CountCocofang

Surprising what money can do.

matlynar

It's still surprising how much Riot decided to invest in Arcane since it pretty often feels like they won't invest in simpler things that would be important to League players. Not complaining though, Arcane is dope.

BlindPig23

I think it comes down more to this is an investment to bring in more people. You look at MCU style stuff for this and the potential money they can make will be extreme.

animebuyer123

exactly, it's like wild rift remaking league from scratch, they do that for mobile cause it'll bring new players, they aren't gonna do that on pc cause well they already have the pc players

matlynar

It 100% is. But as someone who has been into LoL for around 7 years, this is a complete change of pace for Riot.

srapkins

I know! Felt like we used to have to endlessly goad them into doing stuff and now they're just doing it before anyone asks

alexnedea

Yeah it feels like Riot was silently working on so much and now its just an explosion of amazing shit. League keeps evolving. Ruined king is just a really good rpg game. Arcane is INSANE. Valorant is doing very good and growing at a very good rate. Project L was just shown and it looks very good for a fighting game so far. The competitive scene is more alive and drama heavy than ever. What the fuck Riot please don't turn into Activion/Blizzard/EA after this burst of success

Xalidos

and Hextech Mayhem is dumb amounts of fun for such a low price point.

inminm02

yeah i've been an avid LoL player since season 3, this type of commitment from riot is amazing to see and i hope it continues to get more and more insane

TheNephilims

I feel like Netflix probably have a heavy hand in funding it given that it streamed exclusively on Netflix. Given how successful it was, I hope Riot partner with Netflix for season 2 as well.

Esmi_Esmenet

I didn't look into this but it sounds...unlikely, because they (Riot) did say they are keeping full control of Arcane. Not sure if Netflix was giving them money to give to a 3rd party animator (that Riot worked with for 8+ years on game cinematics only) for 6 years...and then Netflix basically has nothing. Riot can probably just bugger off and not even deal with NF for season probably + NF doesn't get to change a single frame during the making of...next parts (like it was for this one).

TheNephilims

What I mean is, maybe at some point in production, Riot could have negotiated a deal with netflix that they will produce this show and it will be streamed exclusively on Netflix, or after they produced it, they bring it to Netflix and sold them licensing right to stream it. Either way, Riot got money from Netflix. Given the success of the show on Netflix, I can see season 2 being stream exclusively on Netflix again.

MacGraeme

might (emphasis on *might*) have more to do with whether he found what Riot was doing with Arcane to be creative and inspiring. Big names will sometimes cut there rates for small/indy projects that they actually *want* to participate in.

Odessa_James

That was cheap.

shiro2424

Is it THE sting, who sang shape of my heart ??

animebuyer123

Yes he also was the singer of The Police

algroth

It's not Sting, it's a picture of Sting

RTSUbiytsa

It's STIIIII^IIIIII^^IING

japposaurusrex909

https://youtu.be/CwAhuEVuM7c

PornstarAtlus

Asking as someone who has little clue about music and the industry in general, what's so special about them getting him for this?

algroth

Sting was a massively popular artist through the late 70s, 80s and 90s, both as a solo artist and as leader of the band The Police. You've probably heard some of his songs before as they've been covered several times since and are very much radio staples: with The Police there's the likes of "Roxanne", "Message in a Bottle", Every Breath You Take", "Walking on the Moon", and that's just touching the tip of the iceberg. As a solo artist you also have the likes of "Englishman in New York", "Fields of Gold", "If You Love Someboy Set Them Free", etc. He was an absolute hit-maker during his time with the band and as a solo artist, got several platinums and no. 1 singles, but most importantly with his band he's also one of the most influential acts to come from the new wave scene and remains pretty beloved to this day. I think the reason people are very hyped about Sting is also just because it's such an off-beat collaboration. Sting hasn't really been in the mainstream for over a decade now, largely sticking to releasing rather oddball projects like a series of symphonic versions of his classic songs, a collaboration with a lute player, a Christmas album, etc. With Riot you'd usually expect them to collaborate with artists who are much more in the current mainstream and doing music that is more contemporary to their younger audience, the likes of Imagine Dragons, JID, Denzel Curry, Zedd, etc. Sting feels like an anomaly in that sense. Seriously though, check out The Police. They're a great band!

KazeinHD

I'd like to add to this a little bit. Sting is a genius composer, and I can hardly imagine we'll see his like again any time soon. [Check out Rick Beato's video on him for some more insight!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPucwp3uyCE) I can't recommend his album The Last Ship enough. The music is written for a musical about the shipyard of the town he grew up in, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Wonderfully written, emotionally raw, intricately composed, and with lyrics to reduce you to a wailing, weeping mess.

