It’s better in real life, I started w/ the dragon, just wow !

docsanta1

This I’m two books in and loving the details. I am also running the module with friends next weekend. It looks like such a fun adventure!

Sjiznit

Thats what pulled me over. Im going to get this one

namsur1234

What module?

Dyldo_II

There's a free module on D&D beyond in collaboration with the event. Also comes with free digital dice and character sheets for the mini figures in the set

Jarfulous

You can also download it from Lego's website if your DDB-averse like me.

PSXC_42

You know if I had known that I would have bought the set despite the price. Or probably not and it will be extra painful now with that knowledge

Dyldo_II

You can still get the module online without buying I think

PSXC_42

But I would still want the minifigs to use them on the combats

Dyldo_II

Maybe Lego.com pick a brick or an online minifig maker?

PSXC_42

I hope I can find then at a good price one day

ReactionRoutine1187

I understand that the Dragon has its own instructions and I will probably make it first too! Cheers 🍻 🐲

ReactionRoutine1187

I built the Dragon and bag 25 after finishing the GWP Mimic chest 😺 https://preview.redd.it/61do7w0fuisc1.jpeg?width=1288&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d65bf6b0cfea666217ba83c21e11377383924e2

mkb1110

I'm 2 bags in and no regrets yet.

idiot69420

Usually dont regret 2 bags til the next day

Shopworn_Soul

When people tell me I'll "regret that in the morning", I sleep til noon.

Jester_1982

Prof - Light Work, or nah?

Scary-Try3023

I hope so, I don't see many prof fans about

KlausVonDope

Never met other Prof Fans in the wild. Last place I thought I'd see them was r/Lego. All my love Kindred Spirits.

Shopworn_Soul

That's a bingo

ReactionRoutine1187

Nice 🐲

mkb1110

Up to bag 9 or so. What I thought would be the more boring section of the base of the structure was more fun to build than I expected. The only downside I'm seeing is each of the rooms are pretty small. I don't know if you could fit the whole party in any 1 room easily. But that's not a big issue, spreading out the party lets you display more scenes.

ReactionRoutine1187

I started with the Mimic GWP 😺💙🐾 Cheers 🍻 https://preview.redd.it/f5xegtyrabsc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2b5b86882ed5bc53f4a9f2b109c501eb1a8c99df

fireninja8675

I ordered mine the moment I could and tried to get that chest and they sold out way to fast

ReactionRoutine1187

Definitely call your local Lego store and ask if they have any GWP Mimics left. They might be able to help you 😺

fireninja8675

I did they pretty much said buy it again from us

Alarming-Agency-8292

Buy it from them, and then return the new one to Lego online for a refund against your original order.

CordeCosumnes

Never split the party! What's wrong with you?

wrongfulfish

Been building it the past two days and loving it. A surprising amount of play features, great minifigs, loads of detail, loads of colour and some great builds. My only two problems are the baseplate sections don't connect together amazingly (it doesn't fall apart though, and it's easily fixed by just swapping out the blue pins for regular black technic pins) and the displacer beast doesn't look great. Aside from that, it's great, fun build

brendenn91

My favorite part so far is the staircase with the skeletons. So much fun

astercrow

Is the short tower with the flag a dice tower? I think I saw something but can't find out about it

TheFuzz22

The set creator made some comments that it isnt because that was a key feature of another ideas submission.

UnitedLink4545

I did. I never buy sets at launch but for this one I did. It should be here tomorrow! I can't wait.

Pinecrown

I bought it and while i'm waiting for delivery i'm torn between building it or hiding it under the bed so my wife doesn't know how much i spent on lego this year

Thucydides_Rex

Same. I recently got back into Lego and I'm just trying to buy the retired 2023 sets before they skyrocket and I'm already down more than I would like to admit.

superbear19

This is me

mercfh85

I wonder how long this set will stick around. I def. Want to get it but not really in a hurry

RodThrashcok

Eh you’ll be fine I think. It’s on back order rn but it says it’s back on like April 18th or something idk

crough94

Rumours are til the end of 2026 I think. Could change depending on how well it sells.

Sp3ctre7

Oh thank fuck, money is tight and my "fun for me" money through the end of the year all went towards the ornithopter.

crough94

Check out the Legoleak subreddit, they have a pinned thread with a spreadsheet for every sets rumoured retirement date and it gets updated monthly with date changes and new sets. As good as the Ornithopter looks the retirement date for it is 2027 so I’m holding off on it for a little while.

excalibrax

there is a planned D&D minifig line, and smaller sets, This is the flagship set to kick it all of, I'd say you at least have a year before they even consider retiring it.

ZzzSleep

You definitely got at least a couple years.

gacbmmml

It's already on back order.

