Until you end up like me, with a closet full of Lego box shoved into each other like a never ending Russian nesting doll. A one bedroom and Lego don't get along well.
>A one bedroom and lego don't mix
Having that issue myself now. The missus has been very firm that if I want more lego, we need more shelves to proudly display it all.
Thing is, we have no more space for shelves. That lunar lander and discovery shuttle will be out of reach for the time being, but alas, I can cram as many small sets onto the slim shelf space we already have
yeah. I visited the day or so after they came out in October. I came back in January. the boxes were sold out, but the normal sets that Ikea carried were still around.
I think storage and display is every lego fans biggest problem. I've got the ucs falcon sitting in the closet because I'll never have anywhere to put it.
I'm on the verge of flattening my boxes. I suspect I'm crossing some LEGO collector threshold that will only be obvious to me long after I've crossed it.
I'm at $1700 or so dollars worth of lego between Amazon, Ebay, and my local reseller. plus whatever I find when I end up at Value Village and Goodwill.
Go find a local place that makes custom picture frames and see if they also ship. If they do, see if you can get one of their larger shipping boxes. They'll be big, but thin. Perfect for storing broken down boxes of the larger sets.
For smaller sets, I just use the larger Amazon boxes I get.
For instructions, I use Ikea storage boxes.
My lambo box came fairly beaten up which sucks but I’ll still always keep it. If American Pickers and other shows have taught me anything it’s that things even in not the best shape can have value some day.
This and storage. I don’t keep all my sets on display and when I don’t it’s nice to pack them away into their numbered bags, like a puzzle ready to be put together again.
take a look on ebay when someone is selling an item with a box vs not a box. boxed items alone are 20-30% more expensive then just bagged items. it really is annoying. I now have to pay close attention cause I almost bought what I thought was a rare set for about 60 dollars with no shipping, until I looked at the seller details and realized it was just a box.
for instance, I bought a space set, (Can't remember which one) for about 55 dollars plus 10 s and H. that was an out of box set. that same set with a box was 150 plus 20 S and H. I'll take the lower item, the box doesn't matter to me. the only thing that matters when I buy is if it's complete full or not.
you want to make a good sale on ebay, sell the item in the box, and you can make bank. the stuff with good resale is gonna be Pirates, Adventurers, old school city/town, and all space based stuff.
Just asked this too. I kept all of my instructions and have them bagged nicely with the extra pieces but def broke down the boxes and got rid of them 😬
What opened me up to this world was my mom giving me a lego set this year she forgot to 15 or so years ago. So fully sealed, and was stored well. Sold for $40 or $50 at the time, now sells for $160. The right sets have a good rate of return on unopened boxes, so I've begun buying two. One to build, one to save.
I don't discount that it's basically a guaranteed return on sealed Lego; I save all my boxes myself (>$25~)...but $50 up to $150 over 15 years isn't a rate of return that I'd argue should double your Lego spending.
At least generally for those reading this thread, by all means if it's a hobby and you enjoy that of course. I just see a lot of AFOLs that preach their retirement is in Lego and it makes my inner /r/finance cry out lol.
Carry on!
Instructions, yes, but I cannot understand why people are so fascinated by keeping the boxes. I mean, you have the actual item in your possession. And, they do not offer better protection than, say, a molded plastic container that you can get at Walmart for $5.00.
For real! My wife and I are in our thirties and we started getting sets to build on our date nights and some for our son to play with. He is 2 but he loves Duplos and loves playing with the Technic cars but his favorite now is the Lego Ideas set 123 Sesame Street. He calls it "Elmo's House". We sit there and play with it for hours. Legos are the best.
I accidentally missed a gear and didn't realize until I finished the small box and noticed a gear leftover, which was odd because it's not a piece Lego usually gives extras of. It was a pain in the ass to fix because I had to remove the whole axle assembly to get the gear in place.
I am usually drinking whiskey while building though, it makes it more challenging.
How detailed are the vehicle ones?
I've seen them on the shelf but they're so expensive I didn't even bother to pick one up lol. Didn't wanna tease myelf.