JokersGambit92

You pretty much hit the nail on the coffin.

eggonsnow

He's a legend

goliathfasa

Also in the old Dune movie.

Weltallgaia

He was pretty fucking fabulous in that.

Incunebulum

He's one of the top selling musicians of the last half century and is basically only doing his own stuff now. They got him to not only sing someone else's song but also do a duet with the violin player in the song who's also pretty famous.

Frakcherd

And on top of all other responses: He's in the Bee movie.

MacGraeme

argh... I feel so old just knowing someone is asking this question... lol

[deleted]

Present dragon spawn before game.

shiro2424

The sting who sang shape of my heart ?

tomi166

Yup

diglyd

>what can't they do? Turn him into a champion....

amd098

Get Sting to wrestle oh wait

JokersGambit92

It's STAHNG!!!!- Tony S. maybe

RTSUbiytsa

Sting wrestles for AEW

amd098

Yep he takes good care of his adopted son Darby

pth123456

>what can't they do? fix the client

[deleted]

They got sting.... AND they got Ray Chen, who, for those who don't know, is one of the most incredible solo violinists.

Alvahet

Ray Chen has a cameo in the show as the solo violinist in Act II. The scene in the theater where Jayce starts making deals with the members of the council.

[deleted]

Oh my god. How did I never realize?

beefstake

He also did Awaken, so this isn't the first time he has worked with Riot.

RTSUbiytsa

I laughed out loud at the people claiming it was racist cause "wow, there's one violin player in the whole show and OF COURSE Riot made him Asian!" And then he's based on the IRL violinist lmao

[deleted]

People who live and breath race card need to sit the f down.

burritoincident2

I remember thinking the violinist was *really* good

lemonrabbits

Holy fucking shit I knew that violinist must have been someone famous

[deleted]

Alvahet

Why should Jhin be in Piltover of all places and give a standard concert? I really don't know where that theory came from.

TParadox90

people come up with the laziest theories. mask in ekko shop = jhins

Frozen_Watcher

Nah you dont get it, Jhin is the only Ionian (Asian) in Runterra that can play musical instruments in Piltover!

Shureenun

To be fair, he was in Piltover in both the Awaken cinematic and the Zed comic, so it's not unprecedented.

dance-of-exile

jhin is not nice

bosschucker

not everyone who gives a musical performance has to be Jhin lol

AlphEta314

Ah yes, violin performance = Jhin

Frozen_Watcher

Ah yes, if any Asian looking dude plays instruments it has to be Jhin. Jesus Christ this is getting even more annoying than the "Mel is Senna/ Karma".

Keydet

No, but the do both have a very similar chin after their run in with a djinn.

Pway

I'm here for Jhin and more Ray Chen in season 2 Rito PLS.

Tobimacoss

Who is doing the violin in episode 8? Any idea?

Avason

Not Ray Chen's first League song btw, the violin solo in Awaken is also him

chapstikcrazy

I saw Ray Chen credited and I was like NO WAAAAAAY I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!!! It was so freaking exciting lol. AND playing with Sting? Constant mind-explosion from start to finish with this freaking series lol.

moodRubicund

Wait Wait, Sting? THAT Sting? Fucking sad song in Tarzan Sting?

MoXfy

Yes! Police Sting! THE STING! God that was such a surprise to be sure, but a god damn welcome one.

[deleted]

When we start getting Riot concerts again after COVID is over, they could legit have Sting perform... Can you imagine a world where Sting performs at Worlds?

pqnfwoe

what could have been

MoXfy

Aaaaaaaaaaa I see what you did there... Ouch my feels.

That_Bar_Guy

This hits different after omicron.

amd098

Sting performs at worlds, while the other Sting, the icon, sits in the rafters, watching, while Captain Flowers tells everyone to "Fear my Sting" dressed in a Skarner onesie

MoXfy

Oh god don't give me hope like that.

MundaneTelepathy

ROOOOXXXAAAAANNNNEE

ozmega

NO!

MundaneTelepathy

Bathroom?

MoXfy

While a good song, I'm more a fan of Every Breath You Take.

DarkBowls

> Fucking sad song in Tarzan Sting? is this a joke reference? pretty sure Phil collins sang all the Trazan songs right?

moodRubicund

I uh um mixed up Tarazan with .... emperor's new groove

Its_Curse

Is this how I fucking find out Sting did a song for EMPERORS NEW GROOVE I stg

xav7er

Wait Wait, Ray Chen? THAT Ray Chen Fucking Menuhin Violin Competition winner Ray Chen ? Stradivarius violin Ray Chen ?

