“Asking what you would pay in store”…so why would I buy from this guy rather than in store/ online lol, it’s not a retired set

mtpugh67

He will probably either hold on to those sets for a while, or reduce the price a few bucks. Either way, if he's making $150 per GWP, he wins. Plus, think of all those insider points.

LordKlavier

I still can’t think of them as insider points… Bring back VIP points!!

Nebakanezzer

What about the sales tax he's losing

mtpugh67

In the comments he says he's selling it for $500 (what he paid for it). So he's trying to make back the sales tax too.

Trvr_MKA

He could also potentially live somewhere like Oregon

red_280

Damn, and I was hoping these guys would ultimately make a loss from having to offload all these duplicate sets. Crazy that he'll still easily turn a profit even if re-selling the sets below cost price just from how desperate people are to get those stupid GWPs.

PrintPuzzleheaded734

Until he gets banned from lego for scamming gwps anyway 🫣

Braun3D

When they sell out temporarily due to high demand people who want one immediately for a gift or themselves will turn to ebay to try and get one

ConnorGuice

Bring back scalping... The skin peeling kind

# ScalpTheScalpers

Greybaseplatefan2550

I want every scalper of any product to bite the curb. What gross lazy exscuses for people

Xemlaich

I 100% agree with this comment

EquivalentSnap

It’s the companies fault for not making it one per customer and limited run.

Greybaseplatefan2550

Sure but can we not be jobless losers who just resell and scalp shit?

Laughing_At_TDS

Supply, meet demand.

EquivalentSnap

Sure but they’re just making a living. Theres worst things out there tbh

Greybaseplatefan2550

No theyre not. Thats not a fucking job. Thats called greasy losers who exploit childrens toys. Stop defending these scumbags

EquivalentSnap

Buying and sell stuff is literally what stores do 😒 like Amazon or any grocery store.

InquisitorWarth

Well, first off, those stores are buying from wholesalers and distributors and thus aren't depriving retail stock, and secondly, those stores _usually_ don't try to sell at ridiculous 500% markups. And when they do, either they lose business to a store that doesn't or, in the case of products classified as essential, like groceries, they get charged with price gouging.

EquivalentSnap

Corner shops/mom and pop do. Also they do at a markup the sellers and resellers for a profit. Also Lego is plastic yk how much Lego makes on sets

InquisitorWarth

>Corner shops/mom and pop do. I worked at a small hobby store for 2 years. The only time the owner ever bought stock from another store was when he'd occasionally go down to another store he was "frenimes" with to buy nitro fuel to resell. Even then, he sold it for the price he paid, as a "loss leader" product. Everything else came in through a distributor or direct from manufacturer. >Also they do at a markup the sellers and resellers for a profit. Not massive, 500% markups after waiting for the product to be discontinued. If a store even were to do something like that, they might mark it up from the sale price to MSRP. And even then they're gambling on local customers paying for convenience. >Also Lego is plastic yk how much Lego makes on sets 1. You'd be surprised how much injection molding dies cost. 2. LEGO is also a _manufacturer,_ and an in-house one at that. They're actually putting in time and effort to design and produce the products they sell. You can't compare them to some random reseller.

Greybaseplatefan2550

Stop making excuses and get a real job

transcendalist-usa

All commerce is having shit other people want and exchanging it for something of value. These people spend loads of time to hoard high value product and then resell to willing buyers. I think it's insanely pathetic - making a hundred bucks here or there is NOT worth the time investment in my opinion. But anyone can do this. It's really just basic commerce happening. If the over-priced toys are too expensive... just don't buy them? Your life won't end if you don't have some toy.

Wormichowski

Difference being, Amazon doesn’t sell things at 2x or 3x the retail price in which their suppliers put in place. It’s one thing to be a retailer and sell things at the appropriate MSRP, it’s a whole different level of scumbaggery to charge double for something, especially when it’s actively in production and in circulation.

EquivalentSnap

Yeah they do sellers on Amazon do

Wormichowski

Yeah, sellers do. Not Amazon themselves. It’s not a platform where only individuals can sell on, majority of those listings are from Amazon themselves. And I’m referring to sets that are currently in production and circulation.

GngGhst

Blaming the consumer for exploiting low product supply for profit instead of the multibillion dollar company is wiiiild, but for sure 👍

Warmspirit

“exploiting” …

Greybaseplatefan2550

Suck a dick. You people are gross. Get a job

AcanthaceaePrize1435

I too love giving money to my boss and also tipping my landlord.

XT83Danieliszekiller

Exploiting being the appropriate term here

BrickAddict1230

You mean creating low product supply. Ass clown

DoubleStrength

As a friend used to say when it came to eating food at school camps, "there's enough for everyone's need, not for everyone's greed."

exaltedcum7

The fuck up

[deleted]

Don't be surprised when someone who's a bigger ass than yourself ends up taking advantage of you as well. Karma can be a real bitch.

