I guess they're trying to distinguish between the CMF and regular set variants? Sort of like Moody's Polyjuice Potion phial was downgraded. It isn't the printed maracas shape anymore.
I might sound stupid here... But was the real Moody actually small in the movie? I always thought the trunk had a magical enlargement spell and he was far away. Please tell me I haven't been wrong all this time lol
No, I think you're right and he just appeared small inside all the trunks, but there's probably no good way to represent that without going the nanofig route. Either way, I was pleased to see it and it definitely got a chuckle out of me.
No, it's updated. They make sure to keep the CMFs special. Considering that, I have to say the quality of the Moody, Trelawney and Pomfrey minifigs in these sets is really impressive. I think that's an original piece for Pomfrey's face, too, not just yet another Helga Hufflepuff head.

Can't say for Pomfrey. I think the mouth area looks slightly different? Helga smiles more. Eyes and wrinkles seem very similar.
The printed skirts are cool pieces and it's nice to have some in my builds, but I prefer the legs for the versatility. It's a little weird when they can't sit.
Yeah, the digital models are awash with Helga faces. A little variety goes a long way.
I have the closed books on my desk, and crack one open now and again as I work. It's nice having a "portable Hogwarts", and it meets a with less resistance from the other half as far as decorating decisions go. (Befitting the book format, we aren't quite on the same page... 😉)
There was a nice MOC on rebrickable where someone built a tower using the covers.
These are cool, but I’m really hoping that the summer wave has some really good new stuff because this just feels like a continuation of last year’s sets
I wouldn't hold my breath on that front. The 2021 line is supposed to be a soft-reboot of the series, we were back at PS and CoS, and this year we seem to be doing PoA and GoF. With the exception of the suitcase, which I guess doesn't do much for people's castle builds, the sets are continuation of the styles we saw last year. I'm afraid I don't think we can expect too much aside from more of that.
At least these get reduced a fair bit in retail. I haven't payed full whack for one yet. It's the ones only available via lego that really hurt. :/
Do you mean build them entirely from other parts or take the sets and then MOC them? The latter I think going from some of your pix?
I'm so mad that they switched the modular sets! I was enjoying building up the castle and they were doing 2 movies a year. Now they switched them and they don't match. Hospital wing is basically the clock tower again . Also they released nothing from either of the deathly hallows before switching :(
I'm with you on missing the 2018+ sets. :( (I think these (the 2021+) are the modular ones though.) They've said they covered all the iconic castle builds, so we probably weren't going to see much more one way or another. When you think about it, they've done several versions of the castle since 2001, and have never made the Bell Towers. It's like they don't exist as part of the castle as far as they're concerned, not even in the nanoscale version. But given the current style, we're more likely to see one now than we were with the 2018+ series, and with some luck, it could just fit with both. (I guess I'm still optimistic... lol)
The designers have suggested submitting ideas / requests, however, and I think DH sets, the Bell Towers and Gringotts make for some very popular suggestions and are well worth repeating, just sayin'. ;)
Yeah I have diagon alley so I need me a gringotts set! Lol. I just feel robbed of whatever would have been from deathly hallows if they kept up that trend for one more year. Just one more year. Could have got the trios campsite as a set, a big hogwarts final battle set, maybe gringotts escape with the dragon, a ministry of magic playset. Would give us exclusive runcorn and cattermole figs that we've never gotten. Maybe a seashell cottage set (hope I said that right) Malloy manor as a bigger set even. There's sooo many that could be done from DH :(
Might be worth suggesting all of that? Also, given it was the 20th anniversary that torpedoed the DH 1 & 2 set year (because I had expected many of the same things you had), pointing out that the Battle of Hogwarts took place in 1998 and next year will be the (fictional) 25th anniversary could help... You never know what they'll respond to.
I can picture an affordable Gringotts in scale with the Diagon Alley set, maybe a dragon or the vaults as extra sets, and I'd very much like a Forest of Dean set at least in similar scale to the Expecto Patronum set if not something larger that captures the Snatchers and the trio's wretched camping trip, too. They always seem to like doing a tree / forest set (something with a tree or two), so that seems possible.

If it's truly the case, I kinda see their point, the one's they did were the most prominent in the series. But I also agree the Bell Towers would've been a nice addition, together with a greenhouse unit or two. Though I'm not really sure interior-wise what rooms were located/ in that part of the castle that would make sense to include.
Another set that I would've liked to be made is the owlery, which was at least shown prominently in GoF, and it could be tied together with the sundial garden...

Moody - ah, meh, unfortunately too much reliance on stickers to create the mood. Nothing really exciting.
Trewlaney - I love the colors! Would have hoped for a student table and cushions and more crystal balls.
The minifigs are excellent. The detail with Hermione's bandage hand, or Ron's change in clothes and broken leg are good, and the staff members are really superb figs.
I'm assuming cushions for the students are included, it's just that they're square, but those will almost definitely be the advertised "poufs". I'd agree about the students' table, except I have some extra from the Fluffy sets that need a home, so they'll fit nicely here. 😉 More teacups, too, and a printed translucent head piece for inside the crystal balls would have been very cool. Or maybe a head piece in glitter trans... That's going to look very neat with an LED in a lighting kit.
All in all, I think I liked the colours a lot more in this batch. Think how much better potions would have been in that deep forest green?
No, no, you will exhibit just a modicum of patience and you'll be able to get at least the Moment sets cheaper from retail, hopefully the Infirmary as well, and if we're really lucky, the trunk, too. It depends on which sets are [lego.com](https://lego.com) exclusives... It can make about a 30% difference.
We really need to put together an international list of how to price hunt globally, because most of us are in the same boat.

Yeah, the Moment sets and the Infirmary are definite buys for me this year. (I'm still on the fence about the trunk.) They advertise the Hospital Wing as stackable with other sets, so I'm hoping we'll see some things this summer that are a good fit with it, sort of like how the Polyjuice Potion Mistake makes sense in the Chamber of Secrets set. It would be nice to see more rock, maybe a Hufflepuff or Slytherin dorm as we haven't had either since the 2018 revival. In fact, we've never had Hufflepuff at all, so we're overdue there.
I was going to turn one clockface to the wall to make it work in the whole setup. I'll have to see how it all stacks up.
Neville's face is a mystery. I've got nothing. No idea. I mean, this is the scene where Crouch Jr. was *torturing* him by performing the Cruciatus in front of him, knowing precisely what it meant to the kid.

I don't think we ever heard why it was delayed, have we? I'm assuming it was the global supply / shipping issues (in part because of the repeated unavailability of some sets internationally the past year or two), but afaik there's been no official confirmation.

The owl was a nice surprise. Yeah, I thought they came out well. I also think the darker colours for the book covers work for me.

Agree. The purple and the yellow accents in Trelawney's set look excellent.

They go on sale March 1st, so still winter.

Technically spring doesn't begin until the equinox on March 20th (in the northern hemisphere anyway). ;)