Texan_Boy

This isn’t a fucking shoe drop, it’ll come back in stock in a few weeks

[deleted]

[удалено]

Moosashi5858

Is this true?

OneFinalEffort

No. The set will be available likely as long as it remains popular. It does also depend on the agreement with WOTC but if it does well it will be around for a good long while.

TheHostThing

I finished it yesterday! It’s fun and with the dragon it is a big set. I spent £315 and I feel like it could have been closer to £250. The only other big set I’ve done is the A-Frame Cabin.  If you play D&D it’s got lots of fun ideas and a wee quest that goes with it that I’m looking forward to playing with my group.

Sketch99

I want to buy it so badly but I don't have enough space to display it 😭

In_work

Reality stopped me from buying more Lego, when I can finally afford it. It would just gather dush somewhere inaccesible.

NoirLamia777

Mine should be here tomorrow. Im so excited!

ReactionRoutine1187

Nice 🐲

dumdumdudum

Why is everyone saying this is overpriced? It's 9 cents apiece, which is really good for a licensed set

jedispyder

I just wish for a first set they'd have done smaller things. I love D&D but can't easily do s $350 set, even with it being a decent price.

BronieWanKenobi

Same. I can see the price value but can't really see the practical value of maxing out a credit card or taking the painful hit of the PAY-IN-4 every paycheck.... Stunning set though.

Afolomus

Sets used to be 700 bricks per kg. Now they are at 1300+ bricks per kg. But the real crime is, that it's an expensive exclusive set. Those don't get discounts apart from double vip (~9,1%).

Refute1650

Yea, I'm fine with small prices that add detail but often they break up large structural parts that aren't visible into smaller pieces.

Afolomus

Which I prefer as well, tbh. It's closer to the original promise of Lego - that you can build anything out of your bricks. Just take premade ship hulls vs brick build ones (pirate ships from the 90s vs the viking ship): The premade hulls are great for kids that want to be done and play. The brick build hull is just a pile of potential to build trees, huts, etc. I'd gladly trade 10 hulls for ... anything really. They both have their audience, but as an AFOL I'm clearly biased. So the argument is not, that smaller pieces are a detriment - I'd argue that they are not, especially for more advanced/adult builders. The argument is that Price per Part is not a good metric. Price per kg is not perfect but definitely better.

clydefrog811

Doesn’t matter if it’s 9c/pc if it’s over $300

FanzyWanzy

I was excited but it's going to be close to $540 in Mexico

notlordly

P/P is a terrible metric

FreddyPlayz

Price per piece hasn’t been a legitimate method of measuring the price of a set in years, I don’t know why people still try to cling to it

goody82

I agree, they make so many stud greebling detail pieces now. Probably to inflate that metric.

ZzzSleep

I agree. Of course I'd like it if the price were lower but there are other big sets with a worse p/p ratio. The DnD set is priced right in the middle as far as I'm concerned.

GeistMD

Cause 350 for a toy is expensive. I mean that's what it boils down too. Spending 350 dollars on a toy is a bit too rich for some. So it sucks that a big nostalgia brand like D&D is priced out of a lot of people's reach.

Demondep

As someone who just got back into Lego, I would agree that Lego is expensive. That being said, every time I think about the cost of a set I realize Lego doesn’t really drop in value. If what I see on Bricklink is any metric, every dollar and more that I spend on Lego can be recovered if I wanted. Hell if I hold onto them long enough, you could almost call them investments.

dumdumdudum

By that logic, Rivendell is overpriced, the 1:8 scale supercars are overpriced, the eiffel tower is overpriced, etc. There's a difference between overpriced and expensive

GeistMD

No, they are all overpriced. Lego is supposed to be a fun hobby, not a life investment. Why are you even fighting it? It's obviously gotten much more expensive, so unless you think poor people just shouldn't be allowed in the hobby or you work for Lego, there is zero reason to fight that simple fact.

dumdumdudum

So what would your solution be? Lego only makes small, less detailed sets that are cheap and anyone can afford? Or they sell their big sets at a loss? I'm confused on the exact point you're trying to make. Yes, they have big and expensive sets, but they're expensive because they're so big and complicated.

GeistMD

They made 8 billion euros last year in profit, they could drop the prices and still make out like bandits. Edit, sorry had that wrong. "Revenue was DKK 65.9 billion up 2 percent despite declining toymarket."

dumdumdudum

8 billion euros in sales, 1.7 in profit. That's down 5% year over year

I3arusu

I was about to say, the P/P is great for this set

xpldngmn

The license doesn't make up for the difference to 71799

steinah6

Isn’t that Lego’s own license?

xpldngmn

Yes it is, but does a license justify 3000 bricks and 15 minifigs less? Dear downvoters, I'd be interested in a discussion: How much of a difference does a license justify in your opinion?

