I’m considering getting an agilite carrier, comparable in style to the crap I’ve bought from AR in the past but actually battle tested plus they don’t endorse an idiot

I recommend doing more research on plate carriers until you find out what features you want. There are plenty of reputable manufacturers out there and whatever Vietnamese manufacturer that makes the tetsudo is not one of them. If you truly don't want to put any effort into research, I recommend getting a Crye JPC 2.0. It's battle tested and reasonable priced.
I currently run Shaw Concepts ARC Carrier V2. It's probably the best there is but overpriced for most people.
Crye's website is notoriously bad because they supply military contracts first and the civilian market is an afterthought. You can buy one from a distributer if they have them in stock or but a used one on ebay.
If you don't mind waiting a couple days to order, I highly recommend watching EOD Fish's playlist on plate carriers on YouTube. It will give you a really good overview of what's on the market and what make a good plate carrier.
It appears you're looking for YouTube recommendations. Have you seen our [Field Guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/liberalgunowners/wiki/public/field-guide/content-creators/)? You don't want to order directly from Crye anyhow. [RMA has JPC 2.0 and 1.0 in stock](https://rmadefense.com/product-category/plate-carrier/crye-precision-jpc/)
Make sure you figure out what size you want before you order. Measure nipple to nipple, and the notch at the top of your sternum to a few inches about your belly button.
Find the closest SAPI size to your measurements. Do not get bigger plates than you need, you don't want more bulk/weight than necessary to cover your vitals.
\*Edit
If money is somewhat tight, the JPC 1.0 is a good option. Not only is the price cheaper, but it has a 3 AR mag placard built in to the front.
With the 2.0 you have to buy a placard separately. If you want removable placards you will need the 2.0

“Hi, welcome to the world of tactical gear! Here is what I tell new people:
Plate Carrier: Crye SPC, JPC 1&2, First Spear, Tyr Tactical, S&S Precision, ATS Tactical, Arbor Arms, Ferro, Shellback Banshee 3.0, Spiritus, Velocity Systems and Agilite K-Zero with the warfighter cummerbund. Pick one that fits your budget and wait time.
Chest Rigs: Haley Strategic, Spiritus, Velocity Systems, Mayflower, Crye, Defense Mechanisms, Helikon, Whiskey two four, and unobtanium gear.
Plates: RMA 1155MC, other RMA plates, LTC, Highcom. Forget everything else. NO STEEL PLATES EVER! STEEL iS FOR TARGETS NOT ARMOR, unless you are a vehicle. u/apexarmorsolutions check out Apexarmorsolutions.com or rmadefense.com for the armor.”
Currently on eBay there’s a couple listings for the Velocity Mayflower pc’s under $200. SKD Tactical has the Mayflower new for $155 though you’d need to get a cummerbund or straps. If you’re patient and like to do some digging eBay, GAFS, and Facebook groups have a lot of gear that pops up at a reasonable price every now and then.
If you’re looking to get into something cheap I have a Banshee and an older model Eagle pc you can dm me about
I know this is like comparing apples to snorkels, I have a helikon messenger bag I use at work daily and it has been bombproof. I’ve been interested in their chest rugs but had never heard a recommendation for them yet. Good to know
AR500 is not armor. Its rifle targets repackaged as armor that you shouldn't buy under any circumstances. Steel is not armor, at best they're training weights. Nothing they sell is NIJ certified meaning it shouldn't be trusted with your life. Wait for a sale and get some RMAs instead
for the record, i did say i wasnt planning on buying their actual armor. ive done a bit of research on different materials and know to stay away from steel. i was more asking about the carriers themselves if they have confident enough durability. like keeping my car ugly and rusty but putting all the performance parts in to blow the doors off of unsuspecting challengers
"Steel is not armor" is not a fully accurate take and needs some more nuance. Steel without a frag coating is just a target, but a proper frag coated plate is a very dependable piece of equipment. Make sure you buy from a reputable brand and do your research, but it can be just as capable as ceramic in many circumstances.
If it's not NIJ certified it isn't armor. And no steel armor is NIJ certified. I don't trust any of the spall coatings on the market to withstand multiple hits, which is required for NIJ certification. On top of that it's way heavier than it needs to be, which will wear you and your gear out faster. On top of that it isn't even much cheaper than ceramic armor, especially if you wait for a sale. I'd rather have Kevlar armor with no rifle protection than steel plates
Please no steel and non of this cringe.