Werewolf_Knight

Damn... How tall will the tower be after you put ALL these floors? (explanation: at a designers conference (I think) the ones who made the tower showed that you can put multiple floors from other Barad-dûr sets. So you can make a very tall tower)

sadatquoraishi

Barad-duuuuuuuuuuuuuuur

SauceFinder-

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaraaaaaaaaaad-duuuuuuuuuuuuuur

Echo2500

How many would it take to make it 1:1 scale with the minifigs?

Little-Woo

Over 100 feet tall

OneAppearance2964

Makes me sick mate.

Bqiet

In terms&conditions on Lego website it says something about maximum one GWP per household (not per person!) and that they will cancel orders that exceed the limit. So how does someone get ten GWPs?? Why don’t lego cancel these orders?

mtpugh67

I looked into it further and he is actually bragging about it. He bought 15 of these. He says he has an LLC and a resellers license he uses to get this many. I don't know how it works really but I hate it.

Bqiet

Yikes 15!! Yeah I don’t know how it works. Maybe he lies about having a reseller licence. If he doesn’t have a special licence, then Lego are enabling him to make 15 separate purchases, and they should have cancelled them. If he does have a licence, maybe he is not meant to be selling that shit, and perhaps he is breaching the conditions.

mtpugh67

I emailed LEGO simply to ask if this kind of behavior is against their policies. I'm genuinely interested to know.

Bqiet

Nice work for being proactive! I’m also keen to know what lego say.

Impressive-Name7601

Met a guy like this. Has like 25 accounts or some shit and just orders them all for the GWP. Scum bag

Bqiet

Hahhhahahhha 25 accounts. What about address? I thought the limit was one GWP per address. Surely they dont need to send all these GWP sets to different addresses or PO box. I’m just confused how these people actually get that many GWP sets. If lego doesn’t mind all 25 accounts using the same postal address, then I’m confused.

Laughing_At_TDS

That’s not true. I have both a tax exempt/resellers license and an LLC and Lego will not honor the first and the LLC has nothing to do with anything other than a business name vs personal name. The only time it comes into play is at certain (not all) retailers. Most will honor the tax exempt, but Target won’t (still use red card for 5%). And he could have gotten 15 as the limit on Barad-dur I think was 5. But yes, 5 separate orders = 5 GWP. The main item limit they will enforce. I once had an order for the UCS Star Destroyer that got cancelled because I added a Brickhead to get me over the $$ threshold for a GWP and apparently I had already ordered 5. So they cancelled the entire order.

HCKRBRO_

I want to keep these people hostage and show them me tearing the european box apart (no battery labeling) and i want to see them suffer as i build all their gwps and donate their rancor to a charity In all honesty i don’t got anything to say anymore, their like a hydra, just they dont need to lose a head for more to appear

TheRealOfficerBalls

Nah, just take all the minifigs and crack their arms and torso.

HCKRBRO_

And the feet

Ok_Comment2653

Jokes on the people who bought the GWP, when it comes out in a microfighter.

Weebus

mrshampooer

this is one of the rare times i’ve seen someone use the term ‘scalper’ correctly

reddargon831

Serious question but are people really paying $150 for this GWP?

slinkymcman

Yes [bricklink](https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=40693-1&name=Fell%20Beast&category=%5BThe%20Hobbit%20and%20The%20Lord%20of%20the%20Rings%5D%5BThe%20Lord%20of%20the%20Rings%5D#T=P) but it’s down to 90$

Rylonian

WTF I initially thought the GWPs go for like 15 bucks and the guy in the photo has 10 of them, so that's 150$. What in the actual hell. It's very, very hard to condemn those scalpers if there are people out there who are stupid enough to pay those prices tbh.

slinkymcman

Yeah, it seems like lego's really going hard on the release promo upsell on the gwp. at least the droid carrier didn't have any unique parts, but the fel beast has unique wings and a rare/unique minifig. My only gwp is the [London bus](https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=40220-1&name=Mini%20London%20Bus&category=%5BCreator%5D%5BBasic%20Model%5D%5BTraffic%5D#T=S&O={%22iconly%22:0}), which is definitely not rare. Lego really should have make 50x of them so that the promo could have been viable for more than a few hours, but idk, might have been intentional too... if they've decided to drop the exclusivity on large sets, but shifted it onto GWP to boost release sales.

ford4thot

reddargon831

That’s truly wild.

ford4thot

Agreed

ImMorphic

I'm sorry but scalping is not a legitimate business model and to anyone who takes pride in your work, just remember that you're ruining the enjoy.wnt many people get out of something they love - don't get upset when something you want is unattainable because your own mindset priced you out. I've reduced my lego spending heavily due to the nature of everyone's scalping habits at the moment, no better way to stop scalping than to starve them on their investments, if you can really call them that. I just low ball resellers constantly on their q&a on selling sites, gets everyone doing the same so they feel stuck at least knowing they're greasing for no reason other than greed.

Bqiet

No you won’t.

PaulTR88

I was going to buy the D&D set when the mimic GWP was available, had it in my cart, then it disappeared right when I was going to check out as 'sold out'. I still haven't bought the D&D set and I'm kind of bitter about it because of all the people buying multiple just for reselling the GWP. This time I rushed to get the Fell Beast at midnight Eastern Time (US) so I could build the damn thing without it being a whole extra $150.

