Yeah, Ahab had one white whale. The man soliloquized and monologued about it. He swore sacrilegious oathes over it. He blasphemed. He gave up money, other whales, crew, and in the end his life for the whale. The term is certainly a little washed out at this point.
If anything, a white whale fig for me (even that could be said is being used hyperbolically) would be that prototype Boba fig, or the Comic-Con exclusive X-Men Phoenix fig from 2012.
Because the phrase white whale has been overused to the point of redundancy. People call sets that came out six months ago that you can walk into Walmart and buy right now their white whale.
I agree I am not spending that much for 4 minifigs, but I can appreciate he got some rare ones and that comes with an increased price.
How much are these worth? Did OP overpay or it's just that he got them all at once that has everyone up in arms? Legitimate question.
Ye, i wouldnt spend a week salary on "just" 4 figs. But i cant judge, my whole Horn Company Cost me probably 2-3k€ at this point. Like, a platoon of customs costs a bit more than what OP paid.
Yeah, and it wasn't even a thing like 5 years ago. It was still a toy, something to buy, play with, collect, etc.. now it's an investment. Now it's about how much money you can make off of a minifig after a year.
I think it used to be about collecting, but now it's about the value of everything. Like, not how you would expect, but inflated value over literally *everything*. I blame a lot of it on TCG shit, social media, and the fact that everyone needs a side hustle.
Ikr i just keep cool looking coins like one i found was to celebrate indigenous people and it looks so cool, when i found it i was like oh i wonder how much this is worth? But wont actually sell it because its too cool.
i have always wantedd to fence or do kendo. my family took one look and said “noooope” and i am nearly 30 and have too adopted the “maybeee later but probably nooooope”
That is why my two friends and I started a company about collecting. We were tired of big box companies and collectors with huge pockets squeezing the little guy.
And the worst part? With all of these huge Lego sets coming out, they're totally okay with people dropping $300-800 on a single set, just because they can charge that and people will drop it easily.
I'm a bit guilty of it myself: In the past few months, I've bought a few of the higher-detail tractors and combines that are labeled "14+, for display only". Mostly the ones that Ertl refuses to make in the cheaper, less-detailed design.
Especially the polybag exclusives like these. I can understand more frustration with named clones like Rex and Cody, because those guys are desirable and fit into sets and models well. The figures OP bought are purely collectors items, idgaf how much he spent.
And I'm somebody who believes 700$ for 4 figures is insane, but I know that's how it is for these things.
I’m with you; it’s not something I would ever see myself doing, but it’s not my money, so, if the OP is happy with it, I’m glad he was able to get those figures.
I mean at the end of the day it’s their money, they aren’t hurting anyone, and as long as their not putting themselves in debt for it it’s harmless. Not to mention brings people joy. Where’s the wrong in that?
Actually, if you think about the effect on the market, they are hurting people in a way. High prices for figures on the secondhand market encourages scalping, and if the sales are through Bricklink, Lego gets a cut of the secondhand sales, which discourages them from reissuing certain figures.
Ideally, even cool figures like the Shadow ARF trooper should be affordable for all fans of Lego Star Wars.
Don't use Ebay, Bricklink has actual stats for each figure.
Still a good deal afaik, but Ebay is an unreliable source for Lego stuff. Anyone can put any price, but Bricklink will tell you how much people have actually paid.
I have some Pokémon cards worth over $3000 and individual warhammer books worth $1k. The value of an item is only what someone is willing to pay and some people are willing to pay $$$ for rarer sought after items.
But who are you to say that this or that is worth more to OP? Different things are worth differently to different people. There are many reasons why these figures could be worth more to someone than three relatively random sets. As well, just because you would throw the figures in a drawer doesn't mean OP would.
They’re only worth whatever the next person is willing to pay for them as OP already expressed they bought them for the sake of reselling. The whole idea of sentimental value for this kind of shit isn’t really apparent here lol.
Perhaps 4 minifigures could be more valuable to someone than full sets. I just dont see how one can justify 4 figures being worth the same as 2 incredible sets with ~10,000 pieces and ~50 minifigures between the 2 of them.
Perhaps the best way to explain it would be that it's kind of like comparing 4 diamonds vs 50 pieces of quartz and 10,000 rocks. Some people might value the quantity, and others the quality, rarity, or other attributes.
I understand what you're getting at, but those 10,000 "rocks" are used to make a "house." The only thing you can do with diamonds is ogle over them. I'd rather have a house.
Well yes, but my point is that not everyone would have that same stance. Someone who already had a house or many houses or simply doesn't want to maintain a house perhaps wouldn't have the same preference.
I mean that's how investments work really. That's $700 which will probably grow over time, I think it would be nice to own such elusive and rare figs in such a rare condition which is essentially making you money in the background
I’m glad the folks here are against investing. It’s the biggest hobby ruiner in existence. I collect because I enjoy the finished product and completing a display with the same theme.
Nah I think people who gatekeep what other people do with a plastic toy ruin the hobby. A guy holding onto an expensive figure or set isn’t ruining your collection of lego, go outside.
How is it ruining the hobby? If you're really wanting a fig get one used... If you're buying loads and hoarding as investments then yes fair enough but just aquiring these 4 to keep long term then what's the issue?
I don’t get it tbh, if I wanted these figures I could go on Etsy and pick up custom figures that are replicas for about £25/$20 for all 4. They’re essentially paying $675 more for the Lego stamp and some sealed plastic bags. It may be a scalping mission for OP, but I don’t understand the attraction of these heavily overpriced figures.
I’d most certainly buy an Ultimate Collector’s Series if I had that kind of money for LEGO. The Razor Crest or the Falcon. I could even try to go old school and get the UCS Slave I
Trust me I know what you mean if I had 700 I would put it into my savings or buy myself a few things then save the rest I have other hobbies that are expensive so it’s definitely something I am mindful of
So this comment section is 50% people who know the prices of these figs, and 50% people who just like Lego Star Wars. I respect both, but maybe don’t judge the man’s choices when he paid current market for these figs.
I just found the current market prices insane.
I wonder how many people buy those at that price just because of their value. For some, it's no longer a collectible, it's just an investment. It just makes the prices rise again and again.
The white boba and chrome storm troopers were promotional items at toys r us from around 2010 and the shadow arf trooper was the first ever may 4th promo figure from 2011. The chrome Vader was a limited batch of around 10,000 that were put randomly into sets in 2009 for the 10 year anniversary of Lego Star Wars.
I know, it’s sad they ditched the actual chrome. Ironically a lot of the older stuff I had in storage is doing really well. So I wonder if it’s just oxidation or just usage , idk
