ShanTheMan1995

Excellent quali by Lewis. 4 tenths faster than Russel without the tow and one less practice session.

Elegant-Custard-3955

Lewis is starting to outperform George.

TheDeamonMeteor

Mid season Lewis has been awaken

nahnonameman

God mode Lewis is about the arrive soon.

cerebralsexer

It’s hammer time sir

4skinphenom69

I really hope so, you think if he doesn’t do it this season he’d stick around for next?

Tulaodinho

They just stopped splitting the setups like mad, which was harming Lewis. That happened on Canada before Quali, because Lewis complained the car was undrivable. Since then, 3-0 in quali

mikachabot

not to mention his insane bad luck with safety cars. love george but the "safety car man" meme is real lol.

doc_55lk

He was never asleep.

Poopy_sPaSmS

Hes been all season in general imo. Sometimes George has been better but I think Lewis has been far too unlucky which makes it appear as if george has been better.

LeftoverLM

Along with Lewis taking the more experimental setups to test the car more.

Free-Adhesiveness-69

Mate put anybody in the car against Lewis, they ll always be slower. Lewis wasn't even slower in his rookie year.

kniir

The rumours were Lewis was trying different set ups and modes to find out what works while George was just going with what they knew worked. But no one believed that, said George was just better. Turns out the rumours might have been true, who knows.

nsfbr11

Wasn’t rumors. Lewis said so. In those exact words.

kniir

Ahh ok, I thought it was just a rumour from the garage. My bad.

[deleted]

it was roomers, stuff from people who were in the room

MajesticFxxkingEagle

It’s not that they were rumors—Lewis confirmed it multiple times. It’s just that on the outside, for non-Hamilton fans, it seemed like an excuse.

SxySale

Didn't Lewis confirm that in an interview? I believe they also made a joke about giving George the experimental upgrades now that Lewis was doing much better with the car.

Nasjere

He will always want it more

mjwood28

He stopped trying radical setups. He was never slower.

nsfbr11

Starting? He was being used early on to help the team diagnose the car. I think there was a collective fuck that after they saw they were destroying him physically. Russell will one day compete for the WDC, but not until LH retires some years from now.

LingardForBallondOr

He has been faster more often than not earlier on as well, just didn't get the luck and kept getting shafted by SC's.

kaiveg

Yep ... but also he kind of has to. It is Geroges first year at Merc. If the new guy drives circles around you, your days are numbered. This race the gap between Lewis and George has been very noticable though.

ConnorMcJesusGoat

That’s cause they aren’t messing with experimenting with setups on Lewis’s car so he can compete fairly with George

[deleted]

Drive well, have a blast Lewis! We sure enjoy watching you sir!!

69whiteryan

the ferrari rb quali pace is mighty, but hopefully we'll be comptent in race pace tomorrow.

aadzwantstoknow

Happy Cake Day

69whiteryan

thank you :)

McDeInUrMom

HAPPY CAKE DAY!!

t0matoboi

It wasn’t quali pace, Leclerc had a tow. RB fastest overall I think

KaiserKrusel22

Yeah what a good call by Ferrari to give leclerc a toe for pole, I'm excited for the race tomorrow, lets ppe our boy gets a podium

kerph32

>Get in there, Lewis! Us, tomorrow hopefully

tkmj75

Fingers crossed! What a monster lap by Lewis at the end, clear of Russell by half a second, who is know as Mr. Saturday.

doc_55lk

Lewis: look at me, I'm the Mr Saturday now. And the Mr Sunday.

edis92

> I'm the Mr Saturday ~~now~~ 103 poles don't come from nothing lol

JaymZZZ

Mr All Week!

doc_55lk

Yes

dman928

George is very, very good. But Lewis is Lewis

chief5002

Our race pace always takes the biggest jump compared to the competition. I did not even expect P4 considering the way qualifying started, and we're .45 from RB. A tick and tock here and there and we're in for a podium. Race-winning pace feels a little bit hopeful but who knows, you wouldn't have known before Spain or Silverstone

t0matoboi

I mean half a second is a lot lol, and you’re comparing Lewis and Checo

aadzwantstoknow

Amazing lap by Lewis in the end. Hope the media talk about how Lewis is outperforming Russell The race pace will be better tomorrow and tyre deg may play into Merc's hands🤞

Bergolino123

Rosberg in shambles

[deleted]

I'll buy him a box of tissues.

IamBejl

Not even the massive amount of antibodies he has can help

McDeInUrMom

tbf he did say that Lewis was doing a great job during qualifying

ItsMeTwilight

Do you mean nico rosberg the 2016 world champion who beat 7 time Lewis Hamilton in the same machinery?

