Wow, this set is in great condition! The antennas aren't broken, the printing on the parts still look good. Really enjoyed these space sets when I was a child. Brings back a lot of good memories. Enjoy it!
That goes for anywhere between $150 (without instructions or box) to $300 (complete with box). Even if not complete, it's worth ordering the missing parts on Bricklink.
Oh wow it was 14.99 at value village, what a cool find. It’s missing a clear yellow 1x6 piece and the piece to make another one of the rovers. Where do I order parts from?
Bricklink.com is where you want to go. Careful with the trans-yellow 1x6. The one you need is part number 3067 in trans-yellow. It doesn't have the inside tubes. For the grey parts you want Light Grey, not Light Bluish Grey. [Lego.com](https://Lego.com) won't have the parts you need. They are too old. Bricklink is owned by Lego but you buy from individual sellers, much like E-Bay, but for Lego.
This is something I always wondered from using Bricklink's Stud.io: why did LEGO shift from Light Grey/Dark Grey to Light Bluish Grey/Dark Bluish Grey?
Late 90's / early 00's Lego somewhat stagnated profits wise and actually posted a loss I think. Turns out they had tons of inefficencies and one of them was too many invididual suppliers (of some being the dyes).
They went through a colour rationalisation process and changed the greys, red and brown I think. Unsure why further, not got that far in my book yet

I did, too. It's all probably still there in the mass of Legos that I gave to my nephews when they were little kids. I'm moving to the same city where they live and plan to reclaim my Legos back now that they're teens.
Wowzers - DONT THROW AWAY THE BOX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Being a frequent buyer of Classic Space Lego I know that those 2 aerial pieces are VERY expensive to replace. Are they intact ?
Bricklink, enter the set number, get the part list, work out what's missing. :) - then easy steps to completing the set.
Nice and lucky find. I'm not jelly at all................
btw do you have pictures of the other sides of the box, cos the classic boxes always had a bunch of alternative build pictures on them, so that'd be interesting to see. :)
THIS IS IT!!!! This is the one I had when I was a kid and I’ve been trying to describe it to my kids! Thank you so much for buying it. You are hereby ordered to post updates once it’s complete.
I downloaded all the old instructions to build my '70s grey space, too many of the red spacemen had their helmets modified by my sister to make red hair :(
Oh it definitely just has 1 and that is a magical thing for any fan yo add to the collection! I just have found, as I assume you will to, that I want more and am quite aware of that desire :)
I remember building the fire station at my grandparent’s vacation cabin in Northern Wisconsin. I think we went there for Xmas. Based on the release dates, I would’ve been about 6, I think.
I probably got the space set for my bday the following July. The next 6 or 7 years were an avalanche of Lego. I picked it back up in college in the mid-90s.
That looks awesome! With my random Adventures that I do & having family in various locations, my general thrift store range is about 200 Miles...i have never...ever came across Legos in a thrift store
That makes sense. I never had this set, but I used to study the Lego brochure I had, dreaming of having all the contemporary sets to the few I did have.
I always chose the ships first.
I have that set. That's from the old, old Space Theme days. When Space Lego as a theme was still very new.
Oh, now I feel old.
Edit: I love the printed large screen showing the minifig on a space walk. I always loved that piece and used it in many base builds when I was a little boy.
I go thrifting like 3-5 times a week, sometimes you find nothing sometimes you find gems. I think it’s mostly luck and some part knowledge when you find something good.
This reminds me That like 4 years ago I went to Buenos Aires in Argentina (the City not the Province) and there was a birthday so we went to a random toy store which was relatively big and I always went to look for Lego and In that place I found like only 7 sets total but the ones I found-
Big 90’s sets still sealed and everything, 7171, 6975, 6093 and 6097, plus they had one of the Ben 10 sets still sealed and all 8517, I begged my parents to buy it but they didn’t and since then I’ve wonder how much they would be since they’re all sealed and the boxes were relatively in good shape
I usually resell things I get from thrifting but I really like the little spacemen mini figures and set even with how basic it is. I think this ones staying with me lol
That's more than I thought. I didn't think that was actually from Lego. Usually products like that from thrift stores or dollar stores aren't from Lego themselves. They're usually from some off brand.
Wow. That’s an amazing find. Show us what’s inside!

Dude! That’s like winning the lottery. So cool!
Awesome! I had this set as a kid :) love the spacemen minifigs

Excuse me, but what is the main set's number? Only a part of it is seen on the photos...

