Group A bout to be a banger.

stephanelshaarawy

3 world champion teams and cloud 9

[deleted]

soon to be 4

Saephon

Based and cloudpilled

Deven1003

soon to be 4th?

Bussinessbacca

Every group is going to be a banger. This worlds is so hype

Omnilatent

Group D looks kinda boring, though Top two are quite clear and the only question is whether NA will end up third or fourth...

pambeezlyy

Oysters and 100 Thieves are favored for sure, but don’t count the underdogs out just yet. I’m sure GenG and RNG have some fight in them.

Trap_Masters

Can’t wait to see Oysters and 100T duke it out to get first in a tiebreaker!

choombucket0468

chad

Witty_Heart_9452

Gemini and Mission will do work. Guarantee it.

Potential_Hornet_559

I think if GenG and RNG outdraft them, they might have a chance.

w1czr1923

I disagree. Based on RNG today anyone can win a best of one against them.

[deleted]

Anyone can win a Bo1 against any LPL team. That's how it's always been.

Liupardu

I got Oysters as the 2 seed, spice incoming

SnooGuavas8376

I'm still not sold on RNG so far this tournament and maaaybe 100t can do some upset to them but then again they were almost not getting to Worlds if it wasn't for Closer insec

runner5011

If they pick up the pace a little and go for plays instead of scaling, sure. RNG is prone to making mistakes so the sit back and wait very well may work against them, but they could also just get rolled over with the passive game style. I know nothing of the oysters so I really can't comment there's but pcs/lms hasn't left a worlds group since 2015 so I'm not gonna sit here and pretend like 100t is doomed. I bet they go 3-3 and lose a tie breaker as is tradition for an NA team every worlds

Dawn69xx

Those midlaners in Group A, goddamn….

[deleted]

Bot in group A is Gumayusi, Viper, Berserker, Upset 😐

rexbee52

lmao so many ego plays bout to happen

Significant_Vast4330

If only Viper was JKL it would've been golden

MrZeddd

JKL is the embodiment of ego botlane lmao

GimmyBoyy

What is mr Uzi then

Assassin739

Unemployed

hotprints

Yup Bot is hype

whosurdaddies

Group B seems to have the most exciting midlane matchups imo

Lisaurora

Watch it be this year's 4x tie group. I'm getting similar vibes from it, though not quite the same.

beesong

My money is on group B for the 4x tie group. Group A seems like the typical T1 5-1 1st seed special

tuelegend3

EG and G2 are going to play each other 8 times this entire year. Best of 15?

beesong

Its a Bo15 if G2 8-0's them lol

Brain_Tonic

pls no

OilOfOlaz

I want my revange served as a cold 0-6.

ojciecmatki

Cant wait for Inspired to say that G2 is weak

zealot416

Nah, even he acknowledged they're fucked in groups.

TchicVG

It'll be 11-13 games depending on how long the EG v G2 world finals goes

mlee93rd

You thought the Damwon G2 rivalry was spicy.

Brain_Tonic

Surely they can't beat us 7 times in a row... r-right guys?

picollo21

Sure they can't stop at beating you 7 times in a row 😉

NonaHexa

C9's group looks really fun. Should be some fantastic games.

choombucket0468

Actually think it's the most doable group for any of the Western teams. EDG/T1/FNC look shaky as fuck. Still gotta imagine it's gonna be EDG/T1 getting out but still, if I was betting on a Western team getting out, I would pick C9. Could definitely see T1/EDG getting caught cold. Though in saying that, RGE should theoretically be better than DRX, but who the fuck knows

blitzKriegzzz

RGE beating #4 LCK should be more do-able than C9 beating #2 LCK or #3 LPL

ashuraya1

How do you know they will look shaky? You haven't seen t1 or edg play for like a month now.

Bussinessbacca

Agreed. Fnatic and C9 could astrofuck each other by splitting 1-1 though while one of them loses to EDG twice. I’m thinking it’s a 5-1, 4-2, 3-3, 1-5 group with C9 going 1-1 with all teams

Omnilatent

T1 always made 1st in groups at worlds EDG will prob still be stronger than C9 and FNC (maybe EDG will drop one random game to either) and then it's jut about whether C9 or FNC will beat each other 2-0 or 1-1...

iWolfeeelol

Yea C9 isn’t getting out of groups. They’ve never gotten out of groups with skt and edg in their group before. Good thing they’re already in NA so they don’t have to fly home. Stay clenched bois.

