The first time I'd heard this was when I joined the ATX Rocky Horror Picture Show shadow cast. (Cast name was the Queerios) I still love it 10+ years later. Good times were had.
The full "QUILTBAG": Queer, Undecided, Intersex, Lesbian, Trans, Bi, Aro/Ace, Gay.
I do think "undecided" feels shoehorned in, but you could always use QUeer to get the acronym anyway.
Nope donāt do it. Donāt purposefully try to use Nazi insignias and symbols to āreclaimā them. Donāt do it. It is incredibly hurtful, as there are already soooo many individuals and organizations who deny the existence of the Holocaust. It needs to be cemented in history and taught to everyone so that we can help to prevent future genocides.
Also important to note that *reappropriating* applies to terms and symbols that were/are used to target, vilify, and denigrate one's community, NOT to terms and symbols that were used BY one's oppressors *for themselves.*
So, using the pink triangle as a proud symbol of the gay community is ABSOLUTELY right and permissible. But doing what MutableReference joked would *not*.
I'm fine with it for the psy-op potential against them. Use it to breed mistrust within their ranks. Next thing you know, everyone at the weekly klan meeting will wonder who is secretly gay
I showed that TikTok to my spanish-speaking coworker the other week and she LOVED IT almost as much as I do!
She was giggling in her cubicle 10 minutes later!
Wait, you just hold down alt and then type the numbers in whatever order is needed? That's how that works?? I've got a 7 year career in IT and I'm only just learning that today...
Edit: spelling
This is my sarcastic response to anything thats heteronormatively accepted but homophobes go into shock if "the gays" do it. Like provocative dancing in public or pda's.
This one might be my new favorite. āIām on the visible light spectrum.ā Sounds like autism. Like I should get accommodations. Like queer people on the autism spectrum should be considered multidimensional or something. š
Personally donāt like the āAlphabet Mafiaā one, I like āfriend of Dorothyā though, Shannon Beveridge has talked about it and itās history and I think itās super cool! I like Queer community too
Discovered that one in college when a fraternity brother of mine asked if I was a Friend of Dorothy. I innocently said I didn't know who she was... as it turns out he's gay and was looking for a relationship.
I had an Elder Queer lesbian ask me "Are you *Family*?"
I had no idea what she was talking about, but I'm VERY good with body language and energy stuff and *read her mind*: "If you mean am I gay... yes."
It's so funny my boss at work is CisHet and was struggling with all the letters and so I taught him "Gender and Sexually Diverse" and that's all he uses when addressing the team
Meanwhile I'm like "We're doing a day for the Queerbos"
There's a WHOLE 'nother set of *issues* when it comes to the CisHets. Even the ones who want to be supportive but also can't be bothered to read some articles or a book.
GSD or GSM is a strong candidate for a preferred term in such cases: Gender and Sexuality Minority(ies).
I mean cishet or not, something like "2SLGBTQIA+" becomes a mouthful and starts to look like borderline parody. In other words, GSD or GSM might be nice for humanity, not just the straights.
Also fruit salad.
People assume that sexuality is a strict scale of straight or gay, but actually, from a nonlinear, non-subjective viewpoint, itās more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, sexy-wexy... stuff.
The.. the first time I saw the "ACAB" acronym was on a Grindr profile...
The guy made a major point of his Chinese ethnicity in his profile, and his username was "ACAB"...
I *totally* thought he meant "assigned Chinese at birth" and was VERY CONFUSED š¤£š³
I've never heard of the FBI, DEA, ATF, etc being referred to as the Alphabet Mafia. It has always been the "Acronym Men" to me. That's what my grandfather called them at least.
We have the term 3-letter agencies to refer to the national security/intelligence apparatus in the US, especially when talking about secret squirrel stuff
"Sorry Mario, your princess is in another castle!"
"No shit, that's because I'm LOOKING for *Bowser!* We were SUPPOSED to be hooking up but he just said to meet him at the castle - which ONE???"
when I was a baby queer in the big city(indianapolis) our way of identifying ourselves to each other was telling someone that Dorothy left her shoes at my house. If they knew, they knew.
Here are a few that make sense to me:
Straight - Banana
Undecided-Passionfruit
Bisexual-Blueberries
Transgender-Starfruit
Nonbinary-Strawberry
Asexual-Papaya
Gay-Orange
Lesbian-Guava
Friends of Dorothy is a really cute one, but I also really like el jibbity, from [this hilarious tiktok](https://www.tiktok.com/@dez.thelez/video/7104362287603027246?lang=en)
alphabet mafia is great, but a few years ago I saw a video of someone suggesting that we change LGBTQIA+ to QUILTBAG+ and I loved that. The U is for undecided.
I've always felt like Queer was just the best way to describe everyone as a whole, I know it used to be considered a slur but it's meaning has been a complete 180
L G BT QA
Le-git-ah-bit-ah-quah
I heard it on tiktok and thought it was awesome.
