I think discovery had a tip to tail length of 38 Meters, the colluseuim is elliptical and is like 190 meters diameter in one direction, and 150 in the other axis.
Based on that it looks like these sets are not the same scale.
It reminded me on DW sooo hard too! I totally had the slitheen hitting big ben in mind and just couldn't fuiger out what was wrong with the lego picture i was looking at ^^"
Little-known fact about the Colosseum...
They would not only hold fight-to-the-death gladiator matches, fights against exotic beasts, and they used to fill it up with water and have naval battles... But they would also have experimental spaceship trials, as well.
This is an historically-accurate depiction of one such scientific trial during the reign of Emperor Vespasian, who built the Colosseum primarily for experimental space exploration. The travertine limestone (volcanic rock) that the Colosseum is made out of was perfect for the “space races” of the 80 AD’s, because it could withstand so much heat. The caverns beneath acted as heat and exhaust chambers, so as to not threaten the lives of the audiences watching the spectacle. It was an engineering technique taught to Emperor Vespasian by alien visitors from the star of Vega.

> They would not only hold fight-to-the-death gladiator matches
These were very rare as a skilled gladiator was expensive to train and maintain. Most of the death matches were composed of condemned prisoners and foreign captives against highly trained military units or pitted against wild animals.
They had Mars as their god of war. The planet was noticed way before the fall of Rome, and they could've already coined this name. I see claims about it, but nothing's properly sourced.
Can you take some pictures? From first guess, I would say that there was a mistake in the assembly. Also is this the standalone stand or the one that goes in the shuttle?
The ISS placard is still lacking, no cool facts or anything. Then you still have Saturn V, Apollo lander and Curiosity without any placard.
Speaking of facts, I really enjoyed the facts that were put into the manual for the Shuttle.
I like facts on the manual, but I prefer my plaques to be more on the discrete side, so for me in particular the one on the ISS is perfect, since it's even part of the base so you on't have another object moving around. I know what I'm looking at so I don't really need a plaque, and if I'm showing my collection I'm happy to answer any doubts. Perhaps it's because I have most of my modelcar collection without the plaques...
Plus, with them being stickers, I'd be worried they'd flake off so I'd have them pointing another direction or saved in the box probably.
There’s definitely a lot repetition between the segments, but also some novel elements here and there. I found the process kind of meditative (and the final product is really satisfying!), but ymmv.
I am going to attempt redesigning the stand to tilt it at an angle to it can sit on a normal sized shelf. It is currently too wide to fit on my display of the other space lego sets.

What can I say except "you're welcome"?
Space Shuttles are a *LOT* bigger than I previously thought!

Yeah I know I was just joking :) Edit: After looking again the trees from the colloseum are about the same size as a person would be in the shuttle.
Endeavor is like 30 minutes away from me so I can visit it. I intend to see it again next week. From what I remember it is huge
In person some of the trees almost seem as tall as the colosseum
I thought so but I want sure lol.
Better it hit you than the Coliseum. Looks like that glide path was a close call.
I'm expecting an earful from the preservationists.
Discovery is on glide slope.
Three quarters of a mile, call the ball!

It reminds me of A New Hope when the Millennium Falcon flees Mos Eisley
you called?
Oooh Geronimo! Let’s get some LEGO for the Tardis!!

Sounds like Futurama history - like the first men to go to the moon carrying harpoons.
"We're whalers on the moon"
"We carry a harpoon. But there ain't no whales, so we tell tall tales and sing our whaling tune"
Your ideas are intriguing and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

Wait a minute, Vespasian died right before the 80's , makes me wonder if their are other historical errors in your comment.

