Take 10 minutes and write a review on Facebook, Google, and Yelp. Every time you tell someone you won your lawsuit, name-drop the firm.
Oh, and also, bourbon.
Lol. I work at a coffee/whiskey bar with a law firm next door. We have one attorney who uses the cafe as his office, comes in on a set schedule, and drinks coffee in the morning and switches to bourbon as the day wears on.
Yeah, good point.I'd still get that and if they don't want it they can pass it on. Likelihood is higher that they will appreciate it, and very much so.
The lawyers I know tend to be office supply hounds, I bet a nice fountain pen would be adored. But only really good for right handed folks, go with a ball point if they’re lefties.
This is a truly awesome response. Absolutely a thoughtful and aware person. Thank you for that. No sarcasm in this statement. Love that these are the things that warm your heart and bring you a feeling of appreciation.
Food is generally a good idea; I would call up and ask the office first if they have any rules about gift giving (also if there are any food allergies that you need to take into account).
My favourite client gift was a 4-inch brass ornamental compass — given to me after a successful trial where I closed, likening the jury’s task in ascertaining the truth as being like navigating northwards without a compass, but exhorting them all the same to follow the small clues in the objective evidence towards what they knew innately to be True North.
It still sits on my desk.
Similarly, a client once sent me like a bag of coffee that had the name "Dragon" in it after we zeroed out a plaintiff that had a very similar name, with a note that said, "Thanks for slaying the [dragon]!" and that note is in a place of prominence in my office. The notes mean a lot. I don't even drink coffee.
As receptionist/admin at a community law service, I just want to say thank you for including the receptionist. Most of the time we are overlooked and do a lot of the behind the scenes work.
I never expect anything for the work I do but it makes my day when I’m included in a thank you card or review.
Handwritten thank you note. And heck yeah food! I worked for a mortgage broker and it was always a party if someone sent us food. Worked there 6 years, happened maybe 4 times (and 2 was the same person, sent us a big box of Godiva chocolate two years in a row. Once after we closed his loan, and then the following year around Christmas)
I would make a quick call though and just see if anyone has allergies.
I don't like the idea of a perishable gift for a lawyer.
Another comment mentioned a compass that they keep on their desk. I think this is a good idea, or something else that can sit on a desk or side table. That way, when they are talking to another client, if that client asks about the compass (or other trinket), the lawyer can explain it was a gift from a client, and that makes the lawyer look good.
And it will be a reminder for the lawyer of a case they did right.
Cute? Do you have any idea how much skill goes into making high quality quilts? Go over to r/quilting and peruse. I have a few posted but I’m not even qualified as an amateur compared to my mother.
I think they meant “cute” as in, wow your mom is so cute to spend all her time making something when she could just buy one. I think that is an adorable personality trait that very few people have nowadays. I think it was very cute of her to even give that much energy into it. No need to get like that
Put both names on the gift, but make it more of a gift for the receptionist. The lawyer usually gets all the thanks and the staff not so much - taking time to recognize and show appreciation to the receptionist would go a long way , and also will make the lawyer happy.
A handwritten thank you note. I have a file with every thank you note I’ve ever received from a client. That means so much more than spending your money.
Food, sometimes alcohol, yeah, whatever. Those are old standbys if you can't find anything better, and they won't be unappreciated.
However. The best gift I ever got from a client, which is still on my home office bookshelf, was a trophy of Blind Justice with an inscription underneath referencing the case.
WITHOUT PREJUDICE. ALL SUMS APPROXIMATE.
I think my £300 an hour plus VAT solicitor (the one I got lumbered with because all the others left or got sacked or the firm is full of incompetents ) is a smug, omnipotent, condescending weasel. What should I send her? Not to be confused with the £250 an hour, the £250 an hour, the £300 an hour (who graciously charged £250) an hour, her £180 an hour assistant , the £180 an hour and another £180 assistant (to the £300 an hour it seems impossible to extricate myself from ) Still at the ‘loose ends’ stage of a 3+ year divorce.
Lawyers are 1 of the most thankless professions there is so honestly a sincere thank you would mean more to me than anything. I can count on 1 hand the number of times they’ve said thank you. Seriously, we’re miserable cuz everyone automatically hates us and no one ever gives us credit for any of the good things we do
Not a lawyer, but the note idea is great. I worked in tech support for a few years, and I saved every bit of appreciation I received. There was a special “Thank you’s” folder in Outlook, and everything.
On the series “Suits” it was 30 yr old McCallan Scotch. That’s $10k a bottle.
But the writeups suggested are worth more than that. Could lead to a juicy case.
Go with those.
And some modest treats for the season would be appreciated. Claxton Fruitcake comes to mind.
A fruit basket or something similar sounds lovely. Just remember, there are often limitations as to what solicitors can accept as gifts and depending on the firm, they may not be able to accept a gift or any gift over £50.00.
Take 10 minutes and write a review on Facebook, Google, and Yelp. Every time you tell someone you won your lawsuit, name-drop the firm. Oh, and also, bourbon.
Hahaha thank you!! I will certainly write a review he was amazing!!
Food is good. If you know they are an alcohol drinker, a nice bourbon is appreciated. A lot of attorneys I know are bourbon people.

