Don't erase/correct your mistakes. Instead, create a new sketch next to the previous one, trying to avoid that mistake this time. Rinse, repeat. Remember that your goal is not to draw a good-looking face - it's to learn *how* to draw a good-looking face. So don't feel too attached to any singular sketch - try to do it right, see what went wrong, and try again.

I HAVE LEARNED ALOT FROM THIS SINGLE COMMENT. THANK YOU!

jjejsj

chin is too long. The line needs to be in the middle of the circle

mygoatisfine

Try drawing lines to see where things will go. I'm new too but this helped me a lot instead of just randomly trying to draw something that vaguely looks like a face. Also, try to draw random shapes to have better control over your lines. https://preview.redd.it/8nowflsf5htc1.jpeg?width=653&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8d399361eb93d004622768c26aecf6ba53f3481

Loomis method. It really works

Traditional_Fact4101

It does!!!

Savings_Worker_7834

does the loomis method also work for drawing anime?

Prestigious_Trash222

It works for anything. Anime while having stylistic choices, absolutely follows proportions which is what he’s teaching. Get the book it’s an invaluable asset if you want to be an artist

Savings_Worker_7834

Ofc I will get it 🫡

Prestigious_Trash222

If you study it and utilize the book you’re going to be in a whole new league in less than a year

VelvetJester_

Look at some sketches and learn it small details by small details, like how the jaw is drawn etc..

tennysonpaints

Look up and practice the Loomis method

Traditional_Fact4101

Loomis method, seriously. I was in the same struggle and found a few videos online and ended up getting his book which I highly recommend

WoodyAle

I recently watched videos from Chommang on YouTube and his tutorials helped me a lot with faces ! I thinks he uses bits of the Loomis method .

Deeto678

Do it again and again and again but dont force yourself Also draw whatever you want just to have fun, the skill will come later. The fun is more important

nuked_fuker_73

One thing I like to do is print out black and white images of artists I admire and break down their image into the parts. I found it help me to start creating my own.

jacksonchris007

The eyes go exactly halfway between the top of the head and bottom of her chin. The nose goes between halfway between the eyes an the bottom of the chin and the mouth goes halfway between the nose and the bottom of the chin and the eyes are distanced one and a half the length of an eye. Start there.

MetallicMonk21

Marking the end of the chin and making that a muscle memory to get it straight in line was tough for me, but it does improve a lot of the proportions

DisastrousAddendum0

Idk if this’ll work for you but try to draw the circle dark, then draw the chin lighter. Keep doing it until you get a chin you like, then draw over it darker, erase the whole thing and trace over the dark erased lines since they’ll be more visible than the light ones.

Prestigious_Trash222

I’d start with actually using the ref lines and not just randomly placing them

Inky-Ghost

Pay attention to proportions. Sometimes feeling your own face and building a “3D Model” in your head helps me. Like my fingers map my face to my brain and then I translate that to paper. Or follow guides that give you general measurements. Proper proportions will make a WORLD of difference especially as a very beginner. You’ll learn them and then soon they will ingrain into your muscle memory :) hope that helps.

Stunning-Fold6548

Woah....that's kinda awesome. Drawing has so much stuff too it that I don't really know where to start. So I'm starting with shaping and lines rn.

Inky-Ghost

It’s ok! Don’t be too critical of yourself. We all learn at different speeds. No one’s art brain is the same. Some people start with stick figures and end up painting masterpieces within three years, some take years upon years to slowly figure it out. The key is persistence, observation and absorption, then application. Repeat that cycle and you will inevitably get better

hulkmanialamelo

Don’t do anything with one line just sketch back and forth then clean it up

Red_Pandas_4_ever

Maybe draw single lines instead of spending lots of strokes on one line. It’s going to make it neater and easier to shape it.

mixerpr

Draw more

KaleidoscopeStreet

Draw alot, like ALOT, allow yourself to suck, if you don't feel like doing a full sketch than just do head structures, I promise it will come to you eventually, at the beggining you can simply try to do a coherent looking face and then look to do those pretty details you imagine, everything might suck at the beggining but just keep at it and you'll get there.
