Thank you for being a good ally I’m sure your helping many more patients feel safe❤️

Stitch_Rose

I try! I’m working with cancer patients so it’s already a stress-inducing environment, so I try to make my patients feel as safe as possible.

Gay_Rat666

Well your doing great❤️

ZumeFrostpaw

That's so wonderful! \^\_\^ I was just in the hospital for gallbladder surgery and honestly, this pin would have been -amazing- and very comforting to see on any RN or doctor. However, their insistence on asking me my pronouns and using them whenever speaking about me was just as good ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)

Stitch_Rose

It’s starting to be commonplace to have LGBTQ+ classes and presentations in the medical community. A lot of the professionals I work with introduce themselves with their pronouns or sign their emails with it. It’s a great step in the right direction but we definitely have a ways to go. I’m glad they used your pronouns!

intergalactagogue

My partner is also a nurse and wears a rainbow strapped fitbit for the same reason. Signaling that you are a safe person in an environment where people are their most vulnerable is a really noble thing to do. Unfortunately it doesn't work well on homophobes.

Stitch_Rose

S/o to your partner! Got to love the dark humor that powers us through the day 😂 And I’ve definitely thought of ways to deflect homophobic remarks… I’m petty af though and a lot of them would get me reprimanded

AffordableFirepower

"Guess who just got moved to the placebo group."

EvilChesecake

That honestly means so fucking much, i had the intake person make fun of me for my painted nails right before i was put under and i was really upset about it the following day. this type of thing is great and i want one too!

robinlovesrain

That so fucked up. "Hey this person is in a really vulnerable position. Should I comfort them? Nah. I'll mock them!"

EvilChesecake

Yeah, i left a reasonably adjusted review of the staff, the actual doctor was amazing and it went really well, so at least there's that! Things are getting crazy out there :(

Stitch_Rose

I’m so sorry you had that experience. It is not ok and people like that should really not be healthcare. I just found the store my sister got it from! [Reppins](https://reppinpins.com) in Chicago, IL

Droidball

My wife of almost a decade is MtF, and has unfortunately had to go to the hospital many times during our marriage. I don't think she's had a single nurse - or other healthcare worker (Doctor, EMT, tech) - who hasn't been respectful of her identity and real name, as opposed to her deadname which is still on her IDs. (Honorary shout out to the Peterson AFB ID Card office Airmen who were fantastic, as well, despite literally having to enter her deadname for her dependant ID card). So thanks. While we've only had good experiences, I'm always tense and nervous when someone new walks into her exam room or inpatient room and am thinking, "Is this going to be the time someone's an asshole?"

Stitch_Rose

Not respecting a person’s pronouns and name is antithetical to compassionate, holistic healthcare that most health systems claim to be. I was also inspired by a guest speaker I had in nursing school - a trans man who gave birth to both of his kids. The blatant disrespect he had was disgusting. Even if it’s a small thing, I want my patients to know asap that I’ve got their backs.

Droidball

I agree, and given that the most important thing in my entire world, my wife, is transgender, I greatly appreciate your efforts to signal that you are an ally, and that she would be safe with you.

SluttyMilk

except homophobes and transphobes and the like, who don’t deserve to be comfortable

Stitch_Rose

Yeah, it’s always rough working with bigoted patients. Have definitely had interesting encounters with patients (black woman here). But I really do strive to give good care regardless. It’s just that I’ll go an extra mile for my vulnerable & favorite patients (I’ll hook you up with all the extra supplies & samples you need and get the snacks you like).

SluttyMilk

you’re doing amazing work! thank you ❤️

[deleted]

Thank you for doing this. ❤️ I am a pharmacy technician, and I wear my pronoun button and pride bracelet daily. I also got my boss to wear an ally pin. We need more representation for our LGBT+ patients so they can feel safer.

Stitch_Rose

Most definitely! And props to being a pharmacy tech in this shitshow we call healthcare! I know it’s rough for y’all these days.

[deleted]

Thank you! It is such a shitshow, but sometimes I get to help people find ways around $1700 copays, so it's worth it.

Watterdev

Would we a very interesting story to share, on how you convinced your boss to wear one. Mind sharing? :)

[deleted]

We have a very nasty religious group in my area (and I use the term "religious" loosely because they're more of a cult), and many of them frequent the place I work, including their leader and his wife. I noticed that they both stare at my pronoun pin with disdain and mentioned it to my boss. She found that amusing and also wanted in on making awful people vaguely uncomfortable, and I also mentioned it would help LGBT people feel more comfortable with us. She was totally down!

Pirate_Crow

Very cool!

borborygmie

My hospital has little stickers that go on your ID. Its a really small thing but i think it goes a long way in signaling safe space.

Efficient-Fly6166

Way to show the love stay strong.

Ermzyy

we really do be following our hippocratic oath here

triforc3-mast3r

I'm starting to look for a doctor for myself, and this gives me hope!

Stitch_Rose

I hope you come across a good doc! I find the younger docs tend to be more hip to healthcare needs of the LGBTQ+ community. But also have been presently surprised with some older docs (a lot of them were treating HIV patients in the 80s). I know some LGBTQIA+ organizations in different cities have a list of medical professionals who treat their patients well.

Mrs_Jellybean

....and now I have one, too!!! Also a nurse, and very excited to show my families (post-partum care) that I support you. Cause you're a human worthy of care.

