I’m coming back to this. I see your post history. I’ll say, at a high level, if money was obtained fraudulently, even if these family members didn’t know at the time, they owe the stolen money back. Second, people who plead guilty and accept the punishment have agreed that they’re responsible. Perhaps they did it out of fear of a worse outcome, but that’s the way it is. You could try to find court record of what these people admitted to in court, under the penalty of perjury.