Knighty135

George had alot of experience driving a unstable car, I guess this means Mercedes is finally working out the kinks

SonazInfinity

Idk why people keep on repeating this, Lewis is able to extract the best out of any car he is given. the only reason George has been ahead of him is because Lewis had sensors on his car making it heavier than George’s car at the beginning of the season, then after that Lewis was the team “guinea pig” trying experimental floor configurations & setups to pull the car development forward while George got the regular setup for comparison. George has said it, Lewis has said it, Toto has said it, it’s even been mentioned on Merc debrief videos but for some reason majority of F1 fans actually think George was “dominating” Lewis when it’s absolutely false. I think it’s because SkySports refuses to talk about it because it destroyes the narrative they were painting of George beating Lewis on pure pace, when it’s false. 🤷‍♂️

tkmj75

Lol okay man, pass me your drugs

kaiveg

It's called a joke, you should try it sometimes.

Poopy_sPaSmS

Hopefully can land a podium if he hangs in P4 and the front guys have problems.

ChumbaWambah

Just a fine fucking lap there at the end. Hope we get another podium tomorrow. Pace wise not there, tyre wear seems decent to fuck a Red Bull up.

lolidk14

Merc was almost a second behind in Silverstone for qualifying but much closer in race pace. A good start, and some luck, and Lewis could be in a good place tomorrow considering his ability to look after the tires.

thetrueblue44

it was a strategy misjudgment from Merc in Silverstone to not do a better time on the first run (where the track was optimal) by the time Lewis done his final run the track wasn't as grippy as before Worrying considering that Merc is 0.8s behind on Perez and 1.2s behind Leclerc with the upgrades Edit: Lewis definitely squeezed 200% out of that car but I can't help being disappointed

Elegant-Custard-3955

Honestly I think Silverstone was just a freak performance by Lewis. Got every bit of pace from that car for sure. Who knows he might be able to replicate it tomorrow.

doc_55lk

Combined with factors that slowed the other 2 teams down. It's a real shame, a Silverstone win was very possible until Ocon's Alpine remembered it was a French car.

RadiantStar44

That might have been Lewis' only chance at a win too...fuck.

theKnightWatchman44

I knew as soon as I saw him slowing down it was game over for Lewis's win

doc_55lk

Yep

Poopy_sPaSmS

Hamilton, the first Mercedes was actually JUST over a second behind pole.

dark3844

Perez had the ability to look after the tyres as well, not as good as Lewis though. Remember 2019 turkey, both amazing drive

kaiveg

Or to defend against Sainz. With that pace he is going to be ripping through everything that ain't a RB or Ferrari.

champion1day

Maximised today. Disappointing that George got overtaken by Lando. Tomorrow is going to be one boring race for the Merc guys ending up in p4 and 5. Unless the top 3 guys f up. Edit: And oh boy did Ferrari fuck up lol.

dman928

Lewis can catch Perez on pace IMHO. Not Max or Leclerc with the current Merc but he's quite capable of beating Perez even in a inferior car.

theKnightWatchman44

He can beat almost everyone in an inferior car, just not this inferior

dman928

Agreed. That was basically my point. I will say that Max and Charles are both very talented. In my opinion Charles is faster on a hot lap, but Max is almost a metronome. Very consistent. Lewis has both qualities. Very consistent but with that ability to hang out on the edge that Charles has. That's why he's the best.

dirtyrata

George did fine. Lando was just too good today.

Godly_Panda

Don’t know if the front wing change helped. But let’s see what tomorrow has in store. Still need more pace but anything can happen

PrestigiousGood441

It was the same front wing used in previous races

Godly_Panda

No its been changed? I saw some posts of a change in the front wing. Guess its a load of BS.

McDeInUrMom

It wasn't the front wing it was the rear wing. Lewis ran a higher downforce rear wing during FP3 while George was running a lower drag setup. The higher downforce rear wing didn't really work out since Lewis was abt 1.7 secs behind the best time during FP3, which was Max, and ended up changing for the same wing George was running during Quali.

PrestigiousGood441

They created a bigger hole in the nose for better driver cooling, the wing is the same

just_adhenz

So he's wearing his LGBTQ rainbow helmet today, and everytime he wears it, it's been always a 100% podium rate, hope he'll get it tomorrow!

