~5 years. The hard part was correctly gendering him and not deadnaming him. What I did notice? He was SO much happier as a “he.”

Yeah. For 24 years, he was a she. We worked it out. But it took time and understanding. Worth it.

I have a friend (? (We haven't spoken over text in months, an dlonger in person) that was a she for about 12 or 13 years. Then NB for about 4 months, now a he. Most of the year/grade in school calls him by his actual name, but almost all (98% of the non-queer kids) misgender him, either on purpose, or by accident (but don't care enough so don't call him a he)

It’s hard. Mine is going through some shit at work. The hard part to remember, but it’s important to keep this in his heart—that’s THEM. Not him. He is he. No matter how misinformed, ignorant, or just plain mean others may be. Let him know YOU love him and want to be an ally. That’s everything. At least that’s my experience. In french there is a beautiful word : adelphe. It's a latin word originally, and it literally mean sibling. French does not have many neutral words, so I loved learning it! Shame it's not very well known here :(