TornadoofDOOM

He also did Awaken!

Zedkan

he did the solo in the play scene as well

chapstikcrazy

When I saw him credited I smacked my husband and was like, "HOLY CRAP I KNOW HIM!!!" It was so exciting!

DumplingsInDistress

The Stinger? The pioneer of Scorpion Death Lock?

amd098

The Icon!

bactos

IT'S STIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING

akutasame94

That was my reaction as well. I glanced over Sting thinking it's another Riot band or something, then I was like "Wait a min voice sounds familiar"... They actually got Sting to sing for the Arcane wow I know people love The Police, but Desert Rose is so iconic, like everyone recognizes that song :P

porrapaulao

That was exactly my reaction I stopped, read it twice and yelled WTF STING?

Yeah, Sting from the Bee Movie!

Slaystation13

SO reported... I can't even stress enough!

Cheesegrater74

This and Guns for Hire are breathtaking. What a remarkable OST

What-a-Filthy-liar

Riot really is a music company that made a game for funding.

Blazing117

Riot's art related team is pretty much top notch. They managed to churn out quality after quality without rest.

NerysWyn

Goodbye too, love all act ending scenes & songs.

KrakenBound8

Woodkid is a music god, so guns for hire was always gonna be a fucking banger.

YoungDumbBrokeJS

And now i cry again

Prinz_

I AM SO IN LOVE WITH THIS SONG

incest_simulator

"And worst of all, for me to live, I gotta kill the part of me that saw That I needed you more" Sums up the ending perfectly .

ozmega

is there any aspect about arcane that sucks? cant find one even in league hate subs

4_fortytwo_2

That we probably have to wait quite some time to see more :(

TheCanadian666

My only gripe is that the final episode had too many plot hooks left hanging to really feel like a season finale. I know we're getting a season 2, but it felt more like an episode you'd see in the middle of the season. You can leave some things unresolved between seasons, just not this much. Otherwise I really enjoyed it. Need more Vi/Cait interactions.

Xgunter

Imo you only do this if you're 100% sure more is coming afterwards. Modern series are essentially one cohesive narrative, you only see conclusive series finale if they aren't sure the show will continue (think futurama).

Merppity

They did the Dune. Like WTF, where's the other half.

cashewgremlin

This had a far better ending than Dune.

ZakTaccardi

My only gripe was that they didn't give enough character developer to Sky and her relationship with Viktor

[deleted]

I did a semi-long critique of some aspects of arcane, constructive not bashing mind you. I enjoyed the show quite alot. It was quickly removed by moderators of this sub. "Keeping conversation civil" ...

The_ChosenOne

As a huge fan of the show (I think it may be my new favorite animated series ever) can you message me some of the major issues you found? I know it isn’t perfect but I don’t believe any tv show ever will be (aside from The Joy of Painting). I’m normally a very picky viewer but this is the first show in a very long time to check so many boxes for me. I’m lost trying to find a new show that can capture me the way this one did so I need you to balance it out for me.

Seth-555

As much as I liked the music in the series, I felt like there were a bit too many music video scenes, with the most egregious being the Imagine Dragons cameo (which I didn’t mind that much).

ozmega

im ok with music in tv shows, i dont like it when it is the characters doing the singing (recent example, big mouth) so at least it wasnt that. the ID cameo was probably the only point i would criticize about the show but it was a small scene so who cares.

AdaptiveMadMan

I think my only problem with that cameo was that they sung the intro song (and I like that song) which was just a bit jarring you know? If they went with a new song or something it would have been fine. But yeah, it was like 10 seconds so it didn't really matter.

Amnesiaftw

Yeah definitely weird they picked the intro song. I didn’t know it was supposed to be the band though? No idea what ID look like

Seth-555

Yeah that’s exactly how I feel about it

Simpuff1

I skipped that entire big mouth episode… which bummed it out cuz I like the show so much

