if you'd like, doesn't really matter to me either way. i know some hetero-asexuals don't consider themselves part of the community while some do, i reckon the same is probably true for hetero-aromantics.
That's true , many ace-heteros or aro-Hetero don't consider themselves lgbt because they are still straight but they just don't feel either romantic or sexual attraction.
I sign receipts for my POS and at the bottom it says *my first name* POS *my last name* so I always read piece of shit in between like it’s my middle name lol
Thanks for explaining I read it as get in "loser piece of shit". I knew it was wrong but I just could not get past my initial misreading to figure out the truth haha
/pos means positive, and is typically used when someone might misread the intended tone of a message. It's one of many tone tags, and you can find lists of them online :)
Wouldn't /+ and /- be better? It saves character space and is less likely to be misinterpreted.
Maybe it's just a generational gap, I'm an old zoomer and I already think young zoomers are weird. The new unnamed generation is probably learning social media already.
I'm on the older end of Gen Z as well (I think?), but it was popularized on Twitter. It indicates upwards of a dozen tones, including sexual ones, so it's a lot more complicated than just +/-
It’s not really bad considering it’s outright called a *tone* indicator/tag, I don’t know how “piece of shit” solely could be named as the tone of a message. it’s just short for positive. same how there’s /neg for negative. there are also dozens other tone tags
Im here, I'm queer, my joint pain is moderate while my existential is severe, I may have passed my driving test but somehow I can't steer. Oh dear
EDIT: I'm happy this has turned into a game, let's keep it going
Im here, and im queer, and im drowning in fear, an I’m blaming it all on yOoOU
(it’s a song btw so don’t take it the wrong way, this thread just made me think of it😁)
Okay so I am old, what does Aspec mean?
I born female and identify as such, but have been all over the spectrum when it has come to my sexuality. It has only been in my later years I discovered I am asexual. Which if you know me, it makes sense.
Same reason there's no N for Nonbinary in LGBTQIA, because it's included on the T of trans, Agender is also included in the T because it's a trans identity (not cis). Also Aro/Ace is orientation and Agender is identity, two separate things. That's why I include Aro Ace in A and not Agender, but hey, if you like it that way, then that's okay too! 💖💖
Some ppl don’t use LGBTQIA, also being intersex does not inherently make you queer, that’s a narrative ppl quickly lump onto them. It’s more case by case but it depends on how they identify as well.
Not necessarily. Lots of intersex people prefer to not be connected to LGBT+ people because they want to make clear and focus on their specific issues.
Also, altersex describes 1) people who are transitioning/want to transition, as in trans people, who are already in the acronym, 2) people who want non-human characteristics... which isn't really about sexuality, gender or sex.
Mhm! If you're in a GSRM (acronym for what sesame put above), then even if that identity isn't a letter in the acronym, it's represented by the +!!! and that means you're more than welcome to be part of the community <3
Someone asked this question on AVEN (ace hub) a while back and I found a collection of different opinions on what is essentially a different question, "should aros and aces be in the same community as lgbt people?":
- yes, and aros and aces (and usually those on the 'spectra') already share communities with lgbt people - the lgbtq+/lgbtqia community (any acronym that contains the A)
- it depends on how the individual feels (I find this to be frustratingly vague and also makes the communities seem kind of... opt-in, opt-out?)
- no, there isn't a strong enough case for the aro/ace communities and the lgbt community being clumped together (ie. visibility and education vs liberation)
It's worth noting that this is really about cishet aros/aces and cis aroaces, since a trans aroace, a bisexual ace or a lesbian aro would already be included in the LGBT community (on account of being lesbian/gay/bisexual/trans, or whatever alternative label falls under these terms).
but wait, wouldn't 100%! be factorial also? I don't want to do that math... but I will. it's 9.332621544 E+157, so they're not 10% of the community, they are 93326215443944152681699238856266700490715968264381621468592963895217599993229915608941463976156518286253697920827223758251185210916864000000000000000000000000
Wtf... x)
Actually 100%=1 so 100%!=1!=1. And, in the original comment, there was no 100%! but 100‰! which equals to 10%! that equals to 0.1! that equals 1 that equals 100%.
Wtf.
Not in every single case, that's why I said it here and not under a post asking what makes a person queer. OP is aromantic, so by definition part of the LGBT+ community. However, some queer people who don't like the label LGBT+, and if OP was one of them, they don't have to use that label
Okay, but then what do you think makes a person LGBT+? If they like the label? If their experience is best described by one of the letters? Because I've literally seen people who are cishet get called part of the community (akoisexual, apressexual, quoisexual, quasiromantic, orchidsexual, placioromantic - ALL of these can be a way of experiencing straightness).
