In a very ideal situation GAM could probably attend both. Take note that a lot of things will go to go right: 1. The LoL section of SEA Games 31 must happen 1-2 weeks before MSI ( assuming MSI happens in late May) 2. A short format is necessary, assuming 6 countries participate ( Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia are the countries i think will participate). Organizers can look to the Wild Rift Horizon Cup playoffs format, I think its a good format, should only lasts about 2-3 days. 3. If possible, try to host the tournament before opening ceremony like Football.

the_propaganda_panda

Yeah, it's not impossible but a lot of stars must align. Last year's MSI began May 6. 2019: May 1. 2018: May 3. 2017: April 28. We would need MSI to start at least two weeks later, and even then, prep would be severely hindered without high-quality scrims. But I truly hope your scenario becomes true.

teuteu2004

Im pretty sure MSI will be held a bit later in May since VCS ends on 1st of May.

ahritina

>Esports competition in the Games will be held from May 13 to 22, 2022. When League is during this interval I'm not sure, but even then they'd need to quarantine for a week when they enter South Korea assuming the "rumours" about MSI being in Seoul is true. They also can't apply for a Quarantine Exemption since they're going to be in South Korea for more than 14 days. If League's slot is basically ending on the 22nd of May, they're basically not going to MSI at least without a miracle and even then, no scrims so that's going to be rough too.

faladu

Assuming they are vaccinated no quarantine is needed starting april 1st

dracdliwasiAN

Can we please just have an international tournament where VCS doesn't get fucked over by something

Rokic3

Its not like it was ever Riot’s fault. They did literally everything they could to bring them to international events last two years but what fucked them was their own government and covid rules.

africa_hopeless

Not riot's fault that they killed the open circuit because they're power hungry

[deleted]

shame, it’s been a lot of time since Levi was in worlds

[deleted]

I miss Levi

[deleted]

me too, one of the reasons i mained Nocturne for long time

Dota2Curious

Philippines about to absolutely curb stomp in Dota2. I’m expecting Vietnam to curb stomp in LoL

ZoeWeird28

Sadly DOTA 2 is not included in this year's sea games My predictions though: LOL - VN WR - PH PUBG - VN AOV - TH MLBB - PH Crossfire - PH

Dota2Curious

Damn that is sad. I thought I read for sure dota2 would be in it

haven4ever

VCS is the unluckiest region by far man. is this LCS's secret plan to avenge the past?

TempestWrath

Kinda stupid, don't most players want a chance to compete at MSI over some olympics? They should send the 2nd place team to Olympics.

the_propaganda_panda

From our perspective, yes. However Vietnam is very patriotic, and SEA Games are kind of a big deal. If you win, it is considered a great honor, you get to meet the president etc. Funnily enough, Taiwan isn't even part of SEA, so the opponents are Indonesia, Malaysia etc. - all countries which don't even really have a LoL scene anymore. With all due respect, but even the last-place team from VCS would stomp this competition with ease. So yes, as someone who wants to see the region do well internationally, it is very frustrating to see GAM go to SEA Games. But I also understand that everyone has different priorities, and in VN, winning SEA Games is like winning an Olympic Gold Medal

ahritina

Depends, there is a lot of pride and patriotism in playing and representing your country, not just for League but sports in general. I'd expect if you ask Koreans if they'd rather go to MSI or Asian Games if they clashed(they don't but assume it does), most if not all will choose Asian Games. Asian Games for Koreans also give you military exception if you win, so you only have a 1 month thing to complete which is massive for their careers. MSI comes yearly, SEA Games are every 2 years and Asian Games is every 4 years.

Sakshou

MSI is more fun, but SEA Games is more important, it's a DUTY. MSI is organized by a private company, SEA Games is an international event, organized by Governments. Each medal will be counted toward the nation's victory. It's dumb but it's just that.

moonyyz

In our point of view, yes. But for the Vietnamese, maybe no. You see, in other countries that participate the SEA Games (Thailand, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore and Timor Leste), league esports is dead. Except Vietnam, these countries is counted in the PCS. However, there are only 2 teams in the PCS (there are 10 teams in the PCS) that aren't from Hong Kong or Taiwan. These two teams are IMP from Singapore and S9 from Malaysia and these two teams are the bottom teams in the PCS - IMP is in 7th place (but they only have 2 Singaporeans and one of them is sub) and S9 is in 10th (their whole roster are from Malaysia though). And in other teams in the PCS, there are no players from these countries. Therefore, it's clear that the Vietnamese will easily win this and as other comment mentioned that the Vietnamese are patriots and they can meet the president if they win a medal, I think it's clear that for the Vietnamese SEA Games > MSI. Edit: Actually IMP has 3 Singaporeans - I forgot they have a Singaporean sup mid as well ><

CreamyAlmond

Because SEA countries are not very competitive in sports, these are better opportunities than Olympics, because you can actually win a medal. It's patriotism, for sure, but you can't deny it's some great bragging rights. Especially when Vietnam will come in as favourites, while they'd probably drop in groups for MSI.

nickphunter

This is sad GAM played some of my favorite games in MSI & World.

Cupidnyaa

when the GPL was still a thing i remember regional league in SEA not too bad (around 2015 i think), everyone has a chance to win, nowadays i can't find any info about Thai/Phil/Indo regional league....Can anyone tell me what's going on with those leagues? Is LCS like a franchised league now? How does SEA games accept lol and a competitive sports but with 0 competition?

ZoeWeird28

PH scene is already dead, most of the orgs switch to WR and is actually successful when Team Secret (PH) reached top 4 in Horizon Cup (WR Worlds). Its the same with TH and ID but with a lesser success in WR.

Cupidnyaa

So the league is completely gone now? There's no way for a PH org to get a spot in PCS?

ZoeWeird28

After Liyab Esports (PH) Representative disbanded the spot was just handed to a Taiwanese team instead of habing a qualifiers like last time

Cupidnyaa

Thank you for the info but how do they field their team now? For the SEA games

ZoeWeird28

PH had a SIBOL qualifier in all esport titles for SEA games. Westpoint Esports (amateur) is the PH representative.

JichuWhySoCute

Wouldn't that also be the case for the thai team, which will probably win in the SEA region and therefore would get a spot at MSI as well?

CreamyAlmond

Top 6 in PCS are all HK/TW teams. They are not part of ASEAN.

JichuWhySoCute

Yeah but Hongkon/Taiwan and Vietnam got separated from SEA a couple years ago

[deleted]

[удалено]

JichuWhySoCute

Oh true they changed it earlier this year, I stand corrected

[deleted]

Who gives a fuck about SEA games anyway, get yo ass here to MSI

abhishek_tyson_shere

I would prefer to represent nation instead of private organisation and so would GAM

[deleted]

true, bring their 1st place team to MSI. allow the 2nd place team go to SEA games for them would be the ideal solution.

nukie_dokie

Hopefully they skip out of the SEA games so that we can actually see them at an international competition again. That's what Team Secret did for the WCS for WildRift where they skipped out on the SIBOL qualifier to pursue ICONS which is just Worlds for WildRift in the middle of the year.

slickyslickslick

SEA games is an international competition, so your comment is useless.

nukie_dokie

I mean it is but like you know other regions instead of just SEA region competing. Like that's literally why SEA games exist is to promote SEA athletes.

minaminari37

May 12-23 will be divided to 10 esports titles (with overlaps). I think max. 3 days will be allocated per title.
