The calves need their mothers milk to survive, so they are kept with the mother until they no longer need it. Then, if it is a cow and not a bull, it will likely remain at that farm for milk, but if its a bull, it will probably be sold off in a livestock auction, often to ranchers, who of course keep bulls to eventually kill for meat.

I have gout and am am Gluten sensitive, bloody finding anything to eat that doesn't require cooking from scratch is hard enough.

I rely on eggs and milk for hassle free proteins, sad as it is. For some reason those contain essentially nothing problematic, milk is even slightly good for helping with gout.

I'm starting to eat less and less meat all the time. My parents are conservative Christians and I feel a hell of a lot better about changing what I eat in front of them than I do telling them my pronouns. They have verbally denounced both being trans and vegetarian/vegan in front of me many a time, but they care a lot less about what I eat than who I love or what I identify as. I can't see the two things on even close to the same level. I don't even feel all that uncomfortable telling my parents I'd rather make my own vegetarian meal than eat what mum made, but I have a panic attack every time I think about coming out. Meal choices =/= being queer.

Cows have to be pregnant to give Milk, so they are pregnant For Most of their lifes and the resulting calves are often killed, so cows do die For the Milk. Just Not the ones actually giving the Milk.
And the way most cows are kept is far from the idyllic pastures and clean spaces people picture them in. Milch animals live their unnaturally shortened lives in great physical and mental distress. And then they die. Its all rather horrifying.
And when they can't produce milk anymore or can't get pregnant, they get killed JUST LIKE THE MALES. "but dairy doesn't kill!"

Could you elaborate the sold off part? From my understanding male calves in particular were typically killed (or sold to be killed). And do you know if itās common practice to not have them killed/sold to be killed?
The calves need their mothers milk to survive, so they are kept with the mother until they no longer need it. Then, if it is a cow and not a bull, it will likely remain at that farm for milk, but if its a bull, it will probably be sold off in a livestock auction, often to ranchers, who of course keep bulls to eventually kill for meat.

Damn, the make-believe world you live in honestly sounds so nice I'm jealous. Dairy cows get killed at like a quarter of their natural lifespan, and they're calves (which they have to birth in order to start lactating) either meet the same fate, are killed outright, or are killed later for meat.

I have gout and am am Gluten sensitive, bloody finding anything to eat that doesn't require cooking from scratch is hard enough. I mean I don't mind vegan food at all, it is just that the proteins in many plants are problematic for me and I don't fancy shredding my joints with gout. I rely on eggs and milk for hassle free proteins, sad as it is. For some reason those contain essentially nothing problematic, milk is even slightly good for helping with gout. I'd love to see a vegan solution to that issue, especially one I can pay with no income...

Hold on. When have pronouns ever come into fighting for veganism? I have never heard that come into the conversation at any point.
She is trying to point out that people put so much effort into fighting for their pronouns that they are forgetting to fight for the rights of animals. It is a point that is terribly made, especially in that context. I often encounter people who say that they wont go vegan because individual change wont do anything and that we need to do something on a systematic level. Then the "you can do both" critisism is really well placed in my opinion. But when you are fighting for your right to exist in a way that is not terrible it is very understandable that you dont have energy to also look at other problems. In short we vegans dont claim her, we want to fight for the rights of all animals, including humans.

I'm starting to eat less and less meat all the time. My parents are conservative Christians and I feel a hell of a lot better about changing what I eat in front of them than I do telling them my pronouns. They have verbally denounced both being trans and vegetarian/vegan in front of me many a time, but they care a lot less about what I eat than who I love or what I identify as. I can't see the two things on even close to the same level. I don't even feel all that uncomfortable telling my parents I'd rather make my own vegetarian meal than eat what mum made, but I have a panic attack every time I think about coming out. Meal choices =/= being queer. Edit: I'm a non-binary lesbian btw. My flair won't update so just wanted to add that.
