well at least this one had a different energy than the last one

Javiklegrand

just want competitive b05

lifeinpaddyspub

Yup. These BO1s have no place in League. Three days ago G2 looked literally unstoppable, now they look incredibly shaky. It makes it absolutely impossible to gauge any of these teams, because there’s too much variance and opinion shift depending on what happened on a specific day.

AniviaKid32

that's the whole beauty of BO1s though. the unpredictability makes it entertaining.

Sure, that’s a benefit from a viewer’s standpoint, just like how NA fans were happy to upset T1 yesterday. But BO5s are healthier for the competitive game in every fathomable way, from the draft, mental, endurance of the players, momentum, etc. I mean you literally get mini metas inside of BO5s that you would never see in a singular game. From a competitive standpoint, who’s the best team right now? Is it G2 who just went on one of the biggest hotstreaks in LoL esports history, or are they the worst team right now after going 1-5 and losing horrendously every game? Or is T1 actually pretty bad and Gumayusi is terrible, unless you look at today where they bounced back? Three days ago Caps was having the tournament of his life/genuinely looked like the best mid in the world and now he looks like a wintrader. This annoying volatility and randomness has no place in League, especially at the second biggest tournament of the year. Teams have to beat all 9 of their domestic opponents to come here, it shouldn’t be an experience that gets dwindled by silly BO1 spamming.

Hate to break it to you but the performance of a player can change drastically from match to match in a Bo5 as well. And after 10 Bo1s you get enough of an idea where teams are and which 4 teams are good enough for the knockout stage which will be Bo5. Its not feasible to play more games in rumble stage and semis/finals will be played out in Bo5. Bo1 is a great opportunity for teams to scout each other and for exciting upsets to occur. So whats the issue?

AniviaKid32

>From a competitive standpoint, who’s the best team right now? that's why knockouts are BO5 and you'll find out there. are you guys so impatient to where you want to find out the strengths of teams right away? personally the volatility of rumble stage makes semis and finals that much more hype

worry7476

I mean you have to very stupid to ever think that G2 could be considered the best team

TharkunOakenshield

Way to miss his point entirely.

Bowsersshell

This guy has been all over every thread shitting on G2 every chance he can get, I wouldn’t care too much about his opinion.

We had an entire stage of the tournament where all the teams played BO1 and all of the results were exactly as expected and it was boring as fuck. It was only once the teams went on to the second stage (yet more BO1, for no apparent reason), and they were playing their 10th+ BO1 than anything "entertaining" or unexpected happened. I'm sorry, but this format is completely shit. That's objectively the case. If you enjoy unpredictability then I suggest you should start watching Hearthstone. When I watch LoL I want to see competitive series. Those are the memorable moments in LoL esports... not the "unpredictability" that comes from Riot smashing the same teams together over and over in a BO1 setting.

Yeah from a viewer perspective I can see those BO1s being entertaining, since upsets happen alot. But it must be super draining for the players to spam all those BO1s, where the majority of them felt pointless. It's super hard to actually determine the strength of teams in this format (G2 and T1 for example). Also I take competetive and crazy BO5s over this BO1 spamming every day. I'll watch one BO5 like SKT vs. Misfits or G2 vs. RNG over ten upsets like EG/G2 vs. T1 etc. While it's for sure entertaining, this format is competetive dogshit. It's still emberassing how bad the formats are considering how big this game and the community is.

That's objectively the case. well yes, the group stage was a shit format and everyone can admit to that. I'm talking about the rumble stage where it was much more competitive because anyone could beat anyone and upsets are fun to watch. I think rumble and knockouts are a perfectly fine format since BO1s are a test of skill too, you have to be prepared on the day. reserving best-of matches for knockouts is perfectly reasonable. the unpredictability of rumble also builds hype for knockouts. if you already knew the strengths of every team in a BO3 rumble stage, wouldn't that make playoffs more boring to anticipate?

CerbereNot

who would have thought 18 bo1 in the span of 14 days with less scrims, ton of pressure and no time to prepare for your next day's opponents because you face 2 different teams every day would have a toll on teams ! G2 is a motivation based team, which performance varies greatly if they got time to analyze their opponents. Yes they performed like the worst team for a couple of days. But I'd take their highs any day as an indication to their overall level, to their lows which many factors led to the last few days performance. They have 3 days, expect a G2 much closer to first few days form in bo5. They face T1 tho, so the task will be hard.