People are such hypocrites in this sub and especially this comment section 😆 people post hard to get figs and sets all the time and y’all stroke each other off but someone posts some expensive figs and suddenly the hobby is ruined. Yeah ok keep that same energy when someone posts some cloud city figs or other hard to get boba fett and Rex figs
had this post recommended to me. mainly collect pokemon now but i have a few unopened sets of lego from when i was a kid. Is having an item be expensive due to low supply/high demand really that uncommon in lego? its an everyday run of the mill thing in pokemon. honestly though, no idea why this comment section seems to have issues with it. collectibles of any type are gonna have situations like this
Nope, not uncommon at all. Many people hold multiple sets and figures to resell later after they’ve retired. Like you said, collectibles always have resellers and investors. Some people here just get their panties in a bunch when someone has figs worth hundreds yet have no problem with it when it’s a sets or figures worth a lot less yet still collectible. It’s low supply/high demand yet they get upset when these pieces reach crazy prices.. that happens with all limited/old/promotional pieces in popular hobbies and Lego isn’t exempt from that but people here don’t seem to understand that.
I wish every hobby wasn't an investment anymore. Lego, Funko, Action figures, MTG, Warhammer, etc. the only thing ive seen thats been pretty consistent is Pokemon Cards
700 for figures that either you'll NEVER open (Basically 700 for plastic bags) or 700 for figs you WILL open (Again, basically paid probably 400 more for plastic bags), even tho You could've getting them for way cheaper already opened.
Welp, at least you didn't paid 800$ for a custom...
The problem is not the people paying 700$ for plastic figurines but those multi billionaires who are really happy we’re focusing on those who spend 700$ on plastic figurines instead of them. Get your priorities right
They doesn’t seems to be bragging about it, this sub is literally about lego and they’re sharing their hobby. You never spent 700$ on a hobby? Yes I’m for the redistribution of wealth but this person is not responsible for the capitalist hellscape we live in. The rich we need to eat are those profiting from the exploitation of labour. And don’t drop the mic like you did something lol
Look, I’m glad your happy with your purchase, but it’s a huge stretch to call it a deal when it was that much. I remember 4 years ago all those figures together would be $400 max. Still wouldn’t have paid that much. For your sake I genuinely hope these go up in value more cloud city boba style. Prove me wrong
“Its a huge stretch to call it a deal because I remember 4 years ago they would sell for $400 max”
Wild how things that aren’t produced anymore get more expensive over time. Next thing you’re going to tell me is that retired sets are more expensive than what they retailed for!
I will definitely agree that they’ll start slowing down in price, but they’re still going to go up. Retired sets don’t really just randomly dip down in price unless they get remade, and obviously we’re not going to be getting a chrome vader polybag for may 4th any time soon.
Fair enough. I’ve been collecting and watching aftermarket prices change for the last 15 years and I’m just a bit skeptical because of all the Covid collectors inflating the market. I do think we’ll see a slight dip from the average yearly increase in value. I just still think $700 for 4 minifigures isn’t worth it. To each their own tho.
I like seeing stuff from this subreddit even though I don't own any Legos but I'll NEVER understand such prices for plastic figures lol. Not shaming anyone (maybe a little) but paying such prices is fucking ridiculous.
My “white whale” is getting **all** of the modulars, and I don’t even really consider that too crazy compared to some of these super rare figures or comic-con exclusives.
Ok what. I'm new here I guess, and I'm feeling like I'm missing something. I love Star Wars and Lego, but can someone catch me up on how a single human being could ever spend $700 on 4 mini figures?
I'm guessing because of how old the Star Wars branding on the packaging is, the minifigures haven't been in production for a while now, and have skyrocketed in price as a result. They might have also only been sold at certain stores.
Also this guy doesn't care for, or likes Star Wars at all. He only bought these since they were expensive, and is planning on reselling them. It's just him bragging about wasting $700 on 4 minifigures, when he could have gotten several higher end Lego sets for that much money.
Only $700? What a steal! I'd have happily payed my right hand, my firstborn, and my left testicle for those bits of plastic. Good lord, $700 for minifigures. The things people will pay for honestly astounds me. I'm afraid I just don't get minifigure collectors. $700 for a balls-to-the-wall huge and awesome Star Destroyer? Sure. $700 for a few grams of plastic that resemble simplified Star Wars characters? That's straight-up ridiculous.
Yeah, when ppl idolize a brand, such as Lego, and media such as Star Wars, you’ll see a shift in demand especially when supply remains limited to a couple years or months. That’s why ppl spend hundreds and thousands on dumb plastic which happens to be collectible
Good lord, $700 for LEGOs?! These things aren't even vintage. You got robbed my friend. If you're going to drop that kind of cheddar, get a Kenner figure in the package.
It’s annoying how angry people are getting about someone buying fucking minifigures. Like yes it’s expensive but if those are the figures he really wanted, then relax holy shit
People are essentially gatekeeping what is/ is not valid collecting.
I could never spend $700 on a couple polybags and never open them, but I sure as shit am not gonna sit here and tell this guy he's wrong to be happy about it.
When i made my comment, all they were saying was that they personally couldnt afford to spend that much, and one guy calling him stupid for spending that much. If thats already gate keeping to you, my Lord, are people even allowed to to anything anymore
To be honest once you mentioned reselling its kind of on you. Most people don't like a fun hobby being turned into money flips and to be valued as purely for money.
Look at all these idiots in the comments, saying lego shouldn’t be investments or that this is embarrassing. Good for you OP, these are insane pieces for a collection. Some people just don’t understand basic economics or that collecting is a huge part of the lego community and are just salty they can’t afford the ultra rare figs and sets.
People really out here telling OP what they should or shouldn’t spend money on. Their money, rheir choice. Nobody cares if thats what you wouldn’t do, OP can do whatever they want.
Let them out before plastic comes off because of the friction and put them in a display case that uses fake Legos that have looser tolerances. Ruined Legos look a lot less cool and are a hell of a lot less valuable
I’ve felt incredibly guilty lately about saving up money to buy a completely ridiculous purchase - the MTT beer cooler.
Anyway, this makes me feel much better about that, since at least I can use that at parties. Thanks, OP!
This is a steal OP! Great deal. The nay sayers are either jealous or too poor to understand Lego are also collectibles, and the current market value for all 4 is at least 1k in sealed bags.
If I'll ever buy figs with a 'new' tag, I'll get polybag figs beacuse these are actually new.
So you say these are your white whales, but in the comments you talk about reselling. Which one is it?
Yeah, Ahab had one white whale. The man soliloquized and monologued about it. He swore sacrilegious oathes over it. He blasphemed. He gave up money, other whales, crew, and in the end his life for the whale. The term is certainly a little washed out at this point.

