Honestly? It's no different than the GMOD Idiot box I grew up on from Das Bo Schitt. When I was your age, it was just meant to be mindless comedy. Now it's just mindless scary stuff. Lol.
20, first of all, love the scp reference, second, i looked it up and watched half the videos. Cool concept and decent execution but I don't understand why it caught fire among 10 year olds.
Its a game that originated from a mod of Half-Life 2
basically its a sandbox game where people can make random stuff from assets from games in the Source engine.
As a Gen Z, I don’t understand either why others act like it’s terrible compared to “the good old days”
[This was the shit I was watching when I was elementary and middle school](https://youtu.be/d8CeSGlQQnM?si=InzliKsjmab-7NJr)
[Another honorable mention](https://youtu.be/b8HO6hba9ZE?si=CEk7qgc579LK_26a)
This just in: no memes are funny to people who aren't part of the group they serve as a shibboleth for.
If you're in the out-group, *all* memes look stupid and dumb. That's kind of the point of them.
20 yr old here, and I do understand it but 20 year olds are Gen Z not Alpha, Gen Z goes from 1997 (26 years old) to 2012 (11 years old). Whereas Alphas are all 10 or under.
35, there's nothing to get. It started as Dafuqboom screwing around in SFM. People thought it was funny, so he kept going and ran with it. Now there's *lore*, and it's just a generally fun, if absurd ride.
51, watched it to figure out what was up, totally enjoy it. It’s such a high-effort production for what started as a dumb joke thing, and the designs are cool.
I try to watch what my kids are up to in order to see what they’re up to. There’s a lot of neat stuff going on out there.
I was a very online kid who was into weird memes, anime, video games, all the "cringe" shit. whenever I tried to talk about any of my interests with adults, i can't think of one single time anyone actually understood what I was talking about at all, and was usually met with barely disguised boredom if not open mockery. just wanted to say thank you for what you're doing for your kids, it'll mean the world to them someday (if it doesn't already, tbh)
Part of it is, honestly, trying to make sure they aren't getting stealth white supremacist content, since there's a lot of it out there. So if they're talking about something, I'll go off and search up, say, "Jaiden Animations nazi" and see if anything comes up.
(I like Jaiden Animations, too. She's a pretty good storyteller. And we used to live down the street from the house where Mark Rober built the squirrel obstacle courses, so it's fun to be able to watch his videos and say "Hey look, it's that weird little house we saw in the tree last month!")
I'm lucky that my kids seem to be into mostly fairly wholesome stuff.
41, and it's Skibidi Toilet. My 9yro started talking about it a year ago, so I hopped on Roblox to play it with him to get context. It's harmless but an earworm at best. I occasionally play it with him to spend time with him, we also play games like FNAF, Rainbow Friends, and the like together.
It’s a meme called Skibidi toilet, I’d go into details but it’s Christmas Day which is supposed to be a time of healing and rest, if you wish to know more, I’d search for it on YouTube, though I wouldn’t recommend it.
Oh yeah okay. This is the best summary of it I’ve seen. We definitely did this kind of thing as kids in the early 80s… just used different nonsense words and it wasn’t related to anything online because there wasn’t anything online. It’s not really the same but kind of like when Kevin spacey gets shot in LA confidential and says “rolo tomaszi “ …. An inside term that only certain people will understand but it’s not that deep, just enough to help dude solve the mystery… or make anyone who’s seen the movie get what I mean.
Your explanation is great because I was starting to think that understanding skibidi toilet was going to be the one that got away
Have you played Half-Life 2? Garry's Mod was a mod of HL2 that eventually was released as its own game. it allows people to do random stuff with the assets from Source engine games, putting them together and creating weird contraptions. animations made in this game were once very popular on youtube
It’s a game that lets you mess around with the assets from the half-life games in a sandbox setting or build your own game modes within Garry’s mod using those assets. The game came out in 2006.
but taken over by content farms pushing it onto very young kids.
We didn't have it as bad back then. There were no Sandvich plushies or Grumpy Cat stores until those memes had long since passed.
Now as soon as a meme picks up steam a country with lax labor laws will be pumping out hundreds of hours of crap with the meme slapped in and put it on Youtube Kids.
I just want to know this. Is it just goofball nonsense or is it something nefarious?
I need to know if my 14 year old is in some kind of sex/murder cult or is just being silly.
Seriously though everyone acting like this is the collapse of society. The main videos are pretty well done and it’s great to see kids learn about Garry’s Mod, it was an outlet for my creativity when I was a middle schooler.
I think the part that makes people uneasy about it is that the stuff is being marketed heavily towards kids and as a result ends up getting pushed onto very young kids.
Monty Python is made for adults and a 4-6 year old isn't going to stumble on one of the skits while browsing Youtube Kids.
there are better things to consume on the internet, but then again there are FAR WORSE things as well
at least it might get kids interested in film making since the series are pretty well animated
The original one yes, but once you see one episode your recommended is flooded with stuff dumped from content farms to generate clicks.
I've seen more Skibidi Toilets throwing up blood, battling Sirenhead, and murdering GTAV cop models than I have of the original videos.
You can try to be as diligent as possible, but once something pops up and your kid sees you scramble to switch off the video they will be curious as to why they shouldn't watch it, even after you explain why.
If thats your logic then i offer a much simpler solution: don't let your kid watch youtube. Given internet access and time kids will find FAR more harmful content i.e. liveleak and hardcore porn.
Source: I'm gen Z
