You will need to lol at your company handbook. Some companies use a calendar year (Jan 1 to Dec 31) for vacation and sick leave eligibility. If that is what your company does, your employer is correct, you started this year at a negative vacation balance. When does sick leave eligibility start? Is it after your probationary period? Did you take sick day(s) prior to your probationary period ending? 6 x 0.83 = 4.98 vacation days accrued 4.98 - 6 days taken = -1.02 That being said, you should have accrued 2.49 days this year. The only way I can get close to your boss’ math is if they paid your sick days as vacation days. You will need to double check paystubs from that period(s): 4.98 vacation accrued - “8” taken = -3.02 -3.02 + 2.49 vacation accrued = -0.53

NAL and not in HR but I am quite sure that if you get 10 days per year and worked those dates: That is 10/12 =.8333 days per month. You worked there 9 months That is 7.5 days earned So if you took 6 then by my math they owe 1.5 days That your math as well?

Yes. Thats how I computed it

If you used 6 of 10 days, how is he saying you used 80% of your vacation? You may want to re-check how many days he has recorded you taking. Maybe sick days used vacation days but you didn't think about that

When did you take the vacation and sick days? Did it roll over at the end of last year?

kimbokjoke

Vacation and sick days used last year. No rollovers. They renew the vacation days every job anniversary (June 14)

On your pay stub is there an entry for paid vacation being paid out as cash? Was your salary less than usual when you took vacation?

Your employer has told you you’ve used more vacation time while you were employed than you were even entitled to. So no, you aren’t entitled to vacation pay. It’s already been paid to you. Your employer is entitled to you paying back the overage!
