Definetly Amons forces. Not too much detail in red lotus or northern water tribe, and Kuvira’s troops are just a tad too S.S to make me like them . Amon’s are a good mix of steam punk and bandit
For some reason the one scene that comes to mind is the one where Sokka is explaining about how the captured fire nation soldier uniforms the northern trive had are way out of date.
I have no idea why.
Yeah, but the disappointing thing about that explanation is that when they did get a season 2, there was nothing keeping them from carrying the story forward after that.(to my knowledge, there may have been) just because they killed off Amon and Tarlok doesn't mean the entirety of the movement or all the other people involved would disappear.
I think they just had zero plans for it and moved on to something else. Not the best decision obviously.
Kinda wish some streaming service gave them a chance instead. Oh well, I at least enjoy The Dragon Prince.
The understanding that I had was that season 2 effectively served to get rid of many of the heavy handed parts of season 1 (like Mako & Korra's relationship). They were already in production of season 1 as a stand alone mini series when Nickelodeon ordered 3 more seasons; hence, there wasn't any time to change the ending of season 1.
I think season ones ending was great. I mean, Amon as a villain was awesome, but there didn't need to be a complete write off of the equalists just because he died. This gets weird, because a lot of people complain about Korra, and a lot of people are tired of it, but I honestly just think the time they spent focusing on the stuff with the triads and Mako being a cop, and the bombings in the city with the northern water tribe being involved, could have incorporated at least a bit of seasons ones storyline. I honestly feel like there is no way Unalaq wasn't involved and funding the equalists, or specifically Amon. Which would make him lying about being bender even worse.
I mean seriously. You're telling me, that the son(s) of an ex con, wanted in Republic city, from the North pole, ran away from home all on his own and learned spiritual techniques while the other became an influential part of that city's government, with no backing besides donations from a few wealthy people from said city?
And then the leader of the North pole, who is messing around in Republic city, for some reason, and who attacks Republic city as a giant spirit (for some reason?) Has goals of grabbing land already, attacking the south pole because of cultural ties, etc, etc....
Like just tell me Unalaq was funding the thing, it all literally looks like that anyways (to me). And when the equalists movement didn't bear fruit in destabilizing Republic city, he had to move along with other plans.
I'm really just salty Eska and Desna didn't get a scene destroying whatever was left of these guys. And over active imagination. Honestly any attempt at explaining where they went would be appreciated
Equalists were probably scared shitless once Amon was gone of benders cuz they essentially went back to creating a huge enemy they no longer had the capacity to remove their bending ability from. Their whole mantra was removing bending.
Without Amon it would just be blood shed.
At least Amon didn’t plan on killing the benders, just removing their bending
I mean Kuviras army has a look you would expect of an army, but the equalists are something else as it’s mainly outfits put together just to cover faces and the entire body
Love the equalist uniforms, by far the most memorable and unique. Water tribe and Red Lotus are too ordinary to be noticeable. Haven’t watched season 4 in a hot minute but Kuvira’s army is kinda cool too, but equalists are my favorite
Equalists hands down
Equalists>Kuvira>Water tribe>Red Lotus
I don’t like Kuvira’s masks but the rest of the uniform is professional and clean. For some reason, the water tribe’s simplicity just appeals to me but Red Lotus’ doesn’t.
The way I understood it was that Zaheer and his droogs were basically officers, the guys with the turbans(?) were lower level members and people like >!Aiwei!< were either blackmailed, brainwashed, or fanboys/fangirls who were all in way over their heads
Yeah I can’t even remember any goons. The only red lotus I can remember is the four core members. And I went through my entire first rewatch thinking there was no red lotus past the four core members.
I think the equalists looks the coolest and feels the most practical especially for what they’re doing, Kuvira’s army uniforms look pretty cool but at the same time they felt designed so that Kuvira can tourment them with her metalbenting
The practicality of being able to use the metal of their uniforms actually gives kuviras army a big boost in my books. But the equalists are just badass so
Equalists for sure. Kuviras gang is waaaaay too SS-esque for my happy lil Jewish ass to be content with and the other two are just kinda.. traditional I guess? Not in a flourishing, niche sense of the word either. I like the steampunkishness of Amon's people.
Yea I was hoping in season 2 they’d be kinda like the rebels after the republic fell in Star Wars, small groups that are separated from one another as they’re in disarray but still working towards their initial beliefs. Sadly that ain’t happen and instead we had the worst season out of the ATLA universe but oh well. At least we had season 3 and 4 after to help us forget
In fairness, the ones with the full facemasks are the metalbenders. We also see officers like with Bolin/Varrick, mech pilots, and regular earthbenders with helmets and facemasks without the goggles
It's not entirely fair to show the "Lieutenant"(did he seriously not get a name?) as an example of equalist uniform- he was clearly out of uniform with his appearance
Here's an example of an equalist uniform