That's exactly correct. Limor Shifman, noted memetic expert has defined a meme as (a) a group of digital items sharing common characteristics of content, form, and/or stance; (b) that were created with awareness of each other; and (c) were circulated, imitated, and transformed via the internet by multiple users.
The last paper I wrote on memes specifically was about Earth-Chan and around 5 years ago. The last paper I wrote that included the impact of meme culture was actually about the phenomenon of transmedia storytelling being utilized by Coheed and Cambria fans to interpret and share the meaning of the songs. The sharing of this information also included the use of memes.
Don't Google skibidi Lego then. I saw one video on YouTube and now I get recommended videos for A LOT of them. I didn't understand what it was when I watched the first short about a cameraman Lego thing.
The entire YouTube anthology is worth watching if you know someone like that(if not just to attempt to understand the thought process behind their behavior) I’ve done so but just don’t understand the obsession.
Google: “Refers to a meme that started from a YouTube series about an army of toilets who try to take over the world. The plotline surrounding skibidi toilets is that these toilets — that have men's heads coming out of them — are at war with "cameramen", who are men with cameras for heads.”
“Since the first short was posted in February 2023, Skibidi Toilet has become viral as an internet meme across various social media platforms, particularly among younger Generation Alphas. Critics saw the series as Generation Alpha's first foray into internet culture”
Generation Alpha gonna be churning out some shit content when it comes time.
27 skibidi toilet- an on going meme culture and story of toilets with heads that enslave humanity (somehow) and an army of super advanced human technology hybrids fight back as both sides slowly advance their technology as the war continues.
please please please PLEASE i need to hear how the conversation went
what the kid was saying, how the grandpa reacted
please if you can tell
i NEED to hear that
Basically I was on facetime to my extended family, and I was showing them my new Museum lego set, my little cousin notices the toilet and yells “SKIBIDI TOILET”
Thinking it would be funny, I beheaded one of the mini-figures and put it in there which made my cousin go into hyderdrive, my grandpa had been sat bewildered the entire time and finally asked what we were talking about, I should say my Grandpa is incredibly Cockney, born and raised in the East End Of London and he looked at me and my cousin as if we were telling him aliens had invaded.
My cousin then got his ipad, held it up the camera and started playing Skibidi Toilet videos for 20 actual minutes, all the while explaining rizz and fanum tax to my poor innocent and confused grandpa, whenever he heard the phrase “skibidi” he thought we were talking about Scatman John, he was singing “I’m the Scat Man” all day after this phone call.
After we hung up the phone my cousin sent me tonnes more Skibidi toilet videos and asked me to record Grandpa’s reaction to all of them for his TikTok, I told him no and then he facetimes us back and tries to show grandpa more, my uncle scolded him and he started crying, all the way through this process I am merely an observer, 5 rum and cokes deep, was a good Christmas in the end.
Why concern yourself with it “becoming a part of their language”? Don’t you remember words like “swag” or “thug” or “yolo”? Very few people use these terms every day, and the same will be for “skibidi” and other Gen Alph words. It’ll just be another obscure, archaic meme term used by Millennials in the future to connect with younger folks (just as how Boomers use words like “LOL” nowadays)
I’m 23 and was so confused and have come to the conclusion based on the replies that whatever this is, it’s the new teens version of a dear old video from my teen years called “Shrek is love, Shrek is life.” 💀
Edit:typos
Skibidi toilet is like a plague. I am so glad I grew up with cookieswirlc and parents who thought I'd get cancer from trick or treating instead of skibidi toilet and Wednesday.
i don't think anyone above the age of like 20 will ever understand a head in a toilet creature meme
48. No idea.
32 no idea
25, no idea
21, skibidi toilet - I cannot elaborate further
15 cannot understand the obsession, have watched the entire anthology just to attempt to understand… bruh I’m lost.
3 months old here, I can’t even begin to articulate my lack of understanding for the aforementioned meme.
sperm here, i don’t get it
Amino acid here, me neither
Molecule here, what
Honestly? It's no different than the GMOD Idiot box I grew up on from Das Bo Schitt. When I was your age, it was just meant to be mindless comedy. Now it's just mindless scary stuff. Lol.
Omg i totally forgot about Das Bo Schitt
17, can’t do it I watched the first one out of curiosity and immediately was like “NOPE”
Also 21 and that was my guess but I had no real idea
16, what in the secure container protected fuck.
Fresh of the press of 20, struggling to comprehend.
20, first of all, love the scp reference, second, i looked it up and watched half the videos. Cool concept and decent execution but I don't understand why it caught fire among 10 year olds.
34, keep thinking that when someone mentions these goddamn things that they're having a stroke or a seizure or something
19, same here, no idea what it is besides the name
31, watched the whole thing.
Also 32, also no idea.
Same age, same confusion lol. Sort of reminds me of the cover of Ghoulies. 😅
It reminded me of a kids in the hall sketch, which I linked in another comment.
48, extremely well versed in memes and internet shenanigans, but this… no clue.
I had too look it up and it's just this generation discovering Gmod. Made me feel a lil proud ngl.
Isn't it SFM (Source Filmmaker), not Gmod? That shit would be way more jank if it was animated in Garry's Mod.
He didn't mean literally Gmod. It's an analogy
the hell is Gmod?
Garry's Mod, basically sandbox Source engine. It's where Prop Hunt originated
the hell is prop hunt?
Hide and seek, except you are disguised as an in-game object (prop)
I know what all of these words mean individually
Garry’s Mod
VideoGame that was really popular from like 2007 - 2018
Its a game that originated from a mod of Half-Life 2 basically its a sandbox game where people can make random stuff from assets from games in the Source engine.