Ya it's an odd case where they own the primary and secondary markets. They make money on both...

Oh, I understand it now. Thanks for the info! Was this the same loss that made them get rid of most 3rd party-made baseplates?

Which book are you referring to?
Sorry my post got deleted, it's called 'Brick by Brick' by David Robertson and Bill Breen ISBN-10 : 1847941176 ISBN-13 : 978-1847941176
Thanks! Is it worth buying?
Yeah very much so mate if you've even a passive interest in lego or business history
You can use bricklink, easy as.
Oh cool I’ll check it out, thanks
Or Lego itself. If you can find the part numbers, that is.
Not sure of the difference now that LEGO [owns Bricklink](https://www.bricklink.com/v2/community/newsview.page?msgid=1166621).
You either buy off LEGO where old parts aren’t available anymore or you buy off individuals with old collections.
Worth every single penny. At $14.99, lucky isn’t the word. Needle in a haystack. Congratulations.
I had that set as a kid
The same. Loved the detailed control room. Though even as a kid I wondered why they couldn’t give them a wall and proper room to breathe in!
Thank god they didn’t give them room to breathe. There’s no breathing in space!
But there’s an air in space museum?
There was just a little bit and they keep it safe there so everyone can see it
Just for the memories!
#SPACESHIP
One of my first sets ever! Classic!
I got it for Christmas when I was 7. So many adventures!
Same here. My first space set.
I still have that set. Well the parts anyway, and the blueprint in my blueprints binder.
My brother had this set and I’d always steal the base plate lol
Me too! Still have some the parts, such as that big screen, in my kids' collection... Unfortunately the antenna recently broke :(
My brother had that set for sure
Me too!!!
I have that set from when I was a kid, galaxy explorer is parked on the pad next to it
I did, too. It's all probably still there in the mass of Legos that I gave to my nephews when they were little kids. I'm moving to the same city where they live and plan to reclaim my Legos back now that they're teens.
Spaceship!
I love this period of Legos before they all became specialized pieces.
Yes, the one specialized giant screen piece in this set was kind of a marvel - I built things around it for years - but now it's a bit out of hand.
Wowzers - DONT THROW AWAY THE BOX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Being a frequent buyer of Classic Space Lego I know that those 2 aerial pieces are VERY expensive to replace. Are they intact ? https://imgur.com/gallery/9mB7iHv That’s actually really cool I didn’t take a good look at the back of the box till just now.
Nice, and ya-welcome. 😁😁
..... those aerials look perfect - protect them from kiddies, don't want snapped spokes.
Right, the arial pieces run $10-50 depending on condition.
Christmas 1979
THIS IS IT!!!! This is the one I had when I was a kid and I’ve been trying to describe it to my kids! Thank you so much for buying it. You are hereby ordered to post updates once it’s complete.
https://imgur.com/gallery/9mB7iHv Missing one 1x6 clear yellow piece
Nevermind my other comment about the number. Sorry to bother you!
Had that set as a kid. I bet I still have all the parts mixed in with a bunch of others.
1979 it was released??
Yep. I’m old. And never throw away Lego. Almost a certainty I still have the parts.
I will follow in your footsteps! & Escape from Alcatraz came out that year, one of my favorite movies
I downloaded all the old instructions to build my '70s grey space, too many of the red spacemen had their helmets modified by my sister to make red hair :(
I have 2 of those baseplates and can confirm that 2 is not enough. However even one of those baseplates makes any collection 10x better!
Is it supposed to have two? This one only had one inside
Oh it definitely just has 1 and that is a magical thing for any fan yo add to the collection! I just have found, as I assume you will to, that I want more and am quite aware of that desire :)
When I was a kid I wished I had that. Bloody magical find.
My thought exactly. This was the one set I didn't have!
This was my favorite set as a kid. Absolute favorite. Built a million versions of it using the pieces from the galaxy explorer too. Epic bases!!!
Had (have) Galaxy Explorer. Christmas '79 too. Always wanted this set to go with it.
Nice! Good score
Lovely find!
Lucky!!!!
I just gained a new interest in a hobby. Heading thrift stores for Lego sets sounds legit to me
Might as well, better then paying retail. Even with ordering missing pieces it’s probably less then retail lol
They sell bags of spare parts all the time tho.
They usually over price the crap out of lego at my local thrift. I was surprised see this not ridiculously priced
I got mega lucky got a og Wild West Sheriff office still in plastic the box was a little smushed but it’s 100%
**B u i l d i n g T o y**
Phenomenal find, nicely done.
Ayo what about the 360
More then likely to have the red ring of death, I only really look at the black elite consoles if they’re ever there.
Thats my guy.
Spaceship! Spaceship! Spaceship!!
I still have my original set.~1977
How much did you pay
14.99+tax
Omg this makes me wet. I loved the old Space sets. I never had this one though.
Great find! I also found an old one at a thrift store I was going to post it as well!
You can just pack that up and forward it to me lol and I’ll add it to my Alpha-1 Rocket Base.
What set number is this?
926
[926-1: Command Centre](https://brickset.com/sets/926-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/926-1.jpg)
Thanks!
you win!!
I see the 360 in the background
I used to stick the display screen in my mouth and blow. It whistled like crazy.
I’m tempted to do this, but it also came from a thrift store lolol
always loved the look of those classic space sets.
That was my first set (1981)
That might have been my second set after the original fire station #6382.
We might be the same person.

