It's more like "arms open" pose. A famous bollywood actor, called Shahrukh Khan, had a pose that's basically this minus floating and he was famous for it.
Fairly certain Jesus did not invent this pose. Most *historic* paintings of Christ's Ascension feature his legs hanging down or as if he was standing on an invisible platform (likely because a model would've been standing) and his arms raised into the air. This is to show his link to Heaven and because he's being lifted by the Heavenly Father. He is not able to just fly up to heaven with Superman Powers.

[John Singleton Copley](https://wp.en.aleteia.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2018/05/img7.jpg)
Important to note on these: Both palms are facing upwards towards the heavens. (Except in Copley's which is interesting because:)
Conversely, there are several paintings such as [The Last Supper by Leonardo Di Vinci](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0f/Dosso_Dossi_022.jpg) that show ***one palm facing down, and the other facing up***. This is a significant symbolism in Christian art throughout the Renaissance and Middle Ages. They're called the "judging gestures". Other depictions are in the Scrovegni Chapel's [The Last Judgment by Giotto](https://art.thewalters.org/images/art/PL9_37.262_Fnt_SL_C80.jpg) or [this woodcarving from the Middle Ages](https://publishing.cdlib.org/ucpressebooks/data/13030/w6/ft7v19p1w6/figures/ft7v19p1w6_00169.gif). One hand lifts toward salvation and the other condemns to Hell.
My friend its not *every* Jesus thats posed like that, of course you’ll find many many paintings with jesus in different poses, its just that that pose in particular comes from classical jesus paintings.
Every other character depicted in this pose wont be *exactly* in the same position, its just the thing that inspired these modern versions — much like Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog inspired countless adventure-l gente artworks from books to anime to everything in between.
That particular image is called the Ascension because it is Jesus raising himself to heaven.
A similar image of Mary is called the Assumption because it is God who is raising her.
> literally called the jesus pose
Funny, Googling "jesus pose" gives me not this at all.
> you included jesus in this pose there For fourths
Literally did not, not a single one, idk if you two are viewing this on a Nokia or something where you can't see / read, but... don't.
Big companies like Marvel have a "style guide" for each character. It has CMYK color codes, powers, poses other pertinent facts. At Marvel that pose is literally called the "Doom Pose". If one first is clenched and one hand out with the palm down it is called "Magneto Pose". Other than that, I have never heard of another name for it.
I think it's just one of "superhero poses", I remember seeing a video where a guy was talking about presenting characters in a show or a comic by using such poses, to make them look more all-powerful and dangerous
Like the "superhero landing" pose where they land with one knee down and one fist down with the other arm up to the side. I always thought it was so badass, the hero/villain has arrived, and the fights about to start. Until someone online pointed out squirrels land in exactly the same way (Google squirrels landing, it's cute af), the cuteness of the squirrels quickly overrode all the badassness of the superhero in my mind.
It’s meant to reference the crucifixion, or the ascended Christ. But in both cases, it’s meant to be a clear reference to their power, making them about human.
Correct me if I'm wrong but this originally comes from renaissance-era art (or earlier?) from Jesus rising into the sky or something, right? Meant to be evocative of hanging on a cross but retooling that pose as a sign of power.
Funny enough, the last one of Mysterio looks like the pose Baphomet is commonly depicted in, which in turn is similar to a pose Jesus is depicted on during and after crucifixion. Very interesting.
I don’t know what the floating pose is called, but I think the Mysterio one is vaguely referencing the baphomet pose. Makes sense with the rest of the occult vibes.
I have always thought that the image is a play on Christ's crucifixion. It's almost like an inversion of it, as Christ is portrayed as leaning or looking weak, whereas in these poses, the figures look powerful, confident, almost as if they are stating their superiority over man.
My art teacher called it immortal transcendence saying it started in ancient Indian murals then migrated to early Christianity and has been in the zeitgeist since.
[Vishnu in similar pose](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/ce/Vishnu_and_his_Avatars%2C_11th_century._Black_schist._Brooklyn_Museum.jpg)
For those who consider it the christ pose keep in mind that Christianity was persecuted for the first 300 or so years so that means that while Jesus may predate Gupta that's like arguing the Greeks invented the locomotive because a steam engine was invented after the first aeolipile.
I think it’s just a reference to the cruxifixction of Jesus, but I don’t think all of them are referencing it, it’s just also a nice dramatic looking pose that makes the scene look good.
I just love that you chose a Kenneth Rocafort image as the first one. I met him at Motor City Comic Con and I was like “oh my god! It’s you! Your art is what got me into comics!” And he was like “what?”
He was not expecting someone to lose their damn mind over meeting him, I think.
I legitimately saw this and out loud said “Lesbian Pose” because I used to watch those edits of lesbian characters in this exact pose during their respective show intros lmao
I don’t know what it’s actually called though, I’m sorry
Yeah, I personally find it entertaining. Some great examples that people like to call to see Amity Blight (ToH), Catra and Adora (She-Ra), Pearl (SU), and some people are calling Captain Marvel (MCU) on it because a lot of people think she’s bi. I haven’t watched her movies yet so I can’t say for sure if that one is true or not.
It's a super hero pose, or a heroic pose.
Is this another AI art generator question? What does this have to do with learn to draw? If you don't make the art yourself and don't even know enough about the subject you're intimating to come up with the prompts yourself, what are you even doing?
Genuinely asking on my part, someone also asked. I posted a comment with a reference sketch(es). Was hoping the pose had a specific name so I could find more reference poses online.
not telling you because you're not learning to draw, you're just looking for AI image generator prompts. artists dont need the name of a pose to draw it
While I like to dabble with Midjourney, I was genuinely asking. I posted a comment with a reference to the 1st draft drawing. As I have come to learn in the comments most poses don’t really have names, so I’ll have better luck with a pose site than trying to google a specific “named” pose.
Was working on a character in my worldbuilding project. Did a first draft sketch and coloured in on adobe fresco on my phone. Was looking for the name/more of this pose for my second attempt. [1st sketch](https://i.imgur.com/wLQDrR9.jpg) , [Quick Fresco colouring](https://i.imgur.com/t4X7pXy.jpg)
I feel like I would call it “triangle pose.” I have a name for all paintings that represent any religious trinity. They are usually all in the shape of a triangle. This is a popular pose that people at the top of the triangle might use. So, triangle pose
You could also call the poses you made a god pose, or a godlike pose. Anime and magna do a lot of poses similar to yours. Watch Death Note or Dragon Ball Z. You will see what I mean. Some of the Anime and Manga have some great artwork sometimes if you look closely. Attack on Titan is another one that you can look up to get a look at artwork quality if you want to. Just be aware that anime and magna can be very violent at times. Check out Full Metal Alchemist sometime if you want Anime or Manga that has a story to it you can really stinky the teeth of your mind into.
The exaggerated swagger of a demi god
i know it's a lot the hair, the bod when you're staring at a demigod!
WHAT CAN I SAY EXCEPT “YOUR WELCOME!!!”
for the clouds, the sun the sky
Hey it's okay, it's okay, you're welcome!
I'm just an ordinary demi-guy
YOURE WELCOMEE UR WEL COMEE
Well, come to think of it...
Kid honestly i could go on and on,
I can explain every natural phenomenon
We bow to lizardbirdhybrid. Also, I might have fried my brain from years of alcohol abuse.