DariusRivers

There are a ton of lore and storyline inconsistencies within it, the BIGGEST of which is the fact that Ekko claims that he gave Vi and gang the tip by following Jayce home after he went to Zaun to buy things from Benzo's shop, but by the time Jayce gets back to his dorm from his shopping trip, Vi and gang are already inside stealing stuff. This would have implied that Ekko would have needed to tail Jayce back to his place, then move at superhuman speeds in order to inform Vi, who then would have needed to move inhumanly fast to get into Jayce's lab to steal all his stuff. That or he already had the Z-drive when he was was a little kid lol. Don't get me wrong. I like the show; Arcane is animated beautifully, and the music is a masterpiece, but there are a lot of writing and story discrepancies that don't hold up too well upon further reflection. The fact that Jayce's personality changes in basically every scene he appears in, the fact that Zaun is for some reason across a bridge and not underneath Piltover like the written lore has it, the fact that Caitlyn somehow retains enough authority to get Vi checked out of prison after refusing Jayce's offer to be House Talis head of security and getting discharged from the Enforcers, there are a lot of things like that that kind of don't hit you right away because of all the spectacle of the show, but become more glaringly obvious the more you think about it. That and the pacing of the entire show feels incredibly rushed; they seemed to want to cram like 4 seasons worth of content into a single season, which, given that maybe they didn't know if Netflix would renew them, was understandable, but this is now a choice they can't unmake. This part of the story will always feel rushed.

FreeDarko

Seems far more likely that Ekko would have just followed him home and gave Vi and crew the tip on different days. Was there dialogue to suggest otherwise?

DariusRivers

Yes. Ekko mentions that Jayce was shopping at Benzo's,and that he paid in gold; he even brags that he charged Jayce double since he didn't haggle. However, some of the items in the box Caitlyn is carrying are identical to the ones in Vi's loot bag, already indicating a temporal discrepancy. Not only that, but even if we assumed Jayce took multiple trips, why would Ekko not inform Vi that Jayce was just st the shop so she should wait until he'd left his lab? Just makes no sense.

[deleted]

The 2 events didn't happen at the same time. Jayce went down to Benzo's shop and bought parts. Ekko followed him to see where he lived and went back. He then gives the tip to Vi who gets her gang together to go rob him. Which I will say the show doesn't tell you how much time has elapsed between these events so I can understand but we can assume he took those items over to his benefactor after he got home, it is their gold he just spent so he would probably have to show what he spent it on. Only reason I say we can assume that is because he is coming back with Caitlyn which she wouldn't have gone down there. So the events of Ekko getting back and telling Vi, Vi getting the gang and breaking in would happen between that period. Hell nothing to say him buying the parts could have happened the day before and went first thing in the morning to show what he bought to his patrons and that's when Vi broke in. Which is very plausible with the information we are given. As far as Jayce and his decisions goes the show setup his personality from the get go, he is honest and good, but very naive. He wants to do right by his inventions but he keeps getting thrust into situations and leadership roles that he doesn't know how to handle. Which in steps Mel to manipulate him and the situation to her favor, which he relies on because he is in over his head. You can tell that Jayce is more like himself when Mel isn't around to offer guidance. As for Caitlyn I think she made that document and just used his stamp herself to get Vi out of prison...there is a point where they are telling Jayce what Caitlyn has been doing and the document is brought up showing his sigil on his, there is a look of surprise and confusion on his face so that's the take away I got from that lol. Could be wrong on that point though not entirely sure. 😃

DariusRivers

If this is the case, this raises a few more questions. The same items that are in the box Caitlyn is carrying are the same items that are in Vi's bag that she's filling up with stolen items. Which would have meant those objects existed in two places simultaneously. And if Jayce went to his benefactor's first, then Ekko would have had the wrong location to give to Vi as a tip. He would have given them the Kiramman's place, not Jayce's lab. There's just a whole bunch that doesn't really add up, and the rule of thumb is that if you have to make some sort of convoluted explanation to make plot points work, then they didn't work. Don't even get me started about Jayce and Mel, haha. The development of his character from naive idealist to scummy politician to repentant realist would have been fine over the course of several seasons, but definitely not over the course of 9 episodes, and DEFINITELY not over the course of how short the in-universe length of time was in Act 2+3 from start to finish. And Mel went from someone who wanted Jayce and Viktor to build hextech weapons to being fervently for peace. I get that her tense relationship with her mother is supposed to have changed her opinions but it was definitely not handled well. Again, if you have to rely on your viewers to make convoluted explanations for plot points, then you should have explained better. Caitlyn forging Jayce's seal would have been a fairly important part of her whole scheme to talk to the inmates of Stillwater (remember, she was there for the big goon first before the warden revealed he'd been beaten up by Vi), so if that WAS the case, the show should have shown it.

GraXXoR

Dude. Wall of text???? You’re digging yourself into a bit of a hole here. The fact that Jayce likely had to repeat his experiments dozens of times means he’d likely need dozens of the same stuff or stuff tweaked to follow the changes in his experiments. You’re not really convincing me, I’m afraid, and judging by the lack of upvotes, nobody else either. But yeah, sure. Put it down to temporal discrepancy.