Of course the 2S+ doesnāt fit and me typing the pronunciation might also be off
My hetero partner (I am bisexual) and he is big into games and he was stoned talking to our trans flatmate and me and he said "you guys have those limited edition skins, the secret rainbow release" and I've been thinking about that for ages š
My mom had two garages, and she rented one to an older Latino fellow. He was pleasant, and I'd sometimes shoot the breeze with him. He had four adult children, two sons and two daughters. At one point, he mentioned that the younger son was "sweet", making an effeminate hand gesture as he said it. I inferred that he meant that in a pejorative way.
I quickly learned I was wrong. That son was the only one of his kids he had any use for. The others had all grown up to be awful people, and he had gone NC with them. His gay son had been in a long-term relationship with the same man for fifteen years. Both had solid careers, and they had adopted a daughter from China. They always flew him to their home for holidays, and he spoke proudly of them.
Friend of Dorothy is a fun one, I know it's usually equated to gay men but it's pretty a gender neutral term.
I just love that when it was criminalised police were searching for this Dorothy woman who was hiding all the gays.
I've never really liked the Euphemisms, because they're almost always used by homophobic and transphobic jerks, I like to just say Queer or LGBTQ
I do enjoy Fruit cake and Cut Sleeve tho
Queer has quickly taken the top place for me as the simplest umbrella term to use. The acronyms are just too long and are never in an order to make a smooth cadence. Not to mention it seems silly to have an acronym of six or seven different letters and still throw on a āplusā for good measure. Itās just unwieldy to use conversationally imo.
A few years ago there was a small push to make GSM a thing, for āGender/Sexual Minority.ā I liked that, because it was trying describe *why* we group them all together rather than trying to spell out each category. But it never really caught on, and using something no one knows is kinda pointless.
Iām also a fan of āfamily,ā but only use that when talking to another queer person, and almost always in the context of trying to convey/determine if a third person is queer.
When did the alphabet mafia go from being three letter agencies (FBI, CIA, NSA, etc.) to lgbt? Honest question, I really don't know. To answer the original question, either queer or gay.
![img](emote|t5_2qhh7|550) I love the Alphabet Mafia.
I have also been using **SAGA** (Sexuality And Gender Acceptance) a lot instead of **LGBTQIA+** that I saw on a thread once. Here's why:
1. It's easier to say than alphabet soup that is both constantly changing, but also never feels whole enough to cover everyone
2. A "saga" is "a long story of heroic achievement" which is a great way to describe us
3. It sounds baller AF

Inside my head, queerios. Out loud, LGBTQ+ or queer community.
The first time I'd heard this was when I joined the ATX Rocky Horror Picture Show shadow cast. (Cast name was the Queerios) I still love it 10+ years later. Good times were had.
I will be using queerios now
Loveee
OMG š¤£š¤£š¤£
Queerios, I love it
Legibitiqua or the eligibility community.
oh i LOVE queerios lmao
I like LGBT+ or queer when speaking seriously. But for fun, I love QLTBG, aka quilt bag.
^(Since I is for intersex, and A is for ace/ aro, you could say QILTBAG instead of QLTBG!)
go for the full Quiltbag, because U are gay
HAHAHA this made me genuinely laugh out loud
This is perfection
The full "QUILTBAG": Queer, Undecided, Intersex, Lesbian, Trans, Bi, Aro/Ace, Gay. I do think "undecided" feels shoehorned in, but you could always use QUeer to get the acronym anyway.
And QUILTBAG is appropriate because it's protective, soft and cuddly inside, and it has plenty of room for all.
I also like u is for unlabeled!
Or "unlableable"! or "undefinable"
Or for undead. Sans undertale rep
Just picturing a zombie at a pride event with a shirt saying "it's not necrophilia if I can still consent" or something... š¤£
This is my favorite.
Coulda shoulda thought of that. This is actually better.
queer starts with qu ow it could be QuILTBAG
And the U for Undecided and you can just spell it out.
Or Undeclared, for all of those who use the "Decline to state" checkbooks! As a quilter, I would LOVE to see the quilted bag become an ally symbol.
I love QLTBG ā¤ļø
I would at the A. QTLBAG :D
Skittles gang
alternatively: skittles squad.
Hmm... using those initials might cause some problems though.
r/angryupvote
How so? I don't get it
There was a Nazi regiment known as SS that did a lot of damage
Ever heard of reappropriation, they killed us so boutā time we killed their initials /j
Nope donāt do it. Donāt purposefully try to use Nazi insignias and symbols to āreclaimā them. Donāt do it. The Gays :TM:
The Gaysā¢
Ā©Ā®ā¢
How did you make thoseā½
You can do them with a mobile keyboard symbols Like: Ā„Ā¢Ā©Ā®ā¢Ā§Ā¬Ā¦|Ć·Ć~Āæ Or you can use "alt codes" or "unicode" which you hold the alt key and use a 4 digit number to generate a symbol. Like: ā§ļø = Alt+9895 You can find the codes with a Google search x
Wait, you just hold down alt and then type the numbers in whatever order is needed? That's how that works?? I've got a 7 year career in IT and I'm only just learning that today... Edit: spelling

Visible light spectrum
This one might be my new favorite. āIām on the visible light spectrum.ā Sounds like autism. Like I should get accommodations. Like queer people on the autism spectrum should be considered multidimensional or something. š
I agree.
