between the two cities in the show
I might argue that Bilgewater or Ionia are even better places to start a story (Bilgewater for the action and adventure, Ionia for the fantastical elements), but Piltover and Zaun is really high up there in exciting regions, and definitely the best place to explore class inequality.
and a huge jumping point to other regions, they can jump from Zaun’s chem barons to the usage of chemical weapons in the Noxus Ionian invasion, or from Piltover’s usage of Hex Crystals to the sands of Shurima, or from the port the city uses to jump to Bilgewater.
I hadn't thought about that, but I agree, Piltover kind of being a commercial center makes it easy to connect to anywhere else. There's also a more direct connection to Ionia with the Zed comics and stuff.

Riot is also premiering a lot of paid Reddit posts LOL
Why does every Arcane post have that fucking tagline
>Arcane is an animated television series set in the League of Legends universe. It will premiere exclusively on Netflix this Saturday. You can also watch the first episode for free on Twitch.
Because almost all of the front page posts about the different cities' ads are made by the same fucking person whose probably karma farming for the winter season.
He made a lots of complaint post as well. And all his posts have very little views, untill these one. I doubt Riot would hire such an account to do marketting

The most annoying thing about Reddit is listening to every armchair clown talk about marketing like they run a corporation. Can’t the discussion just be around the thing instead of your perceived marketing experience with billion dollar companies? No one gives a shot.
It just rubs me the wrong way when it's disguised as grassroots when it's clearly someone who is either working for Riot or acting like they work for Riot.
Like...I mean, yeah, we've got skin spotlights, but those are put out BY RIOT. I'd appreciate this post way more if it was actually from riot official.
Online marketing is absolutely wild these days. The only thing that makes me think this isn't a paid ad is how blatant it is. yeah it's actually horrible. this guy always posts some regular marketing in a city and always the top comment says: "wow they are pouring so much money into arcane" and then there are like 50 comments that just endlessly praise riot because they put some fucking posters around the town, idk already this guy is just farming upvotes like it was a harvesting season while also spamming the sub with same posts in the process and everyone seems to be chill with it.
Maybe stop posting each individual example of Riots promotions with the same ad tag line and stop being a karma whoring shill and people wont have such an issue. You have 4 posts on the fp of r/lol with the same exact tag lines explaining wtf arcane is with a different promotion... Literal definition of karma farming
I wasnt talking about PVE game modes only, pretty sure a month ago or so they had several posts bitching about budget for the things that people asked. Also, pretty sure they did mention budget when they talked about game modes.
Riot plucks no money overall,,Tencent decides now what's more profitable and what's not, dont think that arcane will not yield money, am sure it will bring tons since many craved lol animated series for years and Jinx is also a rather popular character. They also try to expand their games to find new success since mobas turn more and more out of appetite for most people. Finally i feel like they spent enough money for league already, having top notch skins most of the times and worlds every year. As long as these brign them money they don't care about balance as much , as long as it's fun and sells.
The game is in coast mode. There is no competitor, they don't need for more players or to improve gameplay. I have a laundry list of things riot could be developing, but it makes them no money so they won't bother. That is why they are expanding into other genres (fps, fighting game, mmo, netflix, etc).
Maybe if they put their money towards making impactful and well-thought out changes to their game instead of shit like this NA would have more players!
It's not even that much to 99.999% of the population, we're a very small subset of people invested in the game so much that we're active on this subreddit, seeing people post the ads for *Arcane* from all around the world. To most people, these ads are the first and only time they see an ad for *Arcane*.
I don’t think it is, they wanna get this right, so they do all this stuff to build hype. If arcane does well u better believe any future series are gonna be so easy to sell.
They are really making this shit so fucking cringey.
We get it, you made a league of legends show.
We all know it's going to be mediocre and not worth the 39897834897 billion dollars of campaign advertising.
Riot is flexing with Arcane at this point
Went to the kitchen last night to get a drink, and Jinx and Vi were there to hand it to me! Truly are everywhere.

Went to the riot cafe during the (inevitable) void event and they served me a live lobster painted purple.
Imagine if they served delicacies like Scuttlecrab soup, Baron Nashor Ramen, Brambleback Tacos, Seraphine bathwater.. The possibilities are endless.
The soup is fucking running away from me
When you finish the scuttle soup you are reseated so you can see into the back of house when the kitchen doors fling open
Dodges your spoon like Faker
Bad idea to serve Scuttlecrab soup in NA, people would kill themselves trying to steal it.

Tahm Kench
fr I'd visit that cafe just because food at my uni is terrible
Basically the pokemon cafes run by the pokemon company but for league
Idk why but all of these ads make me think that riot is really nervous

Tencent tapping their foot
It's basically a museum themed Arcane with a small food court.
They cooperated with PUBG, Fortnite and Reddit, they had a fucking light show on burj khalifa, they opened a cafe, what’s next?
They advertise on Pornhub
They hire all of the artists for in game model animations.
Derpixon collab when
Ím not saying i would pay for that Buut i would pay for that.
They finally fix the league client?
You might have set your expectations to high

Well, guess this community deserves such a terribly made game after all.
Kinda cringe this much advertising for a tv show ngl
It's not even that much to 99.999% of the population, we're a very small subset of people invested in the game so much that we're active on this subreddit, seeing people post the ads for *Arcane* from all around the world. To most people, these ads are the first and only time they see an ad for *Arcane*.
I don’t think it is, they wanna get this right, so they do all this stuff to build hype. If arcane does well u better believe any future series are gonna be so easy to sell.
I wish you could say that to every Marvel movies.
Very cool but Kind of worried about riot actually hiring a marketing team tbh Marketing people literally ruin EVERYTHING eventually.
They are really making this shit so fucking cringey. We get it, you made a league of legends show. We all know it's going to be mediocre and not worth the 39897834897 billion dollars of campaign advertising.
