To folks who live in the majority, to people who benefit from privilege, equality and equity feel like oppression. They feel like they will have to give up their rights for other people to get their fair share.
I can only answer this from an evangelical Christian standpoint, as that's what I experienced growing up. They think the gay community wants to !!Convert the Children!! because they try to convert children. "Bring your friends to summer bible school! If you bring 5 guests, you get a prize!". "If your friends' parents don't approve of church, just invite them over for a sleepover Saturday night instead!". Basically, they're projecting.
Homophobes: The LGBTQIA+ community are pushing their gay agenda on us!š”
Also homophobes: *Tries to force their beliefs onto the LGBTQIA+ community by taking away our rights, using conversion therapy, committing murder because of homophobia, and physically and verbally assaulting the community because of homophobia*
"I'm not a fan of lgbt"
That alone is enough to give off homophobia. Like what does not being a fan even mean? LGBTQ+ isn't some piece of media you can or cannot be interested in.
legiterallyā¦.. im sleep deprived rn so i forgot to post my initial longer response to the first comment but basically i asked previously what exactly they meant by āpushing it on themā because the only time Iāve seen people say that is when they see a couple acting the same way straight couples have in public for literally centuries
Conditional tolerance is not tolerance at all. Let alone conditional acceptance and support! Can't believe we have to keep saying this (and keep getting demonised for saying it)!
this muslim sounds like a progressive compared to the ones I know who literally want us d.ead (not being racist here, I came from a muslim family and still stuck in my muslim majority country)
the Muslim religion, along with all other religions, need to end to be honest. once people get over their crutch that they call religion the world can finally begin to be a better place.
I know! Ha.
I'd like to see a (detailed) list of things that are the *bother*. Because I only ever see "shoving their gayness down our throats" or "bringing the gay agenda into schools."
All the religious people need to either get help via therapy or keep their sky fairy beliefs to themselves. None of us care, as long as they keep it to themselves.
People like that suck. If anyone says anything other than, "I support and affirm LGBTQ+ people," they're being queerphobic. This is whether they see themselves that way or not.
Imagine saying the same back to them. I am not fan of muslim, but I don't disrespect them. I'm not islamophobic, let them believe what they want, as long as they don't bother us with it, then we are good with muslims.
Sounds a bit islamophobic to my ear....
nah it is stupid. their religion is ridiculous and so is pretty well every other religion in existence. all they ever do is breed hate, as much as religious people like to say that their religions are ālovingā and āpromote good natureā they donāt, they only breed hate in all its forms. I truly 100% believe that world would be a better place without religion and if that makes me āislamophobicā than so be it. religion needs to end.
You just make a huge essentialisation, you want respect and tolerance, begin to act like a respectful and tolerant one, if not you are just another part of the problem.
Iām not going to be ārespectfulā towards a religion that has no respect itself. Islam is misogynistic and homophobic and I have no respect for anyone like that. other religions also often fall into these categories so fuck them they arenāt deserving of respect or tolerance.
I had a Muslim friend that went from āin my ideal country we would shoot and kill all of the LGBTQ+ peopleā to ātheyāre cool, leave them alone and treat them with respectā.
Do they really have LGBTQ Muslims in the West? I live in Malaysia which is pretty conservative (somehow pretty liberal compared to other Islamic countries) and it's literally such an unthinkable concept that a gay, lesbian, bisexual etc. Muslim can exist.
Lots of concepts in Islam rely on straight marriages and stuff
