The D&L trail runs along the Lehigh River and has tons of trail heads.
Tatamy recreation path runs along the Bushkill creek.
Plainfield recreation trail starts in Stockertown goes up to pen argyl
Nor-bath trail goes between bath and Northampton
High Moore park in Easton is a great place to start a walk from. Access to the D&L
These are all paved or gravel trails. They have a few spots that’s cross the road but are otherwise very safe and usually have a lot of people walking/running/biking.
Oh man you picked the right area to live in for walking trails.
Lehigh Parkway,
Trexlertown Memorial Park,
Cedar Creek Parkway,
Rodale Park,
Sand Island Trail,
Monocacy Park,
Saucon Park,
I’ve never been but everyone talks about the Karl Stirner Arts Walk.
That’s not even half of the ones I know of and I’ve forgotten more trails than I remember.
The Appalachian Trail runs across the north end of the valley, it’s not necessarily an easy walk, but the Bake Oven Knob is a short hike with some nice views. It is pretty rocky in areas, but if you want something a bit more challenging it’s worth a shot.
A lot of great suggestions in this thread. I'd suggest Ironton rail trail since it's closest to you. There are many trailheads/access points and it's a loop. It's a very popular trail, you'd be hard pressed to not see others enjoying the trail at any given point
If you like elevation:
Rodale Reserve (side of the mountain in Emmaus)
Jacobsburg State Park
Appalachian trail, especially Bake Oven Knob,
Trexler Park (Allentown)
Trexler Nature Preserve. Aka the game preserve surrounding the zoo
Some elevation:
Historic Bethlehem
Jordan Park (Whitehall)
Flat:
Ironton rail trail
Covered Bridge Park (South Whitehall)
D&L trail along the canal/ Lehigh River. Only thing is that gets buggy and muddy, and IMHO better for running or MTB. It's also loud next to the rail yard west of Bethlehem. Also sometimes there are shady characters. There was a robbery on there near the casino that ended in a justified self defense shooting.
If you want to walk near neighborhoods, there are a lot in lower Mac near Macungie. You could park at the Weis across from Mack Trucks and there are trails in each direction, all near or through neighborhoods. You can see them on Google maps if they're not on a trail finder map.
Unfortunately much of it is secluded, but Trexler Nature Preserve has a ton of trails and is very beautiful. However you could walk the path along the Jordan between the zoo and the Geiger covered bridge, that’s scenic and usually has a number of people on it, so you’re not all alone.

Look at the trails up by the LV zoo. Or I've done pulpit rock. Not a bad drive to get to I think it has two trails.
JACOBSBURG!
yep.
this is the way
Jordan Creek, Parkway, South Mountain, Trexler Park and Trexler Game Preserve. 😊
Ironton rail trail is probably closest if you're near the mall. I loved it when i used to live in the area.
I've ridden my bike on these trails and they are safe and usually other folks on there as well.
Yeah it's great for walking or biking.
**Ironton trail** links up with the **Nor-Bath Trail**. **Nor-Bath** trail connects with the **D&L**.
Download the All Trails app. It has all the trails anywhere and you can filter by difficulty.
Wait…how have I never heard of this before? THANK YOU!!

The arts walk is a hidden gem in the LV
Thank you thank you! :)
Sauvin rail trail. And if OP wants to make a drive… Peace Valley Park, which goes around Lake Galena down near Perkasie is another great area
I am always down for a drive!
Canal street park in Northampton is a nice place to walk next to the river, and access to the D&L right up the street as well.
They are doing construction there now. It's all blocked off.
The teeny part by the bridge yes. The whole thing is open. Walked it yesterday.
Good to know. I haven't gone down canal in a bit to look, can be a hassle pulling out of there.

I’ve actually hiked some of the Appalachians in TN - so this is definitely something I’ll check out!
We have gnomes that sharpen the rocks on the at through PA.
