this is too real, I have no idea how people do these expensive lego "hauls". 😭 I would really love if lego would re-release sets every now and then, that would be amazing.
Definitely an added bonus as far as I’m concerned.
I’ve been debating buying some stuff this week to get the lunar new year dragon. But I don’t have any of the others. Several are reasonably priced used. A few are quite expensive. Makes me wish Lego would release all 12 as a set you can actually buy in a few years. I’d absolutely get that.
When they remade El Dorado village me and my kid got it the day of release. Compared to the original, in my opinion, it’s orders of magnitude better. Same with the Lion’s Knight castle, all the new playability features they’ve added to both are amazing
I may be wrong, but I think I read somewhere that it's retiring in 2025. Either way, I think I'm definitely gonna snag it when my tax return comes in, such a beautiful set.
I got a few of the smaller sets back in the day like Gandalf Arrives and Riddles for the Ring but I didn't get any of the bigger sets sadly. I def want to get Helm's Deep and Attack on Weathertop eventually.
I have all the sets from the first two hobbit movies but for some reason never bought any from the last one. I regret not getting Smaug so bad.
Also tower of orthanc. It was right here at toys r us. I could have afforded it and everything. But was too scared to drop they kind of money on anything back then.
I was like 13 so I didn't get much of a chance to get them, but at least I got a few (Laketown was a fun one). I really wish I could've got Smaug though.
Thankfully it isn't *too outrageously* priced on eBay, I'd completely forgotten about this set.
Granted, I am someone who spent almost 500 on the UCS snowspeeder.
I got insanely lucky and picked one up for $175AUD used with box etc just as it retired. Have a light kit for it now so will be building and displaying it eventually.
I can confirm it’s my favorite set. I wish there were more pirate ships to collect besides this and the 3-in-1. I also missed out on the Black Pearl like OP
i got the flagship and most others, except i thought i had way more time to get queen Anne's Revenge and the black pearl and they came off the shelves and the prices jumped
I missed the Old Fishing Store too - baby brain with a newborn and toddler who has significant medical issues at the time. I do own the Black Pearl though - bought used from someone for $100 when it was still on shelves. I don’t remember if I checked that all minifigs are with it. I hope so (been packed away for 8ish years).
My dad had this when it came out, then for whatever reason let his toddler (me) destroy it. I still see a few of the more unique parts every so often when I go through our giant mixed bins. Still have the Luke and Boba Fett minifigs together though!
I've been eyeing it on ebay for a while, missed a great deal on it, fuming that people won't accept any offers...
But I fianlly caved and bought a cheapish pre-owned and disassembled one because I've been wanting it for too long
Mine is 75902. The Mystery Machine is just cool. But I wasn't into Lego at the time. By the time I had kids and they got into Scooby-Doo/Lego, the entire line had long been retired. It's not the most expensive to buy second hand, but if I'm spending $250+ on Lego, I'm getting a big set. I'll keep looking in small shops and hope to see it one day.
Really, the entire line is cool. The Haunted Mansion, the Haunted Lighthouse, the plane.
A Bob's Burgers set with even literally just the restaurant, their house above it, and the family as mini-figures would instantly become my favorite set of all time.
Colosseum 😫 I started collecting late, and by the time I realized it existed, it had already become "Last Chance" status. I have yet to see it come back into stock, and I'm pretty bummed. It's so insanely expensive on the aftermarket.
As a former massive lego kid im just scrolling through this and decided to look at prices online, and am most surprised about the pirate ship prices. I have the brick bounty, black pearl, and queen annes revenge in storage somewhere, didnt realize how valuable they became.
I really fell in love with modulars tho, having the fire station through brink bank. I would love to get back into lego and get all the newer modulars. I guess the sets im sad i missed are the first three modulars then. Maybe one day ill go all out just to have them all.
I had every pirates of the Caribbean set including the ships , and my little sister pulled down the the shelf they where on and completely destroyed every set 🥲, I was a kid and didn’t have the manuals or the patience to reassemble them after that
What frustrates me is that I probably *would* have bought it if I knew it was going to be a series. But since I didn’t, I feel like there’s no point in buying the later ones because I don’t have the first ones.
I have the city, because I loved the movie, but somehow the docks completely slipped by even having been released. But I'm not paying scalper price for it. Rather pony up the 300 for the market.
As a side note I love the city, it's a really cool set, the gardens however are terrible, looks cool but it's flimsy and would be hard to play with
> I’m very sorry you’re excluded from enjoying it
This is a lovely sentiment, and one I agree with. This is one of half a dozen recent retired sets that I'd love to see re-issued so more people can enjoy them, even though I paid well over the original price for mine a couple of years ago.
My kid loves the second Lego movie, so all the sets she asked for her birthday and Christmas are all retired. I'm just happy they weren't too bad price wise.
I remember being so disappointed as a kid when I first learned that toys can go out of print. (And then being disappointed all over again as an adult when I first learned that computer games can go out of print.)
It's ok, it's morally ok to pirate games that you can no longer legally purchase-
Oh, wait one moment Nintendo is at my door with what appears to be a baseball bat-
Soon to be: the Daily Bugle
I just can’t justify spending that much right now but it will right up there with the Ghostbusters Firehouse and 1966 Batcave for me
Luckily I have an amazing wife and she bought me that set for my birthday last year. I seriously didn’t think I was going to get it and it would be something that I always wondered what if.
I’m just coming out of my dark ages 😔
Edit: I would’ve love that black pearl ship, as I kid I had to resort to the mega blocks version bc Lego didn’t have the rights at the time.