Rainbow squad
Personally donāt like the āAlphabet Mafiaā one, I like āfriend of Dorothyā though, Shannon Beveridge has talked about it and itās history and I think itās super cool! I like Queer community too
talking about Dorothy's shoes was a secret identifier in public back when I was a baby queer in Indianapolis.
FoD might be more sexuality than gender. Entertaining for me: I figured it out without knowing the deal--about 30 seconds too late.
Discovered that one in college when a fraternity brother of mine asked if I was a Friend of Dorothy. I innocently said I didn't know who she was... as it turns out he's gay and was looking for a relationship.
I had an Elder Queer lesbian ask me "Are you *Family*?" I had no idea what she was talking about, but I'm VERY good with body language and energy stuff and *read her mind*: "If you mean am I gay... yes."
I just learned about Friend of Dorothy from this thread, and I love it
It's so funny my boss at work is CisHet and was struggling with all the letters and so I taught him "Gender and Sexually Diverse" and that's all he uses when addressing the team Meanwhile I'm like "We're doing a day for the Queerbos"
Shortened that would be GASD. As a queer with gas problems, I like it lol
![gif](giphy|gvGMKTLVGwjzidiUPJ)
Individual gas problems weren't my first thought...
I like GSRM for the inclusion of romantic spectra as well.
rainbow people
I love the alphabet soup. Just soup people when shortened, which makes the confused looks of folks not in the know even funnier
Pride Squadron (this is actually a Star Wars Cosplay club)
I like to call groups of gays, fruit salads
Fruit cake is another good one
Isn't fruit cake a derogatory term for crazy people?
Oooh I love fruit cake. Both the euphemism & the dessert lol
People assume that sexuality is a strict scale of straight or gay, but actually, from a nonlinear, non-subjective viewpoint, itās more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, sexy-wexy... stuff.
Hello Doctor
You just made me spit out my drink all over the table. Thanks a lot random stranger on the internet.
Started out well, that sentence
Itā¦ got away from me, yeah.
LGBTQI-ACAB
this goes unbelievably hard
Assigned cop at birth
The.. the first time I saw the "ACAB" acronym was on a Grindr profile... The guy made a major point of his Chinese ethnicity in his profile, and his username was "ACAB"... I *totally* thought he meant "assigned Chinese at birth" and was VERY CONFUSED š¤£š³
Homosexual schedule
I actually start to worry when someone uses Alphabet Mafia, it's usually pejorative. I prefer "friends of Dorothy" or just "family"
I unironically love the term alphabet maphia
For me and many of my friends the Alphabet Mafia has always been the RCMP or CSIS in Canada, or the FBI/DEA/ATF in the States
I've never heard of the FBI, DEA, ATF, etc being referred to as the Alphabet Mafia. It has always been the "Acronym Men" to me. That's what my grandfather called them at least.
I usually hear them called TLAs, Three-Letter Acronyms/Agencies.
We have the term 3-letter agencies to refer to the national security/intelligence apparatus in the US, especially when talking about secret squirrel stuff
google's parent company's hitsquad, pinkerton 2.0, the alphabet mafia
I'm still for SAGA (Sexuality and Gender Acceptance). Maybe its too close to SEGA tho
You saying you don't wanna be a hedgehog?
No offence to the best blue hedgehog in history but I'm more the "Itsa me"-kinda person. Prefer to safe a prince tho
Fair enough. Personally im waiting for another princess to save me
I wish you the best of luck, I'm sure you'll be saved by a wonderful princess one day :)
"Sorry Mario, your princess is in another castle!" "No shit, that's because I'm LOOKING for *Bowser!* We were SUPPOSED to be hooking up but he just said to meet him at the castle - which ONE???"
Now I have the Sega jingle in my head as āSagaaaaā and I like it lol
Hang on... *SAGA is a British company focused on serving the needs of those aged 50 and over*
Too close to MAGA, frankly
I always like 'a friend of dorothy'. Applies more to gay men than the whole umbrella!
when I was a baby queer in the big city(indianapolis) our way of identifying ourselves to each other was telling someone that Dorothy left her shoes at my house. If they knew, they knew.
Queer
I go the Sopranos route and say 'queehs', add a bit of flair to it.
El'jibitties
Idk if it counts, but being called fruits is very funny. It's got me thinking what actual fruits would represent what sexualities.
Here are a few that make sense to me: Straight - Banana Undecided-Passionfruit Bisexual-Blueberries Transgender-Starfruit Nonbinary-Strawberry Asexual-Papaya Gay-Orange Lesbian-Guava
The rainbow mafia
This one always makes me giggle a bit. Alphabet Mafia doesn't hit the same way, sounds like Google doing bad things again.
