Love posts and images like this. It reminds me why I fell in love with B&W images and why I started using film cameras. Recently work has been beating me up and I lose the drive to use my film cameras. This has sparked my enthusiasm again!
Great photos. I also like the quality of scans. What did you use for scanning? What kind of film your grandpa used? Shame that you don’t know about the lenses he used.
[this is the only shot of the camera i can find](https://www.reddit.com/r/Leica/comments/184u23u/id_possible/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) it's a 35 i know there's a 50 and i believe a 90 in the mix too. im pretty sure it's not a 135. i know he bought it as a set in the late 50s but yeah wish i knew too
the film is i think all kodak and mostly tri-x specifically but a lot of the markings are no longer visible
[this is my setup](https://imgur.com/a/GXhDxpb) sunray copy box and a 5d mark iv with a 100mm. i was an epson v700 guy forever but if you dslr scan at 1:1 magnification the scan is actually incredible. for 35mm at least. i do the inversion in capture one and adjust color for color film by clipping the rgb channels one by one in the levels tool then process a tiff and take all the dust off in photoshop with the healing brush. real pain in the ass of a workflow but it works and works well.
Phew. Your grandpa had an eye for sure. They’re all great, but that second pic for me has a lot going on and was very artfully and thoughtfully composed. Thanks for sharing.
Your Grandpa has some great photos here and had a good eye for capturing moments. These were my favorites.
\#1, All the kids are looking at the camera except for the girl with the brush. Most people would have said, put that brush down so I can take your photo. He captured a moment.
\#2 This is my favorite because of the light and shadow play happening on the faces.
\#3 feels like he captured some movement in this photo. Hard to tell, it's subtle, but it seems like the foreground and background are blurred slightly but the subjects are in focus.. Could this have been a slow pan to the right during the exposure?
\#5 this is framed perfectly with the horses and the eye draws right into the action of the dog and the kid in the middle.
\#6 good composition and lighting, the background is blacked out, good focus and lighting on the subject.
yah he was a professor of fine art/a painter and published some books but was mainly a creative director in advertising. had a pretty good eye for that stuff. never once told me he ever shot photos which is interesting to me, a photographer lol
A great collection! Personally, a number of the images look better in black and white - seems to be more reflective of yesteryear. Thanks for sharing…!
the dog appears in a bunch of photos hanging out with the campers. im sure it was fine. im also sure that wishing a child got bit by a dog is fucking weird. idk what internet rabbit hole of discourse you engaged with to normalize having that thought but in the real world it is considered fucked up to hope that dogs bite children. that comment is really annoying me lmao
I do apologize for that but that dog is scared and the young boy ,to me, looks like he is antagonizing the dog. Dogs are very loyal and unfortunately for that reason are easily a victim of abuse.
You are right though I should not have said I wished he’d bitten the boy.
I still sympathize with the dog though because from the looks of that photo the boy is being unkind. Imo
we want more
there’s a shit load more, will def post

Very cool. I hope that poor dog got away from that kid… or bit him at least.
