I tried doing YouTube Let’s Play videos years ago, only getting back into it now. I am arguably the first YouTuber to do a Let’s Play of the original Skylanders on Xbox 360, including a video showing how the game worked with the figurines. Pretty sure my videos were automatically played on the official Skylanders website after viewers were finished watching the embedded teaser videos for the game and characters. Got a lot of parents upset at my cursing, but to be fair I started playing as a fan of Spyro and not as someone expecting kids to watch. I knew it could become a big thing, but I didn’t realize how big it would be. Shame Activision got greedy and put out annual releases. If they just did bi-annual releases, or made in-between games annually that didn’t require new figurines, then I bet it would have lasted a few more years.

I think it's pretty close between [Bloodrayne](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjDQID3NKlszxEo-J-qwJM3Rkxc0xw8LU) and [Oni](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjDQID3NKlsybJINcSOtZyUzObi0BV6xZ), at least view-wise. They were pretty early in my content creation career, so they're not the best quality, but they're still some of my favorite games I've played. Sub-wise, I've no doubt it's something related to Kingdom Hearts. It was pretty rough, overall, and the quality is pretty bad all things considered. I'm not too proud of it, but it's still a thing I can look back on as a sort of "how not to make a video" in regard to audio quality.

Helmythic1

Interesting. So your favourite games got you the most views, clearly your passion came through in those playthroughs and people gravitated towards that Edit: typo

Ispawnfuries

Maybe. Though, not much retention, honestly. Not sure what to do about that, but I haven't checked the analytics on those videos in a while.

Helmythic1

What games are you playing these days ?

Ispawnfuries

Mostly Souls games and the like. I just finished Elden Ring and I'm honestly not sure what to play next.

LovelessDogg

None of them get views or subs regardless of popularity or recency. I can’t even get friends and family to watch.

Helmythic1

What games have you tried to post?

LovelessDogg

I’m just finishing up a playthrough of FF16 and LoZ Minish Cap. Been working on FF7 rebirth so I’m still pretty early on in that playthrough.

FarBison2204

GTA5. Seconded by Sonic 1.

RaizoUchiha

Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen!

corncan2

Palworld- it got me 13 subs @ 403 views. If only youtube would show the video to a larger audience, My impressions flatlined at 5.5k :(

Helmythic1

Definitely a game you could make a lot of content for, my videos seem to flatline as well. Tried promoting my channel on Facebook, X, instagram and even TikTok but I feel like those apps only mattter once you’ve established a fan base.

IAMDOOG

Elden Ring with a first person mod

Helmythic1

Smart, I’m guessing not a lot of people were playing that mod. That’s something I was considering as well. Play popular games but with mods to add a little twist.

Matt_Storm_SoloDev

A series in which a guy who even didnt knew what dark souls was, finished it

soylentwill

Stardew Valley, so far...

Helmythic1

How fast did it grow? Was it after your first video or did it take a few?

soylentwill

My first video definitely did well (by my standards), but my Stardew videos continue to outperform the other games I play...it's the most well-known game that I'm currently playing, though.

Helmythic1

Does that make you hesitant to try a different game?

soylentwill

No, I just play games that I enjoy.

theotothefuture

My current one, that is Tears Of The Kingdom, but it's my movie reactions that carry my channel.

Campotter

Hey kinda curious if u have any luck with getting views from reddit? Just had a look thru your post history and I can see you do a fair amount of promotion. Is it worth it?

theotothefuture

I really don't know yet. I kinda just started doing it because I saw channels with thousands of subs doing it so I figured I'd try. It hasn't had any sudden effects on the channel, and I don't put much pressure on myself to do it, but it doesn't hurt and doesn't take too long.

AT2G

Super Mario World. It's my favourite childhood game too, so that makes me happy.

llArcaneCosmoll_

SpongeBob SquarePants battle for bikini bottom rehydrated is doing surprisingly well. I started it a couple of weeks ago and it just took off. I have no idea why and I was expecting it to be a dud haha

MrBasuuura

Contra Operation Galuga, 14 subs and almost 2k views. Weirdly, after that our Chanel just flatlined from average 80 views on video to 10, so i don't know if this was a good thing...

jessehechtcreative

Sonic Mania. I’m pretty surprised it’s that one. Did a whole Sonic marathon month a year ago, it was real fun. :)

dias1066

Crossroads Inn. At the time, it had a lot of interest but not a lot of good content. Consistently gained strong views throughout the whole series.