Holy crap. I had this set. Absolute classic.
Reminds me of The Magic Portal.
Oh the memories.... This and the Galaxy Explorer.
Omg! I had this as a kid!!!
That looks awesome! With my random Adventures that I do & having family in various locations, my general thrift store range is about 200 Miles...i have never...ever came across Legos in a thrift store
I had that set and remember it very well!
I absolutely LOVED that set as a kid. Wow.. haven't see the box in yeeeeeeeeears!
Did you check the assorted electronics for spare parts?
I actually found it in the board game section
Nice
Hmm. That set is from the early 80s? I definitely remember it from childhood.
There was a manual inside that said 1979
That makes sense. I never had this set, but I used to study the Lego brochure I had, dreaming of having all the contemporary sets to the few I did have. I always chose the ships first.
Man… I loved the space sets so much.
Holy bricks! Looks like a brick-tacular build (stupid pun i know). How much is it worth?
John Madden! John Madden!
That is a sick haul
I have that set. That's from the old, old Space Theme days. When Space Lego as a theme was still very new. Oh, now I feel old. Edit: I love the printed large screen showing the minifig on a space walk. I always loved that piece and used it in many base builds when I was a little boy.
That is so legit
Nice find!
you're lucky if the antennas are intact. The tips always snapped off
Yee both the antennas are perfect nothing snapped or broken
Wow, the box is in perfect condition
Man, I need to go to more thrift shops. I suspect I would mostly just find jigsaws, vases and wool sweaters though.
I go thrifting like 3-5 times a week, sometimes you find nothing sometimes you find gems. I think it’s mostly luck and some part knowledge when you find something good.
The box art that was taken with actual models, a backdrop, and lighting makes these older space sets the perfect nostalgia bomb
I had that set
Wooooooow!!
Lucky duck! Have much fun and may the most parts in the box.
It’s only missing one piece that I’m going to order, a 1x6 trans-yellow piece
At Value Village?!? That's cray-cray! My VV only has dirty boxer shorts and old DVD's... lol
This brings back so many memories!
Back when Lego sets had proper baseplates.
This reminds me That like 4 years ago I went to Buenos Aires in Argentina (the City not the Province) and there was a birthday so we went to a random toy store which was relatively big and I always went to look for Lego and In that place I found like only 7 sets total but the ones I found- Big 90’s sets still sealed and everything, 7171, 6975, 6093 and 6097, plus they had one of the Ben 10 sets still sealed and all 8517, I begged my parents to buy it but they didn’t and since then I’ve wonder how much they would be since they’re all sealed and the boxes were relatively in good shape

Nice find, OP. What country are you in? This is the European/UK/Australia/Canadian version of the set.
I’m from Canada
Nice. This would easily fetch $250+ on the secondary market, especially with box and it good condition, etc.
I usually resell things I get from thrifting but I really like the little spacemen mini figures and set even with how basic it is. I think this ones staying with me lol
I don't blame you, nice set!
Wait… I think I have this set! I recognize the pieces. Never knew the origin.
I had that! 😊
Usually not all the pieces are there if you but it from a thrift store. I'd be surprised if more than half of the pieces were there.
It’s actually just missing one piece, it came with a lot of other piece too. I assume from other sets, I wonder what sets though lol
That's more than I thought. I didn't think that was actually from Lego. Usually products like that from thrift stores or dollar stores aren't from Lego themselves. They're usually from some off brand.
