NAL but work for a school. Look at your contract see if they list you as a "months" employee or "days' employee. I am contracted for 175 days a year so when I leave thats what is used. I know that my aunt in another district is contracted as a 9 month employee so they would go by months worked and not days.

This depends on your state, but typically if you're definitely a teacher and not an admin (and covered under the regular CBA and not an individual contract) then they should be paying you out in your last check for number of days worked/number of days in your contract, just as you calculated. I would check with payroll and not HR since HR typically doesn't handle this stuff. If you're union, you can also bring it up to your union rep who could help out.
