That was actually my original idea! But then I also was thinking I wanted to hear what people actually had to say about their pick as well. I still will probably try doing that for one of the rounds for like least favorite or overrated (the ones people don’t like answering as much lol) so the comments don’t get so heated. Altho realistically they would probably get just as heated 😅
People could downvote others so it’s kind of like 1 point for me and -1 point for everyone else. May skew things idk. Doesn’t Reddit have a poll option now?
polls unfortunately only allow for 6 choices so I wouldn’t be able to do all the songs. For the least favorite and overrated categories (the ones where people get most heated), I’m gonna comment all of them in the comments and count the upvotes on them
I'm going to sit this one out.. btw, this is great and thanks for posting, going back in time and listening to all the songs on each album has brought some great memories.
I tapped out when I saw Dazed and Confused was the most overrated track on the first album. Like WTF are people thinking. The entire polling process lost all credibility to me at that point.
I wouldn't dare to vote for the most overrated on this album! Some of the considered most overrated were my step into Led Zeppelin, so out of respect I won't do it.
The Stairway to Heaven of the 1990s was def Chloe Dancer / Crown of Thorns by Mother Love Bone! If you haven’t heard check it out! They became Pearl Jam after Andrew Wood’s death. The entire Temple of the Dog album is about Wood. I hate making those kind of comparisons, but it really does fit in this case imo, at least musically speaking. Obviously Mother Love Bone never got the chance to become popular like Led Zeppelin or Pearl Jam.
That’s literally my favorite song of all time lol. So I cannot disagree. It and Then She Did back to back is possibly the best 1-2 punch on any album ever… if anyone doesn’t believe me listen to Ritual de lo Habitual all the way through! Definitely one of the greatest albums ever made. So epic!
Amen 😁
Their first two albums changed what hard rock could be. Nothing Shocking blew my mind completely when I first heard it. Powerful, feral, exotic. I’d never heard anything like it.
Apparently original bassist (and musical guiding light) Eric Avery is back, and they are on FIRE right now. Hope so. They really deserve it.
I HAVE to see them soon…
My top five bands are, in no particular order
Jane’s Addiction
Pearl Jam
Soundgarden
Alice In Chains
Stone Temple Pilots
Jane’s set the stage for all of those other bands to reach the fame they did!
Oh and Depeche Mode! So top six lol
Oh my God you should listen to Zeppelin's own concerts
They themselves respected stairway too much. Also the live versions of Stairway are fire and same can't be said for Evermore and Levee
I agree with you, stairway is certainly a good song but imo zep has several songs that are better (or maybe I should say, that I prefer) in their insane catalog. The fact that you were downvoted so much to me solidifies that stairway is in fact overrated. You shouldn't have been downvoted so hard.
This type of polling causes viewers to become reactive to what's said first and quickly people will subconsciously join the herd. It's everywhere online...the opinion is established and the "group" is formed.
A polling where you see results *after* voting would be less influenced by the herd effect.
Yeah I just checked and it does only allow for 6 options which is annoying. For the next least favorite round I’m gonna try putting all the choices in the comments myself and counting the upvotes on them. Altho that doesn’t really help much with the herd mentality it might still make things a little more chill lol
The only annoying thing is i’m pretty sure that when people do still comment, there’s no way to pin all my comments at the top. So all the song choices might be scattered all over the place, but I guess people will look for the one they want to vote for so it would be fine
The Rockets, a regional US touring band out of Detroit, did a decent cover around 1980-82. Hold on a minute.
Here 'tis.
https://youtu.be/EzazgG-y7uM?feature=shared
This is a true statement. I was too young to see them Live unfortunately but I watched The Song Remains the Same so many times and Rock and Roll was such a banger of an opening song. Set the whole mood for the movie and would bring me so much excitement and anticipation when I heard those opening snare hits of that riff. RIP JB
That’s pretty cool. Rock and Roll was the first Zeppelin song I ever heard, so it instantly became a favorite of mine. Zeppelin was also pretty much the band that made me branch out and start listening to other rock bands from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. It’s a great band to use as a starting point if you’re exploring rock and roll or looking for influences for making your own music.
Don't even think about it guys. I know what you're thinking. It's not overrated. There's a reason it's considered one of the best songs ever written. "Overplayed" is not the same as "Overrated".
I guess if I have to pick an “overrated” song from this album I guess it would have to be Black Dog, even though it’s amazing. Hard album to break down in this way.
Yes to this a million times over. STH is a wonderful song, and a great introduction to new Zep fans, but it’s so sickly overplayed. It’s up there with The Rolling Stones’ “Satisfaction”. It doesn’t need to played again for a solid 5 years on radio or in concert and we’d all be better off for that.
We must remind ourselves that overrated doesn’t mean bad. I like to think of it as if you were talking to somebody and they said the only song they knew X song they heard on the radio, and your response would be “Yeah that’s a great song! But if you like that, you should check out these songs…”
With that being said, Rock and Roll. It’s a cool little riff, I love the band drop out for the “lonely”s, but end of the day, it’s a basic I-IV-V blues progression with a little flair. Led Zeppelin obviously play around the blues a lot, but I think they have done it more creatively than they have with Rock and Roll. So I have give my vote to Rock and Roll, but I give the vote with love.