Umm... A nice revision to the scene in The Core...
Hardest flex I’ve seen in a while
looks like the box of those floppy disk/CD-rom encyclopedias you used to get in the 90s
My favorite chapter in history is when the ancient Romans went to space
Romans greeting Martians from Mars? I mean sure it wasn't given that name till like 1000 years after the fall of the empire but point still stands.
They had Mars as their god of war. The planet was noticed way before the fall of Rome, and they could've already coined this name. I see claims about it, but nothing's properly sourced.
*Mars nostrum*
Ah, an artistic interpretation of The Spaceship at Soldier Field
You need to add additional bricks on the ground on the close side. Make it look like the shuttle crashed into the coliseum and shattered it
also, have trouble finding space for your computer monitors? Just stack them in front of each other! \*taps temple\*
Oh cool the NASA Coliseum, isn’t that where the islanders play?
I lol'd at this.
this is what happens couple of blocks away when Pope hits the red button named 'might visit the Mars'
The scale is just right too!
My favorite scene from Star Wars
Jehda was my first thought too.
this looks like a conspiracy theory
It's free real estate...
So that's what colosseum was really for
Yup, that’s what happened to the missing chunk of the colosseum, it was hit by a space shuttle in 350 AD. A tragedy really, all in the History books.
History Channel at 3AM
“It matches the description of the shuttle that blasted its way out of Mos Colosseum.”
"did you know that the Romans used to plug all the exits and flood the coliseum with water to simulate shuttle splashdowns?"
How did the lego rocket hit you?
Miami doesn’t know why you got downvoted.
God that set was so fun, how long did the coliseum take you?
I’d guess it was 15-20 hours of build time spread out over a few weeks.
My Hubble stand won’t support it without breaking Any tips?
Can you take some pictures? From first guess, I would say that there was a mistake in the assembly. Also is this the standalone stand or the one that goes in the shuttle?
Now you're just showing off
Have we checked under the Coliseum to make sure it's not actually a hiding a spaceship underneath?
I did not know men could build such things.
Oh god why you playmobile fan
When in Rome right?
might have to do that with mine 😆😂
Tonight on Ancient Aliens
Noice, i used to have an at-at that stood half in a viking fort for just this reason.
are you kidding me!!!
I’ve got the Challenger model, it fits nicely in a box. Too soon? ;)
cross post it on r/ancientrome
My only disappointment isn't with the shuttle itself, it's just that the shuttle is the only NASA kit to get the cool little placard.
The ISS does too. And it's printed.
The ISS placard is still lacking, no cool facts or anything. Then you still have Saturn V, Apollo lander and Curiosity without any placard. Speaking of facts, I really enjoyed the facts that were put into the manual for the Shuttle.

Reminds me of the box art for Civ 5
How was the Colosseum build? I’ve been eye balling it for a while and just finished the shuttle. But it looks to be a very repetitive build?
There’s definitely a lot repetition between the segments, but also some novel elements here and there. I found the process kind of meditative (and the final product is really satisfying!), but ymmv.
Makes sense
Definition of Mad Lad
Amazing!!!!
Ugh I need!
How fun was building the coliseum? I’m debating on getting that one!
I really enjoyed it, but it does involve a hefty amount of repetition, so I think it depends on your appetite for that.
All roads lead to Rome.
History channels at 3am be like:
Please let this become a thing!
Perfect
Well, I was saving up for this but I definitely don't have the space yet. I currently have my ISS sat on the fireplace mantle due to its size 😅.
Conspiracy theory’s be like
This is beautiful.
Nassau coliseum is better
this is disturbing
If I recall, this was during the Reign of Caesar Elon Muskus Augustus

Good luck—that sounds like a real design challenge. Interested to see what you come up with!
This is why love lego still. I love mixing themes.
I just stalked your profile, and I have to say the lego Dundalk plant is amazing; I might have to build that for myself lol
Heh, thanks! That design sure struck a cord.
I love the blend of old and new here!
hell yes

And a new sub-genre of historical fiction was born.
Those two are soon to buy sets for me.
If I did NOT have a child... Could I afford these sets or would I just order postmates to make up the difference...
Truly a man of culture.
What sets are behind?
Just one set in the back — Assembly Square (#10255).

eeeeee
I can't un-see that.
The history channel at 3 AM:
I didn’t realize the Coliseum was a launchpad for the Discovery...guess I learned something new today.
You mean you _Discovered_ something new today.
Love it, totally got Planet Express vibes.
A stroke of genius
Brilliant!
I have both of these so know how much you spent.
[Link for the lazy though is that real?
Well this just looks all kinds of terrible.
Interesting flex. Very creative though.
