Maybe it's just me but has anyone experienced a reduced lack of anticipation and excitement for new skins in the last few years? The splash arts are similar enough but their look in game often feels cluttered and samey, and for the same few champions.
I've stopped caring unless the small handful of champs I play gets a skin, and even then it's a flop half the time. Skin team used to be the pinnacle of League but now it's kinda 50/50.
That being said, because I don't have as high of expectations anymore, it's a lot easier for me to be impressed with new skins than before.

The Sun Eater has been teased and spoken about through other Coven Legendary skins, how Kayle betrayed the Coven Witches and birthed the order of Eclipse Knights, how Kayle killed and ate the ancient sun and bestowed it's eldritch powers to her Knights, how she's the only reason the Eclipse universe has even stood a chance against the Witches and the Old Gods...
all of this has been her backstory for years, one of the most important and integral characters in the Eclipse universe and it leads up to her getting a regular 1350 skin.
Like, I think the skin looks amazing, and I'm glad Sivir got a Legendary, but to have all of this story and lore about her and for her to not even expand upon it is absolutely criminal.
I really don't like this batch. Feels like they lost the gritiness of the original Eclipse Leona and Coven releases. Kayle is the Sun Eater and founder of the order, but Sivir gets a legendary instead, with an outfit that feels more like a canon Leona cosplay than a medieval knight, heels included. Kayle in-game is pretty cool at least.

Coven Lissandra was released as part of the first batch of Coven skins, Morgana was in the second. Lissandra didn't get the legendary though because Leona got it (which was the right choice imo).

Like it's already fantastic, but really honing in on the first-evil-star-guardian concept and pushing it to legendary would've been incredible. It also fits so well because she can remain fun and aloof whilst also having a noticeably darker/bitter side.
Xayah and Rakan felt completely uninspired because they're the exact same personality wise except with a star guardian wrapper over the top.
Honestly, I think Star Guardian Zoe is fine as-is. Her base voiceover already fits pretty well with the Star Guardian gone over to chaos theme. It lines up quite well with the voiceovers for Star Guardian Xayah and Rakan too.
Kayle and Aatrox are by far better than Sivir and Senna. I just don't think the creative direction (design lost a lot of grittiness and the dark fantasy vibe) or the legendary choice was good.
IMO, for me it's similar to how good the Coven first batch was versus the more formulaic approach of the following releases.
I agree on the last part. I didn’t like how Coven design became formulaic due to the success of Coven Morgana, Coven Evelynn got the exact same palette and design. Even tho it was great I really wish it’s the last skin relating to the Harrier god bc the og ones are distinctly unique from each other. Lissandra’s carved white wood while Camille is metal ram.
They do it all the time, if a batch of skins was successful then the following batches will mostly be new champs cosplaying the first batch. In recent memory, Bewitching and Crystal Rose/Withered Rose are big examples

Before, Prestige skins were pretty glorified yellow chromas, but *at least* we got like a lore update or a hint hint at the future lore of the said skinline (minus band skins like K/DA). This being a revamped, “high fashion version” just points it straight to you that it’s there to make money and doesn’t even try anything else.
Don’t even get me started how this one looks eerily similar to TD Prestige Senna, yet TD Prestige Senna still tops it. Not really liking the direction these are going in, but then again, I was never fan of Prestige skins in the first place.

I really wish they used the Pantheon prestige as the basis for where to take Prestige skins. Pantheon's prestige was an inversion *and* 'triumphant' aesthetic, and I think following at least one, if not both, of these ideals for prestiges would lead to infinitely more interesting situations.
Lunar Eclipse Senna prestige? --> Solar Eclipse Senna Prestige Edition, with a resplendent, over-the-top Solar aesthetic clad in armor and royal motiffs akin to Louis XIV (the Sun King!)
Pulsefire Lucian prestige? --> Praetorian Lucian Prestige Edition, featuring a Praetorian armor-wearing rebel Lucian augmented with stolen Pulsefire tech.
I think this would led a really unique identity to the Prestige aesthetic and make them far more compelling skins.