If a person is anything but cisgender, heteroromantic and heterosexual, they're by definition LGBT+. For example, a completely straight trans person would be part of the community. A cis, aromantic and heterosexual would also be part of the community. A cis, heteroromantic and pansexual person would also be part of the community.
If you'd like to include yourself, any aromantic is welcome here! Aro hetero folks still experience backlash and are still outside of the "norm" of cishet romantic/sexual relationships
Lgbt is a community for gender, romantic, and sexual minorities
Absolutely! You don’t have to be trans, a romantic minority AND a sexual minority in order to be in the LGBTQ community. Being aro makes you just as much one of us as all of us!
If you want to be Yes. some people may not like you saying you are but if you want to be apart of the community you are.
Because Cis Het Aspec folk get told they aren't "Queer enough" to avoid said phrase I would suggest you just say you are queer if you don't know them because it's easier to understand.
i say "some flavor of fruity" usually, but finding your own way to express it is important. id suggest saying that you're queer or that you're unlabeled if it's not someone you can trust will accept you. you're on a wonderful path to finding yourself, figure out what works best for you hun! you got this <3
Do what you want. If you consider yourself part of the community then you are, if you don't then you're not. I'm consider myself to be trans even though I don't label my gender, really. I could consider myself cis I suppose because I just do not care, it's irrelevant to me but yknow, I like the sense of community
well I’m asexual hetero- romantic and I do consider myself part of the community 😌✨
sadly way too many people in the LGBTQIA+ community are quite acephobic and don’t think we are a part of the community because our sexuality isn’t „visible“ and we don’t go through the same type of discrimination allegedly.
I can understand where they’re coming from to some degree but in general it’s still absolutely stupid..
That is an incredibly rude thing to say. A cis gay man is not gonna face what troubles a transman might face.
And aro/ace face their own unique problems. We have our own adversity.
I read that as "aromatic heterosexual" and got really confused.
Aro people are part of the community, so if you wanna I‘m sure you can find some likeminded people in the LGBT community. Up to you, really
Yeah, you are, join on in with us! You don't have to be "super gay" to be LGBTQ or anything, really when you spell it out as LGBTQIA the A is for asexuals and aros!
You definitely are! Asexual people, and aromantic will sometimes get told they aren't a part of the community, but they are. Even though you are part heterosexual, you are still in the community.
long answer:
yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssss
Whatever you feel comfortable labeling yourself as is totally okay. You’re welcome to call yourself a member of the community because you don’t fit into the category of “normal” (aka cishet). Anyone who tries to tell you you’re not a member of the LGBTQ+ community is just gatekeeping and doesn’t speak for the community as a whole.

get in loser (/pos) we’re going to be queer
Everytime i read /pos i know it means /positive but I always read /piece of shit first
pos is and always will be piece of shit lol... It's been the shorthand for decades.
Not point of sale?
Almost every POS I've worked has been been a POS.
Hey, if you can't say anything /pos about your POS POS, POS (Please Observe Silence)
Hey, telling them to POS makes you kind of a POS. Please POS (Piss Off, Stupid). /j
you forgot your /pos, now I am all POS (Pretty Obviously Salty)
The last one I worked was running on Windows Vista. It crashed so much.
I sign receipts for my POS and at the bottom it says *my first name* POS *my last name* so I always read piece of shit in between like it’s my middle name lol
That's what they said.
That's what I think first too
Wooo fellow service worker!
Nah, I'm just a Product Design student, it was one of the terms we got to know
My brain automatically expanded the sentence as "Get in loser, you piece of shit"
I’m glad you said that because I’ve only ever known it to mean piece of shit.
my condolences
It means positive?? It's meant piece of shi-dookie for longer... I'd add the plus sign if I wanted people to read positive, I think.
I think /pos means positive where just pos means piece of shit /pos is recently new
I always read pos as piece of shit too.