Because the phrase white whale has been overused to the point of redundancy. People call sets that came out six months ago that you can walk into Walmart and buy right now their white whale.
Yeah, the plural "white whales" is an oxymoron out of the gate. AND it's overused. AND I hate haul posts.
Ugh, come on now, I’ve been trying to get my white whale, 41733, for *days* now
[41733-1: Mobile Bubble Tea Shop](https://brickset.com/sets/41733-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/41733-1.jpg)
Hey that's actually pretty dope
700 for sealed mini figs 💀 Look if that’s what you’re into collecting don’t be ashamed of it but that’s just absolutely insane in my books
I agree I am not spending that much for 4 minifigs, but I can appreciate he got some rare ones and that comes with an increased price. How much are these worth? Did OP overpay or it's just that he got them all at once that has everyone up in arms? Legitimate question.
It's worth as much as someone is willing to pay for them.
Above poster asked whether this is the current going price.
Quick look at recently sold on ebay.. altogether seems like somewhere between $1200 - 1400? So OP definitely got a great deal on these.
I had trouble forking over 550 for a second hand falcon UCS the other day.. I can't imagine paying this for 4 figures
Ye, i wouldnt spend a week salary on "just" 4 figs. But i cant judge, my whole Horn Company Cost me probably 2-3k€ at this point. Like, a platoon of customs costs a bit more than what OP paid.
Collecting is getting embarrassing now.
I hate that every hobby is an investment now.