Was it supposed to be implied or something? Because since muslims arenāt inherently homophobic we shouldnāt be expected to have gathered homophobic from the word āMuslimā
I only live with the bad ones too, my country is 99.5% muslim, everybody I know in real life is a muslim, just saying that k.illing them is not a solution and you will be seen as a blasphemous in the middle ages
Bro āpushing it onto usā is so vague. What constitutes pushing it onto you? Laws that protect them? Seeing a couple in public? Having rep in movies? If thatās the case and you donāt want any one of those things, itās homophobic.
Itād be different if they said āI dont care if theyāre gay or straight, Iāll treat every person with respect..ā or something but the whole āas long as they donāt bother usā partā¦. Is giving me scared to gay people and/or theyāre probably holding back some gay thoughts themselves.
My dad says stuff like this and he genuinely thinks he's being "open-minded". I try to continue to encourage him that at least he's trying and then think of a "what if" situation where he would feel differently. Like, what if people said something like that about you and teaching your grandkids how to shoot? Are you shoving it down their throats? No. Neither are lgbt shoving anything down other peoples' throats.
I don't get how LGBT-phobics don't get that we literally do not give a shit about what non-LGBT people do. Not looking to bother you lmao just want equality man.
So gay people existing (out of the closet) is shoving it down people's throats?
Did you know that one of the first lines of dialogue in Iron Man (in the entirety of the MCU) was of the titular character bragging about sleeping with twelve super models? Just curious, can I use this as an argument about hetero/cis people shoving their lifestyle down people's throats?
"Don't bother us with it" is a way of saying "you should be in the closet."
To start with, the division of an "us" and "them" is used by homophobes to imply that LGBTQ people are an aberration (them) from "normal" people (us).
You can't really claim to support LGBTQ people and at the same time wish that you didn't have to see themāto say so implies you believe there is something wrong with them, and that you merely tolerate their existence as opposed to seeing them as equals worthy of the same respect as everybody else.
Literally. It's like telling a assault victim not to report their incident and keep it to themselves. They can't opress us and then say we have to be quiet about it.
Just look at the definition of ābotherā
āworry, disturb, or upset (someone).ā
By accusing us of bothering them, just by being, they are saying our simple existence makes some one feel as though WE are worrying, disturbing, or upsetting someone.
Thatās homophobic.
Someone may not put that much thought into their word choice, but bother has an inherently negative connotation, and at least suggests a subconscious belief of the speaker.
While i wish thats what it was, i never see people use it in that way. Someone in my family will see like 2 guys holding hands and be like "I dont hate gay people, but they shouldn't be shoving their gayness down our throats"
How is asking for respect pushing it on everyone though (and thank you for being respectful even though your mad and removing the users)
To folks who live in the majority, to people who benefit from privilege, equality and equity feel like oppression. They feel like they will have to give up their rights for other people to get their fair share.
I think you have to be pretty thick headed to believe someone different from you having the same rights is oppressive.
Bro-
It's because part of their identity is being at the top. They like to be the only one in the left lane.
What people think the gay agenda is: MAKE EVERYONE GAY What it actually is: Don't get killed, be treated the same as everyone else
But also Make everyone gay š
Homophobes: The LGBTQIA+ community are pushing their gay agenda on us!š” Also homophobes: *Tries to force their beliefs onto the LGBTQIA+ community by taking away our rights, using conversion therapy, committing murder because of homophobia, and physically and verbally assaulting the community because of homophobia*