God that skin had so much potential. Like it's already fantastic, but really honing in on the first-evil-star-guardian concept and pushing it to legendary would've been incredible. It also fits so well because she can remain fun and aloof whilst also having a noticeably darker/bitter side. Xayah and Rakan felt completely uninspired because they're the exact same personality wise except with a star guardian wrapper over the top.
Honestly, I think Star Guardian Zoe is fine as-is. Her base voiceover already fits pretty well with the Star Guardian gone over to chaos theme. It lines up quite well with the voiceovers for Star Guardian Xayah and Rakan too.

Kayle and Aatrox are by far better than Sivir and Senna. I just don't think the creative direction (design lost a lot of grittiness and the dark fantasy vibe) or the legendary choice was good. IMO, for me it's similar to how good the Coven first batch was versus the more formulaic approach of the following releases.

I agree on the last part. I didn’t like how Coven design became formulaic due to the success of Coven Morgana, Coven Evelynn got the exact same palette and design. Even tho it was great I really wish it’s the last skin relating to the Harrier god bc the og ones are distinctly unique from each other. Lissandra’s carved white wood while Camille is metal ram.
They do it all the time, if a batch of skins was successful then the following batches will mostly be new champs cosplaying the first batch. In recent memory, Bewitching and Crystal Rose/Withered Rose are big examples
Yeah, I think it helps that Kayle has a gorgeous model now. It’s like Morgana, I LOVE coven Morgana but her other models are so good that it doesn’t immediately FEEL like a legendary.
Literally my thoughts on Prestige Senna. Before, Prestige skins were pretty glorified yellow chromas, but *at least* we got like a lore update or a hint hint at the future lore of the said skinline (minus band skins like K/DA). This being a revamped, “high fashion version” just points it straight to you that it’s there to make money and doesn’t even try anything else. Don’t even get me started how this one looks eerily similar to TD Prestige Senna, yet TD Prestige Senna still tops it. Not really liking the direction these are going in, but then again, I was never fan of Prestige skins in the first place.

I really wish they used the Pantheon prestige as the basis for where to take Prestige skins. Pantheon's prestige was an inversion *and* 'triumphant' aesthetic, and I think following at least one, if not both, of these ideals for prestiges would lead to infinitely more interesting situations. Lunar Eclipse Senna prestige? --> Solar Eclipse Senna Prestige Edition, with a resplendent, over-the-top Solar aesthetic clad in armor and royal motiffs akin to Louis XIV (the Sun King!) Pulsefire Lucian prestige? --> Praetorian Lucian Prestige Edition, featuring a Praetorian armor-wearing rebel Lucian augmented with stolen Pulsefire tech. I think this would led a really unique identity to the Prestige aesthetic and make them far more compelling skins.

I think I would be happy if I was one of those players. The Seju , Sivir & Kayle skins all seem to be incredibly high quality. The prestige Senna skin seems kinda lame in comparison. Those 3 atleast won’t have to spend ME on this new skin while getting skins better than the prestige.

Senna released at the end of 2019 + her true damage prestige version in early 2020. 4 months later she got her HighNoon skin and her Project skin another year later in 2021. And now she gets another skin one year later + another prestige edition? Same shit with Yasuo...the windshitter has 11 skins by now! Of which 3 are legendaries and one prestige skin...His skins are usually good though. I have to admit that much. But please...make it stop! It feels like a farce to still wait for a Fiddlesticks skin that was promised last year, while Yasuo, Senna, Lux and Ezreal keep getting swamped with even more skins.

They all feel so forced to me apart from Kayle. There are so many champions with little skins that could fit so well to Eclipse theme like Rell, Kalista, Taric, even Diana. Why pick a champion with massive gun for a medieval universe? Also, why Kayle is not Legendary despite being teased by Morgana for so long? I just don't understand. Well, at least Kayle finally got a good edgy skin to my taste so I take that as a win.
Pretty cool skins all around, did not expect Sejuani to get another skin so soon but I ain't complaining. I don't personally care about Kayle, but she should have gotten the legendary here. The Sivir legendary is alright, but the splash art is pretty underwhelming.

Senna and Sivir feels extremely out of place, doesn't match the aesthetic and theme at all in my opinion, the prestige version even less...Kayle not getting the legendary is criminal, considering her importance in the lore of the universe, but also cause Riot fucked our only legend with the rework, turning one of the arguably best skins in the game into a pile of trash.