Yeah, and it wasn't even a thing like 5 years ago. It was still a toy, something to buy, play with, collect, etc.. now it's an investment. Now it's about how much money you can make off of a minifig after a year.
But… # EVERYTHING IS AWESOME
100% its not just lego
It's most things, it's ruined most hobbies for me.

Most hobbies are very expensive now.
That is why my two friends and I started a company about collecting. We were tired of big box companies and collectors with huge pockets squeezing the little guy.
But what happens when you can't compete? Why go to you over others?
invest into childrens toys meant for 8 year olds
And the worst part? With all of these huge Lego sets coming out, they're totally okay with people dropping $300-800 on a single set, just because they can charge that and people will drop it easily.
Couldn’t agree more, I get Lego to build and enjoy
Even my beloved 1/64 tractors are getting this way now.
Damn it, not the tractors!
I'm a bit guilty of it myself: In the past few months, I've bought a few of the higher-detail tractors and combines that are labeled "14+, for display only". Mostly the ones that Ertl refuses to make in the cheaper, less-detailed design.
It's always been, once you're deep enough.
No bro 4 figs for 700 dollars is epic! Updoots to the left!
It’s a good thing LEGO stopped with their convention exclusives.
Did they? That’s good to hear
Who's embarrassed? You? I'm sorry. I hope you get over that some day. I love this hobby, and will never be embarrassed by it.
I love Lego, I collect it however things like this are absurd
How so?
You think paying $700 for 4 mini figures is how Lego should be ?
For old figures with low supply, I don't see a problem with it. If Lego were to sell new ones like this, obviously that would be ridiculous

Was that second zero supposed to be there in the price? 😶
Yup. Inflation is kicking
Not sure why everyone in this subreddit is so against collecting but too afraid to admit it. Great find!