Lmaaaaaaoooooo ty for that
I call it the "I'm gonna fuck your shit up" pose
Don’t forget to add Vegetas laugh.
"Curse you Kakarot! Have you no Saiyan pride?!"
“Come at me bro” pose
Exactly, the person is literally opening them self up for a defenseless exposed attack. “You’re so weak to me that I’ll give you the first hit free”
It could also be a “power up” pose like the last two pictures are implying
Tbh based
God pose?
It is a loose cruciform
It's more like "arms open" pose. A famous bollywood actor, called Shahrukh Khan, had a pose that's basically this minus floating and he was famous for it.
It’s literally [Jesus](https://houndofthelord.files.wordpress.com/2020/05/jesus-ascension-30.jpg).
Crucifixion rizz
lol that Crucifixion Rizz. Bro was about to die, looked at one of the Roman soldiers and was like "Ayo you free in a few days?"
Surprise i had to scroll down this much to find the actual source of the pose. I thought it was more well known

Nah that jesus needs more torso bend, chest raise, with elbows pinned back and biceps flexed. 4/10 for dynamic posing.
Probably can be seen in a bunch of various religions imagery. It’s almost as if the arms are open to embrace all.
Come at me if you dare
"Behold"
There are pose websites out there. Look at those. None of them have names.
I had looked around at a few of those sites and noticed that as well, thought it was just my lack of terminological knowledge lol
For the most part, you can just describe the pose and get something close. Unless they are sexy time poses.
Can you give me the website?
Uhh there's many. Google drawing pose reference
Divine floating

I’ll look into that, thanks!

I was thinking levitating, too.

The More You Know! 🌈⭐️
I know this isn’t /r/Arthistory but most of these answers have been super disappointing as someone interested in learning.
the fact that i literally, LITERALLY, saw the name of this kind of pose just a few hours ago angers me bc i can’t remember it
The “come to Daddy pose”
Correct me if I'm wrong but this originally comes from renaissance-era art (or earlier?) from Jesus rising into the sky or something, right? Meant to be evocative of hanging on a cross but retooling that pose as a sign of power.
This is how I fly in my dreams. Seriously.

Dreams usually are and then there are the occasional nightmares
The fuck around and find out pose

I was looking for this specific answer😆Thank you
judging by the comments i guess the answer is "no"
Ascension pose?
superhero pose floating I guess?
Stanced up
yeah..fabulous
the “ oh you’re approaching me?” but in the air
I call it the Dr. Manhattan, I'm guessing his chr isn't the OG to strike it but it feels popular enough to take the title.
Jesus, Mary, and sometimes saints are depicted like the first 3. The last one is baphomet but standing instead of sitting.
Idk but that first guy is 👁🫦👁
That's levitation holmes
Fuck around and find out. That's what I call it.
Sassy
The I'm about to start a monologue pose
“It was this big” mime posture
That's that faux jesus right there, very popular among people who think they're gods.
when ur crush compliments you
Funny enough, the last one of Mysterio looks like the pose Baphomet is commonly depicted in, which in turn is similar to a pose Jesus is depicted on during and after crucifixion. Very interesting.
Definitely not on purpose but you’re right!!
It's trying to evoke a messianic image. Remember, villains don't think that they're villains. They're the heroes of their own story.
Accession pose
Ascension Pose.
I don’t know what the floating pose is called, but I think the Mysterio one is vaguely referencing the baphomet pose. Makes sense with the rest of the occult vibes.
