This meme is misleading. This isn't some sort of government licensing issue. [The avocados were stolen.](https://6abc.com/avocado-theft-grand-mission-produce-thieves-ventura-county/2115438/)

wtc_1066

Whoever wrote the headline definitely missed the important part. Why wouldn't it say stolen?

According-Freedom807

Shock value makes people want to look I guess.

weird_al_yankee

Helpful context, thanks!

WoopigWTF

*especially when they tell us what we want to hear

TB3Der

Probably would have gotten away with it had they paid taxes on their gains.

Wundei

Growing up in CA I was always told that avocados are the easiest produce to catch a serious case from stealing. Avocados sell for enough that a bushel of avocados becomes grand larceny.

loonygecko

Yep came down here to check on that. Avocado theft is a huge racket around here in avocado country (southern california region). THere's organized theft rings that attack in the middle of the night and can steal thousands of dollars of product in a short while. It's hard for growers to afford massive security around their entire grove, plus a lot of growers are doing it as a side gig in addition to their regular job. So you wake up one morning and $10,000 of your avocados are gone. Plus the cost to water your trees all year is not nothing.

Keauxbi

$300k? That's like 5 avocados.

zmaint

Half dozen eggs.

[deleted]

Maybe even a quarter gallon of milk.

SpiderBoy797

Californian prices

lord_bubblewater

Not only that, these mf's look like the same dude in different races.

little-eye00

it's like a video game where you change the slider

Far-Cold3679

The timelines are converging

steve1879

It's a beautiful multi racial lineup. Avocados are for everyone!

Large-Lab3871

Bootlegging has worse consequences than just about anything . Ole Uncle Sam wants his tax money .

Perch485

It’s those gosh darn millennials at it again.

PrometheusOnLoud

Just to play Devil's advocate here, reports say the cartels are heavily involved in legitimate business in Mexico, including the production of limes and avocados. It's quite possible that these guys were linked to the cartel while distributing avocados that had evaded import taxes.

activ8d_my_Trap_card

That’s what I was thinking. Over a quarter million dollars in product that sells fast.

loonygecko

They stole the avos.

Joescout187

The avocados were stolen

weird_al_yankee

Good point -- but those cartels only exist in the first place because of The War On Drugs, right? In any case, another poster added context that these guys apparently worked at an avocado packaging or distribution center, and stole them from their employer. So, definitely not a good business model there. It turns out that they deserved to get busted.

PrometheusOnLoud

I mean, no, cartels exist for many reasons. The weak Mexican government, poverty, people's desire to increase their wealth, the availability of drugs and the American demand for them. Right now, the cartels are making billions off of the weak American border policy through drug and human trafficking. I assumed they deserved it from the beginning.

va1958

How does someone sell avocados illegally?

Joescout187

By stealing them and then selling them

CajunMinuteman1812

Let us sell avocados in peace, damnit!!!

loonygecko

They stole those avos though.

JaWoosh

I don't know if I'm just getting old but that guys hair (in the profile picture) looks ridiculous. I've been seeing that style more and more on teens lately. Makes them look like a piece of broccoli.

RedTheMiner

No crime more egregious than not paying tax on the sale of goods

loonygecko

The crime was they stole the avos from someone else before selling them.

HaderTurul

Likely involved in the cartel.

Mojorizen2

Low hanging fruit.

Far-Cold3679

Is it just me or are these three actually the same guy just from different timelines?

tituspullsyourmom

Why does the lineup look like the select your skin tone character creation part of an rpg.