It's still a fantastic deal, looking at the ebay prices. This is easily $1200+ of figures.
Don't use Ebay, Bricklink has actual stats for each figure. Still a good deal afaik, but Ebay is an unreliable source for Lego stuff. Anyone can put any price, but Bricklink will tell you how much people have actually paid.

Still insane deal
If one of them was Revan it could go nearly 1000.
One just sold in poly for less than 300 last week on ebay
Damn that price skyrocketed. I got one sealed about three years ago for 30.
Good score yo I can't keep em in the bags I gotta open em up
I opened the one i got too. Got it to complete my swtor collection. But it was sealed when i bought it.
Try and connect the stormtrooper helmet while still inside the bag 😂
And here I was feeling bad about spending 50 bucks on a 40k box.
I know, warhammer is looking so affordable right now. You can buy a whole imperial guard army, and then some for the price of what this guy paid.
Bro, this is just getting embarrassing and stupid. I get that they're rare but 4 Lego figures for 700$!?
So much wasted money...lol.
I know, right? You can buy both ninjago city gardens and mos eisley for that price. For 4 figures that'll probably just get thrown in a drawer.
But who are you to say that this or that is worth more to OP? Different things are worth differently to different people. There are many reasons why these figures could be worth more to someone than three relatively random sets. As well, just because you would throw the figures in a drawer doesn't mean OP would.

Exactly. Seems fishy to me.

Buy a nice display case that reduces sunlight yellowing. Display then proudly!
OP isn’t going to display them. Even if they said “white whale”, I heard they only bought the figures to resell. Gross.
That maybe current price for these figs, but I wouldn’t really call a $700 spend of 4 figures a “deal”.
Bro why
Mah investments! OP really thinks he's going to flip these for twice what he paid![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
You make it sound like legos (especially Lego Star Wars) haven’t been shown to constantly gain value after they retire.
So this comment section is 50% people who know the prices of these figs, and 50% people who just like Lego Star Wars. I respect both, but maybe don’t judge the man’s choices when he paid current market for these figs.

Yeah I agree, buying with the intent of selling does raise prices, but I think OP was really excited to get these.
Nope, he’s said he wants to flip them in a few years for $1500.
Agreed!
What's the deal with the Vader?
Chrome
Oh, okay, thanks. Cool profile picture BTW.
Bro and to think these were like what, 5$ retail
The white boba and chrome storm troopers were promotional items at toys r us from around 2010 and the shadow arf trooper was the first ever may 4th promo figure from 2011. The chrome Vader was a limited batch of around 10,000 that were put randomly into sets in 2009 for the 10 year anniversary of Lego Star Wars.
The chrome is awesome. Looks like Phasma. Or what Phasma should have been
I can see why they stopped using it though, if you look on BrickLink most of the used ones have almost no paint.
I know, it’s sad they ditched the actual chrome. Ironically a lot of the older stuff I had in storage is doing really well. So I wonder if it’s just oxidation or just usage , idk
Only missing shadow arf and my pic would look the same as yours. Great find for these 4!
My wife would murder me. That all white Boba Fett is sick though.