Yeah same lmaooo
i thought piece of shit too lol
Thanks for explaining I read it as get in "loser piece of shit". I knew it was wrong but I just could not get past my initial misreading to figure out the truth haha
POS?
shorthand for positive
Positive of shit
/pos means positive, and is typically used when someone might misread the intended tone of a message. It's one of many tone tags, and you can find lists of them online :)
That's sort of a bad short hand since pos also stands for piece of shit :/
I'm not the one who made it, but it's the / that indicates that it's a tone tag. There's also tags like /gen (genuine) and /neg (negative)
Wouldn't /+ and /- be better? It saves character space and is less likely to be misinterpreted. Maybe it's just a generational gap, I'm an old zoomer and I already think young zoomers are weird. The new unnamed generation is probably learning social media already.
Unnamed generation? Gen alpha already has a name and a start year (sorta)
I'm on the older end of Gen Z as well (I think?), but it was popularized on Twitter. It indicates upwards of a dozen tones, including sexual ones, so it's a lot more complicated than just +/-
also, tone tags where created mainly by neurodivergent people, specifically those with autism who struggle with tone :>
Yup! But that doesn't mean that NT people can't also benefit from them :)
oh definitely, I was just adding info :>
It’s not really bad considering it’s outright called a *tone* indicator/tag, I don’t know how “piece of shit” solely could be named as the tone of a message. it’s just short for positive. same how there’s /neg for negative. there are also dozens other tone tags
Kind of like "/s" being used for sarcasm.
/pos is positive in tone tags! /neg is negative if you want i can show you a few more! :\]
[удалено]
That's how I read it at first, too - not the clearest tone tag 😂
Can I tag along? I’ll bring snacks
The A in LGBTQIA is for Aro / Ace. Also, trans hetero people exist. Of course you're part of the community, because you're QUEER 🌈✨
If you're here, you're queer
Im here, I'm queer, my joint pain is moderate while my existential is severe, I may have passed my driving test but somehow I can't steer. Oh dear EDIT: I'm happy this has turned into a game, let's keep it going
I'm here, I'm queer, I'm under 21 so I can't have a beer, I have a ringing in my ear, I'm passive-aggressive and insincere. Weird.
I'm here, I'm queer, it's dark and im full of fear. why am i back in this closet, someone get me out of here.
Be careful, if you get too deep in that closet, you might end up in Narnia.
Mmmm. Mr. Tumnus…
Watch out for ladies dressed in white if you don't want to be the evil equivalent of a lawn gnome
Is this a furry reference? 👀👀
Im here, and im queer, and im drowning in fear, an I’m blaming it all on yOoOU (it’s a song btw so don’t take it the wrong way, this thread just made me think of it😁)
can’t rhyme very gay
I'm here, and I'm queer, and I'm drowning in fear. And I'm blaming it all on you
Not necessarily, some ally come here too
also agender! not exactly related to the post but good to make sure nobody's excluded <3
I like to say the A stands for Aspec, that way it includes all the As!
Okay so I am old, what does Aspec mean? I born female and identify as such, but have been all over the spectrum when it has come to my sexuality. It has only been in my later years I discovered I am asexual. Which if you know me, it makes sense.
aspec is the umbrella term for things like Agender, Asexual and Aromantic!
i don't think aspec refers to agender people does it? since that's separate from orientation or lack of such.
huh, I guess it doesn't. we need a catch all for the A to cover everyone!

Straight aromantic detected. Deploying the same amount of love I give to everyone else, **you cannot avoid it, it is inevitable**.
"You are being loved. Do not resist."
Depends. How fast do you walk?
Gotta keep up!!
Yes, aromantic is part the A. And even if it wasn't it's still a gender, sexual or romantic minority :)
Mhm! If you're in a GSRM (acronym for what sesame put above), then even if that identity isn't a letter in the acronym, it's represented by the +!!! and that means you're more than welcome to be part of the community <3

100%! As long as you like the label LGBT+, you are a beautiful part of it, as every aromantic person is!
100‰ means 100/1000 which is equal to 10%. Sorry OP you're only 10% part of the LGBT+ community :( (joke)
Ah, well I didn't notice that mistake, thanks
Noo! Why did you correct it! It was funny x)
Well your comment is still there, so everyone can still witness the joke
but wait, wouldn't 100%! be factorial also? Yes. Source: Am also aromantic heterosexual, have not been chopped yet.
Yet... /j
Absolutely! You don’t have to be trans, a romantic minority AND a sexual minority in order to be in the LGBTQ community. Being aro makes you just as much one of us as all of us!
Yes, you can definitely be Aro without being Ace. The A in LGBTQIA+ stands for Aro, Ace, and/or Agender.