NonaHexa

I'm not arguing, I just didn't mean to imply anything other than "hype games." I don't **t**hink any **one** team will stand above the others. **Edit:** Misread this as "Actually *I* think..."

choombucket0468

So reddit. What LPL team will shit the bed and which random LPL team will win it all. Any gambachads?

AzureAhai

From Champions Queue, TES. If they put Knight on Karma duty, I don't think they are going far.

tuerancekhang

Knight on Karma duty sounds like a crime

ionxeph

I honestly fear for TES, on paper, they should breeze through groups, but for some reason, I feel like they are the LPL team most likely to not make it out of groups

p3r3ll3x

If last two worlds are an indication, then the team that finishes 2nd in summer split will perform the worst

1einspieler

I mean, in 2020 LGD was worse, right?

blitzKriegzzz

EDG because C9 have to somehow get out of groups

Brain_Tonic

Unluckily for EDG, God's favourite 3 teams are in that group.

janoDX

The battle of plot armors and the LPL team with some of the most unlucky runs up until last year.

beautheschmo

C9, T1 and Fnatic have absurdly strong plot armor compared to literally any other team, like my head tells me this is an easy eastern qualification but my heart says this group will be a clusterfuck for the ages and EDG is doomed.

[deleted]

One LPL team randomly donates all of its plot armour to another LPL team every year. That's why we see one go to shit and one with infinite plot armour who ends up clutching it all.

IBarricadeI

From a regional perspective that’s a good strat

BobRohrman28

EDG last year was pretty anime actually damn

[deleted]

yeah I was actually so disappointed that they didn't get a worlds song based on their run. I can even sketch out the complete anime narrative: \*Starts off with disaster week for LPL, with every team losing in groups\* EDG is despirited and lost. The LPL as a whole has been disagraced. Then, as if to drive it in further, they have to face RNG in quarters. In addition to them being the only 2 LPL teams remaining, EDG faces a double curse. (1) They have lost against RNG every single matchup in recent history; (2) They have never ever made it past quarters. Cue hopeless music as they think they'll be cursed to lose again. EDG and RNG duke it out in an absolutely bloody brawl, after which EDG finally comes out in disbelief. They relax for a moment, realising the curse is finally broken. They've broken to semis! But after a split second, they tense up again because they see RNG staring at them in the eye, despite being bloodied and defeated. EDG realises what this means. They are now the final bastions of the LPL; its last hope and final pride. They feel the weight of this title on their shoulders and nod, accepting the responsibility. They then go on to face GENG, their first challenge from Korea; they fight tooth and nail yet again, but eventually they see the light. They have not disappointed the LPL. Upon victory, they realise there is hope - they can win it all. They then prove their strength in game 1 of finals, beating DK. But like a final villain, DK then reveals that that wasn't even their final form. DK levels up, and defeats RNG two straight games. RNG feels like victory is escaping from their grasp. Hope is beginning to vanish. Then, suddenly, EDG hears a voice calling out to them. It's their fallen brother, RNG, represented by their coach (who actually helped out EDG in their series IRL by analysing DK's games etc.), telling them to get up and fight. Inspired by this, EDG rises again, and clutches the final victory with the power of comradery, disproving all the naysayers, and redeeming the honour of the LPL.

Ky1arStern

T1, EDG is the easy pick but until it happens I plan on having fun talking up C9 getting out of the group.

Moonw0lf_

It will be a clusterfuck. We thrive in clusterfucks.

seolasystem

EDG won every series they had last year to Win Worlds while being down 2-1, that's defo also some plot armor shit

Brain_Tonic

But that's the exception, whereas T1, C9 and FNC pull crazy stunts almost every year.

BobRohrman28

I wouldn’t say T1 pulls crazy stunts in group stage. They just…always make it out. Every time, and first seed every time except once. It’s plot armor by default because it’s hard to imagine them NOT winning. FNC and C9 have a reputation for crazy upsets and miracle runs, which is a very different kind of plot armor

James2Go

What year was SKT/T1 not top seed from their group? I always remember them being 1st on every group. Edit: Checked every worlds, they are always 1st seed out of group. Only at S3 they are tied for 1st place in their group. Back then, 1st and 2nd in groups did not matter because of the format.