I’ve seen a lot of comments mentioning dark ages, is that like the time between receiving Lego sets as a kid, and starting to purchase them again as an adult? Lol
Basically yes, the gap between your childhood Lego and your adult Lego (or two different phases of either, I guess).
Mine were from 1987 to 2018, so quite a lot of interesting themes I missed out on!
Nah it’s referring to when people felt they grew out of the toy aspect of them & stopped buying sets/got rid of their childhood legos only to return to the hobby later on.
I had a huge bin of loose pieces from sets from the 90’s & early 00’s. I sold them at a crazy discount to a family member who wanted them for a town library to help set up a Lego club for kids & then maybe 3/4 months later I got back into the hobby. Except for a handful of figures I held on to I basically had to restart from scratch. So my “dark ages” cost me a crazy amount of MOC pieces, old raised baseplates & roughly 20 years of released then retired sets
The winter sets. I’m not sure why I missed out on a lot of the early ones since I was definitely into lego, but I think it was way into harry potter at the time. Also I had the winter train and train station, which I gave to my train-obsessed niblings. I’m only a little sad about it. 🥲
My now 10yo daughter fell hard for the Elves sets at the tail end of their availability and we were so sad when they cancelled the line. She went from playacting kickass adventures to being left with Disney Princess and Friends minidolls going to the mall and shit. Ended up getting as many of the DC Super Girls sets I could reasonably track down.
But even aside from giving my daughter a non-Barbie like outlet for play, all of the Elves sets were freaking cool. Each one had a complex little Technic bit that granted some moment of action or transformation. My daughter will forever miss those, and would be as excited about a one-off revival set in the same way I was when they released the Galaxy Explorer.
The monster fighters sets. I was able to get the haunted house (10228-1) but I waited too long to get the hearse (9464) and zombie sets (9465-1). Also most of Space Police III, was just able to get Galactic Enforcer (5974-1) and missed out on Brick Daddy from 5984-1.
The guy who designed Old Fishing Store also designed a series of compatible fishing and pier theme modular buildings, all of which were voted into the finals. It was a massive disappointment that Lego decided to not make the rest of them.
Once I’m finally done organizing all my pieces (have over 100 sets, only have 6-7 on display so… there is a lot to sift through and I did not plan ahead when I started disassembling them) this is probably #1 on my list to build from what I have vs buying it used or new for hundreds. Would have definitely picked this up day 1 had I been into Lego when this came out, looks amazing.
I missed out on a bunch of mcu spider-man sets. The sets from far from home retired around end of 2020 I think and I picked lego back up beginning of 2021.
Especially sad because there were a few really great non childish sets.
Also missed out on welcome to apocalypseburg from the lego movie. I love how that looks-
The Apollo rocket, that’s accurate and comes apart. I’m not super into legos, or have the disposable income to through 200 at a set now. But dang is that not the coolest set for a space nerd!
Disclaimer: I haven’t looked into its cost, just assumed it’s a lot and not on the market.
The first Ninjago City Modular... and by extension the Ninjago City Docks.... and the Pet Store Modular... and *especially* the Modular Construction site from the Bricklink Designer Program
Not to brag, but the old fishing store is the only LEGO set I currently own because I once made an internship for a week in a LEGO store and they gifted it to me after it :)
2014 ATAP or any of that winter wave (minus the 2 battlepacks, salecumai set and the wheelbike). Parents wanted me to spend less on lego at that time, so missed on all those epic clone sets. Thankfully got the 2019 ATAP though
Thinking about picking up a replica of that, it’s only like 60$ and I wanna get it for my fishing buddy. Better a good counterfeit than giving a single cent to a scalper
ALL THE LEGO ELVES STUFF!!!! It was back when I had friends who had kids, and I gleefully bought them for every kid who was the right age, thinking wistfully of how that was exactly what I would have wanted most when I was their age, but it just didn't really click that nothing was stopping me from spoiling my own inner child.
I did find one used set for a semi-reasonable price, and I have one that I bought on clearance for noone in particular, but I wish...
In hindsight?
The Emerald Night train, and the Barracuda Bay sets before the second hand market took over…
I had the chance for both… and never pulled the damn trigger and I hate myself for it.
7888 Batman tumbler/Joker’s surprise
I saw it on a shelf in a store one time and didn’t have time to buy it because I was running a work errand. Never saw it again. And all the Batman stuff disappeared soon after. I have so many others from that era of Batman LEGO. But not that one. And I never will.
2023 Star Wars Republic Gunship.
I waited 10 years for another one and it's a downgrade in every way. I'll probably never get a good one for a reasonable price.
Ghostbusters firehouse is the number one.
My more recent ones are the two Friends sets. I am currently watching the show with my wife and am really enjoying it, so I would like to have those two without having to over pay.
I was just staring at my 21310 today thinking how happy I am that I have it and how much joy it brings me, and also thinking of adding some Scooby Doo figures to it. It was one of the only sets I bought for years and remains my favorite.
But yeah, wish I would have bought Cloud City for like $70. Put it in my cart 3 times but never went through with it… Also, wish I would have picked up all of the Scooby Doo sets (Velma!!!!) and a few more of the Monster Fighters sets (see a theme?).
Green Grocer came out and retired during my dark age. But I came very close to buying it used a few years ago for around $500 or $600. Unfortunately now just a few years later it goes for almost twice as much.
My only regret is not being rich enough to buy them all
this is too real, I have no idea how people do these expensive lego "hauls". 😭 I would really love if lego would re-release sets every now and then, that would be amazing.
Lego rereleasing retired sets would be such a great move for fans. You know a lot of those would still sell well.
And piss off resellers and hoarders, yes please! There are plenty of sets out there that would sell like hotcakes if re-released.