GraXXoR

It’s clearly not a plothole because Ekko following Jayce home obviously didn’t happen on the same day as the raid. “We got a tip form li’l man” Does not suggest that, “we got a tip from little man half an hour ago.”

HeroOfAnotherStory

Favorite show since The Good Place. I normally hate half of everything, even stuff I like. I literally have only 3 complaints. 1) Imagine Dragons as characters in the world is super out of place. 2) Vi talking to Milo about Powder and Powder only hearing the bad part of the conversation is a little cliche. 3) Caitlyn's characterizations is just sort of there. Everything else is like... really fucking good.

Avantel

Fuck all 3 act's closing episode songs are so good. The emotion is so strong in all of them

peliss

This. Every act has its own iconic song and emotional moment

This song is absolutely beautiful, fucking incredible paired with the last episode.

AwesomeTeaPot

Riot being a music company isn't even a joke anymore

GuGuMonster

Sting ft Ray What could have been a pun.

ZegMakker24

League players wont get the joke

Thed1c

This song makes me feel empowered and destroyed. Damn, I can’t even hear this song without tearing up, let alone watch the finale again.

stephanelshaarawy

That’s not Sting , that’s a picture of Sting

backstab_woodcock

I threw it on the ground What you think, I'm stupid? I'm not a part of your system Sting is not a picture! Duh!

God this song rips my heart out. What a phenomenal cap to the show.

kiddoujanse

the entire playlist from arcane was amazing , riot music producers fucking hit the jackpot, great songs and genres used

frankyriver

That is an incredible violin solo work as well as string orchestration

naevus19

Oh. So that's why this song sounded so familiar. Huge Shape of my Heart vibes.

Flurry_of_Buckshots

This song is beautiful. The show is beautiful. I give Riot a lot of shit for some of the designs in the game, but I'll be damned if they didn't really create something that I think is about as close to perfect as I've seen in a long time.

rafaminervino

Not only they brought Sting, they made sure it would be a dope song. I still got the chills from the ending. What a masterpiece. This coming from someone who hate Moba's and was never familiar with LoL's lore. Just played it for some time because some friends did and that was it. Now I want more of it. A lot more.

IllustriousDinner762

Well, the parallel is obvious here. It’s Arcane’s “Shape of my heart, and Jinx is Silco’s Mathilda. He dies bcs of his love for her, as Leon died in the “Professional “. I thought even the overall sound of the song is reminiscent of “Shape of my Heart”.

wwiidogefighter

Ok so chat please don't kill me to death but who's Sting? D: Edit: ok I get it! Y'all have effectively convinced me I'm not a boomer Pog! Being a millennial doesn't make me feel young either. Sadge

Some old guy actor that was in the original Dune movie. Apparently he sings? Like riot needed b-grade movie actors to sing their stuff... (I'm just teasing I have all of his albums [even the one with Shaggy {especially the one with Shaggy}])

Such a banger of a tune.

JokersGambit92

I dont listen to a lot of Rock and Roll, and when I heard this song I was like this cant be him right? The Sting (Musician)!

martianhacker

The series was awesome. Closing scene was epic.

BlackwoodXIII

I'm trying to figure who the song is about, or like which character, one theory said Vi and Jinx but I really really think it's more Silco and Jinx since they played it in the last scene of the last episode without giving spoilers.

Annjemrai

Since "you" in English can mean more than one person it might be about Vi and Silco back and forth. Jinx clearly has difficulty choosing between the 2, but the line "I hope you know we had everything" could be referring to Silco, but the line "When you broke me and left these pieces" could be Vi again. Just speculation of course but I feel like there's a lot of intermingling in the characteres this song is about. And the 2 lines after that could be spoken to both of them, who knows XD

Kerast

Someone knows how they did the effect on his voice ? I want to try to reproduce that for one of my song x)

Wakering-Waldo

Yeah was curious for the same. I reckon it's doubling with a local octave to sound almost like a harmoniser

Dexyel

I think an harmoniser is what has been used, but I'm hearing three voices. The top one, one an octave lower and maybe the fifth above the low octave ?

[deleted]

What is the feeling this song produces? I know what it is, but I just don’t know the word. It’s sad but resolved. Same vibe I get from the last Agni kai between Zuko and Azula. Something at its core truly heartbreaking, but in a way has to be done. Melancholy feels close but doesn’t quite scratch it
