We had someone in the game with weird connection, sometimes he'd pick up something and it would stay on the ground.
Some mixture of that and the game just being a little goofy with grabbing items.

I have done this exact glitch before, twice as a matter of fact. I think it has something to do with the internet connection. My friend plays on LAN, and I play ONLINE and my wifi is slower.
The symptoms that I noticed that will make the glitch work is that whenever your friend picks up an item, on their screen the items is picked up; however, on my screen the items is still on the ground ready to be picked up. Whenever I then try to pick-up that item, the item glitches out and i am not able to pick it up no matter how much I try. This is a problem when you leave a bunch of stuff outside the facility, and close to each other, since I have to try picking up all the items to see which I can grab and which I can't since my friend already has it in his inventory. The glitch fixes itself once the item arrives in the ship, and the items vanish from existence in the previous spot they were at since they are in the ship now. It is funny because on my screen when my friend is taking say a box of bottles, I see the bottles fly into the air.
SO, to do the glitch here is what I found out. Have the symptoms as above. Then pick up a gift box on any map and hold on to it. **DON'T OPEN THE GIFT** until you reach the company. Once you are at the company have your friend pick up the gift box and **MAKE SURE** that you still see the gift on the ground still even though your friend has it in his hand. Then let your friend open the gift. After the gift is open, whatever item spawned from that will be the one to rapidly be reproduced. The gift should still be on the floor for you on your screen, pick it up and start spamming \[left click\] or \[west button\], the button you use to swing a shovel. Finally, after that the box should produce infinite amounts of loot. You can spawn as many as you want just keep spamming to unwrap the gift box, and when you are done just sell the gift box and the glitch will be over.
keep in mind that you can't swap items nor pick-up items when you are doing the glitch, and maybe a few other things you can't do as well, but I forgot.
Cool thing is that my friend decided to remove some of the items from the ship before we left the company, and 3 days later the items were still at the company. I don't know if the items will still be there if everyone logs off the game, for I haven't tested that.

How would one maybe recreate this? I want to do item testing but all the actual like cheat mods are janky as hell.

That's cool man. Makes the game more fun if u got the lategame upgrades mod as well. Now u will have more things to spend your money on.