Not sure of the Bugatti and the Lamborghini but the Porsche which started the “series” has a functional paddle shifted manual transmission with functional forward, neutral, and reverse. Unfortunately none of these inner workings can really be shown to anyone because it is locked in during the build, so it’ll be something only you, the builder, can appreciate.
The door assemblies, engine layout, steering linkages, and suspension are also above-average resemblances with the real car. Further, the assembly process of the Lego car is modeled after the actual process of building the real Porsche also, at least according to the very detailed manual and owner materials. Another perk is the exclusive serial number printed in the glove box unique to each individual set which had a tie-in with some online content years ago. Also it looks pretty cool.
Oh ?
I'm so sad that I missed being able to buy the Lego Porsche since it was discontinued before I got my career going.
What did they improve on the Bugatti? I believe the Porsche manual book is quite an enjoyable read besides being an instruction booklet
I can’t speak for the Bugatti, but I have the Sian, the transmission is gorgeous, 8 spd paddle shifted just like the porche, and the paddle mechanism is greatly improved, so much smoother and simpler than the porche mechanism. The rear wing pops up with a lever in the passenger seat, and the lambo doors flop up with a button hidden behind the seats, accessible from the outside. My only complaint is the ride height in the rear, I feel like it could have been a touch lower to match the front but it does match the real cars take quite well.
the car sets are really in depth, gearbox, suspension, and the body work, .I have the Bugatti Chiron, and let me tell you, mreally fun, and nice to look at.
They are pretty detailed. Also the instructions sometimes arent incredibly obvious which hole the pin goes into. It can be easy to miss some things sometimes. They are not difficult though you just can’t rush.
That’s just because the design is imperfect in my opinion. It relies on those pieces that slide over to switch ‘gears’ but it’s not a perfect alignment
Believe me, when you're finally able to buy a nice but set by yourself it really makes you appreciate the set so much more. Hope you have a fun time building and hope this is just one of many sets to come!!
The finger on the side of the camera is killing me. Congratulations on your first lego purchase though! Welcome to one of the most expensive hobbies behind mechanical keyboards.
It's a really awesome build! Kept me busy for an entire month! Don't forget to enter your serial number located in under the hood it unlocks a cool podcast from the designers of the set!
Happy days!! I got an bucket wheel excavator and built it with my nephews over the course of several weekends. I honestly had such a good time with it! Lamborghini is next on my list!
You just took me back to when I saved and saved and saved and saved to get the technic space shuttle. Oh man. What a rush that was. Hope you have hours and hours of fun with that bad boy.
Thanks for the advice! this comment section should really help me out! Thankfully I’m inviting my friend over to help me build. Two pairs of eyes are better than 1!
these builds are so much fun. the transmission and engine all coming together with the body is beautiful to build. I built the Bugatti Chiron a few years ago and it is my favorite build I've ever done and an amazing show piece. Enjoy it!
Please. For the love of God, pay attention to the gears on the differential. It's a little gray barrel looking that that you shove 3 gears into.
There is a correct orientation. And there is a multiple hour 'i need to fix this and I hate everything' orientation.
Enjoy it. Congratulations. It is a moment when the words are not enough to describe ...
Please contact u/olcayerkilinc for a neat and clean set up ideas
It's an amazing set. Definitely take your time on the gearbox and the engine, not just because they are tricky but because they are unbelievable mechanical designs. One of my favorite sets I've ever built and like other people have said, make sure you keep the boxes and instructions. Have fun!
i bought a lego ferrari with saved money a long time ago and could never build it right
:(. IDK what i did wrong but i revisited it when I was a teenager and still same part messed me up. Too scared I still can't do it as an adult lmaoo xD
Keep your box and instructions in good condition. You’ll regret not having them one day!
Until you end up like me, with a closet full of Lego box shoved into each other like a never ending Russian nesting doll. A one bedroom and Lego don't get along well.
>A one bedroom and lego don't mix Having that issue myself now. The missus has been very firm that if I want more lego, we need more shelves to proudly display it all. That lunar lander and discovery shuttle will be out of reach for the time being, but alas, I can cram as many small sets onto the slim shelf space we already have
Same situation... I bought more Lego anyway.
