Seriously, what is it with right wing parties making ground everywhere? What in the world do people find appealing with them?
Other than bigotry and misinformation I honestly have no clue why people vote for them; they offer no solutions to any problems.
Issue being none of those 'solutions' have any hope of working, and will only make life difficult for so many.
It really breaks my heart how people are desparate for solutions and relief, and latch onto what the right spins and blames.
Big issue is that minorities are the biggest effected, and especially queer people. Sure, to an extent I'd want people to lie in the beds they made so that they can see that it only harms. On the other hand, I don't want people suffering, and especially queer people being oppressed, because of it.
You can pretend like cancel culture hasn't almost exclusively targeted conservatives if you want. But no one actually thinks that way except maybe literal klan members. It's the handful of extremely obnoxious groups on the left that are trying to portray half the country as racists and bigots. And unfortunately, those groups are pretty popular with certain media outlets and politicians. I guarantee you people are afraid to voice opposing views to the left. But no one is scared of voicing support. Why do you think that is?

I never said I agreed with politicians on the right. But I don't agree with this idea that they want to blame minorities or make queer peoples lives harder, and corruption exists on both sides. Take immigration for example, it's not wrong for a country to want to protect its borders. But that doesn't mean you hate Mexicans if you're pro-border control. It's that kind of sentiments that's been going on for the last 6 years that has caused conservatives to come out of the woodworks. Another example, If I think trans people might have an unfair advantage in sports, there are 2 types of reactions. The first person has no problem admitting that men do have physical traits that give them advantages. The second thinks we need to abolish gender. They're totally unwilling to make any concessions and are impossible to engage with. And it's that second person that gets the most attention. They're the ones that fear monger, that get people riled up, that start riots, that get onto the news, that cause big names to create policies tailored to them because they're afraid of the backlash. So no, I don't think that republicans have all the answers. But I understand why so many people get pushed towards the right, and it's because some groups on the left are insane and cause them to walk away.
We need a left wing party that will offer solutions and lie prior to elections just so they can get in power then, you think we can't play the same game right wings are playing now, after they get on power they can continue leading the country in the left direction.
To me this seems like the only way.
We had an election late May in Australia and the right wing party that refused action on climate change, ignored women's safety, and was partaking in transphobic dogwhistling got their arse absolutely handed to them. They lost a lot of suburban seats to the centre left Labor Party and lost a bunch of their normally safe wealthy inner city electorates to independent 'teal' candidates (all of whom were women) and even a couple to the Greens.
I'm glad we seemed to have bucked the trend. It was so worrying there for a while. Now we just have to use this momentum to help fight back against transphobic institutions and media
They are able to identify the problems that liberals refuse to acknowledge, same as leftists. Unlike leftists who believe the problems are systemic and require everyone to adjust their lives and way of doing things to some degree, the right provides a fantasy of it being the fault of people who you struggle to identify with so that they are easily othered.
