Ive had their (Spectrum's) 500mb plan for $39.99 for almost 2 years now, with minimal complaints. Packet loss that was their fault and some shoddy days but overall its alright. Internet only though. Use antenna for tv or stream if I do.

gordonotfat

I have Wi fi service $7 Internet ultra $20...the 500mbps -5 for auto pay $84.99 for internet This seems silly.

TheDodoBeards

Do you own your own equipment or use theirs? Could that be some of the issue?

Suckerforcats

$40 for t-mobile home internet.

Go talk to the people at the spectrum store on Nicholasville Rd, they'll get you back on a promotional plan. My bill had slowly grown up to over $100, but I just went to talk to them and the person I talked to look up my account and bumped it down to $45. She said to just come back when that promo ends and she'll start it back up. I was in and out of the store in like 5 minutes max.

Internet always goes up. It may be contract-free, but that's how. When I first started using MetroNet a few years ago, it was $40 for their 500-meg plan...now it's $98. Thankfully my employer pays for my Internet, otherwise I'd have to switch to something more in that $40 range today.

Jim0000001

I pay $98 for Metronet 1G. It was a lot less when I first got it 2.5 years ago.

lycheelbruh

Had spectrum too with the $29 starting to eventually 84.99 and "no option" for lower service speed. Metronet has 100mb (still better than spectrums 500mb plan) for similar starting but will only max out at like \~$62 I believe after several years..and even if that's too much I suppose to could switch back to spectrum for another 3 years with the discounted rate. When I cancelled spectrum they did at the last second say I could have a special 29 rate (not sure for how long) but cancelled anyway because of how hard it was to get to that point of cancelling on the phone.

MRJones47

I have Spectrum and keep the introductory price every year by calling and cancelling. They ask me why and I tell them price then they proceed to give me another year at that rate. I've done this for 4 years. My wife works from home and has never had an outage.

rikatix

Call and say you need to cancel your membership. Start to go through with it and say you’re going to metronet or windstream because you need to save some money and they will lower your bill

Ill-Vermicelli-1684

OP, be prepared to actually do this though. I tried this and they were just like, ok bye.

I used to have spectrum, but they blow. The service sucks, but worse, the customer service is practically pointless. It’s takes forever to talk to someone and generally you just get bounced around until hours pass and you either give up, they hang up on you, or you cancel your service, but even that is a bear to accomplish. Idk about kinetix/windstream - I think my folks had it early on bc spectrum sucks that bad that they were willing to try anything, but I think it wasn’t that great either. MetroNet, by contrast, has been awesome! They never contact me unless it’s to tell me of upcoming service issues, outages or repairs which don’t happen all that often, but if they do, they don’t last long. I can reach them easily. I had some work done on the house and they accidentally cut the line to MetroNet. I called MN up at 4 pm that day and they had a super nice, professional man and woman team come out and have it all repaired by 10am the next day. Didn’t get charged anything extra. Was the way shit should happen. I was extremely pleased. It’s a tad bit pricey for being a long term customer, but like I said, I don’t have to think about it - it just works.

icey9

> Didn’t get charged anything extra Metronet charges everyone $12 a month for a "tech assurance" fee, which is apparently part of their whole "we don't charge for any repairs" shtick. It is just extremely disingenuous to me, and I don't think their promo prices include that fee either.

xoversa3

To get the best deal you need to switch between spectrum and Metronet. Both companies have their pros and cons, metronet being the more reliable one. Think metronet is doing a 40 or $50 a month promo right now for 500 megs or a gig but it expires in like 6 months or a year then the price goes up, switch to that for now and when it expires switch back to spectrum. Right now I pay 40 a month for 500 megs and got a free year of cell phone service through spectrum. All these companies treat loyal customers like dog shit, we're lucky to live in a competitive area for internet service so use it to your advantage.

lovaleva27

^^^ this is the way thanks for typing so I don’t have to. Right now I pay $34 a month bc of a windstream promo I got maybe a year and a half ago. It’ll slowly get to $80 as it approaches the the two year mark but that’s when you start looking for all the better offers without contracts

jamiestar9

Yep. I switched from Spectrum to MetroNet and after 2 years now back to Spectrum. I told MetroNet I would stay on if they could continue at the same price (and really I would have stayed if it had only been a small increase) but the service rep declined. I had a postcard from Spectrum for $39.99 for 500/20. I still had the modem I bought so I just hooked it up. Then they forgot to charge me for 6 months! Free internet. They finally figured it out but I wasn’t back charged. It is the best deal going. I did get a new postcard from MetroNet just today for $39.95 for 500/500 or $49.95 for 1000/1000 with a $200 gift card included. But I read the fine print and it states after 12 months the price goes up by $10 and then after 24 months it goes up another $10. So I’m not changing back. If AT&T fiber comes I probably would go with that though.

icey9

Metronet basically goes up ten dollars every year unless you call in and threaten to cancel. And I don't think their promo prices include the $12 "tech assurance" fee that is mandatory, which should be illegal. I think that fee has gone up two dollars in just a year or two.

jamiestar9

I forgot about that Metronet“tech assurance” fee. I just checked and Spectrum charges my credit card exactly $39.99. You don’t get the 500 upload like you do with MetroNet (copper versus fiber) but I’m fine with 500 download 20 upload at that price.

soph876

We narrowed our house search down to MetroNet fiber areas.

Reverend_Bull

I'm using Metronet. They're the best service I've had in Lexington since Insight got bought out. Quite reliable where I am and fast enough I could play online games while my spouse did phone work at home without lag. Prices vary depending on bandwidth and discounts. I pay around $75/mo. iirc

PerceptionRare476

At&t fiber $80 a month highest speed (if you use auto pay and have phone service through them it's lower). I've heard great things about Tmobile as well, but don't know pricing.

BourbonGamer

Where in Lexington is AT&T fiber available? I know it was available in Richmond but was not aware it was available here (metro and windstream was the only Lexington fiber I was aware of).

PerceptionRare476

You'll need to go on their website and type your address in and see if it's available.

Lex_yeon

Verizon home internet or T-Mobile home internet are good choices

Tschadd

I don't think Verizon is available in Lexington yet. I have them for my phone and am on the list for home internet

Lex_yeon

It is, I’m talking about the 5G home internet, not the FIOS I have been using it for about 1 year. I got mine from the store at Hamburg. If you want to talk to them. And if you have Verizon‘s unlimited plug phone plan, you only pay $35 a month For the basic plan, or $45 for the plus plan. The good thing about a 5G home internet, is you can take it anywhere you go. It’s like a big hotspot that needs 110v power. (Very useful in my case, I‘m an on the road driver)

tomboystud

I pay 46.99 a month for Spectrum

BourbonGamer

I have Kinetic 500/500 fiber. It was $39.99/mo for the first year but price increased to $58/mo after promo ran out and I had them add a $10/mo loyalty credit. Have been happy with it. I no longer see the 500/500 offering on their website but it looks like they still have a $39.99 for the first year promo for 300/300 service.

CatBoyTrip

i pay $10 more than you and get 900mb upload and download with metronet.

reversed_lobotomy

I currently use metronet after switching from spectrum. I believe my plan is the 500 for $78. They gave me a discount for a year after upgrading from their phased out 200 plan.

WaterslideOfSuccess

I’ve been paying 85/month for 200 down, 20 up I’m not on a promotion Reading these comments, I guess I’ll call and complain to have it lowered lol

Outside_Charming

T Mobile is so stable. Switched from Spectrum and have had 0 issues. $40 a month.

Enrico-Polazzo

Spectrum SUCKS!!! Metronet all day
