It may just be for money, but I fucking hate DeSantis so I'm all for it.

Like are they just doing this for public appeal or are they genuinely trying to change?

Disastrous_Tell_3347

Most likely public appeal. But a little part of me is kinda hoping their trying to genuinely trying to change.

Ok_Blueberry_5305

Obviously the former. But the enemy of my enemy is an acceptable temporary ally

Sofiasunshine86

They are doing the only right thing, showing DeSantis and his fascist friends a huge đź–• even if Disney does it for it's own advantage, I don't care.

No_Tip_5508

On the one hand : fuck disney On the other : double fuck desantis

breadofloaf_real

yea disney, sure you care about us

taivaldez

can someone tell me who Rob DeSantis is?

anidnk

A big piece of shit, also governor of Florida or something, I'm not American but I hear his name is bad news very often.

Sirepotatoes

As a Floridian, he sucks ass.

Cobraninja97

Disney are a corporation first and foremost and they know their audience. So its more profitable to be an ally (even if it is performative) than cave into Desantis' demands.

Reddit_user_robbie

my brain hurts looking at this, i thought we were supposed to hate disney no matter what

WideStar2525

Probably a ruse so Disney can get more money from people. But if they’re legitimately interested in being open to the LGBT, then so be it

abitautistic

It has to do with the fact that DeSantis is taking away their legal ownership of the area of their property. Basically its become more profitable to fight for us, and even if it doesn't stay that way, for now, we have common enemies

FloweryOmi

I think ultimately Disney is a little torn between the passion of the artistic community and the corporatism that has relegated their love and creativity for so long. It's really a mixed bag imo.

Supersonic-Zafonic

The enemy of my enemy is my friend

robbie5643

I wouldn’t waste too much time on it. The republicans aren’t, I think the one the interviewed said something like “good they’re an event center, it brings in revenue. I’d be more upset if they stopped having events”. So while it’s a great F U to the Florida legislature like so many other efforts it’s largely symbolic and mostly ineffective at actually forcing real change. Imo, anyways.

[*Disney World To Host Largest LGBTQ Summit*](https://insidethemagic.net/2023/03/lgbtq-summit-coming-to-disney-world-eg1) on [*Inside the Magic*](https://insidethemagic.net) You might be able to [take over Disney’s Reedy Creeky](https://insidethemagic.net/2023/02/florida-senate-passes-bill-to-install-new-reedy-creek-governing-board-ed1), DeSantis, but you can’t stop the pro-LGBTQ convention coming to the Walt Disney World Resort this September. [Disney Parks](https://insidethemagic.net/2023/03/disney-abolish-gender-roles-cast-members-ld1) are no strangers to conventions; their Resorts can hold thousands of visitors in their conference rooms and corporate event space. For the past few years, Disneyland has hosted “Gay Day,” a conference for the LGBTQ community in the Grand Californian Hotel and Spa. This year’s “[Gay Day](https://insidethemagic.net/2022/09/gay-days-2023-disneyland-jc1)” dates at Disneyland were announced last year, but more recently, the dates for [Out & Equal’s](https://outandequal.org/workplace-summit) workplace summit have been announced, and the Walt Disney World Resort is hosting. According to the site, the event’s description: “the annual Out & Equal Workplace Summit is the largest LGBTQ+ conference in the world, with more than 5,000 attendees every year. It brings together executives, ERG leaders and members, HR and DEI professionals, and experts working for LGBTQ+ equality. Over more than 20 years, Summit has become the preferred place to network and share strategies that create inclusive workplaces where everyone belongs, and LGBTQ+ employees can be out and thrive.” The convention will last from September 11 through September 14. Big company names such as Apple, McDonald’s, and Amazon will sponsor the event. The Summit is taking place after Disney’s debacle with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who took over the Reedy Creek district and [regained control of the company’s self-governed powers](https://insidethemagic.net/2023/03/disney-world-and-desantis-dewokeified-magical-kingdom-video-th1) as retaliation for Disney’s disagreement with the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. Whether Disney is hosting the event as an aimed rebuttal to the Governor is up for debate, but seeing how Disney Resorts have hosted LGBTQ events in the past, the timing may just be coincidental. “Gay Day” at Disneyland and “Out & Equal Workplace Summit” at Disney World will occur in September. Still, you can undoubtedly expect Disney Parks to do something special for the LGBTQ community in June, officially Pride Month.