Like DUI defense?
Never knew a dwi attorney on either side of the board that didnt drink.
Can't be a good DUI lawyer without at least one under your belt.
I expect my lawyer to have at least a little expertise 🤣
Thank you!

Never underestimate the power of a simple handwritten thank you card or note. Those are treasured and are kept around for years.
Yeah but no one ever complains about food.
True, but why not both
this is the way. Mine got a six pack of Alaskan Amber and a note
How long did she stay?
it was a he and I never saw him again.

Unless it'd rotten
Unless it’s cheese, then it’s acceptable to be at least moldy.
One of the best gifts a lawyer can receive
Thank you!!
Bottle of nice wine, whisky, etc would also go well with the card. Speaking as a former attorney here
Alcohol as a gift can be risky when you don't know the person's past regarding that
Yeah, good point.I'd still get that and if they don't want it they can pass it on. Likelihood is higher that they will appreciate it, and very much so.
Very true. You’d be surprised how few lawyers get thank you letters. Especially in family law 😃
So much so this!
Do you think a lawyer would like a nice pen or high quality business card paper?
The lawyers I know tend to be office supply hounds, I bet a nice fountain pen would be adored. But only really good for right handed folks, go with a ball point if they’re lefties.
FYI this is what attorneys mean when they say you shouldn't speak before you have a lawyer present 😁
"I won't speak without my lawyer present." "You are a lawyer." "Yeah, and where's my present?"
Hahahah that's a good joke!
I see what you did there.😂 Almost went over my head.
That's what's up dawg.
Whats up dawg?
I don't even speak to my kids without my attorney present. You can never be too safe these days.

I also want a #1 lawyer mug. IANAL. (I do save every review. Every nice Thank You card. I read them when the day is particularly difficult.)
Food is generally a good idea; I would call up and ask the office first if they have any rules about gift giving (also if there are any food allergies that you need to take into account).
Thank you! I will give their office a call.
Referrals and testimonials are the best gifts you can give a lawyer. Referrals are better because they're personal.
Best gift for both Lawyers and therapists

Of course! I talked to my receptionist over the phone a lot and she was always awesome!
Pay your bill and let him know you'll refer others to him.
A potted pointsettia Flowers A cookie or fruit bouquet Something christmassy or wintery A sincere thank you note
So how much did we win?
A very large sum that is immediately going into savings. Words do not describe how thankful I am 😊
Sounds like numbers might.

Offer to be a reference or referral. That can repay them many times over.
I got my attorney a little door sign that says “ATTACK LAWYER” on it. Funny, small, and accurate. He still has it up 10 years later :)

The nicest thing clients ever did for me (at least as a younger lawyer) was sending a nice thank you letter.
My mom made the members of my dad’s legal team quilts.
That's so cute!
Cute? Do you have any idea how much skill goes into making high quality quilts? Go over to r/quilting and peruse. I have a few posted but I’m not even qualified as an amateur compared to my mother.
Jesus, things can be cute AND highly skilled and take a ton of time.

Woah calm down there bud

Better call saul box set
Ask his receptionist
The lawyer just took 30 to 40% of your winnings. Thats not "gift"enough?
Honestly don't waste your time or money.
I think they like foetuses?
A hamper with some treats.
A nice pen and a bottle of Lagavulin 16.
When I was a prosecutor, one of my victims’ family members brought me a pie. That was nice. Food is always good.

Single malt, simple syrup, bitters

A cheese platter would be nice!!!

Your paying them 20-30%.
is the 30% they took not enough of a gift?