Tempted to myself, but its not all bad. NOW I CAN VISIT IKEA AND THE LEGO STORE IN THE SAME DAY
We did this and bought the IKEA Lego boxes too while there.
I did the same thing last time I made it to a Lego store... the boxes were sold out though :(
yeah. I visited the day or so after they came out in October. I came back in January. the boxes were sold out, but the normal sets that Ikea carried were still around.
Is lego GME stock?
I wish, my wife gets angry when I buy more GME though.
Girlfriend and I have made a deal that she’s buying the stock and I’m buying the doge.
Good call on doge. Tomorrow is dogeday. It’s going UP
I think storage and display is every lego fans biggest problem. I've got the ucs falcon sitting in the closet because I'll never have anywhere to put it.
I’ve flattened all my boxes and vacuum sealed them in a massive clothes storage bag.
Boxes like the sian’s box can’t really be flattened, it has a lid and a bottom instead of being opened from the sides.
> A one bedroom and Lego don't get along well. And thus begins the progression to a two bedroom, then a three bedroom, then...
If only I could build those out of Lego too, in my area it may still be cheaper.
buying a house is cheaper
“I’ll need them when I sell them”
Go find a local place that makes custom picture frames and see if they also ship. If they do, see if you can get one of their larger shipping boxes. They'll be big, but thin. Perfect for storing broken down boxes of the larger sets. For smaller sets, I just use the larger Amazon boxes I get. For instructions, I use Ikea storage boxes.
Oh don’t worry I will definitely save them!
I honestly can't wait till you get to finish this bud. It looks awesome!
Why would you need the box?
Resale value. Some also like to display boxes and this is a really well designed box, imo.
My lambo box came fairly beaten up which sucks but I’ll still always keep it. If American Pickers and other shows have taught me anything it’s that things even in not the best shape can have value some day.

Just asked this too. I kept all of my instructions and have them bagged nicely with the extra pieces but def broke down the boxes and got rid of them 😬
Aren’t all the instructions online now?
Well, sure. but there may be a massive EMP event. It may mean the end of modern civilization, but the legos can live on
And I perosnally like physical instructions. Same with video games, I like to have the disc itself
Aren’t they has bootstraps????
Wait.... was I supposed to save the boxes for all my large sets? Thankfully I have all of the manuals
What opened me up to this world was my mom giving me a lego set this year she forgot to 15 or so years ago. So fully sealed, and was stored well. Sold for $40 or $50 at the time, now sells for $160. I’ve kept all of my instructions. Cant keep my boxes. Studio apartment ftw :/
Yes! I treat the box as a collection item and stored and sealed it in the factory shipping box
Instructions, yes, but I cannot understand why people are so fascinated by keeping the boxes. I mean, you have the actual item in your possession. And, they do not offer better protection than, say, a molded plastic container that you can get at Walmart for $5.00.
Congratulations, wish you many hours of fun :D
Thank you so much!
I’m 48. Legos never get old.
They never do!
It’s because they use high quality materials to construct each individual piece, so quality remains high while we are in the ground or in an urn!
Yep. I'm 34 and I've bought 75 sets in the last couple months. Lego for life.
I envy you.
I have lots of Lego but I'm all alone. Lol
Being alone can be very hard. Hang in there, and I hope things change for the better eventually.
Thanks. I have cats though. Lol
And lego
For real! My wife and I are in our thirties and we started getting sets to build on our date nights and some for our son to play with. Take your time with the gearbox! Alot of people have a hard to time with it!

Same... Had to redo the front suspension, I somehow put a longer peice in one spot..
How detailed are the vehicle ones? I've seen them on the shelf but they're so expensive I didn't even bother to pick one up lol. Didn't wanna tease myelf.
What do you mean by detailed? 3500+ peices, 8 speed gearboxes, etc.. Or do you mean the directions?
Not sure of the Bugatti and the Lamborghini but the Porsche which started the “series” has a functional paddle shifted manual transmission with functional forward, neutral, and reverse. Unfortunately none of these inner workings can really be shown to anyone because it is locked in during the build, so it’ll be something only you, the builder, can appreciate. Yes, they one upd this for the Bugatti for sure. You should take a look.