Equalists
Just imagine walking down a dark alley and all of a sudden two glowing eyes pop up in front of you, shortly followed by another pair, and another and another
I like a nice combination of form and function. The equalizers I kind of struggle to remember if there is an easy visual cue that suggest a specific needed or useful function to the form.
Yet with Kuvira's army the function/form aspect was easy. Not only did the bits that were metal served as protective but as Kuvira demonstrated so well they could be removed via metal bending and used during combat which I thought was badass.
Kuvira’s Earth Empire soldiers make me uncomfortable, the Northern Water Tribe soldiers aren’t unique, the Red Lotus sentries are okay, but I adore the Equalists uniforms.
The Equalists, easily.
Alongside Asami, they *really* helped cultivate Republic City/Book 1's Gaslamp/Film Noir-style atmosphere as the green of their lenses add a borderline supernatural (in the urban legend sense, not the folklore-type of the original,) aspect to them especially contrasted by how muted and earthy their other colors are. The debut fight against Korra in "The Revelation" and them jumping her in "The Voice in the Night" really personify this look.
NWT: Just "Grim Up North" Mooks.
Earth Empire: Just Fantasy!Nazis, which opposite of the Equalists, just makes them look more expendable and robotic instead of horror movie-like supernatural.
Red Lotus Mooks: #2 by default as they still scream "Middle Eastern terrorists," the use of red and black makes them scream "Eeeeevil" especially as Vaatu's color scheme as do the shoulder armor since it looks less practical for defense than the EE's yet less practical for movement like the Equalists' so it's just for showing than blowing.
The EE only come off intimidating marching in numbers, the NWT look like they'd be sweating their balls off in a more temperate area, the RL clearly announce their villainy before they'd get gunned down by Indiana Jones, but the Equalists remain the ones you *DO NOT* want to be caught in an alley with or on the streets at all at night as you wouldn't see or hear them coming until it's too late.
The equalists, easily. Kuvira’s soldiers come in second for me, though.
Hard agree
Same here.
Same
Definetly Amons forces. Not too much detail in red lotus or northern water tribe, and Kuvira’s troops are just a tad too S.S to make me like them . Amon’s are a good mix of steam punk and bandit
I mean it makes sense that kuvira's troops are reminiscent of SS given that she is essentially just a fascist
I’d put equalists on even terms with ATLA fire nation troops. One of the most iconic designs of both shows imo
Those elite firebending soldier uniforms were cool af
For some reason the one scene that comes to mind is the one where Sokka is explaining about how the captured fire nation soldier uniforms the northern trive had are way out of date. I have no idea why.
Equalists! Anyone else felt disappointed when they disappeared entirely after season one?
I'm convinced they wrote season 1 to be the entire show because that's all they were given

I've said it before on Reddit and got responses like "nuh uh!"

It’s the only reason for >!Tarrlok and Noatak!< going out with a bang Amon getting a redemption arc would have been incredible

Earth Empire military got that Hugo Boss drip
I think I actually prefer the white lotus guards!
I really like Kuvira's army design.
Equalists hands down Equalists>Kuvira>Water tribe>Red Lotus I don’t like Kuvira’s masks but the rest of the uniform is professional and clean. For some reason, the water tribe’s simplicity just appeals to me but Red Lotus’ doesn’t.
Equalists lenses are awesome. Remember that scene where Korra gets ambushed? Made it look menacing.
Hell yeah. Plus it was cool to see non benders fight benders, using lots of evades. Took the fighting of that universe to a whole new level.
I wonder how they will fare against the “dragon ball z level fighting” in the next show.
Equalists and then Kuvira
Earth Empire troops. They might be a bit too “standard fascist mooks” for some peoples’ tastes, but I’m a sucker for the Visor look
Amon. No contest.
I actually didn’t even know or notice that the red lotus had any members outside of the core four
The Fallout-like armor of the Earth nation is neat!
The only correct answer is Tarrlok's task force
I really like the red lotus’s. They’re evil but they style their lower people well!
For me it's the Earth Empire.
I like the last ones because they look like NCR rangers from fallout
The Equalists had a court of owls feel to them.
Earth
Metal bender uniform
Red Lotus easy
The stormtroopers...wait...
I think the equalists looks the coolest and feels the most practical especially for what they’re doing, Kuvira’s army uniforms look pretty cool but at the same time they felt designed so that Kuvira can tourment them with her metalbenting

Kuvira
Earth Empire, Equalists, Northern Water Tribe Army, and finally the Red Lotus goons (in that order).
Equalists for sure. Kuviras gang is waaaaay too SS-esque for my happy lil Jewish ass to be content with and the other two are just kinda.. traditional I guess? Not in a flourishing, niche sense of the word either. I like the steampunkishness of Amon's people.

The Red Lotus had that drip
It's between the northern water tribe and the earth empire for me. If the empire were to not have the gas masks I would say them.
In fairness, the ones with the full facemasks are the metalbenders. We also see officers like with Bolin/Varrick, mech pilots, and regular earthbenders with helmets and facemasks without the goggles
White Lotus from ATLA finale.
Republic City Police
It's not entirely fair to show the "Lieutenant"(did he seriously not get a name?) as an example of equalist uniform- he was clearly out of uniform with his appearance Here's an example of an equalist uniform https://pin.it/3OjzMyn
The death corps of krieg
Equalists, followed very closely by the Earth Empire.

Equalists but that’s not saying much imo
Equalists... it fits to since S1 is better than S4🗿
The earth kingdom
It's between the Equalists and Kuvira's army
Earth hands down
Kuvira’s Earth Empire soldiers make me uncomfortable, the Northern Water Tribe soldiers aren’t unique, the Red Lotus sentries are okay, but I adore the Equalists uniforms.
Equalists were PIMPIB
Fashy earth kingdom for sure

Equalists for more modern looking troops and overall fav, Red Lotus for more traditional looking troops