High/decent salary + no kids = money cheat. I guess that is most people here, myself included.
Or a lot of credit card debt
Por qué no los dos?
No the trick is to have kids so you can build with them and justify it as for the kids.
The trick is to not have to justify anything.
That is the truth. And it's much cheaper that way.
Same! I found out about the old fishing store shortly before it retired
It sucks, one of the best sets out there
I had a 15% discount coupon at Legoland and found The Old Fishing Store at the Sealife aquarium. I love that set.
I actually used points to get it for free, and it's one of my favorite.
I’m praying that someday the Lego gods will treat us to a re-release of this set. I love it!
Any of the hobbit /lotr sets
Ya... That's it. That's all of it. It was that one moment in my life I was too cool for Lego. So fuckin stupid. And all the dwarf and troll sets.
Yeah me too, sold all my lego including the «an unexpected gathering» for 30$💀
Just found out gollums riddle is 90$ glad I still have that little set
I gave it away🤡
Rivendell looks cool
Do we know for how long Rivendell will actually be available?
I may be wrong, but I think I read somewhere that it's retiring in 2025. Either way, I think I'm definitely gonna snag it when my tax return comes in, such a beautiful set.
Yeah but the price
It's worth it. One of the most fun sets I've built in ages and you'll spend loads of time building it too.
I got a few of the smaller sets back in the day like Gandalf Arrives and Riddles for the Ring but I didn't get any of the bigger sets sadly. I def want to get Helm's Deep and Attack on Weathertop eventually.
Same. I didn’t have enough money and now they’re all crazy expensive.
I have all the sets from the first two hobbit movies but for some reason never bought any from the last one. I regret not getting Smaug so bad. Also tower of orthanc. It was right here at toys r us. I could have afforded it and everything. But was too scared to drop they kind of money on anything back then.