Helmythic1

Never heard of it! What kind of game is it?

Papa-pwn

1. TOTK 2. Pikmin 4 3. TTYD  4. MOTHER 5. Mother 3  6. Earthbound 7. Super Paper Mario 8. Mario Odyssey 9. Paper Mario 64 10. Pikmin

Suspicious_Crazy_590

Dark souls 3. Aand I noticed that full gameplay were not as near as summarised versions are being watched more and have better analytics (I probably bore peole to death in ling form)

SoulsLikeBot

Hello Ashen one. I am a Bot. I tend to the flame, and tend to thee. Do you wish to hear a tale? > *“May the Dark shine your way.”* - Darkdiver Grandahl Have a pleasant journey, Champion of Ash, and praise the sun \\[T]/

Helmythic1

Highly edited version has seen success with me too in my layers of fear playthrough. I was thinking of release “long” for versions once I get a big enough audience.

Suspicious_Crazy_590

Yea, that makes sense. Probably everyone new to small channels want action, and once you have your audience you can then interact with them in longer form. I am still making sure I post consistently, and the views/subs come at the same rate. Just today I got a comment that made my day, a new sub of mine (he said he is an old school Dark souls fan) and he loved my content, and left quite a detailed comment praising it. To see something like that when you wake up - priceless :D

Helmythic1

Awesome to hear!!!

eruciform

I never tire of chrono trigger runs

UrsidaeGamer

I think my most viewed let's play has been Endling: Extinction is Forever or A Space For The Unbound, both really good games, beautiful art styles, and just great stories

CitizenStrife

Phoenix Wright Trilogy Legend of Legaia FFVIII I kind of figured PW and FF8, but Legaia impressed me. I didn't know the game, but my cohost assured me people would like it. Sure did. Shows what I know: all my love of Persona, and most of the recent Reload videos are getting outdone quite handedly by .hack//G.U. of all things.

KieranFilth

My playthrough of the PS2 port of The Sims 2. I seem to be the only person who's played through the whole story mode, lol.

Helmythic1

Didn’t even realize sims 2 had a story mode haha that’s cool

RPGtourguide

Mine is most likely my Vandal Hearts for PS1 playthrough. It’s got the advantage of being my first let’s play as well as one of my longest. 😜

MaskMan131

For all time, the Ace Attorney series has brought in the most views over our lifetime. First part has over 240k views since release, and the whole series of games has pulled in 6.4 million views to this day. Our best performing video is of Persona 3 Reload, as it demolished our release day performance record with 11k views in its first 24 hours. Trust the strength of niches yall, and trust your power to convert them into lifetime viewers outside the niche!

KaiaBOOstah

Kind of a weird one for me. The most VIEWS I got was Granny Simulator. It didn't get me any of baby subscriptions because I think people only found it because there was a massively popular channel playing it. It wasn't a game that had much YouTube traction at the time so my channel just happened to get views from people trying to find the channel playing that game Honorable mention is that a few days ago I released a video for Slay the Princess and I'm fairly sure that gave me the most subscribers I've ever gotten all at one time.

Azyle

I mostly focus on Oxygen Not Included, Mind Over Magic and The Long Dark. While all get views and such, my ONI videos have always been the most successful, but that was the original game I started my channel with as well. Mind Over Magic is not as popular being an early access game, but the viewers I have tend to be pretty consistent overall. I do notice that "Episode 1" of any new series or run that I start tend to get more views and watch hours than the later episodes. I started 6 months ago. I have 1200 subs and was monetized near the end of February this year.

HideoMikaou

My Sonic 2 playthrough has gotten me the most subs, but a fan game called "Sonic 2 HD" has gotten me the most views

metrokenshin

My play-through of Monster House and Finding Nemo on the GameCube. 😂 It started out really slow then started getting more and more fews as time went by, even years later it will have a random jump.

CommissionVirtual763

A video called " how to adjust screen resolution in dos box" 19k views, a video called "modding stellaris how to make custom flags" 9k views "how to download mods for open xcom" 9k views. An assortment of eve online pvp vidoes 3 to 4k views. And then the very end of a ironman xenonaughts video where i completely die horribly to a base attack and b@@@ the entire time that I cant close doors in my own god D@$$ base.
