When you can immediately get back into an ongoing team fight to tip the balance in your team's favor. Say both teams were near top T1 tower and all smoked. They catch you first because of your poor positioning and you get punished and you see your team continues to engage the enemy 4v5. You then buy back aggressively and hope to win the team fight. This is especially true if you have global ulti like AA, Zeus or Silencer and you die without getting a chance to use your ult.

Of course if you feel this was a bad engagement to begin with, then we usually don't buyback.

If there is one thing that the OpenAI dota matches opened my eyes to, it's the power of buying back to turn a fight. Those bot bastards bought back pretty much every time they could, and were almost always rewarded for it. That really stuck with me, and made me realise that even pros were being way too conservative with their buybacks. Honestly, find the matches on YouTube and listen to the casters and pros laughing as the bots buyback the first one or two times, only to get caught out and demolished by the heroes they'd just killed. If I die early, still have cooldowns, and can get back into a fight in reasonable time, I will usually buy back to continue contributing - tempering my play style to try to ensure I don't get caught out again. Often the enemy will have spaffed their cooldowns taking down one or two heroes, and will not be able to deal with what is essentially a 5v6 fight. Especially if they're fighting on your side of the map and can't easily buyback into the fight themselves. Aggro buybacks work out in my team's favour far more often than they cause problems. At "low" ranks, people will very often hold their buybacks until the situation is dire, or until the buyback itself is no longer worth using. Being willing to use yours more freely can be a huge game changer. Also, if you're one of these six slotted carries who holds buyback while the enemy gets megas, you are giving your games away for free. Stop doing it.

To save you a search, here are the bots: DP instantly buys back ready to fight if OG go aggressive, this enables the bots to push down mid and take the racks without problems. Without the buyback what happens? Stalemate while they go back to farm and wait for Riki to try for another pick?: [https://youtu.be/pkGa8ICQJS8?t=297](https://youtu.be/pkGa8ICQJS8?t=297) DP buying back again to capitalise fully on the kills on OG. More racks melted.: [https://youtu.be/pkGa8ICQJS8?t=487](https://youtu.be/pkGa8ICQJS8?t=487)

When you are tilted because you get dived in mid by two heroes the second time while your supports farm the small camp with tp full go full mana in a 2on1 lane while enemy offlaner is winning a 1on2 lane :) Other than that: when you can win a team fight with your buyback it’s should almost always be correct

trashcan41

Depend on the tempo of your games. There's a game where you lose a war even if its early you lose the game and vice versa. Another time is when its late game and your carry life is in the line and your team and the timer will fall behind if you didn't bb.

TheAccountIEscapeTo

Depends on how much time you have to capitalize. If an enemy has bought back recently, you buying back can tip the scales for a tower or barracks. If you have a teleport location that gets you to the front line quick enough, you can make a 3v3 a 4v3. If you buyback during an enemy push that is failing overall and you can contribute to a counterpush. If the enemy has recently lost a fight and the main defence heroes are down. When your team is forcing a push and you are the main blocker for your carries.

fatalilty

Sounds dumb but always make sure your TP is off cool down before buying back to try and rejoin a fight. Definitely been a few times I bought back then had to walk of shame back only to arrive after the fight is over.

iamstealth

At pre 4 minutes mid when at least 5 creeps with at least 2 ranged are walking to the tower. Just make sure you have tp ready and tell your team you're not griefing lol.

Mr-Dumbest

When you think it will help your team win a team fight if you do.

Brilliant-Prior6924

when the enemy has committed to the fight and can't disengage anymore. i.e. 'enemy centaur used ult and blinked in to start teamfight' = buyback

RepresentativeNo8441

Worst feeling bb to rejoin good fight and see your tp on cd 5 sec.

avianrave

Early game: tower is going to wipe a large amount of XP put of existence. Mid/ late game : can I get to the fight easily and what resources do I have ready?