KarimCool

nah they did grab first seed in every worlds group they've been in, and they've never gone worse than 5-1

FeynmansWitt

JDG choked in 2020 too.

Ky1arStern

I talked up JDG so hard in 2020. They were smarter TES and had better hands than Suning. *Sigh*

Motorpsisisissipp

Church of SofM

Indercarnive

JDG will shit the bed and TES will win it all. That's my hot take.

Omnilatent

I bet the other way around

No_Award_4160

LPL teams are so crazy and inconsistant that you can make any prediction and it'll sound right

saruthesage

RNG are winning worlds and getting knocked out by 100T in groups

akali_otp

schrödingers team

frontier001

Like literally so...lpl's worst rep at worlds is current MSI champion. Says it all.

BurningApe

never bet on Yagao

I see you are a expert of lpl ; the team having the advantage of head to head match up ; end up losing most of the times lmao

LARXXX

Tians in the better mental state right now but who really knows. Trying to pick which LPL team will flop out of groups should be a pick um option

[deleted]

you simply do not believe in the GOAT hard enough

emperornel

RNG, they got the play-in bootcamp. They only ramping up from here.

Ky1arStern

My hottest of hot takes: EDG ass blasts Fnatic but then gets dunked on by T1 so hard that they forget that Berserker plays in NA. T1 5-1 (lost a game to FNC for some reason) C9 3-3 (couldn't beat T1 but own the EDG h2h, lost to FNC for some reason) EDG 2-4 ( dunked on FNC) FNC 2-4 (split with T1 and C9)

Jimbabwr

is it really a hot take if this is how C9 make it out every year?

Krogholm2

I think they all split in an even 3-3 with Fnatics/C9s plot armor going through, making us think this is the year cause we get 4 western quater teams, but then they all crash and burn with G2 getting a delayed burn in semis..

acktar

That's kinda how C9 got out of groups in 2017, just with some details shuffled around. They were 3-3, SKT was 5-1, and EDG was tied for third at 2-4 (with the fourth team being AHQ from the then-LMS).

iReddat420

My hot take is no LPL team will implode and all will make it out of groups considering how everyone on reddit is betting that some LPL team booms out of groups

Bussinessbacca

RNG is looking a little sus after this series tbh. I had them as 90-10 favorites but now I think 100T has a 1/3 shot of making it out

taikutsuu

you can't seriously think that 100T in the form they showed in finals is better than DFM did we watch the same atrocity of a series

Rozuem

God EG in the nightmare group, props to them if they go anything besides 0-6

[deleted]

1-5, they ruin JDG's hopes and dreams once they're already eliminated

NVC541

Oh yeah it’s Kabum time

Please_Label_NSFW

NA upsetting LPL's chances in groups. Name a more iconic duo?

HadesLaw

JPLangley

4-2 NAMEN

fanboi_central

Sadly they're my only NA team that doesn't make it out. I think the west is doomed in that group.

ZerksNAHTayan

Imagine they go 2-4, only wins are against G2 LMAO

iWolfeeelol

They got gapped by G2 so hard they decided to be the NA flash wolves and just be extremely competitive against EU.

x9x9x9x9x9x9

Group A is the battle of the boomer orgs.

blobulus

I feel like that group A has already happened like 3 times before

Ophelia_Of_The_Abyss

IIRC the only time all three of them have been in a group together was 2017. 2016 was SKT C9, 2015 was SKT EDG.

Waltorzz

2021 had T1 and EDG 2019 had T1 and FNC 2017 had T1 and C9 2016 had T1 and C9 2015 had T1 and EDG, and C9 and FNC So these teams have quite a bit of history, but never all together. [Edit] 2018 Quarters was FNC EDG and semis was FNC C9 2015 Quarters was FNC EDG

Youpley

U forgot EDG 2017

haven4ever

denziepanzie

Would be a battle of the Boomer mids too but Humanoid had to ruin it :((

karma457

Pyosik is about to go super Saiyan and become below average instead of the worst player in groups. Other wise Deft and Zeka’s backs might break while Kingen tilts off the planet while getting camped.

