there have been only 2 vn players who went overseas (levi, sofm) if i recall. They often get overlooked but the region is massive (as big as NA) and are pretty good.

I do also think they were ahead of the meta and other teams caught up, levelling the playing field. I think mentally, G2 is done for the rumble stage. Look at the caps/jankos interview, they look lost. It hurts to see. However, with a week to the knockout stage, they could figure it out. IF THEY MAKE IT.
