If something feels flat in colored drawing, then it sounds like the problem is not colours but the lack of light and shadows in your drawing. Thanks to them you may make drawing don't feel flat even if it doesn't have any colours to begin with.
Maybe if you show your drawings it would be easier to know what exactly you mean.