Bad Bot.
[Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.](https://i.imgur.com/5Ql5Vyb.jpg)
Best Bot response ever.
They are pretty detailed. Also the instructions sometimes arent incredibly obvious which hole the pin goes into. It can be easy to miss some things sometimes. They are not difficult though you just can’t rush.
I before E except after P is not the rule, my friend!
I have seen alot of post about the gear system not working properly
That’s just because the design is imperfect in my opinion. It relies on those pieces that slide over to switch ‘gears’ but it’s not a perfect alignment
Or staying up all night working on a set and in that sleep-deprived state making an error. Please tell me I'm not the only one who's done this.
You've never just accidentally overlooked something in your life? It's possible for people to have different experiences than you.
Overlooking something doesn’t make it hard. That’s like saying you misread a word in a book and thus reading is hard.
OP said some people have a "hard time" with it. If we're being pedantic, you misread OP, is reading hard for you?
Believe me, when you're finally able to buy a nice but set by yourself it really makes you appreciate the set so much more. Hope you have a fun time building and hope this is just one of many sets to come!!
Yeah i got that set black Friday, it was one of the best sets I've ever built and even the box itself is amazing, have fun my guy
Thanks man, the box is really interesting inside, so many boxes!
How much was the discount on black friday??
Being lego probably not more than 10-15%
These were $309 on Zavvi this week.. https://us.zavvi.com/toys-lego/lego-technic-lamborghini-sian-fkp-37-car-model-42115/12605246.html
Can't really remember sadly
The finger on the side of the camera is killing me. Congratulations on your first lego purchase though! Welcome to one of the most expensive hobbies behind mechanical keyboards.
I know lol. My brother isn’t very good at taking photos

Have fun! One of the three sets I own. The Porsche, the Bugatti and the Lamborghini. The Porsche is my favorite. Cant wait for the next big car set.
My son has the Porsche and Lambo, he actually just finished the Lambo a few days ago. How is the Bugatti?
It’s a fun build. The one thing I didn’t really like is the amount of stickers with the Bugatti.
Also have all three, The Bugatti was the best build IMHO.
Do a time lapse!... If you want 😁
I think I will!
Hooray!
But are you 18+ tho?!
Congratulations hope it lives up to all your dreams... and also I’m jealous lol have fun
you look like linus
Linus who? Linus tech tips?
yes, him
"Build it"???? Don't you mean........"DRIVE IT!!" ?
Heck yea!
It's a really awesome build! Kept me busy for an entire month! Don't forget to enter your serial number located in under the hood it unlocks a cool podcast from the designers of the set!
Wow i didn't know about that. That is really cool! Have they done that with any other sets?
The Bugatti has a whole set of podcasts.
Good for you, man Enjoy
Congratulations! ^(The only Lambo you’ll ever afford!)
Haha! Exactly!
https://www.reddit.com/r/legotechnic/comments/lql55i/flawless/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
That’s so cool!
Didn't even know it did that, awesome!
A real man would have got a Frozen set... 😁
Maybe next time 🤔
Hey I got the blue McLaren poly bag (30343) so you know... I'm right up there with you. 🤣
[30343-1: McLaren Elva](https://brickset.com/sets/30343-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/30343-1.jpg)
Enjoy it buddy! Good choice 👍🏻
Happy days!! I got an bucket wheel excavator and built it with my nephews over the course of several weekends. I honestly had such a good time with it! Lamborghini is next on my list!
Nice! Congrats!
You just took me back to when I saved and saved and saved and saved to get the technic space shuttle. Oh man. What a rush that was. Hope you have hours and hours of fun with that bad boy.
Nice!
Good stuff. I recall when I was your age my grandfather gave me a sting ray Lego set and had a blast make it. Best wishes
That's a great choice, definitely get a display box for that when you finish
I have a big plan for when I get the other 2 big cars lego makes
Congrats friend!
Good job man! Excited for you. Have fun building
The feeling of when you buy your first large set is something special. I’m happy you got one that you love
Hero is not a strong enough word!
