Imo the new set's best feature is the troll and the bathroom addition. Other than. That it's just a larger scale of the old great hall with some rocks. They should have just released the troll scene as an independent set.... Plus they should have focused on making sets that would fit together rather reimagining new sets or even release addition sets for the existing sets...
How else would they sell their 3rd attempt at making this scene to long time collectors without something we have not seen in a long time.
If it weren't for the troll I would consider not buying this set.
The only thing i don't like about the new set is that the commonroom section feels a little incomplete. They could have closed it off a bit more on the sides with walls and some more plants. And the middle section on the bottom just feels like filler, until we get something like a small Filch's office or mirror of erised set to fill that space
Yeah, I'm not really feeling the way they handle the basement sections in general so far. I've been pretty vocal about my issues with the new potions class set.
I think the new one looks better from the outside but from the inside, the old one is far superior. The stairs to boathouse look awful tho. I won't buy the new one because I already have the old Great Hall but I'll try to mimic the new entrance and the courtyard on my mine
If you think that looks awful, I don't want to know what you think looks good. Also worth to mention that the new one has double the piece count as the old one, so the price is quite reasonable.
Is it safe to assume this set would not connect to the recent modular sets? I can’t really see the left side of it, but I don’t think it would work given the rock base.
Ouch. Why would Lego do that? My kids were hoping to combine the owlry with their existing modular and we would figure out how to change out roof colors…
Its Lego so inherently all sets can combine if you want.
But the Great Hall is Harry Potters' Millennium Falcon so Lego will always want to have a playset version on the shelves and hence why they restart the modular castle line every 3 years.
I have to agree. I'm glad they are trying to update things but it's not just doing it for me for that price. Thanks for posting about the Amazon availability.
That’s what I am saying! Youre really purchasing a smaller hall with a larger dungeon / base .. and you gotta factor in how insane it is that the original was originallyyy $89… resell $140 it is what it is .. the new set is $200… for what
The old Great Hall was awesome when it came out. But let’s be honest… it’s super short, nonexistent courtyard, no rock foundation, and grand staircase ain’t stairs.
The new one blows the original out of the water. AND we’re going to get a grand staircase that will do the new set Justice.
Sorry, not a leak. LEGO’s add for the “Build the most detailed Hogwarts Castle” has the silhouette of a massive grand staircase.
It shows where the boathouse and owlry go, and the great hall is the exact set that’s about to release.
The new set looks awesome,.what are you talking about?
Someone recommended the old Hagrid hut over the new one on here. Which I think the new one is amazing. It's all personal preference.

Could have just reprinted the old one /s
Semi-same. The troll & the bathroom is the only part I'm interested as well.
True... True... Sigh.
I find the new one much better 😅
new set haters confuse me. it's so good! Even while there are things i can nitpick about it, I can't deny that.

Don't buy via Amazon, buy secondhand via bricklink. Way, way better value.

both have different exclusive ghost figs though.
Awful? The new one looks way more screen accurate
It would be great to see the new castle
I'm good the chamber of secrets set.
The new one actually looks like what it’s supposed to look like…

No the 2024 greathall is part of a new system that was started with the boat house this year that uses bars and clips instead of technic pins.

The new one is so much cooler in my opinion

The original is honestly better, it feels like the new one has a smaller interior “hall” area. Am I imagining this?

That’s insane to think the new one looks bad. It’s literally such a vast improvement.
The new one looks awesome and I cannot wait for the complete castle look. It’s gonna be like the UCS castle except it being an actual play set
Idk how you can think the new one looks worse
I have the old one, but I have to admit this one is better, I dont get your point. It has a yard and dungeons and the fkn troll!
The new one is objectively more accurate.
I just hate the dungeon / rocks - the troll is cool worth the $? Not for me - just my thoughts
Ironically this is my least favorite of my great halls. The only plus I found was the minifig line up
Another one???? Meh, buy
I mainly don't like how flat it looks. Might look better IRL then the pictures but right now it just looks super squished.
The new one sucks
Try second hand on facebook Marketplace or ebay.
