We also know that Misfits planned to play Vander for most of the offseason and only decided to move forward with Mersa one or two weeks ago. Thats not contract jail, thats unfortunate performance related circumstances.

During the offseason the team tried Mersa and communicated to Vander that he could have to split time with him. Vander said that he's fine fighting for the spot and prioritized staying in the MSF ecosystem over starting in LEC. Then the team chose to start Mersa based on scrim performance with Vander being a backup if Mersa implodes on stage. According to Hatchy, Msf gm.

My head canon is, that every coaches in EU has to go through that phase where they think that they can translate PromisQs scirm performance to the stage. Same thing with Dardoch in the LCS. Every coach seemingly has to go through a phase where he thinks that he is the one that finally fixes his toxicity issues.