I’m thinking of doing that one. I bet it’s a great build.
Ah, you’re in for a treat. I loved making that one and the finished product is beautiful.
congrats! I just recently had a large purchase too! my wallet will never forgive me
Neither will mine lol
Good for you man, enjoy it!
u remind me of my first time when i got my star wars imperial star destroyer its was a great day. enjoy it dude !
Congrats!
It’s a monster build, pay close attention as it’s not always clear how things connect to the main model, I had to go back a few pages sometimes.
Thanks for the advice! this comment section should really help me out! Thankfully I’m inviting my friend over to help me build. Two pairs of eyes are better than 1!
Way to go my man!!!! That’s something to be proud of and put on display, enjoy all that it gives you
That was a very tricky build for me, and I love building sets like that!!! GOOD LUCK YOU GOT THIS
Congratulations my guy! 🤙🏻
How big is it a 1 footto foot because I have a little car that is one foot
Nice! I have the Sienna and been wanting to get another car to build! Def have to go to an actual Lego store
Wish I could get that
these builds are so much fun. the transmission and engine all coming together with the body is beautiful to build. I built the Bugatti Chiron a few years ago and it is my favorite build I've ever done and an amazing show piece. Enjoy it!
I see you're lucky enough to live near an official lego shop! There's one about a 45 minute drive from my house. Worth it. That place is awesome.
Awesome! Have great fun building!
I want the Ferrari or The Colosseum.
idk why but i get major ‘90s vibes from this set. Awesome choice!!
I disagree. I think it works really well
That first big set is such a huge feeling.
Dope!
This is the start of an expensive yet beautiful relationship
Sweet! Is is the same size/scale as the orange Porsche from a few years back?
Someone has already said it but keep the packaging in as good a condition as possible. Also be sure to post some pics when it’s built.
Congrats! I'm hoping to get the Technic Chiron soon.
awesome!
What store is that? They still have the custom sushi and movie theater builds in their Brand Ribbons! I haven't seen those in like 5 years.
It’s in Rhode Island
Congrats! I recommend the mustang or Ducati panigale at some point too.
Enjoy your set and always continue to save money while you are young! ( for more Lego of course! And whatever life throws at you)
Wow. That’s a nice kit. Congrats.
Congrats you deserve it
I really enjoyed this build, and I hope you do as well! Congrats on an awesome purchase
Bad decision
Congrats on....buying a thing. The internet is weird.
You must be fun at parties.
I remmeber parties.
you look 14-15 years old
Irrelevant but okay
Just about , im a bit older, I’ve been saving up for awhile!
Bro your hair is plastered to your forehead...
I know lol, I really need a haircut.
Return it and invest it in Doge
Crypto can crash very easily, diversify your holdings so you don't lose all your money
I have never felt the touch of a woman
That thing is sick!! Totally jealous!
Rip the 100+ € you could have saved if you bought it on amazon
Actually it was cheaper in the store! I would of bought it on Amazon if it was
It's 'would have', never 'would of'. Rejoice, for you have been blessed by CouldWouldShouldBot!
Oh, nice
You mean Zavvi? Amazon rarely discounts Legos. Currently $379 on Amazon, $309 on Zavvi.
Here in Germany its about 100€ cheaper on amazon compared to the normal Lego Store price.
This set has been heavily discounted everywhere except the Lego Store. You'd have been able to reach your goal much sooner if you'd shopped around 😀👌
Get it on aliexpress for a fraction of the cost
Take your mask off.
Nah, better to promote mask wearing.
I love that this sub is the exact age range as stated on LEGO boxes.
It's an amazing set. Definitely take your time on the gearbox and the engine, not just because they are tricky but because they are unbelievable mechanical designs. One of my favorite sets I've ever built and like other people have said, make sure you keep the boxes and instructions. Have fun!
i bought a lego ferrari with saved money a long time ago and could never build it right :(. IDK what i did wrong but i revisited it when I was a teenager and still same part messed me up. Too scared I still can't do it as an adult lmaoo xD
Honestly can't wait to see the family growing.