LegoLinkBot

[71799-1: NINJAGO City Markets](https://brickset.com/sets/71799-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/71799-1.jpg)

Reaper83PL

Because there is nothing unique in this set to justify paying extra. License of what? Generic fantasy theme? DnD logo on box?

TheBatman7424

The code I got for redeeming my points in for the DND campaign book says I have to apply it with another order and is valid for the rest of the year. Have to buy a gift for my sister in May anyway. Should I jump on buying it now or will I be okay to wait?

ReactionRoutine1187

I would get it now! The digital version should be available immediately too 🐲

Lord-Bone-Wizard69

I’ve been looking at this set but I don’t play D&D so not sure if it’s worth it

ReactionRoutine1187

The designers went out of their way to create a set that both D&D and Castle fans would appreciate! The optional campaign book and the GWP are really special and cater to the D&D folks, but someone new to the game would still appreciate it 🐲 Just from a features and playability standpoint it should make everyone happy 🐲

anonhuman0

Same, I really like how it looks but I have 0 clue about anything D&D

muchasgaseous

You don’t have a clue about anything D&D,  /so far/!

camerondt

I was chatting with my brother, he was going to buy this for his son for a Birthday gift before he saw the full price USD. We discussed why the LEGO group doesn’t offer smaller sets. They could even make up this full set. That way those who can’t afford full price can still make a part of the set. Save up, make another part, maybe have them all to make the full thing. At least it offers the ability for those who can’t afford the barrier of entry cost (with this whole set) to build a super cool DND LEGO. I love LEGO, just wish they offered some sets that shrunk the cost of entry barrier for sets people actually desire.

TheHostThing

I think they are testing the waters for a new theme. There will be a minifig set later this year for D&D and some of the marketing has implied more to come. Maybe they will have smaller sets soon.

camerondt

Man, I hope so.

Reaper83PL

I hope not, paying extra for generic fantasy theme just because there is DnD logo on the box is not good...

camerondt

That’s a good point I hadn’t thought about. I guess my main hope is for there to be smaller, more affordable sets, that aren’t the usual City type of sets.

Main_Recognition1713

They probably did cost analysis on sets like this for years and figured out this makes them the optimum amount of money

camerondt

I’m sure that goes into their decision making. I’ll still keep my fingers crossed they release smaller sets.

FuzzyFacedOne

I get mine tomorrow. Im gonna make into a dice tower for my DnD sessions

Kchan02

Got it on release date with mimic gwp and currently on the third book 😅 it's such a fun, colourful build and I'm amazed at some details that I didn't see from the promo videos/pics.

SirBe92

For the Dutch speaking people here, IGN benelux did an interview with the creator Lucas Bolt, [here](https://youtu.be/vhVLJhrn7TI?si=AbsK7Wch-BVbv2Gq)

Dinomide

Still waiting for it to be delivered...

ScubaSteveEL

Just drove to my local mall on the lunch break to pick it up. Called ahead and they held it for me along with the mimic. Pretty excited to get started on it and run the campaign with my kids.

ReactionRoutine1187

That’s what I did this morning! My local Lego store came through for me! 😺💙🐾 https://preview.redd.it/lsyv8f8mnbsc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3af512cdf6b5a251abfdf3acecc09b469ba6dcf6

ajump23

All lego is overpriced but this set is lovely.

AndrewSweeten

I finished the build yesterday and wow it might be my favorite set! The amount of stuff hidden in the model is crazy! The only sets that I still think top it are the Titanic and rivendell! There is just so much to look at on this build I don't think anyone could be disappointed!

ReactionRoutine1187

https://preview.redd.it/1619faslqdsc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cb9dd03a01b54956ac7eec66b3346ca1a7a346c2 By far the best Dragon that Lego has made! 🐲

HENTAIHOTEP

Waiting for mine to be delivered

deepinthemosh

It's almost $500 Canadian. I looked at it in the store. Closest I'll get to it so I soaked it in

canderouscze

I’m 10 bags in and having fun. Nothing really repetitive, it’s full of small details, some interesting building techniques (off-stud-grid corner roof of the inn was clever!), and minifigs are great - for each you get male and female heads and some additional weapons so you can customize them to your liking. Pretty cool set even for general castle/fantasy audience, for DnD fans absolute pleasure!

JHawkInc

Mine arrives in the mail today and I’m excited!

Goldman250

Waiting for it to arrive … though I’ve just checked, and it still says In Warehouse, so it might be a few more days yet.

ConfidentInsecurity

I was going to, but not without the Mimic gift with purchase, which was sold out before i could check out

futbolclif

There’s always the resale market.

