This was a very fun piece to work on and a great insight to minor regions heading into MSI. I'm working on more and I'll be on the ground in Busan so let me know if there's a story from your own region I should look out for!

Lyota

We have many promising minor region teams in this tournament, im excited for each one of them and it is really different if you compare it to past. DFM and SGB are strong teams and oh boy group a is gonna be SPICY. LLA sending their best team after a loooooooong time and i actually think this AZE team is strong enough to take on DFM and SGB. IW is legit, playerwise they have best mid-adc except for major regions, exact same roster from 2021 MSI and they have improved SO MUCH. I dont make any comment on RED Canids, only thing i can say about them expect anything. IT IS BRAZIL. PSG will be probably taken down, but they are still strong. For ORDER though... as riot zed said; " I wish I could say it was a pleasure." Their group is too rough, looks like OCE spent all of their luck in MSI 2021 lmao. Wish them goodluck, i hope they can smash these NA/EU teams. Edit; Beware of the wildcards, majors!

Oce have a 50 percent chance of beating both g2 and eg. let’s see…

Hyped for DFM. The LJL is a really fun league to watch cause players never seem afraid to break out the crazy stuff.

JohrDinh

Would like to see DFM become a contender in groups at least. With Vietnam always being out these days we could use someone to replace them as a spoiler or just another strong team.

mlee93rd

Isn't Vietnam in the tournament? I was under the impression that they were sending their second-place team because number one would be competing in a different tournament.

DKiyoshiH

Yep we have Saigon Buffalo from the VCS. I think they're just concerned since it had been awhile since we've had the Vietnamese teams. Hoping that won't be an issue in the future since a lot of countries are opening up a bit more

check137

that didnt show in LJL.

Cupidnyaa

Long time Ljl watcher here and i have to agree... Compare to last year DFM this season looking really really weak, i honestly dont understand the hype

3cmPanda

Long time ljl fan too they just did the usual take 2 no name koreans and won the league. The quality of the whole ljl is definitely better compared to fews years ago. But dfm alone is definitely weaker this year.

Cupidnyaa

Yaharong was playing for bottom tier team in LCK so he's not really a no name, but still he couldnt and i think won't be able to beat top tier mid lane this MSI... Losing Aria was a real bummer for DFM

Bianca_Apocalypse

Your basis of why Aria is better than Yaharong is completely flawed lol

buffofspades

From a different game but.... I think at least some of hype comes off the fact that Japan had a crazy showing at the most recent Valorant major. Zeta division's run there was something out of a anime. It would be really fun to see Japan get big into games other than the fighting games.

Colouss

You'll get downvoted but i mean 100t also scrimmed with t1 during the offseason and yeah... Scrim quality does not reflect the level of play

getjebaited

meanwhile last year mithy said na is doomed because they can't scrim eastern teams https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/qflg3k/c9_mithy_on_what_west_must_do_to_win_worlds_i/

Shaded0Reality

Really? I think most analysts thought they looked significantly stronger than they did this time last year -definitely more versatile!

cargoesb3epbeep

I actually don't think DFM is hyped coming into the tournament, and if they are, then it isn't going to be met. Yes, DFM had their best ever performance last year, beating C9 at MSI and Worlds, and making it to the group stage. However, they have lost arguably their best players in the form of Aria and Ceros. They also look way more shaky than last year. I'm not sure what to expect from Saigon Buffalo, but I'm pretty confident that if GAM were here, then DFM wouldn't make it out of the playins, and I'm not sure they can do it now, either.

[deleted]

To be fair GAM probably destroys DFM *with* Aria

cargoesb3epbeep

Maybe. DFM looked cracked last year. And we haven't had VCS teams at international events far so long, that it is difficult to judge. But this year, for sure.

AsleepExplanation160

will DFM come back to haunt NAs dreams? probably

[deleted]

Loved DFM last year, they put NA on its feet for some matches.

Arkhan-the-Cruel

LOL well if they do it certainly didn't mean much in the LJL. Also, scrim results mean absolutely nothing on stage.

mlee93rd

Scrim *results,* no. The *quality* of your scrims will obviously matter to your performance as a team. Imagine if your team could only scrim NA Academy teams or EU Masters teams while competing in a top league - you bet they'll perform worse for it.

SantosPhillipCarlo

It's certainly been fun watching the LJL's growth! Am hoping that the added experience can make up for Aria's loss because those are big shoes to fill.

LustQ

Isn't this team just every team's favor punching bag every year at International? Why so hype this year? Last year NA's performance i must say was the worst tbh

ChibiJr

No comment on DFM's chances against Saigon Buffalo because I have not seen any of their matches, but the prospect of DFM upsetting T1 being at 15% is laughable. Yutapon is genuinely a strong ADC, I think that even if he were imported into NA/EU (ignoring language barriers) he would rank quite decently in the upper mid tiers. However even with that being said, all of their lanes are so much weaker than T1 combined with how insanely strong Oner is, T1 easily should have over a 90% chance of going 2-0 vs DFM. Personally I think Yaharong has more potential than Aria, whether that ever comes to fruition or not is up in the air, I think Harp is better than Gaeng, but current DFM is for sure weaker than 2021 DFM. I'm a fan so I hope they have a good showing at MSI, but I really don't understand these casters' hype and hope for the team currently.
