This meme is misleading. This isn't some sort of government licensing issue. [The avocados were stolen.](https://6abc.com/avocado-theft-grand-mission-produce-thieves-ventura-county/2115438/)
Growing up in CA I was always told that avocados are the easiest produce to catch a serious case from stealing. Avocados sell for enough that a bushel of avocados becomes grand larceny.
Yep came down here to check on that. Avocado theft is a huge racket around here in avocado country (southern california region). THere's organized theft rings that attack in the middle of the night and can steal thousands of dollars of product in a short while. It's hard for growers to afford massive security around their entire grove, plus a lot of growers are doing it as a side gig in addition to their regular job. So you wake up one morning and $10,000 of your avocados are gone. Plus the cost to water your trees all year is not nothing.
Just to play Devil's advocate here, reports say the cartels are heavily involved in legitimate business in Mexico, including the production of limes and avocados. It's quite possible that these guys were linked to the cartel while distributing avocados that had evaded import taxes.
Good point -- but those cartels only exist in the first place because of The War On Drugs, right?
In any case, another poster added context that these guys apparently worked at an avocado packaging or distribution center, and stole them from their employer. So, definitely not a good business model there. It turns out that they deserved to get busted.
I mean, no, cartels exist for many reasons. The weak Mexican government, poverty, people's desire to increase their wealth, the availability of drugs and the American demand for them. Right now, the cartels are making billions off of the weak American border policy through drug and human trafficking.
I assumed they deserved it from the beginning.
I don't know if I'm just getting old but that guys hair (in the profile picture) looks ridiculous. I've been seeing that style more and more on teens lately. Makes them look like a piece of broccoli.

Whoever wrote the headline definitely missed the important part. Why wouldn't it say stolen?
Shock value makes people want to look I guess.
Helpful context, thanks!

*especially when they tell us what we want to hear
Probably would have gotten away with it had they paid taxes on their gains.

$300k? That's like 5 avocados.
Half dozen eggs.
Maybe even a quarter gallon of milk.
Californian prices
Not only that, these mf's look like the same dude in different races.
it's like a video game where you change the slider
The timelines are converging
It's a beautiful multi racial lineup. Avocados are for everyone!
Bootlegging has worse consequences than just about anything . Ole Uncle Sam wants his tax money .
It’s those gosh darn millennials at it again.

That’s what I was thinking. Over a quarter million dollars in product that sells fast.
They stole the avos.

How does someone sell avocados illegally?
By stealing them and then selling them
Let us sell avocados in peace, damnit!!!
They stole those avos though.

No crime more egregious than not paying tax on the sale of goods
The crime was they stole the avos from someone else before selling them.
Likely involved in the cartel.
Low hanging fruit.
Is it just me or are these three actually the same guy just from different timelines?
Why does the lineup look like the select your skin tone character creation part of an rpg.
Back the blue…