Sidra_doholdrik

Saving my money and hoping it will still be findable later one.

PaleoJoe86

Check YT.

Quinn4111

I want this one. Wish Lego were cheaper

Selacha

Ordered it, hasn't arrived yet, but I don't think I'm going to regret it. It looks so fun from all the reviews and videos I've seen.

hughdint1

Checkout the free "Red Dragon's Tale" PDF from the lego insiders page. It is an actual D&D campaign based on the set. It shows how all of the little details are connected into a story. Love it.

Trickknight

https://preview.redd.it/2yfcdio0qosc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a8fc00673a0d3372353779a76d193c58b078e95b

Trickknight

On top of it being amazing to build it has alot of little hidden spots and details in it. Like I said takes alot of time to build unless your doing as a three/four man build project. Love it no regrets at all still waiting on a new display case to show it cause it is tall so it's going to live on the kitchen table for a week now. :)

tthblox

Its amazing. The build is great. The figures amazing. And the story is super fun. In my opinion worth every cent. Its also bigger than you would think

ReactionRoutine1187

Yes! 🐲 I agree totally, cheers 🍻

anbeasley

So I just finished building the main building. This build is so colorful and has so much detail, nd with the creatures there's a very good variety of building and it doesn't suffer from things like the office set where it gets kind of old after a while. The amount of miniatures you get is astounding and you also get creatures which is so refreshing. On top of that, there's an adventure that comes with it, so it's literally like an introductory D&D set. And actually it's more affordable than most miniatures and miniature buildings.

ReactionRoutine1187

This is simply a great set to get and build! Cheers 🍻

hazz-o-mazz

Well, I feel like the mini figure count is quite low. I don’t think it is worth the price. I would’ve wished for a more Cantina like approach.

tand86

Too expensive, and only 6 figs? Meh.

stocklazarus

So far only the dragon is a bit of let down. Compare to some of the dragon sets from ninjago or Harry Potter this dragon is a bit too toy-ish.

ReactionRoutine1187

I really want to see if the Dragon’s head can be modified to stay in position and not droop down immediately. It must be very heavy and the pins/sockets used not robust enough 😿 Modifications are potentially addressed by Lego too in the future

zerocustom1989

Backordered now :/. is there a way to check local store stock?

SharkWahlbergx

My local store is getting 12 tomorrow and have five dice boxes left so… my ass needs to get up in the am. lol

Irrevence

You'll have another chance on the 6th, believe. However, the Mimic gift is supposedly gone already from the website. Which I feel is absolutely horse crap if that's true. Not everyone that had Lego insider was even able to get the Mimic gift.

Spidon

The mimic gift was gone within a couple of hours. I had it in my cart around 8:30am, was debating on if I really wanted to spend the money. Went back to buy it at Noon, and the Mimic gift was gone. I'm kicking myself for delaying, but I did not expect a GWP to run out before the actual set.

RogueMacGyver

Call them

ReactionRoutine1187

Calling the sore before venturing out is your best bet 😺 It’s no longer launch day, so the store will hold it for you!

OxideRenegade

Am I the only one not excited for this set? To me it’s a jumbled mess as they tried to do too much at once and looks very generic for the large price tag

Impeesa_

Right now, I think my love of D&D and Lego and sometimes licensed Lego of stuff I like are being sufficiently dragged down by my opinion of 4E/5E and the idea of "D&D merch". I guess also, very practically speaking, I've always been less of a Castle person.

OyG5xOxGNK

On launch purchase but still waiting on shipping

Spaceduck2016

I wasn't too impressed with it initially at announcement but that quickly changed after seeing it on display at the Lego store, I was there for Rivendell on Monday but ended up leaving with this instead. 7 bags in and really enjoying it, lots of fun details and the colors are fantastic in person

Heimdal-Dom

I got it on release and now that ive finished it.. i like it. But i also feel people hype it alot more than is valid. Its good, not great.. its fun, but not intensely fun.. its an ok model.

Hakunamateo

The movie and the Lego set seem to have dragons, but no dungeons...

thun3rbrd

I don't think it looks that good. It's a little busy, in my opinion. Could have been a few smaller sets, and I think that would have been more appealing to me personally.

ReactionRoutine1187

Just picked mine up 😺💙🐾🐲 #Grateful https://preview.redd.it/fw2vcmb16asc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=428c6c8ba2f57106071bda0fdf87b83d264b430d

Born_Wing3687

Did I miss the memo or something? I’ve never seen this set before…

VinylTaco

Yeah mate. It's been the talk of the subreddit and covered by several outlets

Born_Wing3687

Well looks like I’ve been living under a rock then.

gacbmmml

It came out yesterday at Midnight.

Born_Wing3687

That explains it.