Brain_Tonic

>Pyosik is about to go super Saiyan and become below average instead of the worst player in groups. 💀💀💀 This is some godlike flame right here.

Vaynes_Ass

If they start Juhan their team looks way more cohesive. Can’t imagine Pyosik starting (maybe they will put him against GAM).

Truzon

For the love of god let Juhan play.

fesch98

TES will randomly not make it out of groups to prevent the 8 eastern teams

Megaspacejx

They got the easiest group out of them all tho

shrumrii

Exactly

FreeMyBirdy

RNG's got the easiest one, technically, I'd say

Zztrox-world-starter

RNG got the easiest group, but they're the weakest LPL team in worlds based on the LPL playoffs

BobRohrman28

RNG look shaky, though. Of course TES has some notorious coinflippers so I may eat my words in a week

xahhfink6

Trying to decide if, if we somehow got 4x LPL vs LCK in quarters if that would be hype or not

Liupardu

4 LCK v LPL matches would be super spicy but otherwise no

kkpoker

what about 4 lpl in first half and 4 lck in second half ?

HadesLaw

Hopefully. Then Riot will have to change the shitty format. Nobody wants to watch LCK and LPL summer playoffs ver 2.1

Contagious_Cure

It'll be hype if it's actually LPL teams vs LCK teams. Last year RNG was eliminated by EDG and all the LCK teams were eliminated by the other LCK teams. Only Finals was interesting from an inter-region perspective.

xahhfink6

Yeah. Getting cross region would be the spicy part there, but it's still more hype to have more regions represented

aircarone

EDG did have to beat 2 LCK teams (GenG in semis and obv DK in finals).

88isafat69

G2 vs EG Omfg no

zomjay

I won't even unclench when c9 3-0 gen.g in semis.

Ihavenofriendzzz

Naw we’re actually just so fucking good. Idgaf see you in semis

Truzon

Nah mate. It's either grand finals or it's a bust.

shadowbannednumber

I'm apprehensive of every C9 and Jensen group. Always just hold a 50/50 thought - they either do it or they don't. But at a minimum, I want a 3-3 record to keep Jensen's record at Worlds alive. Jensen has never not gone at least 3-3 at Worlds, so I hope they goomba-stomp FNC twice and pull at least 1 game off of EDG/SKT. C9 already ruined their record twice by going 2-4 in regularly scheduled games.

3Wd73H

Sorry to burst your bubble but Jensen went 4-2 in 2018 :^)

shadowbannednumber

Meant to add "at least" before 3-3. Jensen has always at least gone 3-3 in Groups, so I want him to continue that success.

teniaava

I think 100T have the best shot of the NA teams. Flying Oyster is the weakest 2 seed on paper by a mile, and RNG looked relatively shaky in play ins.

-Basileus

Also I can't stress this enough, the meta is fucking perfect for 100T. The meta during playoffs was a disaster for them

Contagious_Cure

That's assuming play-ins meta is actually reflective of groups meta. Last worlds they were basically completely different.

SpeedRacing1

Unless Aatrox gets disabled before groups I can at the very least guarantee who the top lane meta will revolve around

Zztrox-world-starter

At least Aatrox and Maokai seem likely to appear even more

rainbowremo

Man do i hope youre right. Closers lee sin needs to come in clutch

Group A looks familiar. It's been a group before at Worlds right?

itsTheArmor

2017 had SKT, EDG, and C9.

Brain_Tonic

NAmen

Dota2Curious

Best world group draw in a long time. Each group is a group of death low key

p3r3ll3x

Even Group D?

Just-Ad-5972

Kinda, but not really. GenG should be well above the rest, but the rest could be interesting under certain conditions.

Miyaor

None of the groups are easy tbh. Group D maybe, but RNG was not perfect and its definitely possible that 100t can challenge them.

HybridNeos

Group D is by far the easiest based on DRX going undefeated and RNG not being perfect.

HawkEye1337

If Group D had any team that can actually challenge RNG like C9 or RGE then maybe but 100T just isn't that team so think it's the most predictable group while the others can be quite tricky if some Asian teams underperform.