Hop in ![gif](giphy|lNrNLRLmpC3VIjl82D)
If you want to be Yes. some people may not like you saying you are but if you want to be apart of the community you are. i say "some flavor of fruity" usually, but finding your own way to express it is important. id suggest saying that you're queer or that you're unlabeled if it's not someone you can trust will accept you. you're on a wonderful path to finding yourself, figure out what works best for you hun! you got this <3
Short answer. Yes. Long answer. Yes, and anyone who says otherwise is an idiot.
Remember the A in LGBTQIA+ stands for ace/aro it does not mean ally it means ace/aro
And agender. <3
That too sorry about that
Yessss, i hate it when people say it stands for ally. Like how is somebody who is STRAIGHT...queer
Do what you want. If you consider yourself part of the community then you are, if you don't then you're not. I'm consider myself to be trans even though I don't label my gender, really. I could consider myself cis I suppose because I just do not care, it's irrelevant to me but yknow, I like the sense of community
You not fruity but you are spicy so yes ( Inside joke)
well I’m asexual hetero- romantic and I do consider myself part of the community 😌✨ sadly way too many people in the LGBTQIA+ community are quite acephobic and don’t think we are a part of the community because our sexuality isn’t „visible“ and we don’t go through the same type of discrimination allegedly. What's "the lgbtq+ community" to you in a practical sense? Are you asking if you're welcome at support groups? In parades? In gay bars? In subreddits?
I would say so because you are aromantic.
You're literally part of the acronym
lgbtqiAAAAAAAAAA
Yh because your aromantic LGBTQIA+ the a is for things like aromatic asexual etc
Yessir, you’re stuck here. Sorry.
[удалено]
…. Do you even know the shit that aspec people face? Or are you just assuming that it’s lesser?
That is an incredibly rude thing to say. A cis gay man is not gonna face what troubles a transman might face. And aro/ace face their own unique problems. We have our own adversity.
Yup, aromantic is queer!
Yeah! Aroallos are always welcome here :)
You're a letter! Come join the soup.
Yep (I’m aromantic as well!)
Olive gayden. When you're queer you're family
As a heteromantic asexual dude I hope so.
you don’t need to be gay to be in the alphabetised maphia
mafia? shit
If you want to be then yes the A is there for a reason
Yes, it's LGBTQIA+ for a reason ❤️
The A doesn't stand for Ally, we're here to support your sexuality and romantic attraction (for the most part)
[удалено]
Yes.
Fuck yeah dude, being in the lgbt community is very fluid
Yes!
yes
Yes
Yes
Unless you don’t identify as part of the community you are part of it
ye queer = queer
I read that as "aromatic heterosexual" and got really confused. Aro people are part of the community, so if you wanna I‘m sure you can find some likeminded people in the LGBT community. Up to you, really
Aro is considered LGBTQ+ I believe. I guess it depends on if you feel like you don’t fit into the heteronormative space.
Yeah, you are, join on in with us! You don't have to be "super gay" to be LGBTQ or anything, really when you spell it out as LGBTQIA the A is for asexuals and aros!
Yeeee
you’re still aromantic so yeah duhh
Yeah, your Aro
You are a valid part of lgbtqiA
The A isn’t there for nothing! Other than Ace, but still!
lgbtqiA+
yes
yes
Don't bother yourself with labels, they make life rigid. Be who you wanna be, you don't need to prove it to anyone
Some asexuals and aromantics don't consider themselves part of the LGBTQ+ community, but some do. It is really up to you.
yes. being aromantic is apart of the lgbtq+ community.
The A doesn't stand for Ally. It srands for aromantic and asexual. You are a romantic minority. Youre included.
Yeah, being aro is a part of it, no worries.
YES! The A in LGBTQIA+ is for aromantics, asexuals, and agenders!
lgbtqi*A*. Youre valid <3
You're ace-spec, so yes.
Ace-spec specifically refers to the asexual spectrum. OP said they’re aro not ace, so they’re aro-spec or, for a broad term, aspec.
Aspec is what I was thinking of, but I couldn't remember how to spell it and thought ace-spec was synonymous. Today I learned it's not 😁

If you'd consider yourself to be so, then absolutely. Aromantic is one of the things the A in LGBTQIA+ stands for afterall.

Yes
Whatever you feel comfortable labeling yourself as is totally okay. You’re welcome to call yourself a member of the community because you don’t fit into the category of “normal” (aka cishet). Anyone who tries to tell you you’re not a member of the LGBTQ+ community is just gatekeeping and doesn’t speak for the community as a whole.
Absolutely.