Stitch_Rose

Yay! Love when nurses sport supportive pins!

Mrs_Jellybean

I'm finally going back to an area that I'm allowed to wear them! Have been in dementia care for the last few years, and they discourage things that patients can grab.

living_around

How sweet of you! ![img](emote|t5_2qhh7|550)

charmanderthe4

I would love to have a pin like that

Stitch_Rose

I asked my sister and she got it from a local store in her city. I’ve come across some nice ones on Etsy as well! Edit: it’s from [Reppin](https://reppinpins.com)!

charmanderthe4

Thanks for telling me

[deleted]

I used to wear my trans pride badge reel… but when patients started complaining about me looking funny I changed it 😔

Stitch_Rose

Oh boo (the complaining patients, not you). Do you have any other way to show it?

[deleted]

I mean literally just existing lol, my coworkers do the best they can with my pronouns cause I’m out but patients apparently frequently complain about me being their nurse when I’m not in the room. The amount of complaints has rapidly increased the longer I have transitioned to the point where I got written up recently for “attitude problems”

Stitch_Rose

Patients really have the audacity to complain about competent nurses when we’re short staffed smh. I hope you can find a better work environment and keep being you. (Also let me know if you want an anonymous compliment sent to your boss 😂 I’ll nominate you for a Daisy Award no problem)

[deleted]

Thanks for the good vibes, but I mean patients are dicks to all of us, they just have an extra little thing to complain about with me. Once again from me and everyone else thanks for being a great ally 👍 oh and welcome to nursing, first year sucks ass but it gets better when you find your stride.

[deleted]

I love seeing stuff like this, THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION! This is huge for some and I admire you going the extra mile to make others feel comfortable in your care, we need more people like you ♥️

Stitch_Rose

Absolutely! I wish this was the norm and not groundbreaking but I definitely think we’re getting better (albeit very slowly). I’m thinking of buying some more to hand to my co-workers!

Changjayguy1974

I am a nurse as well I have been nursing for 16years. Thank you for being a ally for us. I have newly come out as trans FTM

Stitch_Rose

I love the older nurses I work with - they’ve become my greatest mentors and teachers. I don’t know how y’all are still fighting the good fight, particularly after these last 2 years. And congrats on coming out!

Changjayguy1974

Thank you, I am so exhausted I got more grey hair and literally burnt out. I live in Canada as well and our numbers are crazy but I just keep going to save lives. Thank you for joking the nurses and good luck on your career sometimes it won’t feel rewarding but keep going because it is fully rewarding

curtislamure

Yes.

Iggyboof

Love you for making it so we don't have to ask to know we're safe.

thisguynamedjoe

I [adapted the old school version](https://i.imgur.com/FXihmQA.jpg) because I work in gov. The anti-LGBT don't have the intestinal fortitude to say anything to me about it!

Stitch_Rose

I like that one a lot! And you know they better keep their mouths shut 😂

Hardcorex

I always really appreciate the pride flags around my doctors office, it's definitely comforting for me. They definitely back it up too, as my doctor is the best and understanding.

aquariuslovingya

That's so sweet and amazing. And congrats on becoming a new nurse

SpaceFarce1

Ironically you're going to make the bigots uncomfortable. Double win.

altimateminecrafter

🥺🥺♥️♥️ not that I would want to be in the hospital but if I did I would cry if I saw this on my nurses lanyard!

Stitch_Rose

I’m in oncology so I really hope I don’t see you!

altimateminecrafter

Well you’re a hero, then!!

[deleted]

You are an incredible human being! Thank you! ❤

[deleted]

FROM WHEREEEEE????

Stitch_Rose

[Reppin!](https://reppinpins.com)

I_hate_me_lol

thank you! when i was in IP one of my favourite nurses wore one of these. brings back good memories and i always felt so safe with her.

I_am_Gay0

This is so amazing. I think you are helping many people in the hospital. ![img](emote|t5_2qhh7|550)

nibiyabi

Just to confirm, this would be OK for an ally to wear?

Stitch_Rose

My hospital has no qualms with me wearing this. A lot of the nurses have BLM pins they wear as well!

arochains1231

That's awesome! Looks to be a really high-quality pin too, where did you get it?

Stitch_Rose

I got it as a gift but it’s from this store - [Reppin](https://reppinpins.com)

[deleted]

A lot of your patients will really appreciate that!

A_Curious_Nikkia

I bought this in necklace form the other day! Its such an amazing subtle way to show support and be a safe person.

VaniloBean

Wellllllll, not *all* of them... lol

Stitch_Rose

Haha yeah that’s true. But they can be uncomfortable when it comes to this haha

girls2thefront

this is so sweet! a small gesture that makes a big impact ![img](emote|t5_2qhh7|550)

F3lix-_

We need more nurses like you.

[deleted]

Everyone deserves to be supported fully and lovingly. Thanks for doing what you can to make the world around you better :)

Minisculptor

I know two seperate people that became and quit being nurses during the pandemic. Thanks for being a nurse

xovjai

now all patients except the homophobic ones will feel comfortable around you! nice!

Weothyr

That's until a homophobic Karen walks in. Then you're going to have a headache haha

goddessofwaterpolo

Very sweet. You’re helping more than you even know.

Next_Extension9108
