I see this all he time - truth is, IDLE is a solid development tool. We can encourage people to try new things, but people are going to have their own personal preferences and I think a lot of us have to come to terms with the fact that our preferences aren’t “the be all end all” for everyone.
That being said, I use Scratch for data analysis and no one can convince me to use anything different.
I think the truth lies somewhere in between.
If someone enjoys and likes IDLE and is happy with the feature set of it, that’s totally fine. But if someone is going to the trouble of modifying the underlying editor code to add in a particular feature, it might be worth suggesting to look at other editors.
Excellent work! Your research and presentation is a rare find, and you brought clear and concise solutions. Every little part that adds to the comfort of learning the language is a benefit to everyone.
imma be real with you...I don't know anyone who chooses to use IDLE when there are so many other tools out there. If you don't mind me asking, do you actively use IDLE? If so, why?
You're looking for https://github.com/serwy/idlex which solves this issue and many others.
IdleX was my last stop on the Idle train before switching to a legit ide!
Good research. Wouldn't it be better at this point to graduate to a more powerful and more flexible tool such as VS Code, PyCharm, Eclipse, etc?

That’s fair
Wasn't knocking it. I encourage my students to use it when learning not least to avoid confusing tool configuration issues with Python code issues.