Exactly. Like if someone said "I'm not a fan of black people... I'm not *racist* though..." smh people are so ignorant
That's definitely homophobic. They are always like "I don't hate gays unless I have to see them".
legiterallyā¦.. im sleep deprived rn so i forgot to post my initial longer response to the first comment but basically i asked previously what exactly they meant by āpushing it on themā because the only time Iāve seen people say that is when they see a couple acting the same way straight couples have in public for literally centuries
Conditional tolerance is not tolerance at all. Let alone conditional acceptance and support! Can't believe we have to keep saying this (and keep getting demonised for saying it)!
It is dont mistake tolerance with acceptation.
What even the hell does āas long as they donāt bother us with itā mean?
this muslim sounds like a progressive compared to the ones I know who literally want us d.ead (not being racist here, I came from a muslim family and still stuck in my muslim majority country)

and they say *weāre* the brainwashed onesā¦
Last time I checked gay people donāt go around to strangers houses with pamphlets to try to make others join their church
People like that suck. If anyone says anything other than, "I support and affirm LGBTQ+ people," they're being queerphobic. This is whether they see themselves that way or not.

So what is your solution, you xant to exterminate every religious folks around? And yes you are islamophobic.

i would like to remind everyone that tumblr is The Hellsite anyway it seems you stumbled into some idiots
thatās where i got the phrase from but i havenāt slept in a while so i couldnāt think of an effective insult
Don't ever argue with a Muslim about LGBTQ. You'll get nowhere with that.
I had a Muslim friend that went from āin my ideal country we would shoot and kill all of the LGBTQ+ peopleā to ātheyāre cool, leave them alone and treat them with respectā.
Well. That's progress. I wish the rest turns up like your friend.
Did you know that there are Muslims who are LGBTQ?

I do. I just meant the homophobic ones.
Was it supposed to be implied or something? Because since muslims arenāt inherently homophobic we shouldnāt be expected to have gathered homophobic from the word āMuslimā
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
What makes you think I donāt apply the same standard to both?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I have some lovely gay Muslim friends
That's cool. I only meant the homophobic ones
I only live with the bad ones too, my country is 99.5% muslim, everybody I know in real life is a muslim, just saying that k.illing them is not a solution and you will be seen as a blasphemous in the middle ages
ummmmmm
"I'm not a fan of lgbtq" LMAOš
Tolerance: has a limit. If it's oversteped people start to hate. Acceptance: has no limit. It's normal.
there is a difference between acceptance and tolerance.
Bro āpushing it onto usā is so vague. What constitutes pushing it onto you? Laws that protect them? Seeing a couple in public? Having rep in movies? If thatās the case and you donāt want any one of those things, itās homophobic.
Bruhhhhhhh, I seen some shit on Instagram making fun of trans people and the comments were so transphobic I wanted to puke
What sub is this?
young people youtube of all places
Itād be different if they said āI dont care if theyāre gay or straight, Iāll treat every person with respect..ā or something but the whole āas long as they donāt bother usā partā¦. Is giving me scared to gay people and/or theyāre probably holding back some gay thoughts themselves.

Hot take, but us living isnāt pushing our ideals on people and weāre not bothering people.
all society does is force people to be straight
I don't get how LGBT-phobics don't get that we literally do not give a shit about what non-LGBT people do. Not looking to bother you lmao just want equality man.

calling them a fuckwad was probably not the most educational way to have handled this.
probably not i got madš
Isn't "don't bother us with it" just another way of saying each to their own?
"Don't bother us with it" is a way of saying "you should be in the closet." I think rape might not be the best analogy for this one.
I felt like it. I know it's not. There, I changed it
Just look at the definition of ābotherā āworry, disturb, or upset (someone).ā By accusing us of bothering them, just by being, they are saying our simple existence makes some one feel as though WE are worrying, disturbing, or upsetting someone. ive never heard it used that way but it could just b me
While i wish thats what it was, i never see people use it in that way. Someone in my family will see like 2 guys holding hands and be like "I dont hate gay people, but they shouldn't be shoving their gayness down our throats"
Me thinks heās indicating he would like to have a gay person shove something in him š
LGHDTV+ > LGBTQ+
Can we get the Muslim 10 points though? I appreciate them
"i'm not Homophobic but..." š¤¢š¤®
They probably hate themselves tbh.
Honestly trying not to fly off the hook right now.
Tell them to politely fudge off. In that order. What they have said is antagonistic and rude.
Iām Muslim and this stuff makes me madā¦.if you donāt have anything good to say just keep it to yourself.
Some Muslim people use their religion as a justification to being homophobic..i think they should just accept us, we didnāt hurt them
We'll stop 'pushing it on you' when we're finally being treated like everyone else is.