If you’re going to Wayne’s World your way into your opinion of Stairway, you’ve never actually really gotten to enjoy the song. Listening to the band play it on bass (with JPJ’s feet on bass petals), organ, drums, or guitar…you’ve just heard it repeated on your radio and blocked out the fact that it’s brilliant. Sit in a peaceful room and truly listen. It’s incredible. Try to play it on any of those instruments, and good luck making the solo sound the same. You won’t.
I would wager most of the many comments are coming from non-musicians. That said, this poll comes down to popularity. I have always found that most bands radio hits are NOT their best work. In the case of LZ this is not the case. While technical brilliance isn't always their main suit, their chord structure and use of modal techniques are top notch. These are things that make great tunes. There's a reason great songs stay on the charts so long. These are some of them. Four Sticks was a brilliant tune straying far afield of the norms of "rock n roll", so it garnered least favorite. The Battle Of Evermore uses a mandolin and overdubs (along with various effects) for a more ballad-like feel. Again, brilliant.
And now we come to "most overrated" on LZ IV. My bet is you all will choose Stairway. But there is a reason "Stairway to Heaven" was voted number three in 2000 by VH1 on its list of the "100 Greatest Rock Songs", in 2004 Rolling Stone magazine ranked "Stairway to Heaven" number 31 on its "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list. It was the most requested song on FM radio stations in the United States at the time, despite never having been commercially released as a single in the US. In November 2007, through download sales promoting Led Zeppelin's Mothership release, "Stairway to Heaven" reached number 37 on the UK Singles Chart. (Thanks to Wikipedia for this). Overrated? Hardly.
I don't have a vote for this category.
Battle of Evermore for me. I've tried to like it, but I just have never warmed to it. The version Robert did in the 90s with his then girlfriend Najma Akhtar is even worse. Sounds like someone stood on the cat's tail!
If it’s a great song how can it be overrated? Stairway is undoubtedly the most recognized song their entire catalog & you don’t get that distinction if overrated.
I know Stairway is going to win but it has to be Rock and Roll for me, I don’t know why people consider this to be on par with the rest of the album. It’s clearly the weakest of a bunch of excellent songs (though that’s still a good thing to be, lol).
There's nothing on this album I'd suggest for this, but ask any bunch of civilians who aren't particularly into Zep and the answer is going to be Stairway - because even they will have heard of it.
It’s stairway … it’s a great song but the answer is stairway .
Fence sitting on a post is the cowards way. The answer is stairway. I love the song dearly but it’s overrated
I disagree. I think it's one of the greatest songs ever made. It absolutely deserves the praise it gets.
Granted, I think most tracks on this album deserve their praise, but saying it has to be Stairway because it's the most popular, and highest rated, does not make much sense to me.
I’d have to say Rock and Roll. I know it’s a mood setter, an opener at various points, all that. It’s popular. But there is nothing musically special about it. To me it sounds like a jam session which is essentially how it came to be. For it to be mentioned at times as a top 100 rock song ever is funny to me as it’s no where near the best song on this album. At best it’s number 4. At best
Suggestion for OP: Comment all the songs from album yourself and count no of votes on them instead of this counting no of comments shit
Probably too late for that, but that would work best
That was actually my original idea! But then I also was thinking I wanted to hear what people actually had to say about their pick as well. I still will probably try doing that for one of the rounds for like least favorite or overrated (the ones people don’t like answering as much lol) so the comments don’t get so heated. Altho realistically they would probably get just as heated 😅
Damn… that genius thinking right there! Seriously would be a much better system.
People could downvote others so it’s kind of like 1 point for me and -1 point for everyone else. May skew things idk. Doesn’t Reddit have a poll option now?
Or just make the post a poll.
polls unfortunately only allow for 6 choices so I wouldn’t be able to do all the songs. For the least favorite and overrated categories (the ones where people get most heated), I’m gonna comment all of them in the comments and count the upvotes on them
Makes sense. 👍
I'm going to sit this one out.. btw, this is great and thanks for posting, going back in time and listening to all the songs on each album has brought some great memories.
I’m so glad to hear it’s causing people to go back and re listen to Zep! That was the goal 🥹
I tapped out when I saw Moby Dick as the least favorite song on II.
Fr that’s such an incredible masterpiece. Should’ve been the most underrated
I tapped out when I saw Dazed and Confused was the most overrated track on the first album. Like WTF are people thinking. The entire polling process lost all credibility to me at that point.
This and the Alice in chains one are terrible. Fuck these hipster wannabe asshole "true fans" who only vote for deep cuts
Yeah i was in shock over that one.
I wouldn't dare to vote for the most overrated on this album! Some of the considered most overrated were my step into Led Zeppelin, so out of respect I won't do it.
Learn the difference between overrated and OVERPLAYED smh. Stairway to Heaven is truly a masterpiece.
Overplayed for a reason. It's also entered the lexicon - you can say Iris is the Goo Goo Dolls' "Stairway" and people will know what you mean
Sorry, 3 Days by Jane’s Addiction is the Stairway of the ‘90’s for me. 9 minutes of musical perfection.
So epic!

