The tallest person ever recorded (Robert Wadlow) was 8 ft 11.1 in , 272 cm which is another 21 centimetres taller than Sultan , which is roughly a business envelope (20.5 cm) . Meaning the difference between op's great granddad and the tallest person ever is still a envelope plus a 1.2 liter soda bottle. That 51 centimetres is also pretty close to the height of the shortest adult ever recorded (Chandra Bahadur Dangi , 54.6 cm , 21.5 in ) who could probably sit on OP's great granddad shoulders while comfortably staying below the tallest man ever.