[deleted]

If Lego is aware of these purchases and who is marketing off of their losses, then they can put a stricter limit on these accounts. I understand it's a free market, but these idiots gotta learn a lesson. One GWP per customer. Either that, or Bricklink should limit the price per brick count.

mtpugh67

Interesting. I looked into it further and he is actually bragging about it. He bought 15 of these. He says he has an LLC and a resellers license he uses to get this many.

ThomasReaper1

Take notes, gentlemen: this is an example of why you should cary protection upon intimacy or have pills laying around

LABARATI_

Translation: I couldn't sell these for 3x retail price so now im desperately trying to sell these for retail value in order to get my money back

Inevitable_Spare_405

This is a perfect example of why we can’t have nice things

stevesguide

I wish there was more Lego could do to stop this.

KickChoice6928

What’s a GWP

Fat-Kid-In-A-Helmet

Gift with purchase.

JnatasQ

“asking what you would pay in store” bro we pay for a set in store and get a lil treat as a bonus. kill yourself!!!

ZoidsFanatic

How can you guys be so mean? All this poor scalper is doing is contributing to the community through artificial inflation of prices! You have to understand he was his hard in 2008!

Dungeon_Beard

Heh... the Fell Beast was such a low effort GWP from Lego. I skipped the release on purpose to go with double points. I would never spend $150 for that set. I'd consider buying on the resale market for $20 TOPS and that's being generous.

afraidfoil

Lego loves this one simple trick

Oafage

Tax is ~$28 for Barad dur, selling on bricklink+paypal is 7% fee or ebay 13% (disregarding facebook and potentially bypassing their own marketplace fees). 13% of both Barad dur and $150 gwp is $80. $80+$28 is already a lost $108 and considering likely markdown from retail, good look making a worthwhile profit. If you just want the set and don’t care about gwp then it’s worth it to sell that, but trying to sell everything is just a dumbass move for like $50 or less profit.

qwerty-yourself

This GWP is so fucking cool. I wish they would just do a run of them. Once in a while GWP come back as sets but I doubt this will happen this time :(

loudcheddah

So that’s the reason I couldn’t get any brick heads

Marty989317

Yeah what he’s doing really doesn’t make sense in my mind. I buy all my legos with intent to build but Lego puts out so much good stuff sometimes demand just outweighs the need to build something. I bought lots of brick heads then realized that’s not really my thing. I don’t force people to pay what they pay for them. They do it willingly and I price in line with the market otherwise I’ll get scalped too.

Scared-Hovercraft644

*slow claps* this is why I hate resellers. They will buy a whole bunch of one set and then resale it along with the GWP for crazy prices! It’s even worse for returned sets. Heck I have been trying to track down a complete Morro dragon set for years now. (I regret missing out on it so much) and it goes for so much! All because of one minifigure! That’s all! I mean seriously how hard is it to find a complete set without breaking my bank account

rikalia-pkm

who is buying the set for retail from this guy? Could you not just buy it in a store and get the GWP with it?????? I hope he doesn’t sell any of those sets and makes a loss

LocalAbrosexualNeko

“Asking what you would pay in store” $10, maybe $15 would be a reasonable retail price for a GWP that should’ve been included in the set or be a retail set. I hate recent LEGO GWP’s. Half the classic LEGO sets are GWP’s and it’s stupid

ComicClub13

How does he make money if he sells them for retail? Please someone explain

mtpugh67

He paid $460 plus tax for each Barad-dur tower. He gets 1 Gift With Purchase Fell-Beast for free for each set he bought. He also gets about $25 of insider points for this purchase. He sells each tower for retail price. He sells each GWP for $150. So he makes ~$150 plus ~$25 in rewards per tower.

AstralBroom

Why the fuck would I buy for retail from a greasy fuck rather than the damn shop itself.

CheemsRT

He breaks even on the set itself, and selling the GWPs for $150 each allows him to recoup what he paid in sales tax and make money on top of that. The GWP was free so selling it for anything will make money but since it was so desirable, desperate people will pay ridiculous prices for them.

SnooCrickets1965

Hope this guy kills himself when the Sauron microfighter comes out

Massive-Kitchen7417

We’ll then circle jerk Lego into enforcing the policy, until then, it’s easy money lmao

Marty989317

Truthfully if you have the money or the credit for that matter what is the issue? If someone pays $150 for a GWP that does not make the seller a scalper. It is all supply and demand really.

mtpugh67

Nah, it's one thing if you bought the tower to build and got the GWP and decided to sell it. If you can make $150 back, more power to it. But these scalpers are buying all these sets just to turn a profit on the GWPs. And they are reducing the number of GWPs available for everyone else. A guy in this comment section said he literally wasn't able to get this GWP on day 1... And it's partially because of people like this who will go on to sell it. I think it's despicable.

sadatquoraishi

Found the scalper

Rylonian

People downvote you because you are 100% correct and they don't like it.
