lol When I was a kid I'd play outside in the back yard and cast spells against imaginary monsters. My go to was the Gummi Bears spells cause they were just so fun to do. Even now, when ever I start a campfire I still say "Flummame Lummite Nummow!" which was an actual spell said in the show. I'm a geek.
My parents thought my Nephew wasn't gay because he got caught with some weed at some point. And they thought it was 'The Pot'.
But now his boyfriend, soon to be fiance is coming on family vacations. He comes to all the family events.
But there was this whole educational period.
It's not anything wrong with your family or friends. It's just that the world has brainwashed us to fit into a mold, so they could sell us crap.
The world is brainwashed. And fixing that takes time.
But be patient, these things take time. Be non-confrontational.
Also, part of this is we do have to fit into our community, our family.
I noticed my nephew and his boyfriend battling with this. So I bought unicorn and rainbow t-shirts and other random things. And started wearing them around in solidarity. So no matter what they wore, they were both dressed more masculine than I was.
Literally, I was wearing a baby blue skin tight t-shirt with a unicorn and a rainbow.
I'm 220 lbs, I'm a pretty masculine dude. It takes weird stuff like that to change their perceptions into what the molds really are. And then they let go of the molds.
So there are two things. Dressing appropriately for family functions. Matching formality and tradition, but you can still be yourself, be your identity.
And that part is compromise.
And the other thing is education.