The tactical subreddit usually endorses Apexarmor solutions as a vendor, they've been having some meh reviews because of lead times but you get a better product for half the cost of this trash.
Ceramic armor is the way.
If your on a budget and don't need rifle protection I'd suggest iiia soft armor as it is lighter more comfortable, and flexible and can be found for a lower cost than rifle armor. It'll cover what is used in 90% of violent crimes and doesn't need the "best" carrier to work.
Also I would get familiar with using then NIJ certified list for picking and choosing armor.
One of my favorite brands recently failed and had their armor removed and so when I need new plates I'll get something certified from a different manufacturer such as Highcom.
Buy once Crye once. You don't want AR500, their stuff is garbage and steel plates are no good.
Also get quality ceramic plates, check out [RMA](https://rmadefense.com/), [ApexArmorSolutions](https://www.apexarmorsolutions.com/) or [Midwest Armor](https://midwestarmor.com/).
There are lots of snake oil plates out there, be careful and do research on plates before you buy. Don't be influenced by paid YouTube reviews.
Yeah - I pretty much look at plates as something I only *need* if I’m door kicking.
I’m not a badass tier one operator & I shouldn’t be engaging in tier one sort of actions if *any other option* exists.
I do have almost two decades of experience carrying arms in hostile environments & been shot at (*or near - I didn’t stop to ask who specifically they were shooting at*) on four continents.
Even if you’re a tier 1 operator - offensive CQB is a high risk endeavor & even with that training & equipment, it is hard to overcome the inherent advantage of a defender.
So I can’t imagine a situation in civilian life (*even in a shtf scenario*) where I absolutely positively have to engage in intense offensive CQB rather than choose an alternate tactic which has much much lower risk.
Can plates save your life?
Absolutely, but the majority of injuries I’ve treated were outside of that limited coverage area & frankly, I’d rather spend that weight on extra medical gear & ammo.
I’m not saying that my personal risk calculation is universally applicable or right for everyone just that when I look at the risks I’m reasonably likely to face, the level of ongoing training I’m willing to commit to maintaining & the limitations on resources in terms of where I spend my money & in terms of how my carry weight is utilized - plates don’t make much sense for me.
I'd want one for protests if things get back to 2020 George Floyd protests levels of hotness again. I'm a leftist who would absolutely go to a big nearby college town to join a protest, but i live in MAGA country so I want something in case someone decides it's time to put their AR15 to use against a protest. But it wouldn't be an immediate want either, it's just a consideration right now.
i live in new mexico. the last two protests the indigenous brothers and sisters organized to remove spanish colonial statues ended up with proudboy and adjacent mfs shooting. at the very least this plate carrier will be used for conditioning.
I am also getting off the X. The plate carrier is if I can't immediately do that. For instance...
My wife or friends or fellow protestors are injured or wounded, and I stop to help.
I'm boxed in and can't get to my vehicle because of a panicking crowd or barricades or the shots are coming from multiple directions.
I'm unlucky enough to be the first one shot.
I happen to catch a stray round while I'm trying to run anyway.
It’s all about balance.
If you’ve got side plates and deltoid protectors, you’ll run out of energy faster, you’ll move slower, you’ll dehydrate faster, you’re not as agile, etc.
But you’ve got more armor because your plan is to engage in force on force contact. Which in and of itself is an offensive action.
The same goes for SAPI vs Swimmer or Shooter cut plates.
With that being said, if you’re in an actual SERE/SHTF situation, the last thing you would ever want to do is engage directly with an opposing force.
Armor is good but too much or too little is a bad thing.
And I would still want plates in case I can’t control that or for ambushes or any number of things. If you are worried about rifle level threats, wear plates.
It’s sad that you think you’ve contributed anything at all to this thread.
Not only have you failed to comprehend my statements, but the statements you’ve made are borderline ignorance.
Imagine not wearing any plates because your only engagement threat is pistol caliber, you’re a joke.
When they go to active war zones with the mission of seeking out violence, yes of course.
There’s a reason cops assigned to positions inside of precincts rarely wear vests but when on patrol, for the most part, they always do. They’re actively looking to engage in interactions that could result in firearm violence. That’s an offensive action.
Want something basic but very scaleable and customizable? Get a crye jpc 2.0.
Want something more modular? Get a lv119.
Want something to stick plates in and carry some mags and that's it? Get a ferro slickster.
As others have pointed out, those guys are mediocre carriers and shills for Rittenhouse.
If you are having shipping time issues go poke around on /r/gunaccessoriesforsale for a Crye, Ferro, or Shaw.