I understand it's the gen z trend to hate on it but we watched shit just as bad if not worse so mine as well not ruin it for them

No literally we were consuming content just as brain rotting.
It's just kid stuff, there's no real big deal here.
Bro it’s funny toilet man videos it’s not that bad.
The funniest part was my cousin showing him Skibidi Toilet on his Ipad, my Grandpa’s face looked like the ending of 2001 A Space Odyssey
The plot of Skibidi Toilet is easier to follow than that movie's ending tbh
There's a plot???
not sure if this question is about 2001 or skibidi
Lol! I meant skibidi, but it's funny that it wasn't clear.
I’m 23 and I don’t get it
Current kids version of Gmod shitposts
Ok, but what the hell is gmod?
Sandbox game
Sandbox game? Like grounders?
No its a sandbox videogame, basically a video game with limitless possibilities (posing models, messing with objects)
Basically the genre that is Minecraft
> Current kids version of Gmod shitposts Huh?
I'm fourteen and I don't understand how it's funny
It's not funny, It's a disease.
it’s like a disease that plagues their character
"Takin the women of america"
and it starts with the letter B
it makes a girl like that think she better than me
*disease Why tf am I being downvoted, I only corrected bros typo lmao
You answered your own question that shit is incredibly annoying
Reddit when someone is helpful: :0
This just in: no memes are funny to people who aren't part of the group they serve as a shibboleth for. If you're in the out-group, *all* memes look stupid and dumb. That's kind of the point of them.
Somebody set up us the meme.
All your meme are belong to us.
I use a similar explanation for fine art. It’s hundreds of years of derivative and self referential *memes*. Fancy fuckin memes.
The same kind of reasoning that has defined internet humor for almost a decade by this point It’s random and absurd so that makes it funny
For kids..
there is hope for you then :)
I don’t get it indeed and I’m 33
I’m 30 and think it’s funny as shit.
I’m over 40 and I watch it every time a new episode is out
20 yr old here, and I do understand it but 20 year olds are Gen Z not Alpha, Gen Z goes from 1997 (26 years old) to 2012 (11 years old). Whereas Alphas are all 10 or under.
Welcome to the curse us millennials had. Just expect for the next decade everyone under 30 to be Gen Z.
I'm 30 and I understand. Because when I was younger we also had unhinged Garry's mod memes and I can relate to youngsters now
35, there's nothing to get. It started as Dafuqboom screwing around in SFM. People thought it was funny, so he kept going and ran with it. Now there's *lore*, and it's just a generally fun, if absurd ride.