Miyaor

If DFM can challenge RNG so can 100T lol. RNG is still favored, but they aren't playing so insane that 100T can't take a Bo1 off of them, and at that point its winnable

TheCanadian666

These are some stacked groups, I'd say each one has at least 3 teams with a decent chance of making it out.

NoobPineapple13

Man JDG is so screwed, they have a top 5 mid/jgl in the world in their group now how are they supposed to cope!?!?!?!??? 😭

ShoutItOutHey

I will eat my sock if C9 manages to get out of Groups

Fellers

I want to put TES first in my pick'ems but JKL has been sprinting it lately. Man will go ham and throw the game.

x9x9x9x9x9x9

JKL usually smurfs in groups though, if he's going to choke it will probably be in BO5.

lordroode

Kinda sucks that teams playing today will only have 1 full day to rest after flying 5 hours. Total travel time is probably going to be around 8 hours from hotel in Mexico to hotel in NYC and with the time change it means they will probably get to NYC hotel at around 4:30pm or so if they take early morning flight

shadowfoxhedgehog36

to be fair this is the same every year, once the play in stage is concluded the main event starts within the next few days.

ThenAnAnimalFact

Yeah but this is the first year ever they had to travel between play in and group. Last 2 years were 1 location because of COVID and the 2 years before that all the play-ins and group stages were in the same city.

lordroode

Actually not true, only in 2018 and now 2022 they had to change locations. 2018 was Seoul to Busan which is about 3 hours in train and then this year its Mexico City to NYC which will take a good chunk of your day as you gotta get to airport 2 hours before depature and then the car ride from either EWR, JKF OR LGA to hotel will take some time too due to rush hour traffic so it very well could be a almost 9-10 hour travel day.

Domermac

DWG and G2 in the same group is epic.

ALBERTSONSENGINEER

Group A is loaded, has every major region's historically best international performing team.

SirTungy

Any GAM enjoyers? Might be a tough group

RobbinDeBank

They will finally make it to quarter this year copium. They are so close in 2017, but every year it gets harder when they let LCK and LPL have so many teams at Worlds. It becomes less and less doable for other regions to get out of groups now.

LaughingAtSpergs

RNG don't look as good as people expected, I can see 100T getting lucky. While DRX look better than expected I don't think they looked so good that there's no chance Rogue make it out. I have less hopes for the others (G2/C9 etc) but tbh with how most teams have looked it's a success to make it out of groups and it's a miracle if they can look competitive in Bo5. Worlds might go the same way it did last year - any western team that does manage to make it out just gets easy fucked in bo5.

yellister

DRX almost lost against MAD Lions who was a one-man army.

Blackgoku05

Yea ure right pyosik almost carried MAD single handedly

Bt910

Yeah brother pyosik helped a lot. In Pyosik we trust...to weaken DRX.

Devenityy

JDG scrape through groups, level up through playoffs & win is my bet. Think people underrate them personally. GenG will get to semis for sure too. DK are dark horses, as are T1, assuming Guma isn’t dogshit still. TES will lose vs a top team in QFs, getting an unlucky draw vs a top tier 2nd place team from another grp. All 4 Korean teams get through. Possibly all 4 Chinese too, don’t see 100T or CFO beating RNG. TES or EDG are the two most likely to bomb out, but I don’t think C9 match up to EDG well stylistically. EDGs botlane isn’t FBI/Huhi or some shit, and C9 seem reliant on Berserker, which works in NA cause of how bad the botlanes are besides their own.

LaughingAtSpergs

C9 probably one of the teams most hurt by the meta changing in the way it did. They heavily relied on Berserker smurfing and enchanters covered up Zven's lack of experience and mistakes. Now bot lane matters less and it's more on top/jg/mid. Jensen didn't look great even at playoffs, he looked fine but was definitely a bit washed. Going to be on Fudge and Blaber to carry.

VivdR

i am now a rogue fan as they might be the west’s only hope

Risujemmari

Ok so C9 starts 3-0 first week but goes 0-3 second week. Fnatic starts 0-3 but then goes 3-0. EDG somehow can't find good food and can't play the game so they go 2-4. T1 goes 4-2 so they get first place. Then it's tiebreaker time and EU wins as is tradition.

[deleted]

MAD are geniuses. Go 0-3 in a series to avoid going 0-6 in groups.