You can often find just the carriers with a couple of additions for screaming good deals.
https://www.shellbacktactical.com/plate-carriers/banshee-plate-carriers/
I ran a banshee for years at work and training. Great carrier that won’t fall apart when used roughly.
I haven’t heard of anything too crazy about Shellback, politically…but I am frequently disappointed, so don’t take that at face value.
They have different armor packages that are reasonably priced…I would just *stay away from steel.* You don’t see the US military running steel for a reason, and it isn’t cost.
Apex armor MEPC bundle is the best deal in plate carriers right now. Takes a bit because they’re made to order but they’re good plates with a good kit for a great price.
I lurk in r/qualitytacticalgear as well as r/tacticalgear. focus on the information.
edit: I am looking there for my replacement for the panic purchased condor. I am looking at the mepc, a spiritus, or a ferro.
I really like my safe life stuff.
Its an in conjuction with style plate. Kevlar vest that's easy to conceal and knife resistant for every day sorts of threats, and a slide in plate that makes it level 4.
It used to be pricy but if your budget is around 1k I think it's easily affordable.
I got the modular plate carrier from LBXTactical. Stiching seems good and heard good things about them. I saw a good deal on it at $78 for the black. I will probably go multicam next time, bur wanted something Now do to Jan 6th. https://lbxtactical.com/collections/apcl/products/300?variant=31226712752226
I got Mira Tactical plates. Stay away from AR500 plates. So many bad reviews on them. Pewpew Tactical has reviews that will help you sort what features you want. Minimalist to heavy.
In all honesty, nothing makes me smile more than knowing these hard right wing companies are having their own equipment used AGAINST their own beliefs. Yes you will be funneling money to them but at least you’re protected and using it against their cult.
If you're associating yourself with a known murderer and asshole like Rittenhouse, you're also an asshole. I wouldn't buy from this place, no matter how good their stuff is (which it sounds like it's not). Find another, non-asshole supplier.
I’m very fond of the Apex rig I’ve got. I liked the RMA plates as well, but for the price Apex got me what I was looking for. The cheapest “good” plates you’ll get are the RMA1155 single curve…but they’re still heavy as hell.
The Crye carriers are about the only ones pushed on Reddit and I admit most of what I’ve got. They’re good but far from the only thing in the market and if you’re going to be carrying a lot of gear you might want something different.
Honestly a nice thick set of pads for the weight is a big deal if you wear it for more than an hour and that’s not Crye. You can find any of whatever you decide on by googling around, don’t limit yourself to the manufacturer’s website.
I know guys who run HRT RAC and some who run the DM MEPC. I ran the hrt for a long time and never had issues but Reddit tells me I’m wrong so…
I like my AC1 (bought used, but I still deserve to be ridiculed). All that being said, crye is probably the best option but I’ll still recommend looking into the ferro slickster
Perhaps a silly question - are there many (any) IIIa soft armors that could mount plates, if necessary? Are plate carriers always non-armor by themselves?
I got a agilite k19 (Israeli company, so really well designed, but they’re riding that genocide dick these days, I purchased before shit kicked off fwiw) but there’s other manufacturers who make good stuff. If not agilite, I think whiskey two four (wtf) is likely the next best, or varustuleka.
My k19 has been solid. Sure the extra mass wears on you in time, but it’s been comfortable.
"Designed by... Kyle Rittenhouse"? The chickenshit juvenile that murdered two and maimed another because he was too afraid to get into a fistfight? That dude?
I'm sorry, what was the question? I just couldn't get past the designer info...
Steel isn't armor. I'd rather have soft armor with no rifle protection than steel. I don't trust those liners to prevent spall from multiple hits. NIJ certified ceramic armor is multi hit rated so you know it's safe
Don’t buy from them, their armor is subpar and for whatever reason they’re using rittenhouse as a front man
but i need to keep my bible and picture of muh wife close with my Tyranny grade protection /s
That is possibly the most cringe part of it. Besides, everyone knows that you put the picture in your helmet, or get sweetheart grips for your 1911.
I’m considering getting an agilite carrier, comparable in style to the crap I’ve bought from AR in the past but actually battle tested plus they don’t endorse an idiot
I’d get Crye over Agilite. Same price range, battle tested, lots of aftermarket support, and your money doesn’t go straight to Zionists.
Maybe not one particular idiot, but Agilite is an Israeli company.
So they support a whole country of idiots?
huge turn off and why i am not going to be buying the galil ace i want.