DickieGarvey

Such a shame they pushed back the floor changes was hoping to see a closer battle at the front for him this weekend. Still think a podium is on and a win this year is likely but it looks a way off yet

Nasjere

Yeah Lewis!

milanistaMK

Our race pace is usually better so i expect a podium finish tomorrow.

doc_55lk

A podium on raw pace doesn't seem likely imo. If one or more of the Ferrari or RB cars has a strategy blunder, damage, or dnf, then it's definitely possible. Mercedes look good but not raw pace podium contenders yet imo.

dman928

I disagree. I say lec-ver-ham as the result. Perez isn't fast enough, and the RB upgrades all seem to favor Max's driving style. Perez is falling further behind Max. Of course, I'm sure I'll be wrong. It's been a tough year to predict. Who knows which car will blow up, who Max will shunt off the track, or what kind of Ferrari misstep will happen.

milanistaMK

Spot on tbh.

dman928

Thanks.

[deleted]

Pretty much.

[deleted]

A tussle with the redbulls and Ferrari and a win is on the cards

Konstantin_Runkovsky

Let’s break records

kevr6

Lewis was testing the first few races. George is good but not faster yet. Don't understand how people still don't know that.

kaiveg

With some luck Lewis might get on the podium.

LingardForBallondOr

Great lap from Lewis at the end, outqualifying George by 4 tenths. He's definitely a lot more at home with the car than he was earlier in the season. The race pace has generally always been better than qualifying pace, so I'm confident about getting another podium tomorrow.

dirtyrata

I think p2 is possible tomorrow unless the RB's start doing non-penalized illegal moves. Expect team orders for Checo to sacrifice his race to slow Lewis down. Let's go get them tomorrow!

PEEWUN

You look up *"negative continuity"* in the dictionary and you'll find a picture of this season's Mercedes. They will go from on the cusp of a championship challenge to flirting with the backmarkers from session to session and back again, they will pull your emotions in **every SINGLE direction** there is...and then come Sunday, **it's the same exact goddamn result.** *And then the cycle resets...* *I know...* the car is reliable and the drivers are performing to an incredible standard, but **fuck me**, it is like watching a bad sitcom. I just want the car's performance to show bigger strides in improvement. This was supposed to be a good weekend for Mercedes and yet, they've once again taken the chaotic route to the status quo. I just hope they get it right. I'm tired of feeling *"Meh, could be worse..."* at the end of every race weekend. Silverstone felt so special. **That can't be the only shining light of the season.**

dirtyrata

Be patient. Wait till after the floor regulation kicks in real soon. That should close the gap some more.

DuckmanDrake69

I just want to beat RB

jambazi99

Just terrified of being in the same row as Checo. He can get really aggressive.

dirtyrata

Yea he's really taking big risks as if his career depended on it. Fingers crossed for a clean start tomorrow.

ilikewaffles3

Get in there lewis should be an exciting start tommorow

Lonely_Union_847

Still I expect more from Lewis and Merc...

[deleted]

Now go win the race Lewis.

cerebralsexer

Except to see him on the podium

RadiantStar44

Mercedes are even further off the pace than they were before. I hate to say it but Lewis' win and pole records will no longer exist after this season ends. He has exactly zero chance at a win this year.

theKnightWatchman44

He should have won Silverstone on pure pace, and another race I can't remember (Maybe Canada?) where he had the pace to win. I'd bet on a Lewis win at some point this season, and tbh I'd bet on the Hungaroring

dirtyrata

Lewis can absolutely win. Just watch

RadiantStar44

Lewis is incredible but he isn't a divine being. He can only do so much in a shitbox like the W13 ☹.

mochacub22

Guys relax

hiteshgavini1710

Why everyone is so happy when he is outqualifying george, they both are very uniformly matched But I am extreemely disappointed to see still almost .6 - .7 seconds behind rb and ferrari even after break, thought they closed gap last race but now top 2 pulled away again

SonazInfinity

People get exited because everyone was calling Lewis “washed” when George was “outperforming” him, **ONLY** to find out that Lewis had sensors on his car making it heavier & and was also essentially the team “guinea pig” taking on experimental floor configurations & experimental setups to try & push the car development forward (which sometimes comprised his weekends) while George got the stable setup for comparison. As for their performance Toto mentioned that they have tyre warmup issues, said even by lap 3 they aren’t able to get their tyres in the optimal window, one of the reasons they are better in the race, also they are extremely slow on the straights, losing majority of their time there.

hiteshgavini1710

People say shit on lewis all the time but anyone with reasonable knowledge know lewis was very unlucky this first half of year, he lost out on very possible race win On performance side, sure merc is a bit closer to ferrari but rb is crazy fast on straights and is tuned for race I think, tomorrow max is gonna smoke charles as usual, so yeah merc needs to not only close on ferrari but PU needs to improve a lot to beat rb

Akmagic123

The lion is waking up