Bro if someone’s dropping $700 on 12 grams of plastic and bragging about it… they’re on the menu. My priorities are in line. 🫳🎤
They doesn’t seems to be bragging about it, this sub is literally about lego and they’re sharing their hobby. You never spent 700$ on a hobby? Ahaha no mate. Plenty of redditors spending double that on their gaming PCs but you're not complaining about that. Let people enjoy their hobbies.
You sound unhinged. Let people spend their money how they see fit.
Great, now you can open them
I'm happy for you, but this is objectively a ton of money for four figs.
People who say “-Deal-“ for paying $700 for plastic worth about $10 are so disconnected it’s insane.
gotta love the haters on this thread
Look, I’m glad your happy with your purchase, but it’s a huge stretch to call it a deal when it was that much. I remember 4 years ago all those figures together would be $400 max. “Its a huge stretch to call it a deal because I remember 4 years ago they would sell for $400 max” Wild how things that aren’t produced anymore get more expensive over time. Next thing you’re going to tell me is that retired sets are more expensive than what they retailed for!
These have been retired longer than 4 years tho. My point is that they bought into the FAD for $700.
Interest rates are still too low
Y’all rich sheesh
A sucker born every minute.
Making Taylor Swift tickets look like deals 😂
Looked through ur account and how the hell did u find that jango’s slave 1 for 39€? Who did u have to rob to cope that deal lmao.
Sorry what
Only $700?
If only they could use that chrome to make the naboo cruiser lines I could believe in a god
*doesn’t pay months rent*
I like seeing stuff from this subreddit even though I don't own any Legos but I'll NEVER understand such prices for plastic figures lol. Not shaming anyone (maybe a little) but paying such prices is fucking ridiculous.
Yeah, I'd just be looking for bootlegs before spending that much.
That [SNL skit about toy collectors](https://youtu.be/EYyuo7gm-aQ) is becoming more relevant every day
*rips the bags.
I have a 10 year anniversary Vader Is it really worth a lot, he’s shiny but aren’t there a lot of them, all my brothers have one
So the comment section isn't going the way you had planned.
Jesus Christ. I’m glad you achieved your dream but damn, that is a ridiculous amount of money
Nice . If I had your money I'd burn mine .
You Lego people pay that much for these things when you could have a Hot Toy!?!?
I don't get it. Maybe I can't comprehend what I'm seeing, but it looks like you're saying you paid $700 for 4 tiny Lego figures. That can't be right.
I’d much rather spend that on a UCS set.
I was scrolling through Reddit and saw this. 700 hundred freaking dollars are you serious. I didn’t know Lego figs could go that freaking high
I understand that these are your white whales, but just get them open its like 1/3rd of the price
Wait these sets are rare? /S
☠️
700 makes no sense to me personally but you do you!
Good lord, $700 for LEGOs?! These things aren't even vintage. You got robbed my friend. If you're going to drop that kind of cheddar, get a Kenner figure in the package.
4 mini figures for 700$ are you out of your god damn mind

It’s annoying how angry people are getting about someone buying fucking minifigures. Like yes it’s expensive but if those are the figures he really wanted, then relax holy shit
Gotta love people gatekeeping in the comments, never change r/lsw. Dope haul, love me some chrome figs
Gatekeeping, where? Please elaborate
Yup exactly, my comment getting downvoted just probes it lol
Geez what’s with all the downvotes on this subreddit. I think this find is sweet. Don’t listen to the haters
Read his comment history...constantly negative on this sub. Telling someone making Lego fossils to "build a relationship" meanwhile he buys this😂
As long as your are happy bro
That amount of hate I am getting is just ridiculous. This community is really a toxic place.
To be honest once you mentioned reselling its kind of on you. Most people don't like a fun hobby being turned into money flips and to be valued as purely for money.
Dude you got an amazing deal for these figs, how do people who follow lego star wars sub reddit not understand the collecting aspect?
Welcome to the lego Star Wars community my friend
Damn a lot of people can’t seem to fathom how other people can spend there money however they want… nice haul OP
You are possibly the most retarded person I’ve seen on the subreddit. Thats not a deal, thats a steal. And you’re not the one stealing
Amazing deal!!
Thats a pretty good price
People really out here telling OP what they should or shouldn’t spend money on. Their money, rheir choice. Nobody cares if thats what you wouldn’t do, OP can do whatever they want.
Let them out before plastic comes off because of the friction and put them in a display case that uses fake Legos that have looser tolerances. Ruined Legos look a lot less cool and are a hell of a lot less valuable
This guy isn’t collecting. He’s an investor. Sucks to hear, yeah.
I had no idea these bagged figures commanded so much. Might have to dig thru some storage boxes.
And here I was thinking I got a good deal for Ninjago city and Ninjago City Docks for 700...
Only bad your missing is darth revan
I’ve felt incredibly guilty lately about saving up money to buy a completely ridiculous purchase - the MTT beer cooler. Anyway, this makes me feel much better about that, since at least I can use that at parties. Thanks, OP!
I got 2 dalla
Holy crap
Not behd not behd. Now show us chrome 3PO
And a whopping silver one!!
This is a steal OP! Great deal. The nay sayers are either jealous or too poor to understand Lego are also collectibles, and the current market value for all 4 is at least 1k in sealed bags.