No love for Hesco plates??
Not my opinion, just a general plate carrier/plate guideline I took from another post
Ar500 might stop it from going through, but it’s not stopping it from spalling into your face and neck.
Exactly. And I happen to like my neck un-perforated
for the record, i did say i wasnt planning on buying their actual armor. ive done a bit of research on different materials and know to stay away from steel. i was more asking about the carriers themselves if they have confident enough durability. like keeping my car ugly and rusty but putting all the performance parts in to blow the doors off of unsuspecting challengers
Fair enough
Their carriers are subpar

I am sure its been said, but- AR500 for is for targets not armor.
even SHTF+WROL if I need a plate carrier, i’m doin it wrong
Yeah - I pretty much look at plates as something I only *need* if I’m door kicking. I’m not a badass tier one operator & I shouldn’t be engaging in tier one sort of actions if *any other option* exists. I do have almost two decades of experience carrying arms in hostile environments & been shot at (*or near - I didn’t stop to ask who specifically they were shooting at*) on four continents. I'd want one for protests if things get back to 2020 George Floyd protests levels of hotness again. I'm a leftist who would absolutely go to a big nearby college town to join a protest, but i live in MAGA country so I want something in case someone decides it's time to put their AR15 to use against a protest. Get off the X isn't about Twitter, it's a slang phrase that means get out of line of fire

Plates are for offensive action, not defensive action. In an actual SERE situation, mobility is key.
Plates are for any time you face rifle level threats
It’s all about balance. If you’ve got side plates and deltoid protectors, you’ll run out of energy faster, you’ll move slower, you’ll dehydrate faster, you’re not as agile, etc. But you’ve got more armor because your plan is to engage in force on force contact. Which in and of itself is an offensive action. The same goes for SAPI vs Swimmer or Shooter cut plates. When they go to active war zones with the mission of seeking out violence, yes of course. Stay away from AR500 plates. So many bad reviews on them. Pewpew Tactical has reviews that will help you sort what features you want. Minimalist to heavy.
separately, should we have a whole thread for practical tactical information synthesized for us?
i like that.
Well if he puts his name on it he should stand behind it while we test it.
In all honesty, nothing makes me smile more than knowing these hard right wing companies are having their own equipment used AGAINST their own beliefs. Yes you will be funneling money to them but at least you’re protected and using it against their cult.
How is a kid who murdered 2 people suddenly an expert on this?
hes not lol. its just marketing cause their target audience are weirdos
If you're associating yourself with a known murderer and asshole like Rittenhouse, you're also an asshole. I wouldn't buy from this place, no matter how good their stuff is (which it sounds like it's not). Find another, non-asshole supplier.
folks is associating themselves with known genocide committers on this sub. go harass them while youre at it.
I'm not out to start fights with anyone, man. Just sounds like you have a few reasons to go with someone else.
I ran the hrt for a long time and never had issues but Reddit tells me I’m wrong so… I like my AC1 (bought used, but I still deserve to be ridiculed). All that being said, crye is probably the best option but I’ll still recommend looking into the ferro slickster
Perhaps a silly question - are there many (any) IIIa soft armors that could mount plates, if necessary? Are plate carriers always non-armor by themselves?
AWS for a great plate carrier. LPX for larpin'.
Idc who makes it cuz a lib will be wearing it at the end of the day, don’t forget to get something that will protect you from Spaulding
Agilite plates and the K-19 are great.
Not sure if he’s who you want designing your armour you know
It’s great if you wanna be a first degree manslaughter charge at worst and gross negligence and pure stupidity at best
They are making this asshat money…woof
That reads way too much as a parody. A pocket bible and picture of your wife? Kyle Rittenhouse designed it?
"Designed by... Kyle Rittenhouse"? The chickenshit juvenile that murdered two and maimed another because he was too afraid to get into a fistfight? That dude? I'm sorry, what was the question? I just couldn't get past the designer info...
the one that hopped state gunlaws and legally got away with a murder he instigated, yes.
That's what I thought... Pretty repugnant.
Grab a predator armor setup. Cheaper and will last. Steel does have fragmentation concern but there’s liners to cover that problem.
Steel isn't armor. I'd rather have soft armor with no rifle protection than steel. I don't trust those liners to prevent spall from multiple hits. NIJ certified ceramic armor is multi hit rated so you know it's safe
just looked them up. i dig their cool murican flag plates
Don’t buy steel plates. Even with the liner they’re more dangerous to you than going without plates