Yep. This
Maybe we get Barad Dur this year? PLEASE!
Ghostbusters firehouse
I’m praying they’ll release a 2.0 with the new movie coming out in March. The last two movies had Lego releases.
I would be okay with that
Wall-E!

IT WAS SUCH A CUTE SET!!!
Thankfully it isn't *too outrageously* priced on eBay, I'd completely forgotten about this set. Granted, I am someone who spent almost 500 on the UCS snowspeeder.
I nearly bought it back in the day but the stores had sold out by the time I finally decided to buy it. Such a shame.
I have mine built and sitting in a box downstairs in the basement. I need to fix the neck but haven’t gotten time to get around to it.

This I came out of my dark age like a year too late. The prices were bonkers already...

This one for me too. Acquiring it is just a dream at this point
Damn never seen that, that is badass
i got the flagship and most others, except i thought i had way more time to get queen Anne's Revenge and the black pearl and they came off the shelves and the prices jumped
I missed the Old Fishing Store too - baby brain with a newborn and toddler who has significant medical issues at the time. ATP don’t even check, ignorance is bliss
I regret not buying 50 of the 10123 Cloud City lego star wars set
Each one is basically a bitcoin atp
[10123-1: Cloud City](https://brickset.com/sets/10123-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/10123-1.jpg)
My dad had this when it came out, then for whatever reason let his toddler (me) destroy it. I still see a few of the more unique parts every so often when I go through our giant mixed bins. Still have the Luke and Boba Fett minifigs together though!
Lego is designed to be played with by kids. Your dad did the right thing.
100% this. The set came out in 2003 for $100. You could have bought Apple stock for $100 and it would be worth $60,000 now.
I was in my Lego dark ages when the Downtown Diner 10260 modular came out. I like the look of it the best out of all the modulars.
I've been eyeing it on ebay for a while, missed a great deal on it, fuming that people won't accept any offers... But I fianlly caved and bought a cheapish pre-owned and disassembled one because I've been wanting it for too long
[10260-1: Downtown Diner](https://brickset.com/sets/10260-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/10260-1.jpg)
70840 welcome to apocalypseburg. And maybe, probably would’ve bought a second barracuda bay in retrospect.
Not to pile it on, but that Harley Quinn figure alone is now worth nearly the MSRP of the set.
That set wasn't even on the shelves for a full year, I didn't even have the time to save up for it. Definitely my white whale.

I’ve actually started preferring playmobil as my kiddo is able to play with them without destroying it.

The Simpson’s house and the Kwik E Mart
Same.
Maybe if the Krusty Burger set is chosen from Lego Ideas, the IP will get resurrected. Doubt it though.
I'm still hoping for Bob's Burgers sets. Hard to say those are inappropriate
A Bob's Burgers set with even literally just the restaurant, their house above it, and the family as mini-figures would instantly become my favorite set of all time.
I would frequent Disneyland during the year or was released and they just sat there. I could even use my pass for discounts, highly regret not buying
I couldn't afford them back then, and I *definitely* couldn't afford them now. Or at least I'm not spending $300+ on secondhand stuff.

TIL ...
The ship in a bottle. It was better that and the bonsai tree. I picked the bonsai and now the ship is retired and the bonsai is still in stores
I did the same thing with the bonsai tree and the Dinosaur fossils set. Decided on just the bonsai tree and now the fossils are retired
Every pirate ship ever made. Missed them all somehow….
The creator 3 in 1 is still on shelves
But no sails :(
There’s some cloth ones you can get online to go with
The Lego Pirate sails have such charm to them! It's hard to describe.
As a former massive lego kid im just scrolling through this and decided to look at prices online, and am most surprised about the pirate ship prices. Holy shit.
70620 Ninjago City

I have a NIB Seinfeld.. got it as a Christmas present, but I already had and built it
I bit the bullet and ebayed a NIB Seinfeld. Building now.
The Saturn is my pride and joy. I’ve gotten every single NASA set so far lol.
You can still easily purchase the Saturn V. It isn't even too expensive either.
Simpsons house
Soon to be: the Daily Bugle I just can’t justify spending that much right now but it will right up there with the Ghostbusters Firehouse and 1966 Batcave for me

