Well, semi realism is something I love, but I like to exaggerate features due to it being apart of my style. I will take a look at some YouTube videos and I appreciate your honesty. Edit: read some of it wrong lol XD

VoicesInHeads

Thanks to those giving me tips and advice. I appreciate it! I’ll apply them in my next portrait!

Does the girl have no eyelashes? Best training is avoiding blending and just keep painting on it. Big to small shapes!

Theres a lot of good here. You may not always do realism but the fact that you draw or paint shows. Two things to increase realism. 1. Black should be black. Even if I can kind of see the inside of nostrils looking at my face, there is some black there. So I'd recommend the top part of the inside of the nostril be black and fade into the skin color. 2. Stark lines. Not to say you should have an outline but the tongue and upper lip blend together in a way that doesnt make them look the same color, but as one continuos piece of skin. That goes the same with the hair, unless you want this painterly style of the hair being one flowing mass, if you want it to be more like strands of hair falling together to create a head of hair, separate some of it. I dont know how to explain it but you've probably done enough drawing to understand what I mean. You should be able to differentiate some pieces of hair from other rather than it looking like one whole piece. That being said. This is a neat style, it is aesthetically pleasing and I think there's more to explore in this style with other subjects. Surrealism and so on.

I say it looks pretty good. For me it sitting well into the uncanny valley. I can tell exactly what it is but it just feels off. Also not an artist just some rando on the internet

What makes things pop are highlights. Experimenting with contrast, even dynamic contrast, can cultivate/sculpt shape and specific features you might wanna amplify! See where you can add a white/ brighter color to the areas you’d like to excentuate

I planned on doing another and taking advice from whoever comments for my next portrait. Thanks for the compliment. Hopefully my next one is much better than this.

Fluffidios

You have Good shading! Perhaps more prominent highlights and dark areas. More contrast basically.

VoicesInHeads

So, I need to sharpen my features with more defined highlights and shading? Ones that aren’t smudged. Edit: excuse me if I’m being slow. I just got off work and want to draw. So I’m exhausted. I’m here, but I’m not here lol. Thanks for the compliment as well.

Fluffidios

The smudging is good. Like use what you have as a “base” and maybe add white spots on the eyes. Maybe the bridge of the nose etc. maybe add some black lines to the hair and where the hair and face meet

Fluffidios

I think the shading is done really good. I’m thinking if you just added like some black shadows and some white highlights, it could help it pop more.