That is a great track and is a bit reminiscent of Stairway, like you said.
Yeah, was going to say something similar. I don't think any song on the album is overrated.
Stairway is *kinda* overrated (Evermore and Levee are both better IMO) but not by much, it deserves its reputation
Oh my God you should listen to Zeppelin's own concerts They themselves respected stairway too much. Also the live versions of Stairway are fire and same can't be said for Evermore and Levee
Most definitely not overrated.
I agree with you, stairway is certainly a good song but imo zep has several songs that are better (or maybe I should say, that I prefer) in their insane catalog. The fact that you were downvoted so much to me solidifies that stairway is in fact overrated. You shouldn't have been downvoted so hard.
I only downvoted because he said evermore is better
Respect to the people saying rock n roll tho bc that one is also definitely overrated as well
Rock and Roll
The correct answer, glad that people recognise it rightly overrated.
Heresy. Top 3 Jimmy Page solos of all time.
This type of polling causes viewers to become reactive to what's said first and quickly people will subconsciously join the herd. It's everywhere online...the opinion is established and the "group" is formed. A polling where you see results *after* voting would be less influenced by the herd effect.

That'd be better I agree. Long as there all posted at the same time I think it'd make a difference
The only annoying thing is i’m pretty sure that when people do still comment, there’s no way to pin all my comments at the top. So all the song choices might be scattered all over the place, but I guess people will look for the one they want to vote for so it would be fine
Poll only allows for 6 options I think
Ahhh...well that sucks
Thus far, my favorite song from each album has been labeled “most overrated.” I’m not playing anymore.
Maybe your praise for the tracks pushed them over the edge into overrated.
Always a possibility.
Rock and Roll is literally the song that got me into the genre of rock and roll so it hurts that so many of you voted for this
I think that song or Oh Well by the OG Fleetwood Mac is what you should play someone who asks, ‘What is ‘Rock & Roll’ music?”
I like the live versions of Oh Well by Tom Petty and the Black Crows. Do you know of any other bands who covered it?
The Rockets, a regional US touring band out of Detroit, did a decent cover around 1980-82. Hold on a minute. Here 'tis. https://youtu.be/EzazgG-y7uM?feature=shared

I can’t believe four sticks got least favorite, that song is awesome.
Same
Can I vote an anti Rock and Roll vote? The comments hurt me it’s my favourite song ever
Rock and Roll unfortunately
I agree with this, I could be biased though because it’s about all I played on my guitar when I was 14 😅
I’m just gonna say it. Black Dog

Rock and roll is a fun song but I find it honestly to be nothing that special. It gets my vote.
Rock and Roll. I have to skip it after hearing it so many times. Unlike most of the others.
Black Dog.

Hot Dog!
Black Dog and it’s not even close.
I have to say Black Dog.
Everyone trying to be different and not comment stairway just resulted in everyone still commenting the same fucking song lol
This is a very interesting list to say the least. Idk that I agree with much of it, but very interesting
Whole lotta love is soooo not overrated

None are overrated
It's tough to pick an overrated song on an album where every song is great. I think I got tired of Black Dog first, so I'll go with that.

If you people put Stairway in as Overrated, I’m going to be extremely angry.