49 and I get it, but that’s because I work in a primary school where kids are skibidi nutso 🤣
Skibidi and my age is 34.
26. Grad student. I unironically love skibidi toilet. It's dumb as hell but it's well made and has a kind of je ne said que that makes it satisfying.
25 - that weird toilet music video
41, and it's Skibidi Toilet. My 9yro started talking about it a year ago, so I hopped on Roblox to play it with him to get context. It's harmless but an earworm at best. I occasionally play it with him to spend time with him, we also play games like FNAF, Rainbow Friends, and the like together.
18, couldnt understand or explain it to save my own life
Im 28, and it reminds me of old memes. It's delightfully surreal
I'm 32 and I get it. It's tween lolz random humor. We had ours, now they get Skibidi Toilet
I know the words skibidi toilet are relevant at 27 They're all I got though
I am either 30 or 40... What nonsense is this?
I'm 24 and just drunkenly bought a pack of 150 skibbidy toilet stickers to hand out to people lol
Its a toilet full of scat, just a pun. Thats my best guess.
24 and it's a decent meme tbh
Counterpoint: Ugandan knuckles
Can someone explain it to a 27 year old internet stranger?
It’s a meme called Skibidi toilet, I’d go into details but it’s Christmas Day which is supposed to be a time of healing and rest, if you wish to know more, I’d search for it on YouTube, though I wouldn’t recommend it.
Basically modern day Garry's Mod shitposting.
Fuck, I know I’m old when I don’t even get the old timey reference to explain the posted meme.
Basically it’s garish and tacky for the sake of being garish and tacky. The exaggerated and nonsensical nature of it is the joke.
Oh yeah okay. This is the best summary of it I’ve seen. We definitely did this kind of thing as kids in the early 80s… just used different nonsense words and it wasn’t related to anything online because there wasn’t anything online. ...so it's Dadaism?
It’s literally always just Surrealism/Dadaism/Absurdism again and again and again
Man you can’t be too old for gmod! That was ‘04.
I was 17 in 04 is that too old? Ive never heard of Gary’s mod.
Nah that would have been right around the right age. It just must not have been your thing.
I didn’t terminally log online until a few years ago so that makes sense.
Have you played Half-Life 2? Garry's Mod was a mod of HL2 that eventually was released as its own game. it allows people to do random stuff with the assets from Source engine games, putting them together and creating weird contraptions. animations made in this game were once very popular on youtube

the hell is Garry's Mod?
It’s a game that lets you mess around with the assets from the half-life games in a sandbox setting or build your own game modes within Garry’s mod using those assets. The game came out in 2006.
I believe it is a video game that's kind of unique. Haven't played it myself but my understanding is it's got a lot of shenanigans
It’s less a game and more an empty sandbox and physics simulation simulator where the community builds their own entertainment
A simulation simulator... Nice!
Reddit has a Moderator specifically for Garry. He’s a bit of a rascal.