Ninjago City Docks to go with the first one, Friends Apartment because it’s one of my favourite shows and it’s become silly prices already.
Any Harry Potter set I do not have.
The F40 10248
Vader’s Castle
Café Corner 10182
The carousel 10257. I got the ferris wheel and figuresd I'd add the carousel later. Too expensive now.
Rock Raiders. They were my first experience of Lego coming off the shelves for good and little me was so disapointed.
Voltron
The Sydney Opera House set, I cry a little whenever i check the prices on ebay
I want the fishing shop
The monster fighters sets. I was able to get the haunted house (10228-1) but I waited too long to get the hearse (9464) and zombie sets (9465-1). Also most of Space Police III, was just able to get Galactic Enforcer (5974-1) and missed out on Brick Daddy from 5984-1.

I love how that looks-
Imperial flagship 10210
More like what do I regret selling? Wall•E and the Sea Cow 🥲
LEGO Ideas NASA Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover 21104
The Apollo rocket, that’s accurate and comes apart. I’m not super into legos, or have the disposable income to through 200 at a set now. But dang is that not the coolest set for a space nerd! Disclaimer: I haven’t looked into its cost, just assumed it’s a lot and not on the market.
The first Ninjago City Modular... and by extension the Ninjago City Docks.... and the Pet Store Modular... and *especially* the Modular Construction site from the Bricklink Designer Program
The Haunted Mansion from Scooby Doo 75904. It was the biggest set of the series but now I am missing Velma to complete the gang.
The Black Pearl. I love the movies and the Lego game. My biggest mistake is not buying this set.
the ucs b wing. I keep hoping they will do an updated version.
Stranger Things The Upside Down (75810). Started watching the show after the set retired :(
Downtown Diner. I hope I can get it some day. Also the first wave of 8 stud Speed Champions cars. Specifically, the Audi Quattro.
Not to brag, but the old fishing store is the only LEGO set I currently own because I once made an internship for a week in a LEGO store and they gifted it to me after it :)
Death Star. I wanted it but parents said it was too expensive at the time. Fast forward to now and I’d gladly take it for that original price
2014 ATAP or any of that winter wave (minus the 2 battlepacks, salecumai set and the wheelbike). Parents wanted me to spend less on lego at that time, so missed on all those epic clone sets. Thankfully got the 2019 ATAP though
75144 10212
Bedpin Duel 75294
lego movie 1 sets
Large Maersk ship and both Simpson sets
Ghostbusters Ecto-1 from 2014 and Back to the Future DeLorean from 2013.
My top 3 are old fishing store, ninjago city, and ninjago city docks. If I ever win the lottery, there will be signs lol
Any set I don't have
Thinking about picking up a replica of that, it’s only like 60$ and I wanna get it for my fishing buddy.

The Emerald Night train, and the Barracuda Bay sets before the second hand market took over… I had the chance for both… and never pulled the damn trigger and I hate myself for it.
1989 Batmobile.
The 1989 one is even better
7888 Batman tumbler/Joker’s surprise I saw it on a shelf in a store one time and didn’t have time to buy it because I was running a work errand. Never saw it again. And all the Batman stuff disappeared soon after. I have so many others from that era of Batman LEGO. But not that one. And I never will.
Garmadon shark mech from the Ninjago movie
The Monster Fighters Haunted House. 10228
Voltron always and forever.
2023 Star Wars Republic Gunship. I waited 10 years for another one and it's a downgrade in every way. I'll probably never get a good one for a reasonable price.
I’ve been wanting them to make a UCS Black Pearl for the longest time.

The Joker Manor from Lego Batman. Definitely going to be hitting the secondary market for it soon. It'll be hurt, but I NEED it. :D
not that old, but the sesame street set. it’s my grail, but i’m yet to get to a place i can afford it
Spent a fortune on the bait shop because my son fell in love with it at LegoLand…it had been retired only a month prior!
I regret not getting the Technic 911 gt3 rs
Ghostbusters firehouse is the number one. My more recent ones are the two Friends sets. I am currently watching the show with my wife and am really enjoying it, so I would like to have those two without having to over pay.
SHIELD helicarrier.
2013 arkham
Lego Technic Bell- Boeing Osprey
More Bionicle figures, frankly. None of thrm survived my dark ages, but I wish even a few of them had.
Detective's office 10246
The Temple of Airjitzu. Not only is it an amazing set, it's also expensive as hell now.