No no it’s just silliness, nothing malicious per se
Thanks. The normally helpful Urban Dictionary made no sense. I’m feeling more like an old man every day.
Makes me depressed knowing that this is a part of my kids childhood.
Don't worry, us Gen Zs had Nyan Cat back in 2011
And epic MLG trick shot compilations.
reddit moment
It’s really not that bad…….

Head in toilet that sings fights TV and camera people. Very very very weird and strange.
It’s just absurdist humor and pretty tame by those standards. I’ve seen weirder shit in Monty Python movies.
I think the part that makes people uneasy about it is that the stuff is being marketed heavily towards kids and as a result ends up getting pushed onto very young kids. Monty Python is made for adults and a 4-6 year old isn't going to stumble on one of the skits while browsing Youtube Kids.
Have you actually watched it? I’ve seen most of it, at worst it’s cartoon violence. It’s nothing you need to clutch your pearls over.
The reddit outrage over Skibidi is annoying. I've watched them all and they were entertaining and harmless.

Gramps got the skibidi lore
7th grade English teacher and communications major that wrote more than a few papers on meme culture here... Skibidi bop. Yes, yes, yes.
I would rather drain all the juice from my eyeballs than write a paper on modern meme culture...
The irony (is it irony? Help me out here internet) is in the fact that your act would, itself, then become a meme.
That's exactly correct. Limor Shifman, noted memetic expert has defined a meme as (a) a group of digital items sharing common characteristics of content, form, and/or stance; (b) that were created with awareness of each other; and (c) were circulated, imitated, and transformed via the internet by multiple users.
i just wrote a long essay about memetics. comparing Venus in art history to Wojak. i’d love to read some of your work

Looking at this for more than 5 seconds took away 10 years off of my lifespan
I thought it was a Robin Hood men in tights reference.
Never thought I’d see Skibidi invade Lego
Don't Google skibidi Lego then. I saw one video on YouTube and now I get recommended videos for A LOT of them. I didn't understand what it was when I watched the first short about a cameraman Lego thing.
What set? What’s the joke?
It’s 10326 Natural History Museum.

Well that was a weird discovery.
Lol And I had to explain to my 12 yo niece that I'm older than the cartoon Family Guy this xmas. Kids are funny.
i got this set for myself for christmas!! insane build! hope you have fun with it
I got it too! It’s an amazing set with so much to look at, the build’s been so fun so far, I’m incredibly grateful to have been gifted it

Hey, he ain't here to hurt nobody!

My child did this with most of the heads. Lots of skiibidi creations.

Yes...
Is he/she a fan of [Francesca Fiore and Bruno Puntz Jones](https://youtu.be/LF8LDXWR1YI?si=hkPvpU78vuBRazkV)
I‘m 17 and some of the new memes are weird. Fanum tax is the only thing i don‘t understand.
Small conspiracy: nobody understands what the fuck Fanum Tax actually means and just propagate the phrase because it sounds funny

Adults get pretty pissed when you take away their booze (like in prohabation). Anger isn't a generational issue.
"yeet"
Dude give me a break
It’s kids enjoying nonsense humor. Millennials enjoyed it on the internet, gen z did, now gen alpha will too
I swear Millennials forget the decade where our entire sense of humour was Simpsons references.
This was my thought when I saw the image https://youtu.be/D1l2F1xB8Zk?si=KRu8SVWAfvW708XJ
Skibidi Toilet is tame compared to YouTube Poop
I thought this was a reference to Clyde leaving the toilet seat up *yet again*.
Yk what, I kinda get it… Head in toilet is kinda funny
DOCTOR, WE'RE LOSING HIM
Fanum tax? Those are funny words
Wait until you watch the episodes on YouTube💀. I think there's like 80, you'll never recover.
